Joshua Barney did lead Marines in the Battle of Bladensburg, but that was only because he was the captain of a flotilla of gunboats that were destroyed by the British. He took several cannon from his boats, along with his sailors and Marines, and fought in the battle. His unit held their ground in Bladensburg and were eventually captured when the units around them fled.

Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular.

there is a uss barney. maybe a destroyer but it visited baltimore in the early eighties. visitors were allowed on board, which i did.
barney was the hero of bladensburg. his men did not run like the rest but charged the british. barney gave the order, "board them!" instead of charge.
in washington, barney met napoleon's brother jerome who had jumped ship in the west indies. he brought jerome to baltimore where he introduced the famous brother to the patterson family. that was how jerome met elizabeth, or betsy bonaparte. they married and sailed to europe, but napoleon would not allow her off the boat, so she went to london and had their child.
napoleon married jerome off to the queen of wurtemburg to keep the royal houses in the family, i believe.
jerome led forces at waterloo and lost many men attacking hougomont.
