2:24 growing up 2 blocks from my Uncle LeeRoy’s house, I absolutely agree with Kevin. That was the coolest house in the neighborhood! I used to beg my dad to take me to “The Shop” all the time! So proud of Kevin, and proud to carry Rumley as my last name! 🏁6️⃣🏁
as a casual fan that lost track of “late model” dirt racing in early 80s after the “wedge” and only rediscovered it on nbc sport 32 years later after spending those years runnin 51:50 more hours than i wanna’ admit i really needed to hear from Mr. Rumley. Ive burned through every available video on you tube from 81’ to now, seen the evolution and continue to be blown away by it. Ive observed the peak where 115 cars with 40-50 potential winners and 40 more that battle to make the show turn into what remains and that it appears to correlate with arrival of Davenport, Rumley, Pierce arrivals. This video helps me put things into a better perception of what im seeing. THANK YOU.
Part 2 i hope you bring up the late great Scott Bloomquist. Heard he was often referred as a mad scientist, any conversations Rumley had with him and if he learned anything from the goat
Rumley needs to teach the next generation about dirt racing so the engineering knowledge doesn't go away after they're gone, just.like Scott Bloomquist...rip
Great interview Kenny. This man is intelligent beyond words. I’m glad he is on dirt racings side. The local racing is going away and it’s a shame. We need to get out and support the local tracks before they are all gone! Thanks to the Kohler family for resurrecting Friendship Motor Speedway ( now Ultimate M P).
I meet and talked to this man at the dream and he is one smart person and a great guy he talked to me for 20mins it was one day I will never forget al of my life
Congratulations on all your success Mr Rumley. It’s been a blast to watch you guys and trying to figure out what you guys were doing. I’m talking hours of conversation lol.
You and Kevin hit on something we talked about recently and Kevin would be the perfect guy to get something going with a tech school for these kids who have no avenue into the scene. Not sure how that looks but there has to be a way
I would move across the country and would live in a shed next to Rumleys shop and do everything he asked me to do to have the opportunity to learn from Mr. Rumley
JD cut his teeth in this red northga clay , sugercreek raceway in Blueridge Ga, Dixie speedway canton ga, Rome speedway Rome Ga, North Ga speedway etc and many more
Kenny going to World Finals at Charlotte can’t wait to see JD in the 6 and small tracks are struggling Albany Saratoga in Malta NY closing after next year great history there The King raced there along with many NASCAR greats people moved in around the track they don’t like the noise end of an era SAD
how much longer until an elaborate practice track is built? this track will have the dimensions of the largest relevant track with a 1/3 mile,1/4 mile, 1/5 mile all in one and will have enormous piles of red clay, midwestern dirt etc. to choose from lol
I can't help thinking that with a 2 race deal at the end of the year that......Rumley has found something that he trusts Davenport with. A test drive so to speak. I'll bet that 6 car is going to be really fast by Charlotte. Advancing longhorn technology
The biggest issue is the sheer cost to race now, a lot of parents cant get their kids involved due to that. I raced for years, retired now but what they spend on a weekend to race could carry me for a month on the late model tour, and I havent been retired that long. 60K+ engines, fuel at $18-$20 a gallon, tires not to mention wear and tear on the car truck etc. Same as all other types of racing, cost is killing the sport unfortunately.
i watched a wdtc where Mr. Bloomquist…and im pretty sure there were others…..in laymans terms…sprayed water out of the back of his car as he raced on dry, impassible days. I saw one race (94’ Pittsburger b-main #1) where it appeared to be working and another where i thought the entirety of pensboro was going to gobble him up whole after the race. Ask Rumley what would happen if ALL of the cars watered the track as they raced during long dry spells
Outlawed, they use a two stage shock now. Which is why you see the check the droop by jacking the back end up very very slowly so it doesn’t engage the 2nd stage
Have a little fun. That means Rumley has an idea. And being that JD was the only one to run The Device. JD is the one that can give him good feedback..
Going off another comment I saw kinda... 5-10 yrs ago super late models were a lot more competitive at the national level. The last few years its only a handful of guys running up front.. And so as a fan, why drive over an hour or two to a big race (spend $100 on gas, food and tickets) when you can just watch the same few guys win it from live stream or the highlights.. been a dirt racing fan since I was 5 yrs old, over 30 yrs.
Even crate late model and b-mods are out of reach for a regular 40 hour a week common man. To race at a competitive level these days, as a little guy, you have to have that 1 in a billion kinda tallent, and the guys with this kinda tallent end up in NASTARD or Indy car racing. Big time dirt late model racing is getting bigger because sponsors are pouring money into the highest profile teams.
Cost of the super late models and parts is the number reason super lates are dieing out not because of anything else. We quit racing super lates in the early 2000's because a of the nascar guys started owning teams for the n a tional scene . In 2010 or 2011 crate or super lates went to 30,000 dollars each chassis with a body. Way too much money for local guys to buy on their own putting out of the class. Super lates might of survived if they went to a 525 crate super lates but track owners would not try them as a class by themselves!

Absolutely outstanding interview Kenny! I could sit and listen to you and Kevin all day. Looking forward to part 2.
I believe Kevin has only scratched the surface of his abilities and future innovations in the Late Model world.
Kenny if there’s one dirt racer you need on the show is the KING Steve Kinser!

This is one of your best interviews. It was very informative and as a fan of the sport I have found I have much respect for Kevin.
Part 2 i hope you bring up the late great Scott Bloomquist. Heard he was often referred as a mad scientist, any conversations Rumley had with him and if he learned anything from the goat
Great listen! Kevin is extremely knowledgeable and we are lucky to have him in this sport.
Rumley needs to teach the next generation about dirt racing so the engineering knowledge doesn't go away after they're gone, just.like Scott Bloomquist...rip
Also, Rumley needs to put Kenny in one of his #6 super late models somewhere at some big race?
Great interview Kenny. This man is intelligent beyond words. I’m glad he is on dirt racings side. The local racing is going away and it’s a shame. Once again, Kenny hit it out of the park! Great interview.. Kevin confirmed a few things I was thinking, learned a little too.
The 6 car, winning 90% of every race they run when running, with Lee Roy or Kevin. Seen in since late 70's.
Congratulations on all your success Mr Rumley. It’s been a blast to watch you guys and trying to figure out what you guys were doing. I’m talking hours of conversation lol.

Hey Herman!!! Just stopping by to tell you that you are the man!
I enjoyed this cast very much..
That was Awesome Kenny!!
Kevin is a very modest guy and probably the smartest. He is playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers.
We need a part 2 lol. Just Messi by with you Hearm. But that was an awesome interview
I think Rumley and the Goat Bloomquist build a car that would lap the field twice in a 40 lap race
I would move across the country and would live in a shed next to Rumleys shop and do everything he asked me to do to have the opportunity to learn from Mr. Rumley
Kenny please please please part 2!
Great Interview Kenny! 👏
Kevin Rumley is the smartest guy in dirt late model racing.
great show Sir.
Could we have covered Larson winning at Port Royal in the second time he set in a DLM?
Nice job fellas , great talk.. Kenny you only wish you could grab that bag of tricks he has in his back pocket,, again great interview
We need part 2 please
Kevin can you help the Hunt the Front guy a little? They just burn up gas and tires.
Not now thay changed cars from longhorn to capital so their SOL !!!
There was a guy from Texas I believe in the 90's had a device called the claw. I wonder if Mr rumley drew any inspiration for his device?
JD cut his teeth in this red northga clay , sugercreek raceway in Blueridge Ga, Dixie speedway canton ga, Rome speedway Rome Ga, North Ga speedway etc and many more

Is he related to the Rumleys we ran against at Ace Speedway?
Lee Roy's son.. always a winner
how much longer until an elaborate practice track is built? this track will have the dimensions of the largest relevant track with a 1/3 mile,1/4 mile, 1/5 mile all in one and will have enormous piles of red clay, midwestern dirt etc. to choose from lol
What are you waiting for? Sounds like a great idea to me 😂
Scott Bloomquist will always be the best in setup and driving
You almost got him to give up all the secrets 😂
I can't help thinking that with a 2 race deal at the end of the year that......Rumley has found something that he trusts Davenport with. A test drive so to speak. I'll bet that 6 car is going to be really fast by Charlotte. Advancing longhorn technology
Need to get a program for kids to get involved so the sport doesnt get lost, apprentice programs work real good woth accentives.
Indeed. I’ve been lost at how to get my child involved
The biggest issue is the sheer cost to race now, a lot of parents cant get their kids involved due to that. @@Ever443 lawnmower racing it is lol
Several takeaways but one kept coming up repeatedly….Kenny loves Kenny.

If I could choose who to meet in Racing it would have been Smokey Yunick.
I wanted to hear his experience with larson
How much is a basic longhorn chassis cost skinned out
Was the "device" outlawed in SLM race circles, or is it used by everyone NOW??? Thanks Kenny and Kevin, enjoyed that!!!!
It was outlawed
Outlawed, they use a two stage shock now. Which is why you see the check the droop by jacking the back end up very very slowly so it doesn’t engage the 2nd stage
thanks faygo,bigblu
Has Kevin ever driven a dirt late model?
Have a little fun. That means Rumley has an idea. And being that JD was the only one to run The Device. JD is the one that can give him good feedback..

I like the idea about Steve kinser but I think it was Karl what is the brains behind the Kinsers
Where is Brian Vickers now?
Kenny w ur so good
Kenny u badass
