- A Plague Tale: Innocence is the best kind of surprise you can get in this industry: new IP, new premise, a little-known developer and no marketing hype. The quality of this title would smash all our expectations if we had any. This is a must play if you're a fan of the genre.

love the "don't skip this" series! please don't stop this :P
Of course he won't
So, don't skip this "don't skip this" series.
It's almost as if a well made, high quality product is far superior to a mediocre, reused and recycled one.
And like it doesn't matter how much money you have or how big your staff is, so long as you have a group of dedicated, creative, and talented people putting their hearts into the product.
Are you talking about razors? Way to really tie in the sponsor! ;)
Fwazangalang Entertainment don’t tell corporate, they might actually become artistically inspired
*cough cough* AC VALHALLA, COD *couch cough*
This game is how you introduce a strong female protagonist. She has to fight for everything she earns and shows true badassery in the face of near overwhelming odds. It’s amazing how this game blew up for these devs, and amazing to see Requiem coming into it’s own as a full blown triple A title. This studio has a very bright future ahead of it. And it really does show you can create something unique and it will resonate with people.
Finished the game yesterday, it was great, highly recommended for everyone interested in good characters and story. Also I liked the idea of the slingshot as a weapon, it's often overlooked by most games, you might say "it's a slingshot" to which I would say: "read your history, slingshots were used as weapons in hunting, skirmishes and even battles for thousands of years".
The story is dark and has elements of fantasy, it's medium fantasy, don't expect wizards running around flying in broomsticks but there are magical elements specially at the finale.
The characters were all great and I can't say anymore without spoilers
I think the term you're looking for is low fantasy.
It was a great game. I enjoyed the story and gameplay. You can tell it was inspired by The Last Of Us. Started playing the sequel and you can tell they improved on the gameplay mechanics and the story and graphics is more immersive.
Man, you looked grotesque before dollar shave club. Praise the lord for DSC

I see a lot of reviewers saying how the game has no "replay value" .
Why? Just because it's a linear story? What about a good movie? Does that not have "replay value" because it stays the same? I will 100% be playing through this a 2nd time and getting the platinum
It's also $45 NOT $60 so that's pretty welcomed
No replay value in the traditional video game sense. I get you.
@@SkillUp yea I did get what you were saying

i just played this game recently and it was REALLY good. easily a reccomend from me.
I'm currently at chapter 10 and I love this game.. OMG
Is it worth $40 still? That's what it is on the xbox store right now no sale. Should I play before the sequel in October?
@@alexwaller5603 if youre only option is xbox, i think this is worth $40 personally but realistically it will probably go on sale closer to the release of the sequel. the game isnt super long on its own and theres not a ton of replay value. You will absolutely want to play it before the sequel tho.

It is titles like 'Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice', 'NieR: Automata' and 'A Plague Tale' keeping me in touch with gaming. Thanks for reviewing this title, it deserves more attention!
Nier Automata was PAINFULLY boring. I dumped 15-20 hours into it because Skill Up hyped the crap out of saying it was the most underrated game and worth hours of fun. I spend 20 hours looking for a shred of fun but all it was, was super boring. Me and skill up have very diff taste apparently. His videos are well made and thoughtful but is opinion are not facts and often the opposite of mine. This is why I won't subscribe to the channel! I want my Nier Autoamata money back SKILLUP lol!!
@@michaelprochilo7945 "his opinion is not fact" no shit dumbass, you dont know what an opinion is?
though Hellblade didn't deserve a 9/10. More of a 7.5 or barely 8. It had good graphcis. The Fighting mechanics did feel alright even though it was easy by the end. But story was weak with the ending message being kill yourself if you have psychosis, so yeah wasn't as good as A plague tale, innocence.
@@michaelprochilo7945 I thought nier automata was great the combat was cool and i liked the chip system. But i thought the story was amazing. def up there with the last of us hard to say which one was a better story for me
Georg Martin Same here! NieR: Automata, Hellblade and witcher 3 are basically the three games that made the biggest impact on me, hopefully, Plague tale will be added to that list soon
i hadn't really looked this game up much for some reason, but i'm not even done with this video and i'm buying it. i LOVE story driven, railroaded adventures like this, and I especially love when its got a heavy focus on children growing up or "coming-of-age" stories, as its often a really interesting and usually relate-able story. then those graphics just sealed the deal. easily worth the price for a good 10-15 hours of beautiful environments with a tale that just keeps nudging you on.
*relatable
Agree with that. Mack at Worthabuy didn't considered it....worthabuy, but I found his review very cynical. A guy who rings a bell, who adores Quake and Doom, isn't the audience for this game. Still not sure it's better than Hellblade, which really stuck with me. Sauna is maybe the most memorable videogame character besides Clementine in The Walking Dead

Already finished it and was hoping you'd review it (even commented it in Rage2 review) just to give it exposure.
This game hit me out of nowhere, first mention i saw of it was day b4 release date.
I saw a trailer on PS Facebook page and I thought it was a PS4 exclusive, on the release day I found out it was available on Steam as well, and immediately bought it.
Loved every second of it, can't say i was ever less regretful about paying a full price for the game, well worth the money.
First thing I though when I saw trailer was, say it's on PC.
Ashelor Awesome glad u enjoyed it, I'm waiting for my copy in the post so I'm looking forward to playing it myself, I still prefer single player story driven games and once I saw a trailer for this game i wanted it as it looks like my kinda game

Watching the trailer a few months ago I almost teared up.
After your review, I am definitely purchasing it.
Just finished Requiem after playing innocence for the first time…. I was in awe of this story. I’m so sad it’s over. Such an amazing 2 games. DO NOT SKIP THESE GAMES
Is the second game better story telling wise? I just finished innocence and I had a blast but I had some problems with the ending. Not in particular how it ended but everything that was happening until then and how it happened if that makes sense.. Im defenetly playing I just dont want to set my expectations too high
Man this game's still incredibly underrated as of May 28th, 2019... I hope more and more people pick this up and appreciate the game for what it is
The setting alone is just about enough to sell me on this game. Like The Last Of Us irl. I actually get a bit of a TLOU vibe generally from what I see here, which is great.
This was spectacular! Not even the most popular channels do this type of review. Coughigncough.
I played the game and it was amazing. I love that you started this series, you've earn a sub!
Honestly man, Skillup is so good at what he does. Every review is very well researched and thought out. First one i watched was his Nier Automata review i think. Or warframe? I dont remember lol
If EA made this game, they would add a multiplayer mode with 6 DLC maps and loot boxes that give the player different pesticides
Very late this this review, but I just replayed Innocence in prep for Requiem's release in October. Such a wonderful game, and yet another great example of what happens when a game is made with lots of passion and a clear vision.

My favorite game this month. It's linear for sure but that chill and constant progression to the story and gameplay just made me play from start to end, kinda like God of War's progression.

I chose to play it in French, with English subs, for better immersion. Well, maybe the English soldiers who speak perfect French take you out of it for one of the chapters, but otherwise the voices and setting are truly marvelous. This game was a breath of fresh air in a mess of live services bullshit.
Ayy! A new review/story/documentary!
I’m wrapping up my first playthrough of this game now that it hit game pass and the sequel is coming here soon. I can’t believe I slept on this title for so long. I immediately switched the voice acting to French though and I will say, if you don’t mind the subtitles, this is absolutely the way to experience the story. I’m sure the English is serviceable, if not pretty good in most areas, but I haven’t heard a single line spoken in French that didn’t sell the emotions perfectly. That ranges from the main characters down to the npc thugs. Oh and also I really dig the gameplay. Cannot wait for the sequel.
Love this video series man! Best idea ever! Keep em coming 👌

Good review Fella from down unda. Question. Do you have ACG's tags in your video? You came up under the "never touch" search but you never say that and its now in the last 2 or 3 reviews tags with Wait for Sale and Rent showed up. Never saw that happen until Rage I think.
Just beat to the game thanks to Game Pass. Amazing game, looking forward to the sequel.
I only watched the first 3 mins because I want to experience this game for myself, great 3 mins though!
Getting a real Hellblade vibe from watching the reviews, So if yourself, ACG and Jim Sterling are all singing its phrase's, it's a buy for me.
Do people share video tags? He has ACG's tags in his video. Was weird to see this come up under buy, rent all of a sudden.
I have this game II got it the day it came out but I love people promoting it it's such a good game I love it so much
I remember playing the toy story 3 game when it came out. It was a wonderfully fun game and I thought all the quality came from it being a Disney IP and them taking a weird level of care with toy story. Now it appears that it was a joint effort. The game follows the toy story 3 story to a T however the biggest deviation occurs at the very end. In the movie this is the point where Andy and Bonnie play with the toys together. It's a short scene in the movie you get to see Andy put Woody on his back like he used to when he was a kid and it's very nostalgic to watch. But if you play the game it pulls on every emotional heartstring that has been built up mostly by the movie by letting you actually play through their playscape as the characters. It makes that last scene when Andy drives away all the more painful. It's very clear to me that Walt Disney had some input Asobo understood how to create an effective emotional payoff. I feel like a plague tale is a cultimation of every minor technique that they learned in their previous titles masterfully exhibited for all of us to enjoy.
And this post here helps prove why games are better than movies. You can feel allot more of what's going on and the story itself by actually existing in it. Movies will never replicate that
Played it with English voice acting at first then swittch to french I highly recommend playing it with french voice acting instead of English so mutch better, anyway brilliant review of an brilliant game :)

Just completed it two days ago absolutely loved it I think it’s the game of the year so far
I don't think this game deserves the reviews its been getting. The story is excellent, as is the voice acting, setting, and artistically driven atmosphere. However, the overall narrative is average when compared to the likes of Life is Strange or Everybody's Gone to the Rapture due its totally linear nature. The narrative is not driven by the player's curiosity and therefore unfolds in exactly the same way, both structurally and chronologically, each time you play. Also, the puzzles are kiddish, the AI is actually laughable, exploration is non-existent, and the silly boss fights totally break immersion (a giant French guy with a battle axe vs a 15 year old girl with a sling shot). Why go to the effort of making such an artistic and adult-themed narrative just to destroy it with child-like moments? In short, this would have made a much better film than it did a game, much like Hellblade.
YooooOo this game is fucking pretty holy shit
I'm so impressed what indie studios can do now. It's crazy, man. Just crazy.

Never played an Indie I did not like (same cant be said of AAA games due to Greed and Political Agendas over craft and strong stories) and I have played a lot of them over the past 35 years (most being over the last 3 years). This does look like yet another one to buy based on Letsplays and Trailers. Also when it comes to Indies, Game Studio is not a factor for me in buying like it is for AAA games so I will buy and play A Plague Tale in French with English Subtitles. Thanks for the good review.
This series just amazing. i just finished the game today and to be honest, this is far better than most of new AAA single player games in 2019. i just dont understand why all of big developers such as ubisoft and EA cant make a good single player game like this? or maybe they just dont want to? or maybe i'm just too old and still think that a linear MGS4 was brilliant? is anyone with me?
Absolutely loved this game probably my favorite game of 2019 soo far! Just glad I beat it before watching this just because you showed a few things I woulda wanted to experience first hand. None the less great review man keep up the fantastic work!
IGN gave this game a 7 out of 10. Almost didn't pick it up, I then watched your review and realised this is a game I would love. Guess what, I love this game. Never give a game a score. Scores can be misleading.

Think I will get this for the wife she loves story drive gaming it is one of her huge 3 pillars of enjoyment. Plus it is always nice to support the lesser known indi like studios in this age when 75% of all triple a games are either soulless sequels and prequels or worse yet loot box micro-transactions in full priced games with the 17 types of pre order bonuses.......
This is one I want very badly, unfortunately I'm saving for new PC parts, hopefully I can hold off 😂
While I wasn't a fan of the final hour of gameplay - which suddenly turns into a combat-heavy grind after 10 hours of tense stealth and thoughtful progression - the rest of the game makes it entirely worth the price you might spend on it. I bought it at release and was blown away for 99% of the experience.
dont want to spoil myself, so i wont be watching this, just running it without sound in the background so you get the view
but here, have a like!

I have to disagree on the lack of realism in places being a bad thing.
The rats are very clearly unrealistic from the very beginning, and that's very much on purpose for the thematic reasons you mentioned. And the settings getting less realistic in parts is also pretty cool. To me it seems like the game does an awesome job of balancing realism on the one hand with a kind of mythic retelling of the black plague on the other.
You are my first port of call for all reviews, love this series, so please do more. This game looks ace, Thanks
The amount of viewers who just found out about the game... Pathetic.
Can't imagine how unfairly the game would be ignored if Skill up didn't make a video on it. Open up your horizons a little people, AAA games made by EA, CDPR, Bethesda, capcom and Activision are not the only thing that exist.
Honestly, this is beautiful. The textures, lighting, all of it. I'm shocked a studio so small managed this.
Thank you for making this video. You made me play a wonderful game that I would've skipped if it wasn't for this recommendation.

The opening of the video just killed me 💀 I wasn't expecting that.🤣
SkillUp: "...this is a new concept..."

One problem: if you play the game in French, even the English soldiers speak French. There is no "authentic" voice mode.
I just beat the game myself. My goodness the shots were fantastically beautiful. This game made me fear rats on a level I never thought possible.

Visually, this straight up looks like a AAA game. If someone said this was a new naughty dog game, I would probably believe them.
Can't wait to see what this studio does next. 👍
For a game that puts stealth ahead of combat the combat in this game is really good everything just has so much force to it there are plenty of games when you fight with real weapons that don't feel as good as slinging a rock at someone's skull in this game
