I am so concerned about this issue,It is like a bad dream.I cannot understand how it can be allowed to happen when the cost of work to protect the next 50 years or so is actually not very great.
Personally, I would like to see the meanders restored, the meanders were the course of the original river. The current course of river is man made and is not natural. It is over managed and both the river and the upstream land have suffered as a result. The Adur, Ouse and Arun can not be compared as different geographically and better managed.
In Japan they have concreted all the rivers into drains. Most Japanese think it's terrible but it sounds like you would love it.

Ah, but the current river morphology is not natural. What's it to be? AGW-promoted flooding in Alfriston or engineered channels?
