the fact that a video is needed for something that used to be so simple does not detract from the help you have graciously provided. Thank you. I still believe the manufacturers are doing a disservice regardless of their intentions.
Thank you very much. I was just about to drive 19 miles (each way) to the store where I just bought this utility knife to either return it or have them show me how to make it work. Went to you tube first and you taught me how to do it very quickly. Saved two gallons of gas!! Thank you much.
+John Helmstadter time is money for sure. I'm very happy I was able to help you with your utility knife. I was in the same dilemma and about 45 minutes from town but I found instructions online but who wants to read. Hahaha
Cannot believe I had to watch a video to figure out how to change the blade, but your instructions were so clear. Thank you for taking the time to explain what you learned.
☺God bless you and all your children!! Minor flooding emergency here 6 am, and I had the right tool but no idea how to get the blade in! Got it now thanks to you - (my Rv flooded last night, frozen weather, need to cut the yuck out of the wet carpet ASAP... I'd have been sunk without you!) Cheers! ☺
5 years after you posted this, it's still helpful. Couldn't figure it out, now I know, thank you! The blade release on mine is a red button just to the front of where yours is, but works just the same
Thank you! I felt so stupid not being able to do this...lol I am remodeling a huge 4 bedroom home on my own and needed to cut some pieces of drywall to patch where the previous occupants put an AC unit in the kitchen, leaving a HUGE hole in wall. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much!! I figured SOMEONE MUST have a video on this!! I’ve been sitting in my car for the last ten minutes frustrated after purchasing one because the holder wouldn’t grab the blade lol. Couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong!!! The directions on package were very vague. So I appreciate this very much!!!!
This is exactly why I love making videos. I love helping people with the things that I have trouble with. When I finally figure things out, then I love to make videos to help others. The Stanley FatMax is not intuitive and the blade is not easy to install until you see the exact technique.
Thanks for the instructions. I bought one on clearance for $5 this morning and was almost taking it back. It didn't come with any instructions and I thought who needs instructions for a Stanley Knife!!?? Really appreciated it.
I had lost the instructions years ago for my Fat Max and also apparently lost my patience somewhere along the way. So after several attempts to pry it open with a screw driver and throwing it across the garage several more times (all of which didn't work, but also didn't break ol' fat either) I thankfully came across your video. Much appreciated sir!
Thank you! I also had the red button version of another commenter and this worked. Before I got too frustrated just googled and found your video. You are a life saver
Thank you for creating a video about loading a FAT MAX. I can't believe Stanley sells the knife without instructions. And as commentors demonstrate, the process is not obvious. Again, thanks!
Thank you so much. I had to look up and read instructions, and that took over 10 minutes to figure out...but then I found I could show everyone how to get the blade into a Stanly FatMax in less than 2 minutes, right there on my lake cabin deck in the beautiful sun. I have many more helpful vlogs to share and now I upload something each day. Subscribe and check it out.
Thank you!!! Husband is sleeping and I was determined to do this. No luck. Even took out screw with wth! You made me look smart. So thank you!! From woman on a mission
Working on a project at 1:30 AM and needed help loading my Stanley FATMAX utility knife. Pulled up these instructions and happy to say now I know how to open the thing and load the blade. Instructions spoken clearly, easy to understand, visual great help!! Thanks, I learned something new, along with some safety tips (always welcome)!
Just like you said... sad, I could not figure it out myself. The video was great. I pushed the switch forward, noticed the button was stiff, the way it was meant to be, and holding it in the blade went in easy. I just had to keep pressing the button in. Thanks now. Like so many others, I know and am thankful for your video. 6 years and still good
I got really frustrated with changing my blades and i asked my stepdad to help and he took the whole thing apart. This video just gave me insight on to change the blade. Thank you!
You are a lifesaver! I've been taking my knife apart to change the razor in it and cussing the whole way. I kept wondering how could Stanley make a utility knife like this. I always wondered what the little red button was for. That's what you get for not looking at the directions. Now I'm a happy camper! Thank you Stanley for having a video on a utility knife.
Thanks for the info. I bought a new knife and I kind of assumed they had a fresh blade in it. But they were all in the handle. That made it easy to install the new blade in the front and the retractable feature works fine! Thanks again.
I was trying to swivel it open like the old style Stanley. I'm glad you made this video before my wife could look at it, push the button, take out the blade, look at me silently and walk away.
I don't think I had tried anything different from what you have demonstrated here - but while watching your video, it "magically" went into place. Maybe you calmed me down - or maybe it was an extra jiggle, or just ... magic. Ha ha! Thanks!!
Thank you! I thought I was doing it wrong but I just pushed it in a little harder and it locked in place. Saved me from wasting my time trying to figure it out on my own
I had to read an online owners manual to figure this Stanley FatMax utility knife out. I made a video so that others and figure it out much more easily than I did. Thank you for taking the time to tell me that this video helped you. I love helping people.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this informative and very helpful video that all sellers of FATMAX should view. I appreciate your time and interest.
Wonderful! I even had a problem where the blade wouldn't fully retract, there was always an eighth of an inch sticking out. This solved that issue too! Thanks again!
thank you, truly appreciated. I've been sitting on this knife for a while without a blade, after watching more than one of thee different vids your dud the trick. My issue was there was no blade in the tip.
My knife ( Stanley Fat Max ) did not have the black button. It had a little red one. But it worked the same way. I changed the blade in seconds. Thank You. You are a great teacher !
I grabbed the Philips screw driver to install the blade. Didn't work obviously so off to RUclips. Didn't know it had blades so I bought a pack just in case. Better to have them and not need them than need and not have . Thanks for the video.
I can’t believe Stanley is still in business. When you need to go to RUclips to figure out how to operate a utility knife, things have gotten ridiculous.
I've used razor knives most of my working life and never had such a problem changing the blade. This should have instructions imprinted on the case for us old guys. Thanks for the helpful video. ( I can't believe I had to watch a video to learn how to change out a blade!)
Thank you so much! I've had this darn thing for 6 years and was always trying to take it apart like the original ones. along comes YOUTUDE, HELLO! thank you, Buddy for sharing...SIMPLE.
Great Job! Thanks For The Video!! The manufacturers have clearly failed with this design attempt. I’ll stick with my old-fashioned “one screw” wonder!!
video was very helpful like some of the others have had this box cutter for a minute and finally got around to it came across your video easy steps great teaching on something that i often use keep up the good work ! jerry barraza ur friend in el paso!
Thank You! I would never figured out how to do this without your video. I was trying to do it the way the my older models of the Stanley utility knifes open.
I just bought this yesterday ripped off the label and went home i was gonna go back and buy another one just for the package so i can read it again thank goodness i found this video ❤️
The same problem happened to us, but after looking it up on Google I just had to make a video about how to change the blade in the Stanley FatMax knife. Thanks for watching the Frosty Life channel.
Thank you for this video! I bought the knife today. The only instruction on the packinging is a picture that only makes sense if you already know how to change the blades. The Stanley website isn't helpfule either. Your video saved me a lot of time and frustration. The newer model has a little red button instead of a black button at the front (to release the old knife and load the new one). It works exactly the same way.
You sir are a godsend. I don't know if I would say I owe you my life, but if I ever met you in real life I'd give you a firm hand shake and a dollar. I genuinely hope you have a good week
OMG! Stanley Tools should have links from their demonstrably useless website's "support" links to your channel. I found the answer on how to change this blade from your video in 1/20 the time it took me to just navigate their website. Thank you!
In 2023 they have changed the design some but the tutorial still does the job. Cheers mate.
Thank you for this. I was struggling to fit the blade until I came across this video and I fitted it immediately thanks to you.
the fact that a video is needed for something that used to be so simple does not detract from the help you have graciously provided. Thank you.
I still believe the manufacturers are doing a disservice regardless of their intentions.
I wasted about 10 minutes trying to change my Stanley FATMAX blade. So glad I found this video. Thanks for posting!!
Thank you very much. I was just about to drive 19 miles (each way) to the store where I just bought this utility knife to either return it or have them show me how to make it work. Went to you tube first and you taught me how to do it very quickly. Saved two gallons of gas!! Thank you much.

I also just came looking for how to do this I hope I have better luck than this guy getting it started back in...LOL...
Yes, mine is similar to yours. It was easy to work out though as the instructions he gave were clear.
Thanks! You just helped an 84 yo widowfix her box cutter!!!
Thank you! I felt so stupid not being able to do this...lol I am remodeling a huge 4 bedroom home on my own and needed to cut some pieces of drywall to patch where the previous occupants put an AC unit in the kitchen, leaving a HUGE hole in wall. THANK YOU!

Absolutely agree with you on all points.
I've used this video a few times because I always have trouble with this. Thank you for making my life easier.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to get the blade to lock until watching you do it!
Thanks for the instructions. I bought one on clearance for $5 this morning and was almost taking it back. It didn't come with any instructions and I thought who needs instructions for a Stanley Knife!!?? Really appreciated it.

Do you know how immensely helpful this video was when I was in the middle of a project??!! Thank you!
I really enjoy helping people. Thank you for taking the time to write a very kind comment.
I didn’t know how get it out or in, but thanks to this, now I do. Unfortunately when I opened it, there were no blades. sigh.
Thank you! I also had the red button version of another commenter and this worked. Before I got too frustrated just googled and found your video. You are a life saver
Glad I could help

Thank you so much! I wish I had looked and found your video BEFORE I completely disassembled mine. The "proper" way is working awesome!
Working on a project at 1:30 AM and needed help loading my Stanley FATMAX utility knife. Pulled up these instructions and happy to say now I know how to open the thing and load the blade. I got really frustrated with changing my blades and i asked my stepdad to help and he took the whole thing apart. This video just gave me insight on to change the blade. Thank you!
Yes, I tried taking mine apart at first too...so I just had to make a video once I figured out how easy it is

Thank you, your video helped me change the blade in my Dewalt utility knife for which I could not find a tutorial video.
Thank you sooo much. I couldn't get the blade to retract all the way in, but your tip on the "wiggle it a bit" really helped.
Thanks for the info. I bought a new knife and I kind of assumed they had a fresh blade in it. But they were all in the handle. That made it easy to install the new blade in the front and the retractable feature works fine! Thanks again.
YES!!!! I finally can put the blade in after watching 3 other videos first! Thank you so much!!
Thank you! I was having problems putting in a new blade. Your video has helped me out.
Glad I could help
Thank you for taking time to do this video, it's very helpful!
Thanks, I needed that. The best video.
I was trying to swivel it open like the old style Stanley. I'm glad you made this video before my wife could look at it, push the button, take out the blade, look at me silently and walk away.
Thank You for sharing!! didnt even know it had a hidden compartment or how to replace the blades.
Great video
I don't think I had tried anything different from what you have demonstrated here - but while watching your video, it "magically" went into place. Maybe you calmed me down - or maybe it was an extra jiggle, or just ... magic. Ha ha! Thanks!!
Thank you - new FATMAX didn't come with instructions but this got me sorted out.
Thank you :) found an old one in one of my toolboxes and like the weight and quality but couldn't figure out how to switch the blade.
Thank you! I thought I was doing it wrong but I just pushed it in a little harder and it locked in place. Saved me from wasting my time trying to figure it out on my own
Thanks. You just helped another person. (had the red button version but answered all my questions)
Good morning, bought my knife yesterday, your film saved me many (many) moments of frustration! Thank you & VBW :)
I really appreciate the very positive comment. I am very happy to hear that this helped.
Thanks! I couldn’t figure out how it was supposed to be done, so I turned to your video. Helpful!
Just what I wanted to know clearly explained. Many thanks
The red button is the older model. Can't believe I have been taking mine apart for years. Only use it once or twice A year. Great vid.
Ray Comeau and
You made my day. Thank you so much.
Hi Ray, just did it (took a few seconds) - Thanks so much!
Rick james. red red button model is the newer model dumbass
Man I was thinking the same thing
Thank you so much for the info. I was having trouble putting the blade in, but you made it a lot more simple.
I really enjoy helping people with things like the blade replacement on the Stanley FatMax.
Great video and great blade but if you haven’t change the blade in a while great video!
I've used razor knives most of my working life and never had such a problem changing the blade. This should have instructions imprinted on the case for us old guys. Thanks for the helpful video. ( I can't believe I had to watch a video to learn how to change out a blade!)
LOL...As a fellow older guy I feel your pain-I to had to go online to get some help.....
Thank you so much! I've had this darn thing for 6 years and was always trying to take it apart like the original ones. along comes YOUTUDE, HELLO! thank you, Buddy for sharing...SIMPLE.
FINALLY Googled this and got your video after giving up several times. TY 👍
Thank you, you helped me figure out how to put a new blade in after the one that I was using popped out for some reason while I was scoring sheetrock.
Great Job! Thanks For The Video!! The manufacturers have clearly failed with this design attempt. I’ll stick with my old-fashioned “one screw” wonder!!
We need more people like you in this world.
Thank you.
I am here to serve, Mr. President
Thank you. I had forgotten how easy it is to replace.
Thank you! Best video. I love that your video gave me the information I needed and you got right to the topic. No unnecessary chatting!
Thanks! I use this knife infrequently enough that by the time I need to change the blade, I ALWAYS seem to have forgotten how to do it.
My husband died a few years ago and I didn't know how to change the blade in my fatmax. Great video. I am woman and can do this! Thanks
Thanks! I was going crazy trying to figure it out. I'm glad ur video was the first one I watched.
video was very helpful like some of the others have had this box cutter for a minute and finally got around to it came across your video easy steps great teaching on something that i often use keep up the good work ! jerry barraza ur friend in el paso!
Glad I could help
Thank You! I would never figured out how to do this without your video. I was trying to do it the way the my older models of the Stanley utility knifes open.
I just bought this yesterday ripped off the label and went home i was gonna go back and buy another one just for the package so i can read it again thank goodness i found this video ❤️
Thank you. I was in big trouble not being able to replace the blade 😊😊😊
Glad I could help
Excellent video. Still applicable years later. I had forgotten how to do this.
Hahaha, I have to watch my own video because I forget how to do this as well. Thanks for watching our FROSTY LIFE
Dude-many thanks...This Stanley is really touchy (as yours appeared, too) but your video really helped. Thumbs up to you!
Thank you!!! I tried and tried and ran across your video! Take care!
Helped out another dude. I got the FATMAX foldable. Thanks man
thanks so much! My husband and I were having quite the time trying to figure this out!
The same problem happened to us, but after looking it up on Google I just had to make a video about how to change the blade in the Stanley FatMax knife. Thanks for watching the Frosty Life channel.
Thank you so much- moments of frustration gone within seconds of watching this!😄
wow, can't believe I had to watch a video on how to use this. thanks so much for posting this! now back to work, lol
Thanks so much for letting us know the other side of the blade is usable!
Thx 4 the upload, I was struggling with it and you saved me!❤
Thank you so much for the help I was bout to break this thing in half. Being a woman my grandfather tought me alot just never got around to this.
Grandfathers are good teachers. I am glad this video helped you with your Stanley Fatmax
Thanks!! You explained in a very nice and clear way exactly what I needed to know!
I love to help people.
Thank you so much! I can barely get the replacement blades in there, but your encouraging us to wiggle it helped me finally. Not so easy though.
That was the nicest sign-off I’ve heard on youtube! Thank you for this video
thanks! I was very frustrated as the picture instructions made it look like you have to depress two buttons at once! your video helped me a lot!
I had been struggling with this freaking tool, thank you ❤
Thank you sir, very clear and helpful instructions!
THANK YOU. Video much better than the 'directions' that came with the fatmax.
Yay! Thanks so much! It was my first time loading a blade and this helped alot!
Thank you from a german hobby-craftswoman - you helped me very much 👍
I took my knife all apart before I found your video. Tks.
Thanks for the video. I had a little situation with the blade on mine coming out by accident. Now the blade is back in.
You sir are a godsend. I don't know if I would say I owe you my life, but if I ever met you in real life I'd give you a firm hand shake and a dollar. I genuinely hope you have a good week
Thanks, wiggling is definitely more effective than pushing hard like I tried to do in the first place.
Worked like a charm. Thank you!
I had different model, but this made it very easy to do. thanks
Wow - thank you so much. I never knew.... and now I do thanks to you. Appreciate your making this video.
Very well explained and very helpful!! Thank you!
This is a very helpful video. Made the blade change easy peasy for me. Thanks!!
I am very happy to hear that my Stanley FatMax video helped you change the blade. Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive comment.
Thanks
It was driving me crazy trying to figure out👍🏽
Thanks so much! Easy to follow and great voice😀
Great video! I, too, was stumped at how to change the blade.
this was a very clear and helpful, thank you so much!
Thank you! Just followed your instructions and I'm good to go now! Question for anyone out there - what is a good way to dispose of the old blades?
OMG! Stanley Tools should have links from their demonstrably useless website's "support" links to your channel. I found the answer on how to change this blade from your video in 1/20 the time it took me to just navigate their website.
Thank you!
