Artis Gilmore: THE MOST DOMINANT CHICAGO BULL OF ALL TIME… Until Michael Jordan | FPP

  • Considered one of the strongest players to ever play, he was to the ABA what Wilt Chamberlain was to the NBA, a physically dominant force that was simply too big and too strong for his competition, Artis Gilmore put together one of least talked about all time great careers. He was made NCAA history with the University of Jacksonville Dolphins, leading them on an improbable run to the 1970 NCAA title game. He would choose the ABA over the NBA, where he would join forces with Dan Issel and Louie Dampier on the Kentucky Colonels. Gilmore put together one of the greatest ABA careers of all time, winning rookie of the year, being a perennial all star and all defensive team member, an ABA champion and league MVP. He was the first pick in the 1976 Dispersal draft and would join a Chicago Bulls team that was never able to put it together while they had one of the best players in the league in Gilmore. During his time there, he was routinely one of the best rebounders and shot blockers in the league while shooting the ball with incredible efficiency, but with his best teammate being a young Reggie Theus, Chicago made just two playoff appearances in Gilmore’s time there. He was traded to San Antonio late in his career to team up with George Gervin, but both of these players’ best years were behind them, and although they made a conference finals in 1983, the team would decline after that. Gilmore would spend his final year in the league between Chicago and Boston and even spend a year overseas. But when he wrapped up his professional career, his ABA and NBA totals were some of the highest in history at the time, and he also holds the highest career field goal percentage in both the ABA and NBA. He was incredibly durable and unselfish and although he was knocked for not having a mean streak, he still dominated year in and year out, and that’s why the A-Train deserves more credit.

Good Deal... The 'A' Train was way underrated for a Hall of Fame center. Do one on Buck Williams from the 1980s starting on the Nets, along with Andrew Toney playing on the Sixers as well, during that same time span, when the Sixers were one of the premier teams early part of the decade, up there with the Lakers and Celtics winning a championship led by Moses and The Doctor.

I dunno there's also Chet Walker, Bob Love and Jerry Sloan. Artis might have been more valuable on the bulls but I think they're all roughly the same.

Pittsburgh Pipers who are the only Basketball team to win a Chip in that city or even maybe the Utah Stars who won a Ring meanwhile the Jazz haven't. I'm sorry just a big ABA fan and their branding

He was never 7ft 2 NBA height exaggeration he was 2 inches shorter than Wilt who always underestimated his height Wilt was 7ft 2 barefoot Kareem was 7ft 2.5 barefoot but Wilt had longer arms and legs than Kareem but Wilt had a short neck in pictures Wilts shoulders are higher than Kareem's and his eyes are higher on his head so Kareem actually has to look up a bit to Wilt bit his forehead was short Wilt had a shorter head although it was larger in circumference that is why Wilt was smarter than Kareem but in pics, you can see Kareem was just a tiny amount taller its hard to see as it is such a tiny amount less than half an inch due to Kareem's long head and big hair, but Wilt was longer and bigger than Kareem had a 3 inch taller reach and could jump higher that's why he could block the sky hook so many times it really mad Kareem mad that someone was bigger than him. Go to 13.12 on the video it clearly shows Wilt is taller.

Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose Again on the third day according to the scriptures. The Bible says that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved (Romans 10:9).

@@mrboo3049 Actually Wilt was rarely, rarely, mean. Than was one of Russell's major criticism's of him. Wilt himself said he never wanted to be seen as a big bully. If Wilt had Malone's emotional intensity...........OUCH!! Your comments about Artis are spot on though.

Those who saw ARTIS play in his prime up until he retired. Will definitely say like I've said. Even ROBERT PARISH knows what kind of a strong and physical ARTIS is.. many truly believe ARTIS was more closer to WILT in terms of STRENGHT than SHAQ
