- Today I want to show you one of my favorite returns. It's the short return on sidespin serves by taking the spin out of the ball.
It's definitely not an easy return, but once you master this one, I guarantee you'll be playing at a different level. Enjoy!

Teemo Bolt himself ladies and gentlemen. The GOAT 🐐
So glad to learn this kind of professional skill from the one of the best players of table tennis history.
Actually, I have seen you doing this return a lot of times, but I just never analysed it this way, thank you so much Timo, love your content.
Thank you Timo Boll😊
Very interesting, especially for those players who always chop under the ball with underspin and return high balls due to the side spin for the opponent's third ball attack.
Thats why I always flick
But sometimes its so hard to backhand spin especially on fast spinny balls coming to yout elbow
First! Thanks Timo for all ur vids, i just found this youtube channel and it's really helpful, keep up the great work!
Also my friend uses sidespin serves that are impossible to return and i can't wait to beat him.
With this return you will beat him 😉
Awasome video as always! Thx and keep it up.. always waiting for next
Many years of watching Timo videos playing, and _now_ I recognize that service-return.
I never even thought about it.
WWOOOW. Table tennis legend is teaching online. Available to anyone. Got no words to This channel should become insanely popular. Thanks for the incredible job!
Thanks Timo Boll for making such a useful video. I personally really wanted to know how you receive this short .
Thank you Timo Boll. This is more than what money can buy. This shows why you are who you are 👌
Funny how few little words by a master can make so much Sense
Dude i can't tell you how much i love You
Thank you Timo!
Thanks Timo!
Very good! Thanks Timo!
Thank you Timo🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
Great video! Love you Timo you're a legend
Thank you Sir!
Very very helpful. I play rather defensive and try to keep pressure away so I can get into my attack, with long pips on backhand, too. This return fits my playstyle so well. Thanks Timo✌️👏
Great tips as always . Gratitude for Timo's masterclass!
Thank you Timo.. you’re a legend
Wie immer ein klasse Video Timo. 👍🏻
Gros Merci Timo . Stay calm is one of the best advice.
This is some amazing technique never before taught! Thanks for sharing! Wish you the best in the upcoming team events! Always a pleasure to watch you on the field!
Thanks for this piece of TT wisdom.
Very interesting! Thanks

This is so awesome! RUclips tutorial videos from one of the top players from all times! Thanks Timo! +1 Subscriber!
Very awesome timo boll 🔥🔥
I watched your matches and found that you used this against a lot of players, it helps a lot in my game as well, thanks Timo!!!
Thanks om timo🥰
Your videos have always been so helpful.
Particularly the explanation and theory behind it.
Thanks so much Champ.
Many thanks. That was amazing input.
Nothing like having a champion and expert like you showing it all, like a magician telling you how the trick is done ! Pure magic, well done. The problem lies on being able to master all this magic. hahahaha
Great tip. Will try to practice that and eventually incorporate it into my regular game. Thanks.
great coaching, boll, this series is better than most of web coach in Chinese. Even though I am penhold player, learn a lot.
I was waiting for this..wow.
Beautiful man! Huge influence on my game and life. (I’ve never subscribed to a channel before, but for you anything). Great video quality! Slow-mo is very helpful. Thanks Herr Boll! Ich liebe dich!
Hey Timo!
Huge fan from India! Thank you for your videos. We all love you here because you're very humble and someone a lot of people look up to.
I'll be moving to Germany for work, would love to see you in action in person (hopefully play one counter with you)
Love from India!
You really need this return when facing a strong player who can loop any long return. You have to return his/her serve short.
Verry nice tutorial video! Hope we can cooprate in near future!
Muchas gracias genio!!
love from Bangladesh timo❤
Very underrated return! Weiter so :D
This is a great move! really diversified pace of my receive game against heavy top-side spin serves. they can no longer just lurk in the back hand corner to counter my long returns! (I play left hand against a dominant right-handed group of friends). Thanks a lot Coach Timo
Thanks Timo!! I'll try it in the evening!
It's not easy, but try it out
Gracias
Amazing very useful tips what a fantastic player you are Timo you are really a master in world of TT world God bless you
Perfect video, perfect tip Timo. One more recommendation for players- play this short hit closer to the your handgrip(on your racket) , it will have less energy and your receive will be shorter. Marek
I mastered it thanks a lot sir
❤ good tip, salamat.
amazing stuff! :) nice!
Nice timo
Timo..you are my idol
Amazing
I actually started doing this instinctually in response to my brother-in-law's sidespin serve. I can't get it as short as you though!
Superb AWESOME 👍
I love you Timo
This shot is awesome, It seems really interesting, I can win matches with it!
this changes everything
My inspiration and all time favourite player ❤️
I will surely try this to improve my game with this
Love from india ❤️😍
Hi Timo ! inspirational as always ! thanks for teaching us amateur player a lot of useful skills in table tennis. as i think the aim of your channel is to allow amateur player to up their game with some pro tips. However, IMO, I think there are two main reasons of what makes a pro player pro and a amateur player stay amateur, which contributes to the difference in the quality of coaching and the difference in the quality of training partner. well, it is seemingly impossible for amateur player to get a session from Jörg Roßkopf lol. therefore, it will be great to have some of your insights regarding the pros and cons of a table tennis machine. thxxx :)
big fan
As a leftie I will definitely try to copy your service return movement and add it to my arsenal👍
Give me your feedback, it's not easy, but I tried to make the tutorial as detailed as possible
@@timoboll8381 Sure, Timo! I will try it this week💪 By the way, I sent you my "coffee" address on Instagram and email in April. Did you see that?
@@timoboll8381 Tried this receive method an hour ago. Of course, missed a lot of shots - it obviously takes much more practice. For me it's easier to find right angle for side-top spin serve than for side-back spin serve. So, will keep practice!
One more thing - to make close to the net (drop short) receive one need to have ball's contact point close to handle of the racket - near rubber model name. It's visible from your tutorial but in my opinion, it's useful additional small tip for us if you mentioned it in video:)
Wow! Young Dana White at 1:01 :)
Thank you, Timo!
Thank you Timo for the video. This is very helpful. Can you also show how it's done if the ball goes to the backhand side?
Great tip. Particular for left handed players like my self ;-) I just tried the technique using my robot and it works to give more control. also it can give a nice curve to the service return as a bonus. Next step is to use it in my matches tomorrow :-)
Master what a great great shot.
Sir i have a request that can you please make video on best pre made table tennis bats.
I wasn't doing this before but it looks like a good, tricky shot every once in a while
I've seen Timo Boll using this receive against players like Par Gerell and Lebesson, it seems effective but players who does high toss service is tricky like Hugo and Lin Yunju
İf ı had a wish I want to play table tennis with you timo👏
This match against Liqin is one of the most interesting ever. Even the camera quality is good.
It was a great match, even I lost it 😩
@@timoboll8381 After watching your videos i realise that Table tennis isn't easy sport as most of people think
@@timoboll8381 that parallel inside out forehand from Wang Liqin in this match is one of the most epic shots i have seen.
Thanks Timo, I will do it!!! I have trouble to catch this servers...
Pls do a video on your reverse pendulum serve ❤️
Thanks timo🏓🇮🇩🙏
Greeting from sukun table tennis club

Thanks for all the free tips! Is there any word on when the English version of Timo Boll Web Coach will be ready? Thanks again
Thanks Timo - great video as always! With regards to getting low while receiving: are your eyes about the level of the top of the net and do you start to rise up to play as soon as the opponent's contact is done?
Hey Timo, really like your video:) Is it possible for you to make a video about how you use your Amicus Prime? And which settings you prefer to get the most potential out of it.
Best regards and good luck in Dortmund
It's hard to replicate the settings, it depends a lot on the ball which you are using
it will be very interesting to understand why, when you receive short services , your index stay in the middle of the racket , because this is a your peculiarity , i dont see many top players that move the finger so much . Thank you Timo
Great video, coach! Never heard of this shot before. Can I ask how far after the peak to aim to make contact?
Timo how do you play so good i watched you beat so many players,
Plus you have an awesome youtube channel. Man you are awesome ❤️!
Thanks, I started early, had a good coach and practiced a lot. 😉
I only have to ask one more question, u bought a new racket, and i bought timo boll black from butterfly and it is Really weird, i can only do 2 types oh attacks, a fast one without any spin and a very spinny one without any speed, there is no combination, everytime i try to change my playstyle i Miss the table
And i play table tennis everyday with my friends so i am in pretty good shape.
So my question is: What do you do to get that sweet combination of spin and speed?
@@filipmaksimovic1640 you need Training. What you have is a beginner Racket. You have a slow Racket with a lot of control. Beginners need that to learn the techniques better. Timo has a lot faster Racket and more grippy and faster rubbers. Of course timo can produce more spin and speed. He also trained it for years.
You have to Practice with a coach and After times of good Training and improving skills you can go to a Material seller and get advises about new Material in combination with your play style.
@@fynnweiler7660 so you are basically saying i am too good for my racket, well that's a shame, and I am no rookie
I play table tennis for 1 year with no breaks every day or every other day. Plus i train on every monday wednesday and friday with a trainer so....
@@filipmaksimovic1640 i dont know how good you are. If you train so much and you hit the Ball with an good technique and it comes on the table you can think about new Material (but not too fast. You have to steps in terms of Racket speed). If you have a seller of all brands of table tennis blades and rubbers you should go there to get advises. So you can try out almost everything and look what fits best
Hi Timo,
Thanks for the tips. Would you say you have an unorthodox grip? When I was learning to play I spend frustrating hours trying to “correct” my grip that according to the coach needed correcting. As hard as I tried, my new grip never felt comfortable. As the result I constantly had to second guess myself. I must add here that this coach was a world class chines woman player. How important is it to have a “perfect” grip? Many aspects of my grip (before the attempted corrections) looked very similar to yours. Just imagine how far I could have gone if I had continued with my original grip.
Pro Tip: Play Timos videos mirrored to see correct movements for right hand players.
Hi Timo, nice video, it's very informative. Btw can anyone tell me if he took a haircut, or is it just me? His hair looks different from his last video.
Hello my role model Mr.Timmo Boll .warm greeting from Indonesia.
Question: Are you using ST blade or FL?
That’s a very useful technique! Also I noticed your index finger at the back of the bat seems closer to the centre of the bat than normal. Do you mean to do that?
He explained before that he does this on serve receive because it gives more stability in the return.
I'd like to see how to carry this out from backhand side.
sometimes the racket load changes .
can you make a short video about it ?
Interestingvideo Timo! How would that work with backhand, as a right hand receiver?
Was just thinking the same lmao
Very difficult with Backhand IMHO as your wrist can't adjust so finely.
I think backhand against spinny pendulum serves are so risky,I prefer going with forehand spin
And I think against left hand players thid tactic is working perfect! I have 2 good players in my team as lefty
I think this would work best against reverse pendulum as a right hand receiver
I wish you are the world's best table tennis ranking 1
Haha. I will try again, but it's a big task
