Blind Test // 90s Techno #3 - Episode 8 (Electronic Beats TV)

- Опубликовано: 18 сен 2024
- This is episode eight of our highly popular Telekom Electronic Beats Blind Test Series and the third 90s Techno episode.
For this episode, we invited Australian native Claire Morgan, Black Nation head honcho Jay Denham, Dutch techno legend Steve Rachmad, leader of the new school Dax J, London stalwart Colin Dale and one of Russia’s finest exports, Dasha Rush to come and identify our picks from the past.
We dug deep into our record collection yet again for some 90s underground Techno goodies. So let the game begin, and as always, please try for yourself at home.
Please note that this video is not filmed in real time. It’s edited to create some tension so that you in front of the screen can guess as well. It doesn’t say anything about how fast the participants recognised the track etc.
All contestants receive one point for both artist and title correct, but only half a point if they can only guess the artist or the title.

Please support the artists who’s music is being played. You can find most of the tracks on the usual download platforms but we recommend checking their Bandcamp profiles first.

I never (ever) reply public.. I just realised the sample for the clip, is none other than Ellen's Call Me. Appreciate the homage..
@@reneshb which sample?
@@ElectronicBeatsTV this comment should be on your Bsides series instead..the opening and segway clips. All brilliant content.
So much fun! Thanks for the invite EB and for making this great series! : )))
You're awesome dude!
Thanks again!
You know that you are the best ! right? 🖤
Was a lot of fun Dax J. You did well x
Big fan from Belgium here
This is the "more 90's Techno blind test" Button
⬇
i see what u did there
And more Trance ones pls...the first one was too easy
I get so excited about these Blind Test videos, especially when it's 90s Techno. Black Sea is one of the finest Techno tunes ever, nice to see it here.
Fuck I’d love to be at a proper rave at around 530am, sunlight just barely starts coming in. You start to lose steam and then hear the beginning bass riff of Black Sea creeping in...
100% no one does it better than Detroit
that track is out of this world !!!!
@@PinchHarmonic69 aw mate had pretty much that experience a couple of years ago at aboutblanc in Berlin, at an Ilian tape night. the club part had ended and everyone was in the big wig wam tent outside and they dropped this in the early morning, was exactly how you might imagine.. such an amazing moment and record!!!
Whenever someone plays a Drexciya track I have a huge grin on my face. Thank you so so much.
I checked the comments just to find someone else who felt this way bless u
black sea was the only track i knew instantly
@@Ltasty I got 8 out of 10 but I'm an old man I guess ... ;-)
Drexciya - Black Sea is in another league. Sounds so distinct. Hearing that mixed in at a proper rave at 5:30am would be an experience.
this one got me from the first second i heard it back in the day.
yes, my dear fried you all right
I love this because i can learn about proper techno
When Dax said about Berghain "Every time this plays in the club, you know that club is peaking" I got shivers all over my body I miss that placeeee this really took me back
I thought I can't be the only one brother... Wanna dance to this song in Berghain...
+1 ... I didn't know the name of the track but definitely feel like I have heard it in there and it just took me back.
Fuck Berghain. I wanna go back to the 90's.
Attending Moritz playing this and others of his classics on the Berghain floor was something else
"no, it's too normal for Horrorist" hahaha i'm livingg
How cool was that! Had a load of fun but it's always more difficult when you're on the spot. Big love to Holger and all the crew at Telekom Electronic Beats x
Thanks for joining the Blind Test. Good Vibes!
Colin you were a top dj mate.
Love you, Colin. You did so much for me in the 90s with your music and mixes, seriously ❤
I love the editing. Damn ... sounds like I am repeating myself everytime EB posts. But hey .... just hats off ... really good editing.
Please continue 😂
@@ElectronicBeatsTV Yeah, the editing is on point, each & every time
And good sound design too
@@oliverkoehler785 it's amazing! The guest are almost talking to each other. Love it.
Legit my favourite series on RUclips right now. Something about watching people have fun while listening to bangers is so therapeutic. Keep it up TEB 👍
Glad you enjoy it!
@@ElectronicBeatsTV Have you tried to get Dave Clarke on this? His knowledge is faultless (I'm saying he might get 10/10) and he'd be a good laugh on it too...
its even more fun if youre new into techno :)
Crispy Bacon one of the best electronic tracks of all time imo. Never get tired of it. Fortunate enough to have seen Garnier play it many times and it always goes off
i second that. what a great track!
Great track but prefer Astral Dreams
@@cdub7619 also a great one!
@@DirtboxJams yes both excellent
Pitch it up about 3% and it's nuclear powered mega techno
on 3:40 when he said "it is too normal for Horrorist" i really felt that
Last time Benny Rodrigues took the win home, now Steve Rachmad
Holland represent :D
Netherlands = ❤
Its like sitting around with a bunch of mates, playing records and going "Hey, remember this?". Except your mates are techno legends!
Got two on the 1st needle drop. :D
Vapour Space and Vainqueur.
Fun story. Dave Clarke pleaded with me for my copy of Vainqueur when he played for us at our Less Stress night in York. This one we held in a 17th century church that was an old peoples day centre during the day and we hired it telling them it was a birthday party. He was amazed at the crew who, at the end of the night, had to make the place spotless and put all the carpets, tables and chairs back like we'd never been there and did it in super quick time. Anyway, It was already my anthem and i had to say "Sorry Dave, this is my baby. Not sure if i'll ever see this colour pressing again so i aint letting this one go".
Our claim to fame for that gig is that he dropped Red2 for the very 1st time anywhere and blew the fuckin roof off.
Another excellent selection of both tracks and people.
Lordy Dax J is beautiful ❤️
That call to prayer remix at The Orbit Festival in Tunisia..
Mr. Colin Dale you are a legend! You and Faver were all that needed to be said on the pirate airwaves and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Crispy Bacon was ahead of its time. still working...if the audience has earned it :)
killer tune ;) loved it back then and still loving it
I'd choose Astral Dreams though to trick them a bit more.
@@CenkAkyol yah crispy bacon is so much of a classic, that basically everybody that ever listened to techno immediately would recognise it. But I also didn't do that much techno back then, I was more into drum and bass in the late 90s
But it’s the Jeff Mills edit they are playing in the Video
Music is never ahead of it's time, it's in the moment.
HUGE respect to this channel which actually display LEGITIMATE techno, despite the huge saturation of questionable music
Everyone knows seawolf and I'm over here scratching my head. Must listen to more techno!
Vapourspace ... one of my alltime top 10 records ever ... so many memories and one of the best intros ... !!!
Gravitational Arch of Ten, SUPERB
Vaporspace eh.....fark yeah
I know that one, but cannot remember the name D:
@@GigioSantosGiovanni Legend says that Richie Hawtin couldn't read the name. Apparently it was originally meant to be Gravitational Arch of Io (Io is a moon of Jupiter), but he thought it said 10.
indeed
def my fav of this video
Stellar track selection, kudos to whoever was in charge of that!
🙏
Love this series
I love this series. I often play some episodes in the living room while cooking in the kitchen. It makes me feel like a bunch of cool DJs hanging out in my apartment.
😂
aussie techno hero claire morgan, much love to her always
First few notes of Drexciya....I smiled.
I could literally watch these for hours. PLEASE never stop making this series!!!
Those are 10 absolute classics...
That Drexciya tune is such a killer
Vapourspace - Gravitational Arch of 10 is one of the best techno tracks of all time!
Notice how the Aphex track melts everyone's smile and made them all feel tense and disturbed. hahahaha
First time I heard Jeff play seawolf. It was so overwhelming I threw up.
I had double drop 10 mins prior which may have contributed to my experience. Shouts out to the Japanese girl who looked after me.
You were definitely a keeper.
This made me laugh and longing to these nights
hahaha
@@stIIJJn Man that what I miss the most. A night out seeing one of the techno veterans kicking it is needed more than ever.
Fuck i miss these moments :(
Double drops and 10 minute come ups, you remind me of someone, ME! :D
(Seawolf is a fucking banger. My first time was Dave Clarke. Who they NEED to get on this show. He'll Get close to 10/10, i'm telling you...)
I'm not the biggest fan of this genre of music but am a massive fan of this series. Well done T.E.B./DJ's
Claire Morgan is just vibing :P
I remember rolling around a few warehouses to that Seawolf track 🌀2️⃣3️⃣

Good Job @ TeleKom E.B just to remember we are be a part of something strong im 55 now
Greetings from Belgium
Colin Dale! You were the university where I graduated in electronic music! I lived in London 94...95... Rising High Records...I still remember your show on Kiss Fm - Abstrakt Dance! Thanks!!! Cheer´s from Brazil!!!
I remember playing Lyot at a party in the early 90s and it shook an airconditioning vent from the roof, such was the bass rumble. And there starred the fascination for Maurizio.
My man jay denham aka Vice finally getting some recognition
#9 - Vapourspace - Gravitational Arc of 10. Monday morning, 10 a.m., Black Madonna closing Berghain in Panoramabar (which was a rare exception, as Berghain usually closes on the Berghain floor). She's already playing her final cooldown tracks, everybody is prepared to go home in the next 30 minutes, when that old guy, who was watching the dancefloor from the bar for some time, approached her, talked intensively to her for some minutes,. After he left the dj booth (we later found out that the guy was one of the club's owners), she was visibly confused for some moments, then frantically searching through her record bag and eventually - hard cut - started playing this record. Turned out that she was asked her to extend her set for additional 3 + hours, and she needed some moments to rearrange her set, pee and get the dancefloor engaged again. Unexpected, but totally killing record (that intro gave her all the time she needed) and a closing to remember (she had to be carried outside afterwards, as her feet were a bloody mess after 12 hours).
just for completeness sake: The track originally was named "Gravitational Arc Of IO", but Mr. Hawtin misread the "IO" as "10" and published it under that (wrong) name
So many top classics - 90s Techno still rocks 😎 all in my library
Instant backflash for thirdteen minutes, six seconds and tears of joy. Just like that.
*Flashback.
;)
Yes, me also.
I would kill to get to a party with this type of music!
This is exactly what i imagined what "early" techno would sound like!
show this to anyone that says all techno sounds the same... this series really shows the passion of these artists and how timeless music can be
One person knew "Gravitational Arch Of IO". Colin Dale. Tru headz represent.
Love this series! Keep em coming please. Some absolutely classic tracks there. A pleasure to listen
More to come for sure. 90s US House is next!
Isoprophlex always gets me smiling 😁
the first few notes of UR, you be smiling just knowing. ❤️
best Blind Test until now... Steve, always the hero!
Ihr dürft das auf keinen Fall aufgeben /einstampfen........ DAS IST SO COOL
i'm a simple man. a new blind test comes out, i drop everything i'm doing.
😀
Crispy Bacon is one of the meanest cuts ever pressed to vinyl. That record's a portal to another realm.
So good so many banging tracks
Thank you, EB. I learn about at least one classic techno tune every vid.
Also I command everyone to throw on Sterac's The Secret life of Machines. It's a wonderful record, I play my vinyl a lot.
So simple but so Genius Tracks!!! Love the 90s
One of my all-time favorite Techno tracks, from my favorite Techno producer: Laurent Garnier - Crispy Bacon,
Underground resistance seawolf!!!!♣️
Another classic, Big up Telekom Electronic Beats!
Love Jay Denham’s reactions
that Moonraker tune is the bomb, got it on 12"
This series brings me so much joy - which has been badly needed in 2020!
I can only vouch for Moon-Raker...
I play that in house sets to this day!
Big ups Foremost!!!
Here it is getting played in a crowd of a few hundred thousand in '98 ruclips.net/video/363ldrK8dpg/видео.html
AFX! Excellent songs as always. I knew most but not all! So now I must add to the collection. Fantastic series as always :) thanks to all involved
afx, aphex twin, etc, (and all the other many names he uses) has such a vast background of sounds and styles. I’m really excited to see this track here as I love his early more simple techno stuff. Weird and wonderful
These are amazing beats. I wish had kept up with it in the early 2000s. These were slightly before my time. Much love to the Techno community!
Oh god...This was another favourite actually....Great guests and tracks ❤❤❤❤
Wandered into a record shop in 1995 and brought the Black Sea 12" because it was under techno and I liked the cover, that was my system most of the time and sometimes I got lucky!
What a pick that was 🤙
so cool to see Dax J in this
Only knew Monsieur Garnier and Vapourspace tracks but Oh boy! that Vainqueur track freaking masterpiece Jesus Almighty! Loving this 90s techno series

Such a mint series. Especially atm, watching people enjoy these tracks somewhat satiating my rave cravings
Black Sea is such a superstar track ❤ I think its the first one I got straight from the start on these series 😂
Used to play all of these tracks back in the day
The one time in my life being a huge fan of Richard Bartz and Kurbel records has paid off. 😅

Amazing selection! 13 Min of pure joy! thanks
I don't explore techno much usually, but I always love all your track selections. So fresh! Thank you for a lovely series. Your guests are also pretty cool. :)
Afx at first time of course thank you very much
Yo these blind test videos are the shiznit. Keep this series going! Would love to see more house episodes too.
