It was refreshing to see you out of the shop and therefore out of the shop denim. I feel like it shows people that you respect them and more importantly care about them to look good when invited over. It shows tremendous good form and diplomacy on Jay's part to dress nicely especially as a representative of the United States in Britain. Well Done Sir Jay Leno of Garage.
- Imagine this car with somebody who knows what they're doin' Jay Leno sir, I am damn sure you know exactly what you're doing and yet you are so humble about it. Much respect.
"Imagine this car in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing!" La Fortuna cuts in Then the camera cuts to the Stig walking onto the track. I was hoping for that.
My short list of Thank You's for this Amazing machine: Thank you McLaren for building this pinnacle! Thank you for Jay driving it somewhere other than Abu Dabi!! (In Stig country no less!) Thank you McLaren for not knackering the blow-off valve noise!
What a beautiful time to be alive. Cars have truly made a step into the 21st century. Last time i truly felt this way about cars was the first time i saw the Enzo.
It's amazing to think that Jay Leno's mere presence and patronage has in all likelihood probably INCREASED McLaren's standing and value more than anything else. That thought is simply mind blowing.
***** it hasn't, before the P1 was announced it was probably the SLS AMG. Why not? Does a dream have to be a big one? Does it have to have been all your life? A dream job is something you think of your entire life, a dream partner but I have the latter, all I need is my dream job and this beautiful machine.
Never really watched Jay Leno (but must admit I had it in my head he was big headed and brash). But how wrong could I have been.......been watching a few of these videos and what a humble and grounded person he truly is. Nice guy with a nice "garage".
The McLaren Technology Centre is the headquarters of the McLaren Group, located in Woking, Surrey, England. It is often called a hospital for motor cars such is the expertise and world class knowledge in the respected field. The McLaren P1 optimises everything that is great about Great Britain; we are world-beaters and long may it continue.
Saturday morning May 3rd, 9:30ish in the morning, Driving down the road going to go get breakfast with my buddy and something amazing and yellow catches my eye on my left side, I see Jay at the gas station.. cutting over 2 lanes and 2 lanes of on coming traffic to pull into the gas station to witness Jay Leno and this amazing P1, SPEECHLESS!!!! this car is so beautiful! at first we didnt even know what we were looking at... I was honored to be 3 feet away from this thing... Love you Jay! keep doing what you do.. and see you at the gas station soon! (no bumper haha..)
This is by far the most impressive, exciting, and awe inspiring supercar that's been produced in the 21st century. It seemed that emission restrictions and batteries were looking to put the last nail in the coffin of the true supercar, but then McLaren, once again, created a car that will change the automotive world forever.
Did anyone else try to make up their own version of Clarkson doing a commentary as Leno drove around Dunsfold? " Here's the Follow-Through - did you lift here? you almost HAVE to with all that powaaaahh behind your chin - coming up on the Second-To-Last corner, looking very tidy and cutting it nicely; now 'round Gambon, no drama at all and ACROSS THE LINE!" *cheers and applause* "So, Jay Leno, where do you think you've come?"
I've been a huge fan of McLaren. That goes back to the 70s Formula One days. When they came out with the F1 I was blown away. It took the supercar to a whole new level. And now with the P1. I am blown away again. Because they took the to a whole new level. When will this madness end? LOL I can't wait to see what they come up with five years down the road. We are in an incredible time for car builders. We are seeing cars being built with 500 hp as if it was nothing out of the ordinary. This was unheard of. 10 years ago. And now car manufacturers from the American made Mustangs all the way up to McLaren and Koenigsegg. I put Koenigsegg there because of their attention to detail and incredible engineering involved in building these one off hyper cars. Including the Koenigsegg one to 1, which is truly a hyper car, along with the McLaren P1.
I love Jay.. He's a genuine petrolhead.. He's not just interested in the latest and greatest, all cars..and bikes interest him. As for the P1.. I'm not still sold on the looks, particularly the rear, but..what a machine!! I thought my TVR 420 SEAC (5L V8 fitted) was quick, but this......another planet!!
I agree. Incredibly bold words but coming from someone who drives as many cars as Leno does...I believe it. And a review like that is just astonishing. Looks like there may be a new king of supercars, I thought the Agera R would take that trophy but now Im not sure.
***** I think Koenigsegg could definitely make a hybrid if they cared to considering the level of engineering in the Agera R is lightyears beyond what most companies are doing. And considering they are the only ones in the world working out a successful camless drive innovation is no stranger to them. Koenigsegg made it clear he doesnt think the internal combustion engine is dead, he is not done advancing with it and thats why he doesnt make a hybrid.
***** You keep riding on the assumption that just because they are a small company that they cannot build cars as the top euro dogs can. You said like you're very educated on the subject.
I remember watching this years ago thinking that they used the rear light from the 12C and just inserted it into the rear vent of the P1 instead of the lightstrip it has. And it still looked beautiful and amazing
Marcus Coster it's an Airbus H130 B4 Corporate EJR. It's owned by McLaren, to use for customers and clients. Did you happen to check out the tag? _(registration)_
This particular one isn't his. In fact it's not a P1 at all. It's actually called the XP7. McLaren said it's the closest concept to the production car. But recently Jay had his P1 delivered in the same colour. And all P1 are left hand drive
***** Yeah that is pretty strange in my opinion. You would think a British built car would all be RHD and customers in other countries would have to request to change it if they want.
Jason Nyers Presumably McLaren built it for the majority of customers: LHD. There's nothing to stop you from driving an LHD car in the UK at least. Plus it allows McLaren to focus on a single design without having to make any technical compromises when moving the parts from one side of the car to the other, no doubt they've gone to great length to position all the parts in a particular spot for weight distribution amongst other things.
Jason Byers the P1 comes in right-hand drive or left hand drive, I don't really know what he's talking about. The car that Harry was driving last summer was right hand drive. The car that carfection test drove was also right hand drive. I think you are correct in that, there is no usual side, being an international car, but I would imagine that the home market is pretty huge.
Supercar Fan621 it's also Jay Leno. And he's driving a car. He also flew in a helicopter. And he went to the McLaren factory. And spoke to some management Executives. There, that's my bit of running commentary added to yours.
For a company that began building cars just a few years ago McLaren is doing a great job....so impressive! You get the impression that McLaren would be way ahead of the competition had they began manufacturing cars a very long time ago. It is really amazing what this company is doing! And you can tell they take pride in what they do just by looking at their building facility.
Frikgeek Dude, I was referring to the time when McLaren began building cars completely on its own. The McLaren F1 which you are referring to was not built completely by the company. They received help from BMW, who built the engine and tuned the car. The MP4-12C was actually the very first sportscar for the road that McLaren built completely on their own. But even if you were to add the F1 as a car built completely by McLaren, 21 years ago is still no comparison to a company like Ferrari who has been building cars way longer.
pretty sure i saw an interview where James May said himself that he was also the stig at one point. but he had been replaced. if i remember right it was around season 21 or something but not on Top Gear
so great to vicariously ride in this car. no normal income person will ever have a chance at even a Porsche Cayman, let alone a super hyper car, but we can dream. Love ya J.
People who buy these cars don't care about the price or 'bang for buck'. We are talking about a 0.000001% segment of the world population. They'll build a castle on the moon if they feel like it.
darkzerk7 you guys can ignore my point all you want but the bottom line is if a car company builds a car with X amount of performance and charged X price and then builds a car with 2X amount of performance and charged 5X the price there is a discrepancy with bang for buck. Not everyone buys super cars frivolously, some people do actually care about the numbers. only people who have never owned or known anyone who did own a car of this caliber would think otherwise.
***** the only thing i dont get why some poor souls cant make a statement without feeble attempts to insult people. im not so concerned with your opinion or your inability to render a meaningful thought other than to swear and show your clearly far more developed sense of righteousness. you dont agree with my statement ok cool, now off to your cave troll.
Eric Stevens so you think people who buy cars, are *ONLY* buying brake horsepower? You don't think they're buying the car, or what it looks like, or the brand, or how beautiful it is, or whether it's a sports car, or a tourer, or GT, or a luxury Sedan, or how comfortable it is, or what it makes you feel like when you're driving it, or how classical the car is, or how unique it is, or what it sounds like, or the driving experience.. Seriously, you buy a car for its sole, not because it's got 135 brake horsepower. The Jaguar E-Type, or XK120, or Lamborghini Miura, or Jensen Interceptor comma or Ferrari 250 GTO.. has got less than 300 brake horsepower, but is worth way more than some gummy crap high brake horsepower sedans or wannabe sports cars from Japan with plastic trim. You buy a car because it is special. You buy a car because it makes you feel special. You don't buy a car because it's got a few more horsepower.
Awesome car. What I love about Jays Garage show is he drives all of his cars. They are not just garage queens and he almost always does a burnout at the end so he's not afraid to lean on them. :-)
Rohit Sawlani you do release that the Porsche hit a gas line.. that's what caused the serious amount of damage. Look at photos of where the car hit before the crash and you can see the gas line. this does not mean the Porsche Carrera GT is a bad car or not meant for driving on roads, take any car and crash into a gas line I don't think it will hold up to well
KirkSH52 well, you have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy watching his channel. Usually the only people who watch it, are people who love cars and bikes and looking at his collection. He doesn't have to be funny, because he's not trying to be. He's just presenting information about the cars that he drives. It just happens to be very passionate, and very good at presenting each episode. I guess if you don't get it, then don't watch any of the episodes, because if you're not into cars there's no point. My wife doesn't get it either, and doesn't watch any of them, because she thinks cars are boring. Each to his own I guess.
Really enjoy "That Look" on Jay's face while he drives that Yellow Lightning. That McClarin is a machine that is a step above…. anything. Thanks for the videos , Jay. Gary
I wasnt to keen when i first saw pictures, but the moment you see the P1 in black it really is a stunning car, nice little touches of the F1 in there as well.
People saying he doesnt deserve this car because he doesnt talk about it? If i had the chance to drive this i would be so focused on the car i wouldnt give a crap about speaking about it. Him and the car are one in this video.
You have to admit a 6:57 round the ring combined with a 30+ km/liter fuel consumption, is impressive and gives the supercar the right to exist. They are all about pushing the boundaries of technology and Porsche for one has always created fuel efficient sports cars and by filling the torque curve to create a true linear power delivery is great for any driving enthusiast and fits well within the brand characteristics of McLaren and Ferrari.
A worthy successor to the legendary F1!
It was refreshing to see you out of the shop and therefore out of the shop denim. Jay, I like seeing you visiting the factories and learning what it takes to build your car.
The sound of the turbos on the down-shifts is fantastic. Great video-making!
It's amazing to think that Jay Leno's mere presence and patronage has in all likelihood probably INCREASED McLaren's standing and value more than anything else. That thought is simply mind blowing.
I don't know what's more shocking, the car, or the fact that Jay isn't wearing any denim
So jealous, such a lucky git. The P1 is my dream car, honestly one of the best cars ever produced

hypercar.
BYEBYE Damn it, I wanted to say that.
Then the porche 918 arrived
K31TH3R I think the Porsche 918 did that. The McLaren only moved a short step towards it.
Love how the paint changes colour from black and yellow.... :P
they were two cars at one point you can see them together smh
riley escabor Whoooosh.
Love that big smile on his face. When a car can do that it's a real machine.
That's the top Gear test track!!

You missed a comma between "one" and "Obi-Won"

Jay was tired of that E mode quick... lol

The black one with the silver wheels looks amazing.
Kevin Breese I was thinking exactly the same thing.
Leno /Harris =Topgear U.S. Saved
why are we not funding this!
Jays smile says it all - sold
This car will change the supercar world.
It already has...
Jay has become McLaren,s answer to Aston Martin,s James Bond connection ,hope he,s getting a good deal on his next acquisition........
I like the grin at 10:17.
The new F1? That's the boldest thing anyone's ever said
I agree. Incredibly bold words but coming from someone who drives as many cars as Leno does...I believe it. And a review like that is just astonishing. Looks like there may be a new king of supercars, I thought the Agera R would take that trophy but now Im not sure.

"The Ultimate Driving Machine" is BMW's motto...lol. Watch 3:03
The ultimate machine
I love their 720. So beautiful.
The black one is so cool.
there all cool
Damn, I just want that helicopter.
Marcus Coster it's an Airbus H130 B4 Corporate EJR. It's owned by McLaren, to use for customers and clients. Did you happen to check out the tag? _(registration)_
Wow Jay has always loved his F1, but the P1 is going to be close to his heart!
Someone should have some fun and attach a caravan behind it!
wow thats f1 technology on street legal. amazing!
Its actually illegal to drive it in race mode on the streets.
sonofhendrix who is goin ti be able to catch you?
Christian Hernandez
...a speed camera.
MadMax where did you read that it's illegal to drive it in race mode on the street?
That's absolutely, and 100% untrue.
It makes me happy to see Jay genuinely happy!
I'm guessing this is his P1? Left hand drive and the comment "I'm glad I ordered this color".
This particular one isn't his. In fact it's not a P1 at all. It's actually called the XP7. McLaren said it's the closest concept to the production car. But recently Jay had his P1 delivered in the same colour. And all P1 are left hand drive

It is a bit sad that it is LHD, to be honest, not because it "should" be RHD, but because the middle position of the F1 was so novel.
Jason Byers the P1 comes in right-hand drive or left hand drive, I don't really know what he's talking about. The car that Harry was driving last summer was right hand drive. McLaren P1 vS Sesto Elemento - i would love to see that.
Elemento win ;)
Jay is so funny...."Imagine what the car could do with someone that knew what they were doing" LOL
This is at the Top Gear Test Track
I notice that it's also an Airport runway.
Supercar Fan621 it's also Jay Leno. And he's driving a car. He also flew in a helicopter. And he went to the McLaren factory. And spoke to some management Executives.
There, that's my bit of running commentary added to yours.
is that the top gear track?
Yes it is.
That is the proving ground for McLaren.
Just looked up the 1/4 mile time… 9.8sec that is amazingly absurd. WOW, I'm hooked on This show/channel.(Jay Leno's garage)
Jay makes the exact same face my grandpa used to make when driving at normal speeds ha ha
Is that the topgear track? Looks like it.
It is.
Jeez mclaren's factory is beautiful. Their whole facility is quite superb actually
This car will eat an Aventador. I bet you can lap the Nurburgring in this car, get out and make a cup of coffee before the aventador crosses the line.
That looks like the Top Gear test track..
That's because it is... hell he even says it is, as he says he was there before to do "star in reasonably priced car," which is done on top gear.
The Top Gear track is at Dunsfold Aerodrome.
Lol
*****
In case you didn't hear, at 4:45 he clearly says "last time I was at Dunsfold..."
twinscroll turbo since forever. Top Gear have only ever used Dunsfold. Top Gear have never used Mallory Park, what are you talking about?
One of the most beautiful. The shape, the technology.
The ultimate driving machine? Isn't that BMWs slogan?
Top Gear Track
and I guess it's top gear cameramen as well
and I guess Jay Lenos massive chin can't feet on Stig helmet..
so for sure JL is not the Stig...

tmat04 they are doing very well in formula 1 racing. They know how to make a car handle because of their experience in formula 1
McLaren P1 GTR - Le Mans. Now that would be a car.
It looks a bit like a 90's concept car
That was pretty cool, Jay. I don't know how I missed this one. You're the best buddy.
Maybe Jay Leno is The Stig?
pretty sure i saw an interview where James May said himself that he was also the stig at one point. but he had been replaced. if i remember right it was around season 21 or something but not on Top Gear
Was that the top gear test track?
Yes, I think it's Dunstall? The old RAF Airfield if I'm not mistaken.
Dunsfold
Yes that is the Top Gear track. McLaren use it to test their cars.
Thanks for sharing Jay!
(glad you got one!!)
Jay looks a little bit baked. =P
At 1:00 he licks his finger. At 1:06 he shakes hands with the hand he licked. Ew.
Stop whining like a little bitch , there was a cut between the two scenes
I was just pointing something funny out, you don't need to overreact.
Harry Chernak
Harry is an Obama supporter--any bets? It wasn't funny, Harry.
jmshaw357 Why do you think I am an Obama supporter?
Its the way your brain works--or doesn't work. (ew) Its just a hunch. I also suspect you're a homosexual.
You can tell Jay's very impressed, he's not talking, just smiling...
The P1 is so perfect it's boring
Get a new haircut dude
I bet you own a FR-S
bob g i own a GT 86 .. and I'm about to own this one too ;)
***** in real life
Did he ask you to share thoughts about how boring it is
Thumbs Up if Your Here NOT From FORZA 5!

Absolutely agree. I am yet to hear a car that makes a sound as beautiful, haunting, and evocative as the Carerra GT. It. Just. HOWLS.
Doesn't Jay already have that car?
Jay is very lucky because he really isn't that funny at all. When I watch him on TV I think to myself "I don't get it.".

Jay is such a marvelous man!! Thanks Mr Leno!
Really enjoy "That Look" on Jay's face while he drives that Yellow Lightning. That McClarin is a machine that is a step above…. anything. Thanks for the videos , Jay.
Gary
I got mad respect for leno... What an awsome car enthusiast
it's a shame only a limited amount of people will experience this car. The smile on Mr. Leno's face at the end says it all.
Got a lot of respect for this guy. He buys them and drives them, that's what cars are all about.
"When you have had enough of e-mode you can just press that button" Jay: "Yeahhhh" Haha!
Thing sounds beautiful. Jay looked like a little boy having a blast driving this thing.
I wasnt to keen when i first saw pictures, but the moment you see the P1 in black it really is a stunning car, nice little touches of the F1 in there as well.
As usual Jay great show, funny and informative. Keep up the good work
People saying he doesnt deserve this car because he doesnt talk about it? If i had the chance to drive this i would be so focused on the car i wouldnt give a crap about speaking about it. Him and the car are one in this video.
I even mr. Leno was stunned. I have seen many episodes of JLG. And trust me. You don't see that very often
Wow... you can actually tell the difference between comfort and race modes even through this video. This is going to be one impressive machine!
Thank you Jay & McLaren!
well deserved Jay!
Jay, i envy you, you are one of the luckiest men to ever firmly grip a steering wheel!
well done Jay you deserve it!
Jay Leno, in the P1, on the Top Gear test track... perfection.
WOW?!?! That place is cleaner than any restaurant and most hospitals if not all. Thats incredible!
Just gotta love JAY such a mad car guy
I got chills, what an amazing piece of machinery.
One more fan from Brazil!
Just driven past 1 of these in this colour. Had to do a few more drive-by's. they are amazing
Dam it Jay! I vicariously live my love for cars through you. The look on your face was priceless. Congrats on the purchase. Money very well spent!
They have done it again. THE best car EVER!
For all the Brits, Top Gear are covering this car on this weekends episode. i cant wait. it looks awesome here
You have to admit a 6:57 round the ring combined with a 30+ km/liter fuel consumption, is impressive and gives the supercar the right to exist. They are all about pushing the boundaries of technology and Porsche for one has always created fuel efficient sports cars and by filling the torque curve to create a true linear power delivery is great for any driving enthusiast and fits well within the brand characteristics of McLaren and Ferrari.
One of the most beautiful shapes ever created.
