Berserk is a great read. I enjoyed the anime as well. Both versions. Manga/anime is another great world to dive in. Let's kick it! Some recommendations would be "fireforce/Dragon Ball/Kaiju #8/ Full Metal Alchemist/💥Attack on Titan/My Hero Acadamia/ and Solo Leveling. The animes bring it to life as well. Watch Demon Slayer. Sooo good. Goodluck.

honestly i went from reading and collecting manga to starting to collect to some comic omnibus, and id never read comics before that point like 5 months ago, and im gonna be dead honest here, was SUPER underwhelmed by comics after reading manga for the last 5-6 years, i started with immortal hulk. maybe not a great entry point but ive seen the hulk movies i know a decent amount of hulk lore, his backstory etc. honestly. immortal hulk got good reviews from what ive seen, i thought it was at BEST a 7/10 it was really long winded for no reason i mean al ewing just mumbled on about 2 people in the mirror for half the omni, really short lived fights that weren't satisfying, im looking at the Iowa fight, hulk vs avengers. honestly really just dragged on for 50+ issues when i knew how it would end on like issue 15. art was really shotty throughout the entire omni. so hulk maybe not for me.
i didnt want to quit there and got Batman by jeph loeb and tim sale the omnibus. and i REALLY liked that one. the story was engrossing the mystery was truly for me a mystery until it was revealed, and the art was really well done, fights were entertaining, though still missing that drawn out choreography that i really enjoy in manga.
so all in all comics are fun for me, but personally ive connected and really loved more manga series than comics. i feel comics for me i have to really SEARCH AND SEARCH to find one that will be a 8/10 for me. manga almost every one that has a cool cover ive read and loved it to death. and the art in manga vs comics?, i cant even begin to explain how much more i enjoy mangas art than comics. its just so much more eye catching and interesting to look at compared to comics.
but that hasnt deterred me from collecting omnis. im still picking up batman omnis. and i have all 4 of the aliens omnibus and predator. comics for me are a fun palette cleanser from manga when i start to get dried out from reading manga day after day.

Some brilliant feedback here Kawaiihaki, really appreciate you sharing this. I understand where you are coming from. If you get the opportunity, I would recommend the Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky Omnibus Vol1. which is releasing in July 2024, every issue I read of this was an absolute banger, epic build up, incredible artwork, killer fight scenes. Sounds like I have a lot to look forward to in the world of manga.

@@comiccasper3053 ooo i havent been recommended the chip zdarsky daredevil before its always Bendis. is chips a good starting point for someone new to daredevil as a whole?, definitely will add it my haul list if so!

    • @comiccasper3053
      @comiccasper3053  2 месяца назад +1

For me the Chips run was an introduction into Daredevil, it was easy enough to follow, but there were moments where I wasn't too familiar with certain characters, and the history behind them. I keep hearing the Bendis run is brilliant, so I will definitely buy that one and read through it too, followed by the Brubaker run and the Soule run. Daredevil has had some epic stories in the last 2 decades.

I'm in the same boat as you! I went from reading mangas till dec of last year but I was completely blown away instead, I've sold off a chunk of my manga collection to make space to grow my comics.
I started of reading y the last man, kill or be killed, the preacher which are works of art compared to anything I've read in manga. Maybe you should check out more vertigo or indie creator owned titles, they are more varied in storytelling and i find more similar to manga story lines.

nope berserk and a few other classics aka akira breaks the trend. i find manga dialogue can be quite unnecessarily wordy and do not flow as smooth as western comics maybe cos of translation and culture difference. try reading a rom com and get through a buncha filler word like umm, ahh that take up half the sentences.
i recently stated reading western comics and i find it s tier! i still read manga but comics especially creator owned or independent stuff so much more engaging. colors makes a huge difference in immersion, making characters stand apart and easier to track action and dialogue. and gotta love the over the top deluxe versions of collected editions.
make a video on why comics are better than manga! i will give you further points...

    • @NakedBreedBand
      @NakedBreedBand Месяц назад +1

I recently migrated from manga to western comics (US Indie, European, Graphic Novels). I'm in my 40s and got into manga only a couple years ago with a hankering to read the classic Akira movie in its full manga format. From there I fell into a rabbit hole of classic and modern manga
      - Akira
      - Maison Ikokku
      - Fullmetal Alchemist
      - Attack on Titan
      - Dorohedoro
      - Emma
      - I am a Hero
      - Ooku: The Inner Chambers
      - The Ghost And The Lady
      - Eagle: The Making of an Asian-American President
      - Osamu Tezuka
      - Shigeru Mizuki
      - Jiro Tanaguchi
      - Naoki Urusawa
      - Shuzo Oshimi
      - Junji Ito/Kazuo Umezz
I'm looking for new stories to explore which I predominantly got it from tv shows like Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Madmen, Sopranos, Walking Dead, Attack On Titan. But I find that my patience is running thin getting into movies/series/anime due to it's slower pacing and it's tendency to pad out it's source material if it's an adaptation.
My first inkling to try out some western comics was wanting to read the source for The Walking Dead, from there I fell into the rabbit hole of non superhero style comics, though some exceptions have been made due to writers involved. From what I've read here are the similarities between manga and comic authors.
      - Naoki Urusawa = Brian K Vaughan/Robert Kirkman - great world building, character developments and has that just one more chapter addictive bingability
      - Osamu Tezuka/Shigeru Mizuki = EC comics/Prince Valiant/Duck comics - Not much similiarities but these scratches my itch for reading something old to give a glimpse from another era.
      - Shonen Manga = Something is Killing the Children - SiKtC just gives me shonen vibes(powered protaganist fighting monsters) with a much more darker and grittier setting . Feels grounded with real world issues and makes the premise more believable.
      - The Preacher = Stands alone as the greatest book ever created by men and should replace the holy texts of religions to make the world a better place thanks.
      - dialogues in western comics are much better. It's a heavier read but sentences flow much more naturally and there's a lot more depth to character motivations.
      - color really helps clear up action sequences and differentiates character more. And just adds another layer of immersion.
      - I feel comics wraps up it's endings much more satisfyingly than manga, which tends to start strong, run for too long and wimper out towards the end. Sure comics have these issues to but I feel it doesn't run as long and tighter dialogue and color helps you get through this pacing issues better.
      - better collectible, nothing seems to be out of print. With the choice of collecting in singles, TPB or collected editions you could always peace meal a complete run with whatever's in print to read physically according to your budget. Manga series outside of evergreen ones usually have one edition, tend not to stay in print for too long after it's initial run and you'll have to take your chance on scalper prices.

I love the passion and constructive criticism within your comments NBB, also given me some additional manga recommendations which I greatly appreciate. It is pretty silly of me to attempt a generalisation at a medium based on a single title, but I'll be pretty keen to check out more manga, and maybe when I'm a little more experienced in manga I could do a comparrison video down the track between manga and western comics. Happy to hear you made the leap to try out western comics, The Walking Dead is such an awesome way to do it, I'm yet to finish reading that series. There's no doubt the independent publishers have a sea of absolute gems. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

@@comiccasper3053 You're welcomed! Love your vids I've just subscribed. All kidding aside I do appreciate both art forms. I look forward to the comparison vid.
I saw a sea of manga are better than comic vids during the manga boom during covid, which did tilt my bias to avoid comics then. Just think there needs to be a counter narrative to that argument and would love to watch that video cos no one seems to have made that argument.
From your vids you're so articulate I think you would make a compelling take on this topic! anyways thanks for the reply and keep up the great content!
