    Good old Sam. He simply says 'I sailed here, then I sailed there,' while showing how he fearlessly takes a small boat, alone, anywhere in the world, across any ocean. He faces ridiculous challenges that would result in a drama-filled 'I quit' video from any other creator. Whatever it is, he just works it out. He even rejects telling us how much he likes drinking that soylent green looking stuff everyone pushes.

    I placed several soft shackles loosely along the boom (my mainsail has slugs so under the foot of the sail) and run the leech reef lines along the boom through the soft shackles. This keeps them from hanging loose. I have two small jam cleats on the boom near the gooseneck that I loosely coil and hook the mast end of the leech lines to when not in use. This keeps them near the boom and out of the way. Works for me.

    Sam, Other RUclips channels are find the same with their view count. With RUclips trying to block Adblock etc and forcing useless and irrelevant adverts about every 5 minutes, people are going Incognito (aka Private) without signing in, which means they cannot click 'Like' or comment - which is bad for you. It also means RUclips defaults to counting these views as a Bot that YOU made - which is also bad for you. Until these adverts get to be unobtrusive again, the situation ain't gonna get any better. And now, fair winds and clean fuel; see you on the water!

So when the main was at full hoist the reefing lines were also at full hoist. When the sail was reefed or when the sail was put away for the day I just tucked the excess lines into the folded sail. @bradzeigler I first read about it in readers digest. And somewhere I got a hold of the paperback. For certain it was pre 1979. I am 60 this year. About 10 years ago, post divorce and after kids grown, I had made a plan, a vision quest so to speak, that included working at missionary friends works all the way down into South America, and then somehow working on some vessel that would have me go through the straight of Magellan in the dead of winter and then head to South Africa. God had heard my foolish plan ( it didn't end in South Africa) and sent my my soon to be wife and that brought my employer of 27 years to make me an offer that led this Waterman to Las Vegas. In trade off, I also purchased a home in Oceanside CA. Where I have instilled a love of the sea in my Granddaughters. May they live a life of wonderful dreams as I have. May they never desire to face the Antarctic Ocean in winter as I still do.

    During the same cruise my ship visited Corfu, or Korfu, we also traversed the Dardanelles, known as the Hellespont in ancient Greece, and pulled into Istanbul. On one side Europe, the other Asia. I thought that was pretty cool and made sure to visit both sides of the Bosphorus Bridge.
    While we were there one of our sailors went out and got schnockered then decided to urinate on a statue of the father of modern Turkey, the very highly revered Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. 😒 He was promptly jailed and it caused an international incident, though I'm sure not one still talked of today. 😅
    When out on liberty in international ports it was common to eat at restaurants. We were highly cultured sailors and so invariably if the port had a McDonalds it would be the top choice. 🙄 Istanbul had one and it was patronized by many of the worldly crew. 😂
    Anyway, Istanbul is a very interesting city due to its history and architecture. The Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque are must-sees.

    On my CD36 the reefing lines go forward through fair leads on the boom to a cleat not too far back from the mast. After reefing those lines are coiled and hung from the cleat. I thought most boats a rigged that way but I am no expert. Cheers.

    • @akathesquid5794
      @akathesquid5794 6 месяцев назад

      agreed. my clew reefs (3) run inside the boom and come out in various places on the boom to clutches. I try to neaten up prior reef line (remove dangle slack) when taking a deeper reef. sometimes shaking out a reef or doing a full hoist you have 3 reef lines needing to pull slack through their clutches/sheaves/cringles. you need to remember to ease all reef clutches when hoisting if you had taken up their slack to prevent that dangling. on some boats there is too much friction of the clew reef lines around boom sheaves and the luff cringles so hoisting can get difficult as the sail tries to pull out the reef line it needs. so yeah, if you don't do that then you have lots of clew reef line loop on deep reefs or when you completely drop the sail. then you need a place to tuck it all, either a net/bag at the boom end or stuffing line into sail folds.

      I have NO idea why people do not spend the 11.99/mo. It is BY FAR the best 12 bucks I spend a month.. It is two Starbucks coffees ffs... Just cut out two of those and you're not only ad-free, you're healthier!
