    I'm using these right now. I'm making a set of leg warmers. A 2x2 rib. Very basic.
    I have been trying to knit for a very long time. I am a crocheter. Knitting is sorcery or witchcraft. I have never been able to knit.
    Except, with these needles, what I'm calling cheater needles, I'm knitting beautifully. And I'm doing it easily. And my neck doesn't hurt from all of the frustration and angst I usually experience when trying to knit.
    These may not be anything special for long-time Knitters, but if you're trying to teach somebody to knit, or you're trying to learn yourself, this is the way.
    These needles are magical.

      I feel the exact same way!!! I’m a crocheter first and I feel like the end of these needles helped me “hook” it in a way. I hope your leg warmers came out well! I wanted to make a pair myself lol

      They turned out beautifully! I've got a second pair in the works, along with a matching brioche hat, cowl, and wristlets, and two different lace shawls going too.
      I have a long way to go before I'll consider myself even half as good a knitter as I am a crocheter, but I'm getting there. And enjoying it!

    Your definition/discussion of the term "ergonomic" is amazing! Wonderful review of the pryms - what an interesting design.

    Thanks for your review. I have an hereditary tremor in my hands which got worse with age. I found it very useful to have an interchangeable tunisian crochet hook on my right needle to help me hook the stitches as I knitted. We all use ways and means of getting around ergonomic problems. Great to hear someone else is thinking along the needle design angle.

    I just knit an entire shawl with these needles and loved them! So quick and comfortable. I just wish more sizes were available in the US.

    Thanks for the review, Rox! Great video, well researched and (as always) well presented. Keeping up to date with the tools of the trade is just as important as learning new skills...
    I have to say it again: "Rox rocks!"

    I have arthritis in my hands and have found these needles really nice to knit with. My hands are not as sore and I can certainly knit for longer. I like the way they curve to fit my body .... I’m knit with left needle under my arm. I’ve only used the straight needles so far. For me worth the extra expense and prefer them to bamboo. Happy yarning everyone x

    I don't know why these needles aren't more hyped than they are. My first Prym needle was a circular size 7 as I was trying it out. I love it but they weight of my work (a full size blanket) proved to be too heavy and the cable began to fray where it meets the body of the needle, which started to snag the yarn. I loved this needle so much, I had to have them replaced and I now own the size 9 circular as well as two sets of the single tipped that click into place. I definitely will own more of these as they make me feel like I'm knitting butter and are way quieter than other needles I've used.

    These look so cool! I struggle a lot with pulling the yarn through the stitch so I'd really enjoy trying these babies. I think I'm going to give them a try!

    Greetings...as a Rhem Arthritis person, left wrist and two fingers affected, I have added these needles to my collection. I have notice with the straights that my wrist/fingers are not so stressed. I have not tried the circulars or DPNs yet. However, I will add that I have not see a 9" circular in this brand as I tend to try to knit socks...(learning) so I bought a ChiaoGoo set. But, all in all, for me, is to take frequent breaks...and do something different with my hands, such as exercise my fingers/wrist. Drag doesn't bother me as much as hand/wrist pain. Thanks for the overview.

    I just purchased a pair last week. I love the cable portion however I'm still trying to find a love for the actual needle part. I'm finding my yarn is not sliding as smoothly as if I was working with the metal needles.

  • @jpeood32

    i felt they were worth trying out as well, however, I found that "catch stitch" a problem after it happened every time I turned the work. Yes, they feel good in the hand and are light, however, they drag excessively for my taste hand fatigued my hands. I do love the teardrop tip. I purchased 2- 32 inch circulars and will not be purchasing in the future. Because of the drag, I may consider DPNs since the drag might keep the needles from falling out of the work. The big plus, like chiaogoo, are the cables, the connections are a problem and I didn't experience any benefits from the bent part of the needle end/connection. It may very well catch less if it were straight. This is my humble opinion and experience, I'm not out to convince any believers otherwise.

    I have these, and the one feature I enjoy is the bobble on the tip. I would prefer them in stainless steel thought because the yarn doesn't slide as well. I can lay my work down and the stitches don't fall off. My tension is probably to strong because of the drag. The tip is perfect! And the part of the join to the wire does stick a bit on mine as well when pushing the yarn over that area.

    I have the 4.5 mm and 5.0 mm Prym Circular Ergonomic Knitting Needles, and I absolutely adore knitting with them!! I enjoyed watching your video, and also having you confirm that these needles are not yet available in the US; which is a pity. I'd love to have every size from US 1 to US15 in every length cable from 16" to 60". They are amazing!

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson  6 лет назад +3

      I've given up on having circular needles of every length, because I always end up needing a size/length combination I don't have. I use a 32'' circ for everything, whether I am knitting flat or in the round, and regardless of width or circumference (exceptions made when knitting very wide blankets!). I change my technique, rather than change my needles! How do you like that little bumpy tip?

    Thank you for the informative video. I want to try these. It seems like the teardrop tip would be better suited to bulkier yarns, and might become cumbersome as you get down to light fingering and lace weights?

  • @Gladtobemom

    I've got a pair of the straights, 9mm. I picked them up on a whim because they click together to hold the stitches and I had plans to knit a scarf with Misti Alpaca Chunky. I found them to be easy to use and for the increases, decreases and yarn overs in my pattern, the tips were quite helpful.
    I ordered mine through Amazon, but they were shipped from the UK.

    This was a great video. I love finding out about new (to me) tools, different ways of doing the same stitch etc.. I do the type of knitting you showed, pushing on the tip of the needle when i get the stitch off. What projects do you think these would be best for, as I usually like the metal slippery needles best so I can knit more quickly. After a lifetime of straight needle knitting I watched videos to learn circular. Then bought myself a set of Hiya Hiya interchangeable 5" Sharp needles. Thanks for the info :)

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson  6 лет назад

      Because my preference is metal needles, I would use these for the same types of projects I would use bamboo needles for, which is projects with slippery yarn. Because that tip does such a good job recapturing sts and preventing sts from splitting, I would also use them for projects where the yarn might easily split, like a yarn made of two different threads that weren't plied together.

    I have been pleasantly surprised with these needles! I found them very easy to knit with and the stitches are beautifully formed, which I appreciated while knitting Istex as the yarn is not of constant diameter. I was not sure about the tips but they grab knit together etc without any problem. I do not knit continental, but what is called English style when only one finger of the right hand deals with the yarn, others hold the needle. It was very comfortable. The joint is smooth, the cable perfect. I tried the double pointed size 2.5 for socks. They also work well, my only problem is they are a little flexible in that size for my tight sock knitting. Otherwise I love the circular, and will definitely purchase more.

    On the plus side - the cable doesn't twist and the needles are lovely and smooth to knit with... on the minus side - On my very first project using them, (simple stocking stitch Raglan sleeve sweater), one of the needle tips broke off. So so much for that! .. Will never buy these type again.

    It seems like not every store carries every size of the needle and like not all sizes are available in the USA. At the German jawolle.de I can get DPNs in 2,5 mm to 8 mm and circulars in 2,5 mm to 12 mm. I seem to remember even a German official promotional website not having the 2,5 mm though. Maybe the special tip works better for the larger sizes? Or they want to try out the market first.
    I've seen extremely mixed reviews, some rather negative. But some people enjoyed them enough that I think I'll probably try them at some point. I think it's at least nice to see some new ideas, those can be further optimized if at least some of it workes out.
    The tip, or variations on tips in general could be interesting. When I tried knitting the first time, I definitely wanted something more like a crochet hook to pull the yarn through. So a version that makes forming stitches easiert while not impeding speed is interesting, and may also be nice for beginners. Somebody also once mentioned that her grandmother had carved little notches in the tips of her wooden knitting needles. Though her grandmother did Portugese knitting and used the knotches to flick the yarn in Portugese purling, it's the same concept.
    With so many different knitting styles out there, some equipment is always going to work better for some people than for others. Though it's also interesting that it probably also happens the other way around. With circular needles being so popular in many places, that's probaly gonna make people less likely to become pit-knitters or use tools like knitting belts. (And needle choices can influence pattern popularity and...)

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson  6 лет назад

      It could be an issue with what they can keep in stock or what a particular store thinks they can sell. I know that when I ordered on Amazon, I could get circulars in the 80cm/32'' length, but not in the 60cm/24'' length.

  • @lankanainen

    I very much enjoy knitting with these needles and would happily switch over to using them exclusively, except they have one major flaw: the join between the needle and the cable is weak and breaks easily. I've made a few projects with these needle and have had several different sizes break already. I'm an experienced knitter and have used many different brands and types of needles over the years, and only rarely does the cable detach. So whilst I applaud Prym for the shape and texture of the needles themselves, I have zero confidence in the cable join and I will not purchase any more needles in this range.

    • @RoxanneRichardson
      @RoxanneRichardson  6 лет назад +2

      The needle size you need depends on the yarn you plan to use, and the project you plan to knit. For beginners, I usually recommend a 4.5 to 5.0 mm (US 7 or 8) and worsted weight yarn, and then I point them toward a pattern that requires that yarn weight. I have a free pattern on Ravelry that I designed for my beginning knitters. You might like it: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/easy-fingerless-mitts-3

    • @monicamadrid4852
      @monicamadrid4852 6 лет назад

      The easy way to know is simple, when you choose a yarn you like, the outer paper wrapped around the yarn will tell you what size knitting needle or crochet needles to use with that yarn. "Worsted " is a stupid name and confusing. To make it simple the yarns have a weight size, worsted is usually size 4. This ia the weight that all beginner patters will use. So like the previous lady told you size 5 needles a must. And after that, You should read your new patterns for what size needles it calls for. When I first start there were 3 sizes. 5, 6, 7 and 8. Most often used. But start with 5 if you are learning slowly and buy as you need them.
