Chhaap Tilak Sab Chheeni (چھاپ تلک سب چھینی) was written and composed by Amir Khusro, Sufi Mystic, back in the 14th century. which means, what you are listening to has been transferred as an oral tradition from generation to generation for 700 years. Here is your real connection with history. Without Amir Khusro, there would be no Hindustani Classical Music, in the way we know it today. Khusro also invented the Sitar. He took the traditional two-headed drum, the pakhawaj (which till date is used with dhrupad music) sliced it down the middle into two independent drums, thus birthing the tabla.
Muslims who pray five times a day, can get a mark on the forehead, where over the years, it has come into contact with the floor. This is called the 'chhap' The 'tilak' is a religious mrak, usually of sandlewood paste that a Hindu might wear on his forehead, more or less in the same place where the chhaap appears for the Muslims. The sufis were mystics...saints whose understanding of the supreme being transcended the boundaries of a particular religion. They often converse with the supreme being like one would converse with their lover. Their relationship with god was tender and effervescent... almost romantic in nature. Here Khusro says, the moment he/she (god )lay eyes on him, he has forgotten about the chhaap or the tilak and has simply surrendered to love. I summarise, of course. Because you can talk for a lifetime about every sentense Khusro wrote.

Coke studio is the best thing that Pakistan has given to the world...
What you are watching is a poem by 13th century poet and Sufi mystic Hazrat Amir Khusrau whose rendition is performed by these two great singers....he's probably the first Sufi to have used music and lyrics in Indigenous Braj bhasha to propagate the message of love and peace...

Sufis only propagated Islam, using complexities of love and intricacies of poetry. Modern secular audience remove the religious bit and retain the poetic. It is injustice to Sufism.

The only reason Rahat was aggressive here is because he was being competitive. Singing along with Abida Parveen isn't a joke. She wasn't aggressive here. You should check when she goes into trance. Rahat knows that and thats why he had to put his best performance here.

You've taken away my look (chaap), my identity (tilak), and everything(sub) from me by looking into my eyes.
You've said the unsaid (adham = secrets of divine nature), just by a glance.
By making me drink the love of devotion.
    You've intoxicated me by just a glance;
My fair, delicate wrists with green bangles on them,
Have been taken off by you with just a glance.
I give my life to you, Oh my cloth-dyer,
You've dyed me like yourself, by just a glance.
I give my whole life to you Oh, Nizam,

You've said the wonder, by just a glance.

This type of Music is called Sufi Music. which is about Love, You can say about the highest level of Love. and that love could be with your GOD. It is the state where you forget about the world, you are out of this world, you think deep, you don't care about anything going around you, you don't even notice these little things. your mind is another world.
And Similarly Sufi Music, makes you feel that state. it connects you to that world. that state. and this can only be felt, you cant explain this feeling.
Just listen Sufi music like this one. with headphones on, and when you are alone somewhere. You will forget about everything around you , will feel that amazing state for sometime. You will be so relaxed after listening to it.

Chaapp Tilak Sab Cheeni , is a Ghazal written and composed by Amir Khusro, a 14th-century Sufi mystic, in popular Western Indian language Braj Bhasha. Due to the resonance of its melody and mystical lyrics, it is frequently heard in Qawwali concerts across South Asia. Chaapp Tilak Sab Cheeni is considered as Amir Khusru‘s most known Kalam which is basically a penned version of his imagination of devotion and the joy of oneness with the eternal one. ❤️

Everyone else already said it, but I’m happy that you’re finally enjoying another Coke Studio 🇵🇰 song! You don’t do that enough, really. It’s such a treasure of great music, that you should ideally react to a Coke Studio 🇵🇰 every fortnight. Consider scheduling it in your planning. 😋
And I’m also aware that everyone else is saying it, and I’m just repeating it because it’s important: TURN THE LYRICS ON!! 📣💥🌪🧨😫
If you enjoyed hearing Abida Parveen, who is a legend by the way, please also watch the Coke Studio 🇵🇰 songs “Aaqa” (which she performed with the tremendously talented Ali Sethi) and “Dost”.
Speaking of Ali Sethi, you should REALLY, REALLY watch his videoclips as well. “Chan Kithan” and “Chandni Raat” in particular. 🥰 The songs are not just utterly beautiful, but the clips are thought-provoking as well.
I have so many songs in my mind from Coke Studio 🇵🇰 that I want you to react to as well: “Rang” by Hadiqa Kiani, “Bewajah” by Nabeel Shaukat, “Paar Chanaa De” by Noori & the wonderful Shilpa Rao, many more. ♥️💐🥳
Oh yes, one other thing: if you guys really liked Chaap Tilak, then there is - among millions - another wonderful version sung by the terrific Richa Sharma on some Indian competition tv show revolving around singing performances. I think the tv show was called Dhoom Macha De, and the jury members were Shankar Mahadevan, Sharmila Tagore, and Prasoon Joshi. Malaika Arora was the presenter. Do look it up! 🤩
