Best Bulls Center of ALL TIME!!!!
Better than Bill Cartwright,
Better than Bill Cartwright. Will Purdue. Luc Longley
lloyd kline luc lonely trash
lloyd kline yeah they all trash
I know right
Congratulations Artis Gilmore! best side Burns ever in professional basketball!
class act. vastly underrated.
#4 All Time Blocks and #5 All Time Rebounds yet no-one ever mentions him in any GCOAT convo cause he never won a ring in the NBA but did in the ABA instead 😔
What a wonderful speech from a great player and generous human being. The A-Train put up some incredibly strong stats in his day, but he's even more impressive for his character, class, and dignity.
So happy they inducted the A-train into the Hall of Fame. He truly is a nice man and was a magnificent basketball player.
Why you type like dat
The guy was a CENTER!!!!! In the same level with Hakeem, Ewing, David Robinson Shaq, Moses Malone!!!
Ευδόξιος Λεονταράς Kareem and Wilt Too
@@Vontaveus803 Those two are the best ever! They are not at the same level.
No, he's in the level of Kareem, Shaq and Wilt had he had a better team. He was trapped in the KG situation for most of his career, his situation was even worse and wayy more extensive than KG's situation with the twolves.
Definitely!!
And thank you for all the memories you gave us Chicago fans in the 70's.
A-Train All time lists: #4 in blocks, #5 in rebounds, #11 in Win Shares, and #28 in points.
That is a class man. Humble and appreciative. Not egotistical and entitled. My first real NBA favorite.
For the Bulls not to retire this guys number is absolutely disgusting. He was unreal. If he got the ball in the paint it was over. You could not stop him. Played defense, ran the court, blocked shots. How the Bulls treated this guy for being a quiet gentleman was crazy. He is my 2nd favorite player of all time next to Dr. J. Always remember, the ABA is the NBA.

Well said!!!!
I know this is a very late reply, but I"m pretty sure the Bulls did retire his #53 a couple of years ago.
John Flanagan Nah they didn’t. The bulls are my team, but they be on dirt with respecting their legends. There is no reason why Artis Gilmore & Dennis Rodman’s numbers shouldn’t be hanging from the rafters. Just look at how the bulls treated Scottie Pippen during his whole time there.
@Tong Zou Nate Thurmond was there for a year and few games the next one. He was Nate the Great for one season, but the next year he just couldn't play on that level anymore and he was quickly traded to Cleveland. He was bitter about his time in Chicago, and as soon as his career was over he went back to San Francisco, where he lived for the rest of his life.
There were fans in Chicago who appreciated Thurmond for his role in the Bulls doomsday defense.
The Bulls are stingy with their retired numbers. Among the Chicago greats whose numbers are not retired are Chet Walker, Norm Van Lier, Dennis Rodman and Tom Boerwinkle in addition to Gilmore. Some think Van Lier should be in the Hall of Fame as a player. Boerwinkle, a center, was nowhere near a Hall of Fame player but he was a Chicago great noted for his rebounding, passing and ability to set screens. The only Bulls retired numbers belonged to Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Not like it costs a fortune to retire a number.
I saw Artis live an in person as a young boy grab 40 rebounds against Dr.J an the NY Nets while playing for Kentucky in the ABA....
James i was at that game also..he was awesome..peace
great speech
He led one of the best basketball teams from the 70's, the 1975 Kentucky Colonels of the ABA, to the championship, they were as good as any NBA team was then...
The Colonels should've played the champions of the NBA: Warriors, Celtics, Suns whoever won the chip in the NBA at that time.
The Kentucky Colonels would've beat the hell out of all thise NBA teams then. That's why the NBA incorporated the ABA teams that were able to salvage their franchise.
@@aarondigby9859yea you right about that
Most underrated player of all time. Top 10 center in my mind, barely top 30 in others minds.
A dominant center no doubt, Jabbar could not dominate Artis, Bob Lanier, Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone, etc,...
Top ten for sure..
About damn time.
Dr j has introduced so many players to the basketball hall of fame. What an honor that so many players young and old love this man.... definitely the goat 🐐🙌🏾💯
The ABA had the greatest players and the most entertaining brand of basketball! Julius Erving, Artis Gilmore, David Thompson, George Gervin, Moses Malone, Connie Hawkins, Dan Issel, Louie Dampier, Spencer Haywood, George McGinnis, Rick Barry! Long live the 1975 Kentucky Colonels and long live the ABA!
That 1975 Colonels team was incredible
All criminally underrated
I never knew that Moses played in the ABA.
The ice man
@@joshuasussman4020 I never new hueby brown coached in the aba
To .
I wish I could add a photo here. I had the privilege and honor to meet Mr. Gilmore yesterday at a marketing event in Orlando, Florida. Very nice and humble man and almost crushed my hand 😂
Teddy Mirzaian yea many player talk about how strong he is and not being aware of it.
@@atlaslion5128 People say he was the strongest basketball player ever next to Wilt Chamberlain.
Great speech. What a player he was.
Artis is an underrated player and should’ve been a Hall of Famer much sooner.
The gentle giant.
I think his speech was the best out of this years hall of fame speeches. Glad to see him finally get what he deserves
It was about damn time!
He was a f*ckin' beast!
What a tremendous human being....
I love looking up players I discover in 2k.
Basketball has a rich history that can easily be overlooked.
Best fg percentage of any player In history. This guy was the definition of efficiency.
What a class act. I am so pleased that he emphasized the ABA and his excellent Kentucky Colonels championship team. There is no question that there is a special bond among ABA players. They struggle to be recognized because of the lack of national media attention but I'm certain that the basketball establishment (meaning the NBA( knew that many of the ABA players were outstanding. That was proven immediately after the merger. Artis Gilmore: Outstanding player and person.
Loved watching him play. I don't believe I ever heard him speak until now which is too bad because he seems to be a classy, nice and honorable man.
Just imagine if Artis went to the NBA in 71 instead of the ABA and joined the Bulls with Chet, Jerry, Bob, and Norm I really think they would have won at least one championship together.
Wow this man gave glory and honor to the only one who saves Jesus Christ
Class act, unselfish, humble elite talent, my all time fav! Respect.
Artist Gilmore nailed it in CLASS! Dr J leading the way!
Its about time the A train gets in the hall of fame We need more ABA Players in the Hall of fame . The A Train is a very underrated player. Long Live the ABA.
Best HOF speech I've ever seen. Gilmore is a class act.
The best in rebound center and layups and fast breaks
Any Bulls or NBA fan of the time know he waited far too long for enshrinement. My first Bulls hero.
lol look how haappy and impressed Walton was xDD
Artis and Dr. J had two of the greatest Afros of all time. Unfortunately they did not fully survive to this ceremony.
I had to learn about him I didn't know he was a center for the bulls until I played 2k and this guy was always mvp for my team congratulations a train
What a great speaker this man is. It was nice to listen to. He could bring it
Just a fine humble man
Well done sir
Was my favorite player back when i was rockin my leather ABA ball in 68-69' Kentucky Colonels ❤🏀
You must have been clairvoyant because Artis was still in college at that time. But those ABA balls were awesome
That's one of the best speeches of all time.
It took way too long to put him in!! Best Chicago center of all time!
One of the most underrated players and centers of the late 70’s and early 80’s
Yup, I knew there was a strong bias against Artis when I found out Bob Lanier ended up getting in ahead of him in the HOF back in the early 90s and Lanier was only a year older by comparison. Plus the '75 Colonels were indeed the best team in pro-basketball that season and Artis was the runaway MVP in that championship series against the Pacers, he was so dominant at both ends. Rick Barry's '75 Warriors were so lucky the Colonels were in the ABA or they wouldn't have stood a chance in hell, lol!
extraordinario jugador! y gran discurso
it's about damn time.
I grew up watching the A-Train play for the Kentucky Colonels, I always admired his class. Artis Gilmore, Dan Issel, and Louie Dampier. I agree with Artis assessment that in 1975 The Kentucky Colonels were the best team in professional basketball that year. You should have been in the Hall of Fame much sooner.
Artis is my second favorite post man to ever play the game. Similar in many ways to my favorite, Wilt Chamberlain. Powerful, as much about defense as scoring, an immovable in the low box. Loved watching him play.
For my money, the most underrated player in pro basketball history.
The best, most humble BHOF enshrinement ever from the most underappreciated, most humble basketball star ever! I didn't know he had such a great sense of humor! If only his knees had held up! Right on Artis Gilmore!
One of the best speeches ever congratulations
Artis Gilmore Daugther that is sitting next 2 his wife @4:52. Is very nice looking. I say that with all respect 2 him & his daugther.
Forget his daughter, his wife is actually ridiculous hot after 40 years😍
AWESOME quality man!!!
A Great Man,A Humble Man,and one of the Greatest Players to ever come from the Florida Panhandle. Thank you Mr.Gilmore.
I can’t believe I learned about this guy within the last week. Good vibes
What a great speech. I saw Artis one day in O”hare airport in the late 70”s. He towered over the sea of humanity there, especially with that huge “fro”, that made him over 8 feet tall! Kids of all ages had to run to keep up with his walking stride. So cool.
The A Train🚂- one of three players that blocked Kareem's unstoppable skyhook shot - the other two players are Edgar Jones and Larry Nance, Sr. Being a 7 footer and a lefty is scary to most players.
Michael Cooper Dont forget Ralph sampson. He got kareem one time too.
Michael Cooper can
Wilt blocked one too
Wilt blocked several, especially after he got a little mad.
Mad respect for Mr. Artis Gilmore as a hall of famer and a legend of the ABA and NBA.
He came to Chicago the year I started watching pro basketball tears are streaming down my face
WONDERFUL tribute, Artis!!
I loved his including his wife's contributions with their family. He was always a very humble man, and one that I admired greatly. Wonderful speech, Artis!!👏👏👏
What a gracious person.
Wonderful speech, and I am sure from a very good man! :)
are you on crack
Justin Lambert Clue me in then Justin.......
Was going through basketball reference site and saw him listed as an MVP and never heard of him before, even though I am fond of a lot of names of great players that were around before my time. The NBA has so many stories to tell, always nice to find one you didn't know before so you can respect their legacies and maybe even spread the word.
A great athlete and person!
one my favorite player always has class
Dope...
The greatest bulls center ever
Much Gratitude
i know him he goes to my church
Wow
Excellent speech
Nba legend gilmore and more
*Great Speech ARTIS :)*
This was so underrated, shame the Bulls have not retired his jersey
Best center they ever had by a country mile, the disrespect is 100% REAL!
😑👎
I always wondered what it would’ve been like for Jordan to have played with a prime Gilmore.
I have very nice memories of the handful of Kentucky Colonels' games Dad took us to way back when and of course I will always the players to include Artis Gilmore. Good times back then.
I just got his college jersey 🔥
I’m surprised it took him this long to make it.
Class as ever
The A-Train...I loved watching him play!!
Class, a man of God has a way about him.
Artist 'the A Train' was the EPITOME of TALL class. Don't recall NOTHING negative that effected this character on OR off the court throughout his career.
Bulls all-time lineup
PG : Derrick Rose
SG : Michael Jordan
SF : Scottie Pippen
PF : Dennis Rodman
C : Artis Gilmore
2k20👌❤️👏
Congrats to a class act
Now that's a speech.
Always loved the A-Train !
A real gentleman!
Thats how you make a speech... elegant simple the deep voice doesnt hurt either hahaha.. but all in all the guy is one hella scary center to face in the perimeter...A-Train is absolute beast
taira capeta
Totally agree. He moved u where ever he wanted. Funny thing though , he was probably too nice
....i owe a debt to all... dont hear that anymore.
A great player and a class act.
Artis !!!!!
Seems like a really cool guy.
👍😎👍
Artis is the best Bulls player of the pre-Jordan era!!!
Humble man
