    For the Bulls not to retire this guys number is absolutely disgusting. He was unreal. If he got the ball in the paint it was over. You could not stop him. Played defense, ran the court, blocked shots. How the Bulls treated this guy for being a quiet gentleman was crazy. He is my 2nd favorite player of all time next to Dr. J. Always remember, the ABA is the NBA.

      John Flanagan Nah they didn’t. The bulls are my team, but they be on dirt with respecting their legends. There is no reason why Artis Gilmore & Dennis Rodman’s numbers shouldn’t be hanging from the rafters. Just look at how the bulls treated Scottie Pippen during his whole time there.

    • @anonymike8280
      @anonymike8280 3 года назад

      @Tong Zou Nate Thurmond was there for a year and few games the next one. He was Nate the Great for one season, but the next year he just couldn't play on that level anymore and he was quickly traded to Cleveland. He was bitter about his time in Chicago, and as soon as his career was over he went back to San Francisco, where he lived for the rest of his life.
      There were fans in Chicago who appreciated Thurmond for his role in the Bulls doomsday defense.

    • @anonymike8280
      @anonymike8280 3 года назад +2

      The Bulls are stingy with their retired numbers. Among the Chicago greats whose numbers are not retired are Chet Walker, Norm Van Lier, Dennis Rodman and Tom Boerwinkle in addition to Gilmore. Some think Van Lier should be in the Hall of Fame as a player. Boerwinkle, a center, was nowhere near a Hall of Fame player but he was a Chicago great noted for his rebounding, passing and ability to set screens. The only Bulls retired numbers belonged to Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Not like it costs a fortune to retire a number.

    What a class act. I am so pleased that he emphasized the ABA and his excellent Kentucky Colonels championship team. There is no question that there is a special bond among ABA players. They struggle to be recognized because of the lack of national media attention but I'm certain that the basketball establishment (meaning the NBA( knew that many of the ABA players were outstanding. That was proven immediately after the merger. Artis Gilmore: Outstanding player and person.

    Yup, I knew there was a strong bias against Artis when I found out Bob Lanier ended up getting in ahead of him in the HOF back in the early 90s and Lanier was only a year older by comparison. Plus the '75 Colonels were indeed the best team in pro-basketball that season and Artis was the runaway MVP in that championship series against the Pacers, he was so dominant at both ends. Rick Barry's '75 Warriors were so lucky the Colonels were in the ABA or they wouldn't have stood a chance in hell, lol!
