Blind Test // 90s Detroit Techno - Episode 25 (Electronic Beats TV)

- Опубликовано: 3 июл 2024
- Marking a milestone twenty five episodes of the much loved Electronic Beats Blind Test series, we delve into the iconic sound of 90’s Detroit Techno and put our all star cast to the test with a selection of records from the archetypal Techno era.
Joining us for this latest sonic quiz is Detroit native DJ Rolando aka The Aztec Mystic. Detroit Underground DJ and producer Rebecca Goldberg aka 313 Acid Queen. Also stepping up is Superfreq head honcho Mr. C, co-founder of one of London’s most revered Techno clubs of the 90’s, the End. Rotterdam duo Black Cadmium also join the ride as well as longtime UK Techno stalwart Kirk Degiorgio and last but not least, Berlin based Tresor Resident MadAlba.
Please note that this video is not filmed in real time. It’s edited to create some tension so that you in front of the screen can guess as well. It doesn’t say anything about how fast the participants recognised the track etc.
All contestants receive one point for both artist and title correct, but only half a point if they can only guess the artist or the title.
Production: Sense Music & Media for Electronic Beats TV
Idea, Recordings and Track selection: Holger Wick

Waiting for the first one saying Drexciya "Wavejumper" is Electro not Techno.....
@cosy murx 🥱
RIP James Stinson
Hearing a song in certain situations can recontextualize it for you. Sometimes a house song heard in a techno mix or vice versa changes that experience for you and you think of the song in that context after that.
I believe when Drexciya made this, there was no such thing as “electro” genre being established in media. UR label was labeled as experimental concept or techno. Afrika Bambaataa or Cybotron is now called “electro” but at that time it was straight up called hip-hop with TB-808 usage.
@cosy murx no worries, I know it was a joke, just a bad one 😂
A bit like Darude "Sandstorm" ....
Thanks for having me, had a blast!! 😁🤪😁🙌
Thank you for participating. It was a big pleasure!
Got me when you said "come on, guys, you're killing me"... Then you just won 😄
Much respect from Belgium sir! 🤜🤛
Ro, the one and only!
Can we do this every week.
This was so fun! Thank you for inviting me. I am happy of course to represent Detroit in this category
Thank you for participating!
Rebecca ❤️
Greetings from Brazil.
🎉❤😮
i love seeing Detroit artists on here! :)
"this is the music of the future" - love it! ☺
jupiter jazz always brings a tear to my eye
Drexciya was just on another level
Whoever did the track selection for this episode: well done! ♥
Same as always.
@@ElectronicBeatsTV so modest
@@ElectronicBeatsTV Have you done the "rave" or early "hardcore" blind test?
@verapamil07 Not sure what you mean as we did no Rave or Early Hardcore Blindtest yet. If you mean the first Gabber / Hardcore Blind Test, yes.
@@ElectronicBeatsTV Hi there, I wanted to know if you plan to do early rave (e.g. Prodigy, Acen, 4Hero etc) also known as Hardcore in the UK?
This was so dope! Thank you for having us as well ✊🏿❤️✅️
Any time!
Great to see Mr. C on here and also would like to say how great the editing is on these videos, thank you!
❤️
Second 🤲🤝👐🤝🤲This

Mr c is a uk legend
All the ones who didn't get jupiter jazz......instant dismissal ! Hahah. Great stuff as usual 😊
I remember it from midnight club 3 😂
Rolando is a total G Knight Of The Jaguar still blowing up dancefloors 2022
Awesome, DJ Rolando appearance !!! 👌✌🤟👍Best ever Bind Test tunes....
Glad you like it!
@@ElectronicBeatsTV You invite Techno legends on your show; I love it :)
Yup
Mr. C in the house! We will alway have "The End" in our hearts you legend 💣🎹🚀
His X-Mix - 6 - The Electronic Storm, is probably my favorite mic cd.
His Plink Plonk label was huge too!
Has anyone got any Vera's?
@@pablowaxa yaaaaaas
Yo this is a rap to make your body jack
When they played Jupiter Jazz ohhhh the memories of me at my mom’s apartment in my bedroom discovering all of the newer Detroit Techno
Never heard of it before but wow what a good sound.
Still the best series on youtube, wish you could do one every month.
Week.
If you arrange enough participating DJs, no problem.
Why won’t they participate? Are they afraid of not knowing tracks, or has ego something to do with it?
This you have to ask the DJs. 80% are not even replying. Techno is definitely the worst genre for that.
@@ElectronicBeatsTV I appreciate the time and effort involved, thanks for the quality output.
Ain't gonna lie , my eyes welled up seeing Richard, remember dancing with him at Clink street RiP parties in London in 88'... Heavy duty Detroit tech an acid. Magical times i shall never forget. ❤🎶❤️xx
Hardest blind test: Drexciyan song titles 😂
All the series are extremely good, but 90s techno will always be on another level,
GOD TIER
88 - 90 is another level usa house belguim techno english rave
Guess I'll be checking Discogs out very soon then. You costing me a fortune in vinyl. 😂
Best episode! Detroit Techno is in a league of its own and electric music and music as a whole wouldn’t be the same without it. Big up!
Mr.C is a treasure!
Whats best, these tunes are around 30 years old and still better then 95% of newer productions.
Im glad and happy I was part of 90s when it was about music.
Typical 90s fanboy response:
@@notdon245 exctly!
Absolutely brilliant! Jupiter Jazz is such a mind blowing piece of music still, and Rolando - go Aztec Mystic! I love these quizzes! I got a few right to, even Drexciya.
The quality of the music coming out of Detroit is just insane. It must have been hard choosing only 10 tracks, and this is just scratching the surface... Really appreciate the diversity of the guests too. Another great episode!
none of the tracks i would've chosen were in here! And the selection was fantastic!
Suburban Knight - Art Of Stalking / The Worlds is the best Detroit techno 12” in my opinion
First time watching these. Got into mark farina style house in 2016 ish. So cool to see how groovy and soulful techno used to be. Wish more of todays techno had a touch of this.
yep, it had soul, melodies, musicality... too much today is just drum programming and automation.
Rolando is such a Boss, amazing DJ
I used to go to parties back in the 90's Detroit underground scene it was an amazing time, seeing Richie hawtin, John aquaviva, Frankie bones, atomic babies, Juan Atkins, Kevin saunderson, Christopher Lawrence, so many others
May be a blind test, but it definitely does not fall on deaf ears, Proud to be Detroit Born & Raised 💗🦾🔉
My favorite genre, can’t wait
Hell yea this should be good.
The futuristic sound of Detroit Techno is refreshing and only gets better with time
This series are just like a little beam of light that warms my heart every single time I watch it. Thank you, EB!
Well done Mr. Rolando!
And great to see Mr C in here.
What a really nice bunch of folk. Really representing our love for music. V proud.
Rediscovering this epic episode. Fantastic selection as always!
90’s Detroit techno = fantastic period of my life (my 20’s): Buying records every week, discovering and enjoying the music revolution, kudos to all the teachers DJ who shared their passion!
Every Saturday I was opening my music culture.
THANKS !! 🎉
Best series. I know it's difficult to make these happen but they are so awesome. Well done everyone.
Best Era for Techno in my opinion.
Spot on 👍
I love this kind of techno, the detroit one. I always asked myself which one of all techno genres was my favourite but I never could answer to that question. Now, I got it. How I would like to go to a rave/party and dance this kind of music for many hours...
wish i could found a club that paid this type of music entirely.
Detroit - so timeless.
Education at its finest, thanks as usual TEB
You can end the series now. That's it. It just doesn't get better than that.
# 2 always make me happy - Jupiter Jazz
These episodes are always so much fun. Thanks for #25.
Glad you enjoy it!
Paperclip People Throw has so much house flavouring...Slam remix is superb!
OMG, I always like these blind tests so much but this one is really top of the bill! Those faces when the bass sounds or freaky elements are hitting them: priceless!! Especially so much fun to see Mr. C enjoying this!
Veterans inc..Legend overload,mr c in the house..,watching in ireland🇮🇪🇮🇪.
Please do a UK Acid House; Mr C would kill it
Paperclip people - Throw is one of the best tracks ever made!
First of all, thanks for sharing this educational video about the roots of electronic music. Secondly, I need to express the deepest feelings I have with this music. I feel even though it is called Detroit Techno, it encompasses all genres in the most beautiful way. So heavenly yet so rooted. So future yet so past. And finally, I usually have this feeling this is the highest level you can get with electronic music. Even though, I explore the whole musical spectrum as a music listener, dj and producer, this is the ONE that gives me most goosebumps. 🙏
Good to see Rolando and Mr C. Nice selection of well known tunes from Detroit.
Mr. C, in the house :D I reckon he might come out on top, although some stiff competition in there for this one. Go, Richard!! :D
Robert Hood (and floorplan) is my favourite producer, no contest. I've got over 50 of his tracks, and still discover a "new" one (like this track here, I remember, but don't have,) occasionally. He's ridiculously good, and prolific!
and some of us have over 50 on vinyl ;)
@@mollyoko nice! 🙂
I have quite a few on vinyl! 😉
first time i've had half of them. used to love techno nights at The End
I started DJing in 1997 at the age of 16 and proceeded to check out of life and DJing by 2007! It's a miracle I'm still here and am rediscovering my past. Thanks for this video and maybe it's time I pull my 4 1200's and vinyl out of storage!! Rebecca...you're a pleasant surprise...would love to meet you someday!!😉
Just lovely, really amazing series.
These are so much Fun to watch ! TY
Always happy for new episode!
Clearly one of the best episodes. Back to the source!
I love this show. Keep em coming!
Dj Rolando
Thank you TEB, excellent as always!
Another fantastic episode. Every track is a classic.
Great addition to the series.
I love this series.
I love your blind test series! Please never stop doing this!
What a fantastic episode! This is now the only show I watch!
1st time hearing Jupiter Jazz & Warning was from the Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition PS 2 game
Such a great series .. I love it when Blind Test comes out
Thanks guys.. what a great selection and what an awesome panel!❤❤❤
These videos are always fascinating! I remember more than I remember! Thank you Telekom!
Finally! Another episode!!
Da bekommt man sofort Lust die Clubnights der 90er zu hören !
Brilliant work thanks!
What a great way to create an archive of music. Thanks TEB!
Great guest's and some absolutely classic tracks 👌👍
never stop doing these
Such strong names representing Detroit. Great series as usual. Don't stop doing it.
Love these videos, and learning a lot from them. It's fun. Very nice. Keep 'em coming. Great format.
Another great addition to the series, thank you!
Shoutout to whoever does the sound mix on these, they always have a heap of punch! 👊
Love it!
So hope you do more...listening to these blind tests literally has opened up a whole world of music to me !
TEB is my favourite YT channel and i've been laying low for a while. Im so happy to realise there's a whole load of new released of their blind tests :DDD
What an amazing video. I love it.
Totally LOVE these brilliant blind tests, thank you for the choice of the tracks and legendary guests! ❤😊
Great fun episode - thanks....😉
Thanks. Fantastic
I use to hear Jupiter jazz on midnight club 3
Opened RUclips to see a new Blind Test video and declared out loud that "today will be a good day!".
The track selection is so good, amazing job.
This was amazing! Knew so many of them, some from the first two beats. Aah, I love musical memory.
next excellent episode, love it like always. owning some of the records, every episode let grow my discogs wantlist.
Another great Blind Test, another bunch of tracks to find and buy
Always learning new old awesome tracks.
Glad to hear that!
Amazing episode, you guys are always the best! 10 beautiful tracks all in all, but round 4 got me screaming by the first kick
And yet another 15 mins of fun, memories and great music.... Recognized 8/10... guessed right 3/10 LOL
Love this series.
I knew from the get go " Jupiter Jazz" favorite of all time
Awesome tracks and enjoy these video's❤
Love it. Proper nostalgia! Only got four though!
I would love to hear Rolando's stories of the 90's Pennington more.
I still find Pennington's take on detroit music the most inspiring and maybe the most singular of the old days.
I would say that I was quite a big fan of Detroit in the 90s. I had heard most of these tracks and have them on mixes, comps, albums. Big difference between recognising a track/knowing you have it and being able to name the artist and track title! Respect!
All great tunes, especially 2 through to 7.
this series 🤩
Music is beautiful. Thank you! Not surprised that Dj Rolando won)
