Spot on regarding the predators! You wouldn't believe the backlash I got for "thinning the raccoon population". The city lady said, they don't do any harm & are friendly animals. Obviously those type have NO CLUE how vicious they can be!

I have had pet raccoons that were wild animals, I would throw out cat food on our front porch because they lived under the house, then I would watch them scurry up and eat through the glass door... Then after a few months, they would walk right up to me and take bread and stuff out of my hands lol then again I'm a country girl and the raccoon population grew and grew and we ended up losing all our chickens to them. So lol they can be nice, but yeah they get out of control and kill everything....

      G. Green , Your sooooo typical of the MORONS who have NO idea of how the real world works. Same kind of hypocrite rectum who has no qualms eating what others have grown, killed, butchered out & delivered to your table. Try NOT being a hypocrite parasite & joining the REAL WORLD. At LEAST try learning some game managment & hopefully your head will pop out of your ass. IDIOT!!

In Virginia a couple decades ago, the raccoon population was not only huge, but largely rabid. Large populations pass contagion around more rapidly and when that population lives among people and domestic animals, things can get serious.

This is the life of a homesteader, farmer, etc. My dad was given crap by a group of folks some years back for raising beef cattle. I kid you not...a few hours later one of their group was at the local Dairy Queen eating a big ole cheese burger! No joke! SERIOUSLY folks where do you think God intended our food to come from. HE provides and good folks like John (my dads name too btw) manage what God gave us to survive. I am a huge proponent for animal welfare. I donate to my local shelters and adore and pamper my pets. I am however NOT oblivious to the needs of all Gods creation. That includes man and beast. What you're doing and folks like Jason at BB are opening eyes and educating folks. You're good men doing whatever you have to to care for your families. Like my dad. God Bless you and yours. Thank you for all you do!

@@MrGregHiller Actually, this has comes from the Bible Matthew 16:2b-3:
When it is evening, you say, "It will be fair weather; for the sky is red.
And in the morning, "It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.
In the U.K, it was the general rule of thumb for sailors for centuries, but was referenced by Shakespeare:
Like a red morn that ever yet betokened,
Wreck to the seaman, tempest to the field,
Sorrow to the shepherds, woe unto the birds,
Gusts and foul flaws to herdmen and to herds
      Sailors used this one:
Red sky at night, sailors' delight.
Red sky at morning, sailors take warning

i get harassed all the time for killing the rattlesnakes on my property. Here in the AZ desert, theres millions of snakes. People think they are "rare" because the only time city folk see them is in the zoo. If someone killed a jack rabbit, nobody would shed a tear.. But God forbid someone kill an extremely deadly and dangerous snake that coils up in your water hoses or eats your chickens XD If you dont live in the country, dont tell country people how to live XD

An interesting video indeed, made by a seemingly friendly and kind man, furnishing us with a great deal of background information, plenty of explanation, and a description, of what is being done, and why it is really necessary.
Omitting video of the dispatching of what you catch, which one assumes must take place, seems maybe a good idea at first, but actually is an integral part of what you do. If it is necessary and is carried out, it should also be shown, in my humble opinion.
Thanks for taking the trouble to make this video and place it here on RUclips.

It's not like those raccoons haven't played hell with you on your homestead this year. I ran into a possum one night on the stairs. It had it's teeth and claws bared and was ready to attack. I backed away, not turning my back to it and went up another way. Yesterday, before getting out of my car a coyote came trotting down the street. Somebody was going to lose their cat or dog. They are wild, dangerous and they kill other animals. All this happened in the city. Thanks for sharing John. It's all part of life and necessary.

Good content, we appreciate guys that trap around here. Without it we would be overrun with critters. Thanks for what you do.
