This scene is awesome! I have several tattoos and I must say that the dragons on McConaughey in this movie have moved me to do a full tribal on my left side of my body (arm, chest, abs, shoulder, back, hip, and leg). This fight scene is pretty realistic... a few good punches and some throwing and it's over...
@@nava03071987 Sadly, still wishing I had it. In the interim I spent most of my money on school and travel, but now finally have a little room for some more ink again. So, hey, there's still time...
notice the two things that make McConaughey such a great fighter (besides the fact that he's jacked) - he has much shorter legs and much shorter arms than average for his height - it makes him look more badass and gives him an advantage in fighting (or WOULD if this was a real fight)
I think they should have made it more of an equal fight. You can see Quinn is really buff a couple of times in the scenes. They made him fight like someone who didn't know what he was doing. When you look at him you know he could probably take anyone at the castle. I know Denton Van Zan is trained to fight, but Quinn is a large man who can handle himself.
i really enjoyed this movie.. but i saw both these guys after they had established themselves. then went back to look at the previous work they had done. Ran into this, remembered it's release but didn't end up seeing it. Quite enjoyed it.. some good actors in this one, interesting take on dragons too.
that was epic !! That was not there in the screenplay . McConaughey surprised Bale and they continued the fight scene. It seems later after filming the scene Bale gave McConaughey a mouthfull !!!!!!
oh man, no i wasnt saying that one instance when i was talking about the fight at a party, they werent americans with welsh or scottish heritage, i ment thats where they were from wales and scotland, we were on a euro trip in a place called prague or something like that
don't go to the ground, if you're fighting with fists and the guy is heavier than you DON'T GO TO THE GROUND!!! he'll use his strength and kick your ass. you have to stay on your feet and mobile when fighting big dudes.
You do understand that when people make comments like saying that somebody has a chip on their shoulder it usually means that they have a chip on their shoulder and they say that others have it just so that they can justify it to themselves. i know i don't have a chip on my shoulder but you accused me of having one which clearly means that you have one and have not yet come to terms with it. I hope this has been a great learning experience for you and you may now journey on with your life.
i agree, same thing popped into my mind before i got the movie, at the time i was crazy about matthew but now i'm a huuugeee christian bale fan, even after that screaming n swearing incident :P
I love how fucking intense Matthew's character is in this movie. Matthew is freaking ripped in this movie and hes a country boy so im thinking he would take Bale in a real life fight. Nonetheless, 2 very good actors in one awesome movie.
Matthew McConaughey is so underrated as a badass in this movie. VAN-ZAN is a dragonslayer!!!!!!!! I made him my Skyrim character--but gave him a mohawk
Actually most of this fighting wasn't choreographed, they actually hit each other quite a bit and this was before Christian Bale had had any sort of combat training so, given that he's smaller, he would have lost, which he mostly really did.
I think it's be a good fight. I'd give it to Bane. Van Zant can match Bane's strength, ferocity, and viciousness but Bane is technically superior and faster. Bane and Van Zant sounds like a match between fighting game characters.
Joe Cannabyte He wouldn't have gone for the mask because no one knows it's purpose. The mask was so unique that you couldn't have surmised it's purpose either, at least not on the first encounter. As we can see here, Bane is clearly faster and more skilled than Van Zan. In what way is he overrated as a combatant? You do realize that he never really lost to Batman, right?
Joe Cannabyte yeah he was killing dragons using military equipment, wasn't like he was fighting them hand to hand combat. if you haven't seen all of the christian bale batmans then you wouldn't understand the caliber of fighter that bane is. also take in that this is the only time we see van zan fight and its against a partially starved civilian. bane fucked up batman! batman!
You do understand when people make comments like this they come across as childish? Its a movie. I think you have a chip on your shoulder and are trying to read to much into it.
indeed. christian bale is amazing. i am a hard core fangirl of his. i too would love to help clean those wounds. that man is the most sexiest thing i have ever seen. and getting to see his ass on american psycho was the highlight of my life. lol. though his character wierded me out. he was still one gorgeous man. and he should have kicked van zan's ass. i dont like dragon killers. van zan was never one of my favs. he made americans look like jack asses.
I think they wanted to show feelings between Quinn and Alex ?? That's why the fight saw Quinn overwhelmed, helpless and feeling faint so Alex acted and was upset by what was happening, she had tears in her eyes
Continued-> 4) American arrogance again. (Quinn warns him of an attack on London; Van Zan ignores him because he thinks he knows best.) 5) Americans as bullies. (Van Zan "drafting people" at gun point after they refuse to join him willingly. Should I go on? That was just a few from atop my head. The point I'm getting at is you can read between the lines and get what ever message your looking for if you look hard enough. In truth; its simply a movie about dragons. lol
When someone accuses a movie about dragons of being propaganda; they either have a chip on their shoulder about the country in question or they are over the top paranoid. How is this American propaganda? Try to answer it without sounding bitter or condescending.
I'm sorry... Bale might be Batman, and the other guy... well, idk who exactly he's played in other movies... but I can't take them seriously... they both have odd voices.
"In the movie you see me crawl around the ground for a couple of seconds to try to find my bearings - that is real!" - Christian Bale, reffering ti the headbut McConaughey gave him xD
Mate you have to learn to read between the lines. Everything is inadvertently subliminal propaganda in some form or manner. Its just a matter of reading between the lines.
well, here.... bale's character is just a man, who survived his first dragon sighting and watched his mum died. he has no experience with any fighting style. while, VAN ZAN!!!! has military training.
The problem with reading between the lines is the message is never clear and cut, and in truth most of the time varies for person. Example; I could just as easily say this movie was "anti-American" why you ask? it represents American stereotypes. 1) The Americans are portrayed as gun trotting militants with a shoot first ask questions never approach. 2) Americans as brutish (van zan growing like an animal.) 3) American arrogance. (Insults the people after their victory over the first dragon. ->

Well its been 14 years, how'd the tattoo come out?
Can’t imagine what Game of Thrones inspired you to do…did you become a dragon?

that head butt was unscripted

i love it when christian screams HOI, love that christian bale
I think they should have made it more of an equal fight. You can see Quinn is really buff a couple of times in the scenes. They made him fight like someone who didn't know what he was doing. McConaughey is so fucking over-the-top in this film, I love it.
This was McConaughey's best lose-the-shirt scene LOL
Denton Van Zan is my favorite movie character ever, he is a streight up beast!
goddam Matthew McCounehey is ripped
THAT'S WHAT WE NEEEED
Damn it Bale, you're the goddamn Batman....
***** That movie was way before Batman
+Marcinex before he got initiated aren't we
its a leverage advantage; in close fighting it allows for quicker more powerful swings and better grappling control, at the cost of reach
that was epic !! That was not there in the screenplay . McConaughey surprised Bale and they continued the fight scene. It seems later after filming the scene Bale gave McConaughey a mouthfull !!!!!!
I love it when denton says: Thats what we need!!!!
oh man, no i wasnt saying that one instance when i was talking about the fight at a party, they werent americans with welsh or scottish heritage, i ment thats where they were from wales and scotland, we were on a euro trip in a place called prague or something like that
Rain of fire is my most favorite dragon movie. And the fighting scene is also one of the best.
fuckin hell he headbutted him for real in this scene! they hated each other on the set or so it goes
don't go to the ground, if you're fighting with fists and the guy is heavier than you DON'T GO TO THE GROUND!!! he'll use his strength and kick your ass. you have to stay on your feet and mobile when fighting big dudes.
I don't know if you were watching, Quinn didn't have a choice.
^I know that but still just felt like putting it out there.
I understand, it's not like you're wrong but I don't think Denton was bullshiting.
amen to that.
Quinn didn't have a choice, was knocked to the ground and at the end regretted the fight and was beginning to feel faint
I love how stupid this fight is and how slow they move lmao
The only movie that Matthew kicked ass in and was also a badass.
Magic mike ain't got shit denton
Love Van Zan. I think he makes the movie.
That was some fucking headbutt

Holy crap... that headbutt!
Matthew was looking like a beast in this movie. He played a pretty scary dude.
i agree, same thing popped into my mind before i got the movie, at the time i was crazy about matthew but now i'm a huuugeee christian bale fan, even after that screaming n swearing incident :P
Goddamn, cover a man in full body tribals and grease ripped as hell. Oh the things that can happen.
Gotta love the headbutt
this was well done
Matthew McConaughey is a fucking beast in that movie.
I love the way van zan growls
WOW! McConaughey´s Trapezius muscles are awesome!
I love how fucking intense Matthew's character is in this movie. Matthew is freaking ripped in this movie and hes a country boy so im thinking he would take Bale in a real life fight. Nonetheless, 2 very good actors in one awesome movie.
what's funny is that in the next scene, Bale is shirtless and he's like he got like 40lbs of muscles more than Matthew
+Pedro Reinaldo Word!
Think they wanted Quinn to loose to show Alex affection for him, that's why Quinn had to loose badly, feel faint and end up helpless
This is sick...
I would take both of them on as I am an expert in close combat.
Matthew McConaughey is so underrated as a badass in this movie. VAN-ZAN is a dragonslayer!!!!!!!! I made him my Skyrim character--but gave him a mohawk
HHAAHAHAHAH @ "thats what we need " This guy was intense .
he sounds like a dragon ahahahaha
i bet you that matthew can death growl like a monster lol XD
Edward Norton fucking rocks surely underrated
Support Edward Norton
Actually most of this fighting wasn't choreographed, they actually hit each other quite a bit and this was before Christian Bale had had any sort of combat training so, given that he's smaller, he would have lost, which he mostly really did.
the rage virus is from 28 days later right
what? i never named any particular fighter... what are you talking about anyway?
Since when are short arms an advantage?
@SecretDimension its my personal Opinion?
worst onscreen beating he took until tom hardy came around
Who do you think wins? Bane vs Van Zant? I love a fight with those two names by the way.
Gootothesecond
lol Bane all the way, Van Zan was better off fighting dragons.
I think it's be a good fight. I'd give it to Bane. Van Zant can match Bane's strength, ferocity, and viciousness but Bane is technically superior and faster. Bane and Van Zant sounds like a match between fighting game characters.

what does christian bale says at 1:02?
@RelleRoulette "hes gonna bring him back here" and he ment the huge pimp dragon
sounds like Van Zam's got a frog in his throat lol
nasty headbutt OUCH
Is it me or does denton sound like Batman from the HISHE Channel
I feel so sorry for Bale in this scene, Matthew beaten him
from then on he vowed to avenge his honor and never lose a fight in films agian
+jon kidd except for bane
Yes Quinn was doing the best for his people but they didn't do anything when he needed help, only Alex stopped Van Zan and saved Quinns life
yes
how was Quinn still conscious?? don't think he would have been much longer
its not rain of fire its reign of fire dude
2nd time Batman gets broken haha
Hopefully not the book that left such a chip on your shoulder.
TO LONDON!!!
I'll try. I still think you're reading way to much into it though
They are supposed to be fighting dragons not each other.
indeed. christian bale is amazing. i am a hard core fangirl of his. i too would love to help clean those wounds. that man is the most sexiest thing i have ever seen. and getting to see his ass on american psycho was the highlight of my life. lol. though his character wierded me out. he was still one gorgeous man. and he should have kicked van zan's ass. i dont like dragon killers. van zan was never one of my favs. he made americans look like jack asses.

Matt would whoop that ass in real life as well.. The head butt was just a preview lol
Leonidas vs Bruce Wayne
that's matthew McCounihey
batman got beaten... again :D
OI! I SAID NO!!!!
ok in this film McConaughey is seen as tougher but if this was not the movies Bale would have killed him.
Batman vs Stripper
no no no, van zan is insane, did you hear his voice? :)

Yawn, wake up and read a book
whats up the growling...*punch* hawk
Yeah... No he wouldn't. lol
@Grdemon Lol
Nolan must of got inspiration from seeing Denton and he based Bane off him.
but still its a good effect.. with the saliva and stuff
Fortunately for van zan bale wasn't a viking
