Mr Sam thank for sharing your awesome experiences im basically a shut in with brain damage and really enjoy escaping to pickled herring world
I share your sentiments and affliction. if you’re near water I’m sure you (and I) can find a kindred soul to take us for a sail sometime 🙏
Dear Sam Holmes:
it appears some ahole has created a fake channel and is impersonating and tryne scam...saw this happen on my friend hobo shoestrings channel last year... i shall report this useless, scamming idiot
@@SamHolmesSailing.__
Sam...its sometimes the small things that I hang onto with your videos such as the sounds and sights of the seas splashing over the rail. Maybe its just me longing for those moments again while the winter months tick by....but I bet others feel that way too. Thanks for bringing us along! Dean
Well said, absolutely feel that way. Love Sam’s raw view of this adventure, minimal edits and silly stock music
You, Mr Sam Holmes are the modern day Bernard Moitessier, an understated master of your craft, sail on my friend, you are an inspiration to us all!
I think Sam is great but comparing him to Moitessier is a gross exaggeration. Bernard was a unique, one off, timeless individual that will be forever remembered. Sam is one of literally thousands of cruisers around the world, many of whom have vastly superior skills and experience. Sam's uniqueness is that he makes entertaining videos.
@@stephenburnage7687 maybe split the difference - Sam's achievements in a small boat are impressive and he's still young. He's also modest and unpretentious; not something you'd necessarily say about Moitessier.
@Lightw81 There are probably around 2 to 5,000 full-time cruisers out there. Of those, some are extraordinarily talented, and some are a positive danger (to themselves and others). Sam, like me, would fall somehwere in the middle of the pack. Not bad for a young guy. The people he and I would be impressed by, and whom we occasionally rub shoulders with, have extraordinary skills, such as rounding Cape Horn solo or rebuilding an engine while bouncing around offshore. Their stories are rarely videod and almost never appear on YT. I am sure Sam would say the same. However, Moitessier is another league altogether. For a start, he belonged to an era before modern navigation, equipment and materials and never even had an engine. Even within his small group of (1960's) peers, some of whom are still alive and one of whom I met, he was regarded as an absolute, timeless legend
well said @stephenburnage7687 although 5k full time cruisers seems a bit light, 50k maybe? Only a small subset of us are on RUclips
@everydayeverything You are probably right. It's hard to measure the size of the global cruising community from where I am (empty West Coast Panama).
Woo hoo! Sail on Sam!
He's strong to the finich cause he eats his spinach, he's Sam Holmes the sailor man. Toot toot 😂 💪
The channel is growing so much these days, it’s well deserved sam!
I feel it is because Sam and his content feels genuine. He is passionate about this and shares his experiences without expecting or trying to engineer us to care as much as he does which makes us do - naturally and genuinely. The moment he changes and starts taking his success -or his viewers - for granted I think I will stop caring and watching. It is rare to find someone genuine on RUclips who just wants to share their passion no questions asked. Sam is one of those people I feel. Plus I get the tickle in my stomach from the sailing shots and long for the waters myself which helps.
not as much as his hair
Go Pickle go! She loves heavier air now with those new sails!
You asked, I have separate jib sheets and instead of a bowline knot I use an overhand knot (ABOK 1410). A very strong knot that ties close against the clew so it is less likely to hang up like a bowline on a shroud when tacking. It will need to be cut off when changing the sheets at some future date but only about a foot of each sheet will be sacrificed.
Thanks
Great sailing Sam, ,you certainly push Pickles to the limit 😮😁👍⛵
That morning view was to die for.
Thank you for a great video. Ive gott 2 inch of snow in sweden today! So its fun to watch your videos from the sun and warmer weather. 😊❤
Wow, you are MOVING! The new sails seem to be working for ya!
A true gentleman of the seas, Sam Holmes.
Great video Sam. You can tell you are having a blast pushing Pickle a little bit harder than normal. So much fun to watch . Thank you
Another great video Sam. Thanks
Just.love your videos Sam 👍👍👍
Cave shots were awesome too!
Excellent content Sam, many thanks.
Sam great content thanks buddy
Thanks for the videos. Really enjoy seeing your journey and hearing your thoughts
Great sideways sailing!..Thanks man
Aluminum soft drink or beer cans make excellent shims.
awesome action sailing, thank you!
Sam, you're in for a cold winter! Love the video's best channel on RUclips for sailing. Happy Thanksgiving, Sam!
Great video & thanks for the update on your winter plans.
Your videos brings me too a peaceful place that helps me escape all the negativity in the world. Thanks a hole bunch 🙂
These videos are too cool! Thanks for sharing your rationale when tackling projects and navigating. That way, those of us considering learning to sail can, maybe, tuck a bit of a seasoned sailor’s knowledge away for later on. 👍🤗🤔
Glad you are no longer stuck!
Love your videos Sam ! You are so real !
i thought he was AI
Good video Sam. looking forward to your Norway and other "random" adventures
Excellent video really capturing the sailing in Greece.
Beautiful anchorage ❤
living the dream SAM !!
Dinghy video shots were awesome ❤
some good horizonal color that first evening. but yeh..real nice video..enjoyed all that heeling wind in the good sailing conditions
Thanks Sam. Hope you enjoy your winter with Anne-elin, her videos are excellent also.
Keep on doing what you're doing !
Thanks for keeping it real.
Terry and I have to say again that is some slick filming and editing my friend.

The tiller head on my Alberg 30 looks almost identical. Mine has an allen head set screw at the front of the rudder shaft that was frozen in place. I had to drill it out, rethread the hole and install the next larger size allen head set screw and that fixed the free play problem. Again I replaced my double braid sheets with single braid. Very, very comfortable and light and they never twist up like double braids.
Thanks for the tip
Love this dude
Look at that sunrise...
Thanks!
The play in the tiller is from wear in the fitting on top of the rudder post where the bolt goes through. Shimming the sides is just fixing the symptom. I know because my boat needs to have that part pulled off and a bushing installed at a machine shop. One of my cold season projects.
Thanks for the info. I’ll look into that next time im back in the states.
What you can do for your sheets is give the sleeve some slack. To do this, expose the core at one end, remove say 20 cm. Move the sleeve slack evenly on the whole line, and put new whipping on the end. There is no reason why dyneema rope should be less comfortable.
281th LIKE... 1623rd watch gotta happen later... sailing with Sam!! More great captures... zooming along!!
go bird friend! he thanked you for that opportunity to rest
I like the soft shackle on the jib sheets to clew connection, but I'm a trailer sailor, so I put them on/take them off every time I rig/unrig the boat. I brummel splice it through the sheets rather than sewing it on. The larks head is fine for what you're doing Sam.
excellent video
Very nice!
Sam I've been watching you since you set out from SoCal on Swedish Fish. I've owned many boats in my lifetime (and I've got fathoms on you) but one that is still close to my heart was my R23. In any event, I've been wanting to ask/suggest, can you pls time stamp the videos so we know when they were recorded. Or is there a reason you don't do that. Would be super helpful to getting our bearings straight on how far back they are in time. An understanding of the weather and all you know. Glad to hear you are snuggling the cold months with AE. She seems such an awesome beauty.
May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. “
Blessings Sam🍀
this one is so good, back for a replay, view 11,407... why knot?
The Cyclades (pronounced ‘Sickladeez’). Meaning ‘circular’.
Yeah that was kinda bugging me a bit. Not sure why. Maybe I'm anal? 🤷🏻♂️. si·kluh·deez
Alpine butterfly for the jib sheet, there’s a demo on RUclips how to tie one on to a clew
I’ll take a look at that knot. Thanks
Hi My friend, Time for a trim
Heat it and tap it together as well as shims maybe!
I’ve used bowlines for thirty years and have NEVER had one fail, and never had problem taking the off if needed. I’m very interested in soft shackles etc, but for that traditional line as a jib sheet, I don’t think you can go wrong. . .
I think I'd use an extra turn before tying the bowline; I'm thinking friction.
Again, 30 years and never had a knot failure. . .ocean sailing, racing, etc.@@tyrotrainer765
The second you jumped in the camera lens turned the whole planet into a little round water ball.
Use nylon washers on tiller
I'd try some JB Weld or MarineTex on that tiller bracket Sam.
Way Cool.
Nice🎉🎉🎉
if you even make it back to the east coast of the US. Maryland to be presis i wanna take you sailing on a skipjack built in 1906
Put that rail in the water ! That’s what sailing is all about. 😅
Don’t forget to go to charming Spetses, and hydra
Not very often u see Sam at the tiller 🙂
John Fowles was correct in stating that Greece is the most beautiful Country.
Did the grinding solve the winch handle issue? I have similar problem that I didn't pursue fix for yet. Needed very short ones to not interfere with lifelines, so went with cheap ones for now. Thanks for putting out videos every week!! Us landlocked folks need it! (NJ launch date... May 1... uhhggg.) -Jim
Yes it did
Looks like you had some Meltemi fun. Do you have a link to Annaleen's channel?
Sickladeez....
So where's her channel? I had no idea she sailed in winter, hope to meet you on the fjord some day.
Sam you need to look into Monty Python's Ministry of Silly Walks as perhaps a way to combat the loss of Sea Legs during extended stays ashore. 😅
I wonder how much different the cape Dory 28 is from the cape Dory 27. 🤔
Thanks for the real time update. Been figuring you musta been done by now.
What's your lady friend's YT channel?
Apologies, I don't know how to spell her name.
I've been curious if you are going to send that main sail back to have it cut down?
I can’t find Adeleen’s channel. Can you post a link?

For people that suffer from vertigo type stuff, they switched off at 9:55.
Yep, I don’t have vertigo, but the spinning 360 was painful for me.
Dude... Sea legs through chemistry. ( Dramamine )
What is the disc shaped thing on the right side of the cockpit bench. Sort of looks like hose reel, but I couldn’t quite make it out
ROUGH ONE
I could be wrong, but as an avid consumer of audiobooks, I believe it's pronounced sick luh deez
❤❤❤❤❤❤
👍👍
Perhaps you could explain to us sometime how you managed to stay in the Schengen zone for so many months in the year? And now you are in Norway? How did you achieve this?
Only time ashore counts for the time in the Schengen zone
link is .... Ann-Elin Synnes
Could someone please tell me the name of camera/lens Sam is using in those 360º shots? Thank you very much!
Same boat only the planetscape has been changed
Sam, if you suggest we check out other channels, how about giving us the link? Thanks…Have a great ‘vacation’!

As
As a sailor with 40 years of experience and a captain I found that in cruising it stresses the ring when you put the rail down.
I guess a boat like that if it tips and fills with water it sinks?
Perhaps the extra weight in the bottom would make the boat sit up.
Sick-la-dees
Had an American mate once called val d’isere = valdiser
See that you are back in Norway. Close to Kristiansand right? Would love to buy you a beer as a thanks for hours of sailing entertainment. 🤘🏻
I used to sail before but my kids did'nt like it so now it's campervan for a while. 😂
Working with boats tho, so get to be alot out on the blue. 🌊🛥️
Looking for a job while you are here?
fix that winch from the last vid?
Sam, can you discuss your health insurance situation in a video sometime? Traveling between so many countries and all.
IMG Global Medical Insurance
Silver without Creditable Coverage Annual Premium: 1,937.00 USD. Area of Cover: Worldwide. Deductible: 1,000.00 USD. Maximum Limit: 5,000,000.00 USD
That cheap winch handle will wear out quickly as the metal is very soft.
That’s how he rolls.
I should add I'm speaking as the owner of one, not just dismissing all budget purchases.
You suggest her channel, but no link?
At the end of video Sam mentions sailing in Venice with Analine or Anna Lee?? Does she have a channel? What is her name? There's no link... thanks..
Ann-Elin Synnes
@annelinsynnes You're welcome! 😅
Do you come back in Greece?
Ends in a roof ocean
Why didn't you take more reefs to prevent that much heel? Aren't you afraid of putting too much stress on your rigging?
If I reef too much, going to windward becomes impossible. Not worried about the rig. It can take it.
Are you going back to sailing in Florida now that winter is near?
Sam said he’s staying in Norway
