Kelly - the commanding voice, like a trumpet. The melody of the group.
Michelle - the jazzy voice, the only voice that add color to the group...texture...depth
All in all, the DC sounds is contigent upon all memembers

@@mo6liveshe definitely said that in the interview. Also Terrell didn't really make her sing as much like the rest of his guest so that pretty much confirmed it for me. I think a lot of people are trying to hold on because they really want a DC5 reunion. We would be lucky to get the trio.

@@mo6live she never seemed to have loved it like the others, but if you look up old videos of her singing solo, her voice was much stronger and smoother. I think she's damaged her voice with smoke and she's out of practice.

She's already done that (on her very first album no less). You must not be familiar with "Train On A Track".
And she also did it with the song Unity which actually did play on country radio in some areas back in the day. Fans have said this for years. Her ballads are LOVE!

It's Letoya and Latavia on the pre chorus, Kelly does not sing that part. Listen to the A cappella. Only two vocals on it and none of them are Kelly.

Michelle voice is unique, special, flexible and sooooo gorgeous. Letoya voice is sooooo pretty. Latavia voice is chesty and has the potential to be so dope. Kelly has a nice tone.
Kelly can SANG! There is such a beautiful clarity to her voice. And LETOYA! I have always loved her in the group. She’s such a beautiful girl. Her adult, more mature voice was such a nice surprise. And as a low voiced woman, I too love LaTavia’s tenor. ☺️

Letoya’s voice really was the signature background vocal for the writings on the wall album.
It’s funny you should say that because Letoya and Latavia only have vocals on FIVE songs on The Writing’s On The Wall album.

That’s simply not true. Beyoncé did a lot of the backgrounds as well as leads and people try attribute some of them to LeToya to make it seem she was the backbone or something.

I think the issue is that a lot of people ONLY prefer other members, because they want to have a reason to discredit Beyoncé, which is super weird. The preference isn’t genuine. Beyonce sings about 70% of all DC's catalogue. Also they are not credited on all the songs as producers. In their first and second album, only Beyonce had producer credits
This shows why the group sounded so good. They each have such beautiful voices separately. I could listen to any of them sing for hours and not get tired of it.

LeToya’s voice really relaxes me. It’s kinda like candles around a tub.
LaTavia’s raspy voice gives bass. It “completes” the quartet.
Michelle’s voice is animated. She versatile. She could sing Disney, or gospel in the same tone.
Kelly’s voice is straight from the soul. I hear a lil “pop” like Whitney Houston, a lil “fun” like Donna Summer, and “clear” like Gladys Knight. These girls can sang!💯💯💯

you can tell how out of practice Latavia was. she wasn't as confident as the rest and yet she clearly deserves to be there just as much. Real life legends!
And you can tell how little you know about her, her story and how she now feels about singing -- to include, but not limited to why she doesn't "try" to sing. She's far from "out of practice." She's traumatized and healing, so removing things that trigger her pain. But instead of being educated, here people like you are in these comments bashing her.

It took a toll on her voice l'île it always does to singers even the best of them (i.e Whitney Houston) and she was probably a chain smocker too like Aretha, Dionne and Whitney too. The vocal chords are fragile

We praise Beyoncé because she makes brilliant choices that are more acrobatic and showy. But what makes Kelly and LeToya amazing VOCALISTS is their acrobatics and TECHNIQUE are often very subtle & seamless like vocalists back in the day (i.e. Dionne Warwick and Donna Summer). That takes serious skill.
So true it's so easy to belt out something but the control and technique it takes to sing strong and beautifully in lower acrobatic ways is another monster!

The point the person was making and that I second is that Bey is more likely to be the one you hear belting out screaming powerhouse vocals where as the other mentioned ladies who are also powerhouse vocalist are more likely to sing in a more lower sultry subtle tone and controled technique.

Kelly is effortlessly perfect! Michelle is so much more talented than she gets credit for, such a beautiful unique voice. Letoya sings beautifully and held back on her full vocal range.
I need Michelle to release a jazz.....songs (since she doesn't want a full album).
I would love to hear LeToya and Michelle together. Two sopranos who reach great heights seemingly with ease, but two different voices and singing styles. "You got me SOO torn!" "I found it in Go-oo-oo-OO-OOOOD!" (Gotta see original video)
To me:
Beyonce = trumpet
Kelly = amplified clarinet/flute
LeToya = oboe
Michelle = violin
LaTavia = cello (singing may not have always been her thing but she held down that low note in their harmonies so well)

Letoya's clean, clear style of voice reminds me of Patrice Rushen. That lighter voice type can be the secret sauce that blends a harmony like no other. It doesn't always stand out as much, but that's also part of why it helps the chords sound cohesive. Siobhan does the same thing for the Sugababes...who should definitely get a breakdown on this channel, come to think of it.

I've always loved how warm, dexterous and powerful Kelly's voice is. LaToya surprised me because I rarely ever hear her live but she sounds like she just stepped out the studio #ready. La Tavia had the most unique voice in the group and her harmonies were missed. Someone said she was to DC what Melvin Franklin was to the Temptations and I kinda agree!
i went back and listened to the DC albums as Terrell posted the ladies and i felt just like you; i could hear their singular parts now. i loved every moment of that week, LeToya was my favorite though 😊
For those who want to hear more of Latavia's low register, there's a song from a special edition of "The Writing's On The Wall" called Can't Help Myself (it's here on RUclips ). Latavia sings the first verse. She also sings the first verse in Sweet Sixteen (also from The Writing's On The Wall). Her voice reminds me a lot of T-boz from TLC.
Can't Help Myself is perhaps the only song, if I'm not mistaken, where each of them sings separately and you can hear their voices distinctly.
