  • In Part 2 of Grafted’s Bible Roundtable at ChosenCon, Sam and Dr. Tom get some great insight from Dr. Doug Huffman, Father David Guffey, and Rabbi Jason Sobel. The consultants discuss how The Chosen deliberately portrays Jesus as a Jewish man. By restoring His Jewish identity, the panel argues Jesus’s incarnation is even more radical than we can comprehend.
    Thank you for a great discussion:
    Rabbi Jason Sobel: @rabbijasonsobel, fusionglobal.org
    Dr. Douglas S. Huffman: davidccook.org/authors/dr-douglas-s-huffman/
    Father David L. Guffey: familytheater.org/about-us

    I appreciate that The Chosen has focused on Jewish traditions and Hebrew Scriptures, as well as New Testament accounts and stories. When I taught religious education, I always asked my students whether Jesus was a Jew. They almost always responded that he was a Christian. Then I could explain the Jewishness of Jesus to their amazement. Thanks, Chosen.

    The humanity of Yeshua is not talked about nearly enough. The brutal truth is that He was fully God and fully man... as much God as a human can contain BUT He was human. He felt what we felt. He lived a life full of sorrow and sometimes joy. He endured a torture that we cannot even imagine... and I am not talking about crucifixion or the scourging or even the humiliation... I am talking about having to bear all of the sins of the world and doing so while the eyes of the Father were turned from Him! He was utterly dependent on the Father and He was abandoned to bear that ALONE. This is why He was distraught and asked for this "cup" be taken from Him. He didn't fear the pain of the body... it was the anguish of His very soul. And unless He was really human all of that would mean NOTHING. He taught us how to live. Not as a God posing as a man... but as an actual man that felt everything we feel and overcame it.
    There are some that are offended by the depiction of Yeshua in the Chosen. There are some who think it is offensive. And many hold the production crew to an unreasonable standard. They are just sinful humans trying to do their best to make a production that tells the story of Yeshua the best that we can. Of course there are extra Biblical conversations. It isn't a documentary. It is intended to show Yeshua in a light that MIGHT just get people to think about Him and read the story for themselves in the Bible. Bludgeoning people with accusations of how awful they are and how God will send them to hell is not working. People tune out. Showing them a Yeshua that is human and still is amazing in His compassion and bold in His defense of truth and righteousness is a good way to get through to some people. The truth is that Yeshua is the Superhero of Superheroes! All of us should have Him as our Idol... our hero... most of all our ultimate role model. There is no one else worth to fill those shoes. If the Chosen can get some people to soften some hearts then why on earth would anyone object to it?

    Praise Jesus. Jesus I come to you today because you are all I have. As a single mother and I’m in need of your guidance and support both of my sons. Both of my sons are special needs and require so much from me. I also ask for your help in providing for my children so that they may have all they need. Lord as I struggle each month to pay rent and as I struggle to buy groceries I pray that you will give me the strength to be the best mother I can be.

    It's important to note that salvation came through the lineage of Abraham and David but that salvation is for everyone, for all nations, kindreds, and tongues. Most Christians understand this point and are thankful for his lineage and heritage, however, very few, and many Jews included understand that this very lineage and heritage was essential and necessary, fulfilling prophecies and covenants, making all of His followers His children, His covenant people, His own.

    Wow, you guys! This video changed my whole perspective of Jesus in such a positive way! Now, what Jesus said and did makes so much more sense. "To sin is anti-human"--wow. Yes! In Christ, we are no longer slaves to sin like we once were. God gives us the power to strive towards perfection/righteousness--for example, wearing the Armor of God, holding thoughts captive, a way out if tempted, etc. So, like Tom said, that knowing this, with Christ, we CAN be righteous. And like Sam said, we were created for relationship, not sin and temptation. Wow, wow, wow. Thank you guys so much for this video that brings so much clarity and for all the work you do.

    One of the things that I like about The Chosen is the focus on Jewish culture and traditions. I thought that I knew a little something about Judaism, but now I realize that I really don’t. I especially appreciate the celebration of Shabbat; it seems like a very nice tradition and way to end the work week 😀And I had never heard anyone say, “Shalom, Shalom” before, either 😎 Hopefully, this kind of information will familiarize people with Jesus’s background and will also serve to stem the nauseating rising tide of anti-Semitism that is taking place at Ivy League colleges right now 😖

    Okay, if Jesus chose to identify himself forever with being Jewish, does that mean all other racial and national identities of mankind will retain their identities as well? How can Jesus remain Jew for eternity if all other nations melted into a generic pool? Or they won't?

    • @Grafted
      @Grafted  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, we believe that everyone maintains their distinctions within the Body of Messiah. Galatians 3:28 shows us that we all have equal status in Messiah but our genders, ethnicities, etc remain.

    My problem is Jesus in this series seems ALL human and no divinity. I love the show but it is beginning to feel lopsided. Is the transfiguration in S 4? If not will it be in the show? If not why not? Jesus is God and human equally that the show shy away from His Divinity is startling to bother me.

    • @annme7638
      @annme7638 3 месяца назад +1

      “No divinity”? “Shying away from His divinity”? Exactly what series have you been watching? Jesus casting out demons, healing the blind, paralyzed, the leper, raising the dead, turning water to wine, multiplying loaves and fish, calming a storm with a word, declaring Himself the Son of Man, the I Am who I Am, the Son of God. What in the world do you think this shows if not His divinity?

      @@annme7638 l mean no disrespect by my comment, either to the show or its fans. I used to be one of those fans, I still am but if the show has to downplay Jesus' divinity in order to appeal and appease modern audience who do not want to see Jesus as God then that tells me something and it taints my view and enjoyment of the show. Just a personal opinion.

    • @annme7638
      @annme7638 3 месяца назад

      @@maireflannigan5087 I have to disagree. They have not downplayed Jesus’ divinity, of which I’ve given multiple examples, in order to appeal and appease modern audiences who do not want to see Jesus as God. What they are doing is showing Jesus for who He was, fully God and fully man. They are clearly showing Jesus’ divinity with His actions and words, which is the same way scripture points to His divinity.

    7:11 “He (Jesus) is helping us be more righteous. I will say it differently, He is helping us be more Human”
    Did you see what he did there? Scripture says that only God is Righteous and the only way we can be counted as righteous is to seek Him and become more like Him…and yet these men are teaching the exact opposite - that to be righteous is to be human and to be more righteous is to be more human.
    🤢🤮
    Scripture: God made man in His image
    Man: Look! Jesus is made in my image!
    Scripture: Sin is anti-God because it represents man turning from God to seek himself.
    Man: Sin is anti-human cuz well consequences.
