You really have to appreciate what Jay does for auto enthusiasts. He covers new, old, racing, sports and we get to see things with such details. And with all that wealth and connections, he is still a humble guy giving all the credits to people who deserve them.
Yeah i really like it myself MetalJesusRocks it's nice to see he's a proper petrol head and is into F1, Mclaren and how tracks are made etc. I hope the game collection is still growing and you can still walk around your game room!
Yeah he is. Rare for someone as famous as Jay. His respect for the history of engineering and preserving these things for future generations is an example that more wealthy people should follow. Thanks Jay!
Wow Jay!!! Thank you. That was awesome! You don't see allot of passing in F1 so it can get kinda boring but since I was five years old (back in the Jackie Stewart days) I have been fascinated with their cars.
I always learn so much by watching Jay. He just continues to give folks with curious minds that inside glimpse into the actual workings of just fascinating topics that we'd have no other way of learning about. Of course, when it's presented by our favorite "Gentleman Mechanic", it's always so fun to listen to his insightful yet basic questions. Somebody give that guy a raise. -Best wishes, Brendan
Jay, Epic episode. Your best so far, in my opinion. It's hard to gauge the speed of F1 unless you compare it to something relevant, like a sports car. Not sure if you are using someone new for your editing and cinematography, but they do a stellar job. Thanks for sharing for those of us who have not been able to make it to the track.
let me give you a comparation lol , bugatti veyron SS weight, around 2000 kg power 1200 bhp, F1 car, wight 642 kg, power 950 bhp ( power to weight ratio almost twice the veyron ), let me put it this way, an F1 car has to go from 0 to 100mph to 0 again in 5seconds or less
Its so obvious how Jay is enjoying the F1 car a lot. He even wants to have those small canisters for the oil samples. Its a great experience indeed even for a guy who owns a lot of exotic cars. Great video.
An for me... When I see a race... I want a race with "Beating the other guys" as top priority... Which is mainly why I don't like F1... I just can't really comprehend a race where passing isn't top priority... Look I get the speed... But it's a RACE... I just like the track...
Yes, that's correct. Because that's 15 laps after the race ended and you'd be pretty damn un-informed to not know the winner by then. NASCAR, isn't that the one where you suffer 290 laps of "maybe" cautions and then sit tight for the last 10 laps where it actually matters if someone overtakes?
David Jonsson Only if it's a bad race... What the hell do you mean only 65 laps? I don't care HOW long the goddamn track is... You can't do 200 miles in only 65 laps... And I KNOW F1 races do at LEAST 150 miles per race... What the hell kind of professional racing program wouldn't...? Oh yes... Because it ONLY takes 10 laps to pass an entire field of 43 cars going 3 wide and DON'T want to go strait... Do you think Nascar makes their tracks to left by CHOICE? The drivers are dealing with 2000lb DRAGONS who do NOT want to go strait with NO on board computers or ANY fancy gadgets... No buddy... EVERY lap counts in NASCAR...
very cool. Jay has been a loyal customer to Mclaren, even when they were in that initial phase where no one. wanted one cause it was a huge risk. Jay took that chance! and now Mclarenstarted to repay him, with a drive/ VIP treatment at texas B4 the F1 race. the P1 looks Fucking amazing. cant wait to see it on Top gear !!
Its funny how an actual super car looks so slow, almost motionless next to an F1 car. This was a great episode, Jay, the American public deserves to know more about F1, please do more like these, but this time around, you drive the F1 car :)
The impressive thing about the people involved in this kind of enterprise is there are no slackers. They have all proved their metal and gained their respect through work, dedication, self discipline, and character. When Jay was driving I was reminded of teaching my kids how to drive on mountain roads while watching the expression on the instructors face. Jay must be a damn good driver on his own account as Im sure I would have blown it handling a car like that. Sure not for the faint of heart.
For sure one of the BEST episodes. My heart was racing, just from watching. This would be really fun, if they let you take enough laps to really memorize the track.
What is truly amazing? Jay's love for the sport, the amount of his personal time, energy and of course money he is willing to put out to represent the racing sport. He shows the youth of America that they to can have fun without the drugs or street racing. A job will done Jay.
Awesome that we have this now in the US and even better that it is here ins Austin! My second year attending the COTA F1 races and just love the whine of those engines and the adrenaline of the event!
Best Day Ever... Jay, I have never seen you so excited. This day has got to go down as one of the highlights of your life. Thank You so much for sharing with us and allowing us to ride along. Epic episode.
F1 has been my lifetime passion and I am so glad to see the US offering such an amazing venue. I really hope it takes off in the US and that they love it as much as we do. It is just a pity we are losing that amazing noise next year (2014).
Hedley Thorne Personally I think the extra torque will add to the racing, adjustable boost will add another element to the racing just like it used to be. Personally I prefer a tuned n/a car to drive, I have owned both a sprint tuned n/a and a high hp turbo mr2 and I'd take the tuned n/a engine every time, a non turbo car is easier to drive on the limit. imo 2014 will be a good shake up and could produce a great year with a lot of engine failures that could knock redbull off of their perch. ;)
Won't take off in the US. Never has. Nobody can relate to the cars, nor a bunch of guys who names nobody can pronounce. On top of that you can't see the track. Waste of time. Go watch NASCAR instead.
What a great episode Jay. Growing up and watching you on late night was okay but as a grown man now, this is the stuff of legends! Really excited to see where this series takes you and your team!
Thank you Jay... Truly a great day watching you put a $500.00 helmet on a .10 head was amazing and you did fantastic on the track..... Thank you for sharing :-)
Great episode Jay. I wish we had more F1 tracks in the US instead of golf courses and billion dollar football stadiums. Just think how exciting it would be to have an F1 track intown, as close as our football and baseball stadiums typically are.
F1 used to race at Watkins Glen, Long Beach, at Indianapolis, at Phoenix Street circuit, at Detroit Street circuit and even at Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas.
Jay, I love this videos you are doing about cars, etc. Loved the one about the electric 360 motorcycle but can't find it! That was awesome! Thank you!!!
You can see Jay while sitting in the car and revving the engine he is blown away...MAN OF THE PEOPLE! So cool of Jay to bring us average car nuts into the world we only dream about and ask the questions us car nuts would ask.
very cool video, Mr Leno! i saw the f1 race last month and it was incredible…what a beautiful facility and i too am happy to have this track in the US. you represent us well, thanks! i was in a subaru STi on a track once and got passed by a RedBull Porsche .. similar "am i sitting still?" moment although not as cool as your experience! keep the great videos coming! matt
Jay I love the f1 youtube. one of the best uploads..... I know you have been to Barbers track and museum in birmingham alabama I wish you would consider coming to the rolex race next year it's one of best track's in the world and I wish you could highlight it. ...... And have me as your side kick... But for real it's the best track. Thanks keep it up. Big fan!
What makes these shows so enjoyable is Jay Leno's passion and knowledge of automobiles.
And that he'll ask the questions that we are thinking but might be afraid to ask, like the magnet on the drain plug question.
I always felt like it was the show girls.
You really have to appreciate what Jay does for auto enthusiasts. He covers new, old, racing, sports and we get to see things with such details. And with all that wealth and connections, he is still a humble guy giving all the credits to people who deserve them.
Jay Leno's Garage is just the best. One of my favorite channels,
Yeah i really like it myself MetalJesusRocks it's nice to see he's a proper petrol head and is into F1, Mclaren and how tracks are made etc. I hope the game collection is still growing and you can still walk around your game room!
He really is just one cool down to earth guy.
Yeah he is. Rare for someone as famous as Jay. His respect for the history of engineering and preserving these things for future generations is an example that more wealthy people should follow. Thanks Jay!
I seem to recall he started manufacturing Packard heads for sale to people who need one. That takes dedication and lots of MONEY.
wow, they peeled jay out of his wrangler denim shirt !
lol. I was thinking the same thing.
Actually, the correct term is 'anorak'.
Anorak is just a fancy word for parka. Has nothing to do with denim jean jackets or shirts, lol.
Wow Jay!!! Thank you. That was awesome! You don't see allot of passing in F1 so it can get kinda boring but since I was five years old (back in the Jackie Stewart days) I have been fascinated with their cars.

+1 on Jay putting together a F1 team... I still can't believe no one stepped up after HRT bailed......
Jay,

For me, the technical details of Formula 1 are far more interesting than the racing.
An for me... When I see a race... I want a race with "Beating the other guys" as top priority...
Which is mainly why I don't like F1... I just can't really comprehend a race where passing isn't top priority... Look I get the speed... But it's a RACE...
I just like the track...
Videogeek95 Have you watched a F1 race in the last 10 years? The racing in 2014 has been amazing.
David Jonsson Let me think... F1... Isn't that where you already know the winner 80 laps in? At which point you change the channel because boring?
Yes, that's correct. Because that's 15 laps after the race ended and you'd be pretty damn un-informed to not know the winner by then.
NASCAR, isn't that the one where you suffer 290 laps of "maybe" cautions and then sit tight for the last 10 laps where it actually matters if someone overtakes?

Thanks Mr. Jay Leno. i really enjoy your show.
Why is it Jay always gets to have all the fun!
Its funny how an actual super car looks so slow, almost motionless next to an F1 car.
This was a great episode, Jay, the American public deserves to know more about F1, please do more like these, but this time around, you drive the F1 car :)
I live in Austin and even though I may never attend F1, now at least I get a more realistic idea of what it is all about....Thanks Jay!!!
Congratulations to Oliver Turvey for winning Le Mans. Seriously good performance for only your second 24 hours of Le Mans appearance.
OK, that settles it, I'm subscribing to Jay Leno's Garage.
Click on 'Videos' and start from the beginning. There's lots to see.
best episode imo...♥ racing and gettin a ground level view of the track

I love the way Jay is so humble about his driving ability. Such a down-to-earth guy.
he's met so many real racing drivers doing their thing im sure its hard not to be humbled.
For sure one of the BEST episodes. My heart was racing, just from watching. This would be really fun, if they let you take enough laps to really memorize the track.
Loved it, thanks for uploading.
Such a badass video, loved every second. I love Austin, Texas!
This must be one of the best channels on youtube.
Jay, congratulations! Very good stuff, interesting, original, informative and entertaining ... always with a smile.
What is truly amazing? Jay's love for the sport, the amount of his personal time, energy and of course money he is willing to put out to represent the racing sport. He shows the youth of America that they to can have fun without the drugs or street racing. A job will done Jay.

Great video Jay,thanks for taking us with you, thats as close as I will ever get to it. Just fantastic man...I hope to be reincarnated as Jay Leno!
Knowing the track is the key to this and an instructor that is willing to teach/show what to do.
McLaren rolled out the red carpet for Jay here
I'm not a car racing fan anymore but what a great video !! Jay rules !! Leno rocks !!
this is quite possibly the best advertisement for Mclaren there has ever been
What a lucky guy you are, Jay Leno. Thanks for bringing this to us. And aspects of F1 we don't normally see.
Love Jay Leno's garage.
i did a motorcycle track day here awhile back. amazing track.
cant wait for this sunday. ill be sitting on T1 watching these guys scream by.
Best Day Ever... Jay, I have never seen you so excited. This day has got to go down as one of the highlights of your life. Thank You so much for sharing with us and allowing us to ride along. Epic episode.

Remember that back in the turbo days they were running 1.5 4 cylinder lumps
Yes, that was great racing! A lot different to the engines next year though. The racing should be good though, we just lose the screaming noise.
Hedley Thorne Personally I think the extra torque will add to the racing, adjustable boost will add another element to the racing just like it used to be.
Personally I prefer a tuned n/a car to drive, I have owned both a sprint tuned n/a and a high hp turbo mr2 and I'd take the tuned n/a engine every time, a non turbo car is easier to drive on the limit. imo 2014 will be a good shake up and could produce a great year with a lot of engine failures that could knock redbull off of their perch. ;)
Agree. The racing will be interesting. However the trackside noise won't.
Won't take off in the US. Never has. Nobody can relate to the cars, nor a bunch of guys who names nobody can pronounce. On top of that you can't see the track. Waste of time. Go watch NASCAR instead.
Excellent coverage of the scenes behind F1 preparations and of the circuit! Thank you Jay!
The sounds of those pre 2014 cars is still breathtaking!!
Couldn't agree more. The 2014 cars just sound like a robots fart
What a great episode Jay. Growing up and watching you on late night was okay but as a grown man now, this is the stuff of legends! Really excited to see where this series takes you and your team!

Great episode Jay. I wish we had more F1 tracks in the US instead of golf courses and billion dollar football stadiums. Just think how exciting it would be to have an F1 track intown, as close as our football and baseball stadiums typically are.
There were some mixed feelings about this track here in Austin but it's been a great benefit since it opened and most are now happy it's here.
F1 used to race at Watkins Glen, Long Beach, at Indianapolis, at Phoenix Street circuit, at Detroit Street circuit and even at Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas.
