    Gotta respect the writers for having the courage to have a sad/bad ending. Everyone wants a happy ending but things don't always end that way. Sometimes a sad ending fits better.

      I gotta admit that the ending crushed my soul and left me sad asf. BUT, it's not an obvious ending, and as the games was already unique in its own way, the ending just added a huge extra value to it, with the message that even if you try your hardest, sometimes you need to know when to stop. It's harsh, but that's real, true and it made the great game we all enjoyed. One of the best plots I've experienced are indeed in A Plague Tale games :)

    Correction: Arnaud was a knight and fought alongside the count, in a battle the Count abandoned Arnaud and his squad including Arnaud's son which led to his son's death, for that reason Arnaud holds the count responsible and seeks revenge.
    Its mentioned in the final fight between Arnaud and the Count when he mentions his son to which Arnaud replies "Do not speak of him, his blood is on your hands" then Count says "it was war!" Arnaud replies "You abandoned us to the enemy"

      @@Avantime That's human emotions for you. They aren't really rational. They never were. You cannot really know what goes on behind the head of another. One moment someone is all nice to you the next he tries to kill you with a brick. The opposite can also happen when the motivation of the person changes through circumstances.
      It just goes to show that his revenge for his son and his hatred for the Count way overshadowed the feelings he held for a little girl. He saw Hugo's magical-like powers and got tempted using them to do what had been out of reach for him this far. All he had to do to get his hands on this power, was holding his hands to slay a little girl. She was just a little inconvinience belonging to the deal he stroke with Hugo.
      I can see Hugo hugging his legs and beg Arnaud to save his sister while promising to do whatever he wants in the heat of the moment and Arnaud having seen his power jumping on the occasion. The rest were unplanned feelings blossoming and maturing over time.
      It only feels rushed to us because we didn't really get to see how this allianz came to pass through Amicia's black-out and us not really knowing anything about the man named Arnaud. Thus, it caught us by surprise just as intended and woke the interest in us players to know more about Arnaud and why he did an 180 suddenly. I don't think it was badly written.

    The Ironic thing in the series is. Amicia has doom many Inoccent people to die with her knowing it, by always clinging on the hope Hugo can be cured, while on the other hand when Hugo realise the water can't heal him he was soo depressed, he just want everything in his life to be over, but Amicia keep draging what basically a living WMD around for the Vain hope of curing Hugo. In the first game Amicia doesn't know Hugo pretty well since he was born, but throught this Journey the bonds between the two grews to the points where in the second game, Amicia goals to cured Hugo has become more and more of an Obsessions. The truth has been written on the wall and told many times in Second game that whatever she do, Hugo is doomed but Amicia refuse to accept it. Some games doesn't but still, because of the investment they put into the story, characters and all the aspects concerning the formentioned it's a good game on my list, and a few of those has really managed to make an impression on me. Talking about the games that has that "little extra" not like a very good game, like cyberpunk or gta5 which I will say is very entertaining but didn't have that.. extra.

    I absolutely love both games and I understand why they went with this ending. To me personally though, this ending does feel really unrewarding the whole journey Hugo and amicia made to live a happy life, amicia went through all the struggle to keep Hugo alive and in the end it was all in vain, and Hugo tried to cling on to hope he would get healed, even when he got disappointed so often. As I said I understand why they ended their story the way they did, possibly having to do with the reincarnation theory, and I still loved every part of it. But for amicia and Hugo themselves I hated to see that heartbreaking ending.

      The whole point of the game was that it was that them living happily was never going to happen. You could sympathise with them wanting to save Hugo, but from an outside perspective it should have been obvious that they where ultimately doing more harm and it was never going to have a happy ending for them.
      The vision at the end was Hugo showing Amicia that she couldn't fight this and needed to accept that her role wasn't to protect the carrier, but to protect everyone else from the macula.

    I'm pretty sure its in regard to blood relation as to why and who the Macula choses. Basically, Hugo is most likely related to Basilius and it was why Hugo was able to dream of the island where Basilius died.

    I believe the island dream sequence's Phoenix is actually foreshadowing to something stretching more than just the entire game of Requiem. At the very end we get the glimpse of the macula awakening once again in the age of medicine and science and finally being able to understand germ theory and the spread of diseases. If you consider that "the pond" is not real place in space, but instead a place in time, then it starts to make more sense. The remedy for the macula (The Pond) can only reasonably be found in the future, since that is when scientific advances were so developed to be able to create cures for so many diseases. To add to this, bodies of water are what were first tested with the invention of the microscope. And a petry dish is what is used to see into the microscopic world. In other words, a tiny pond.
    It's really brilliant symbolism and shows the foresight that the team could be setting up for the last entry in the Plague series. I could be wrong, but the idea of The Pond being symbolic of the petry dish observations of microscopic diseases seems to resonate with the very last scene of the game.

She handle herself well in combat in the first game, so... what happened? Guards overwhelmed her? I suppose that.

But reflecting about the story and it's focus i also realise that they lean more in to Science and Alchemy than Magic so we don't really know 100% and maybe the 3rd game will fully reveal it. maybe the series adaptation will too..

    The irony of it all is the Amicia and many others spent so much time and effort, putting their lives on the line, just in the end for Amicia to kill him herself.

      We can guess a pattern. Where the first one was 800 years ago. This game takes place in the14th century. Ergo, 1300 + 800 = 2100 ish. Which also makes sense as clearly the baby at the end of the game is on something electronic. Putting it into modern times. Also, at the end Amecia is laying hints out to the next Protector/Carrier. We would likely be exploring her works. And if you add in this is a genetic line, we could even get the same voice actors but with new characters which would be interesting. And possible flashbacks (if Hugo's dreams were actually memories).

    Thanks for this video! Although I loved this game, I'm still confused about a bunch of things like how the Macula works, and what the actual cure for it really is...like, what should the protagonists have done? I apologize in advance for this extra long comment...
    The first game showed that even with Hugo comfortable at home, he was sick, and the rat plague was already starting (i.e. Amicia's dog getting killed by rats). He was also happy and content at the Red City when they arrived, although suddenly felt bad without anything triggering emotional distress.
    I also wonder if it's fair to say that Hugo "brought" the plague to the Red City by going there since it seems clear that the plague was well underway before they even got there. Authorities had all the time to isolate the sick, blackout information, and tally the dead. I think the same could be said about La Cuna, which was the epicenter of the Justinian plague. The slavers already knew about the rats, and were actively trying to attract them.
    How does the Macula work in terms of time? Amicia seems to think she could find the next carrier within her lifetime. I also wondered if the Macula was dormant after the Justinian plague because it was sated, or because subsequent carriers over hundreds of years either died early, or lead relatively stress-free lives that didn't trigger the final threshold, or were able to resist the Macula.
    What is the actual "cure" or solution to the Macula? Would a safe, happy environment for the carrier be enough? Like, maybe the early symptoms and a smaller epidemic of rats might still happen, but a full-blown plague could be avoided if the carrier were kept safe and happy? People have said they should have just killed Hugo early on, but clearly the Order wasn't a group of assassins who went around killing Macula carriers, so that probably wasn't a practical solution for the Macula...
    And finally, on a much smaller note, what's the deal with those beekeepers in the beginning? Do we just brush that off as Medieval era craziness? Haha.
    Again, thanks for the video. :)

    • @N0obusMaximus
      @N0obusMaximus 2 года назад +8

      I believe killing Hugo early on would not have stopped the Macula. As you mentioned, rats were coming out of the ground and killing everything in site at the beginning of the first game, before Hugo had the ability to control the rats that way. Only when Hugo merged with Macula at the end of the 2nd game, only then would killing Hugo stop the Macula, at least for the next 800 years or so. So it was Amicia's job, as the protector, to keep Hugo alive, until that final stage.
      Her dream of living a peaceful life with Hugo would've just postposed the inevitable, because it's impossible to live a life free of anger and stress. The Macula behaves like a virus that can stay dormant in your body for years, until you have a stressful event, which causes your immune system to weaken. The virus seizes that opportunity and attacks. In the case of the Macula, it's a supernatural virus that can control infected rats on its own, but it needs to merge with a human host, the carrier, in order to achieve its most powerful form and block out the sun, its one weakness.

    • @brianthebroken
      @brianthebroken 2 года назад +1

      @@N0obusMaximus Hm, yes, I think that's probably how it works. Thank you.
      Although my hopeful side thinks maybe living in peace could prevent the most severe aspects of the Macula. Perhaps there would still be some rats, and maybe Hugo would eventually die before reaching adulthood, but a full-blown plague would be avoided. I don't think he has to be completely free of stress or anger. Just free of the type of stress that comes with getting tortured, or his sister being threatened or killed. The two biggest changes came when his mother was murdered, and when he thought Amicia was dead. Also important to note that Hugo was a gentle soul, only pushed to murderous rage in the most extreme situations (not like that goat that surprised him suddenly got devoured by rats, lol.). So yeah, maybe the job of the Protector is to keep him alive long enough so he could sacrifice himself willingly somehow. I'm just leaning towards a more optimistic interpretation.

    I really hope the reincarnation theory is holding true and that a new game will be in progress building on it. I would also be really curious how this story would depict itself in a present day setup. The protector would most likely use guns and chemistry and whatnot. Who would it be Amicia is reincarnated next? Will all of this just remain wishful thinking? I hope not. I hope they make this game!
    Of course this time they better not make the ending the very same. Alone for story purposes they cannot use it TWICE! But a modern setup might be a greater challenge than the middle ages for the developers since people have so many more possibilities. In the end I just want to know what happened to Amicia and the rest. Only another game can give me that answer.

      Amicia and Hugo's story would most likely be used as important historical context just like how Ezio and Altair especially are viewed. They could even have Amicia as the historical protagonist and a new protagonist in the modern day setting and these 2 interchange similar to what we have in GTA 5 in order to tell the story.
      They might not even have to depict a 21st century. They could easily set the sequel in the 30's or 40's.

    Loved, loved this game.
    I wondered the whole game if there would have been a different outcome if Amicia hadn’t given herself over to rage and revenge so much. So many times she went on rampages instead of fleeing - no doubt Hugo was influenced by that.
    The entire buildup to finding Bacilious is heartbreaking - Hugo comments the entire journey underground that he wants to leave and doesn’t want to go further. Amicia is so focused on saving Hugo that she seemed blind to his other needs - thus, exposing him to the grim corpse of Bacilious.
    She definitely seemed to lean into the “risk millions to save the one” side of things.
    If they make a third game I’ll probably play it, but I’m not sure how the modern day setting will be. I fear it will be too jarring compared to previous games - plus( the medieval setting is just so cool.

    • @513Anonimka

      I was thinking about it too! Because to me it doesn't look like Basilius was killed, more like he died "naturally" (if that's the right word). And since the rats were there, nobody wouldn't be able to even get there to kill him, bacause his protector that he loved was dead too! (unlike when Hugo let Amicia pass the rats).
      Possible plot hole? We get the info that the Macula took over Basilius and that it "condemned them all", but that should've caused the Nebula like with Hugo.

    • @blaabaaful
      @blaabaaful 2 года назад +8

      Maybe the place that was build to hold Basilius and the Macula inside did its job and they couldn't feed/feed their host with energy and he died because of that? It looked like the rats couldn't breach the walls or maybe since Basillius was locked away in a dark underground facility the rats/host were disoriented and was only consumed by anger/hate/fear not really giving the rats some commands but just to protect the host? Just guessing though

      Aelia were said to bash into basil's prison. But because there were way too many guards surrounding her, she unfortunately failed. Which angers and saddened basil.

    • @jayjune132
      @jayjune132 2 года назад +3

      I think the macula eventually feeds off the hosts energy, soul and life force. It's mentioned at the start of the game that when the final stage is reached he will die. Basilius gave into the macula and the room would have contained the nebula from reaching its full potential. However he died because eventually the macula possibly feeds off of you. Similar to being angry or sad if u dont have enough fight in you then the macula can't survive either. Eventually one will have no strength left. When the hosts eventually dies then everything collapses. No one was there to help basilius like Amicia did for Hugo to release him. I think the plague went on until his strength and energy faded. He is also locked in a room to contain all this. There is no where for the nebula to expand on go possibly feeding off of him even faster to survive. Thus the pods in his room they were hibernating for centuries. Another alternative is after the macula bring defeated killed basilisk realizing he is trapped and has no where to go and will die anyway. Just my thoughts.

    Sorry, had been playing Darktide and this came to head

    Hugo and Amicia story is more like the 1720 plague than the 1347 plague.
    541 AD Justinian plague (videogame) - 541 AD Justinian plague (REAL LIFE EVENT)
    1347 Macula plague (videogame) - 1347 The Black Death Plague (REAL LIFE EVENT)
    1720 The Great Plague of Marseille (REAL LIFE EVENT).
    (Taken from a website)
    Western Europe’s last major outbreak of medieval plague began in 1720, when a “mortal distemper” seized the French port city of Marseille. The disease arrived on a merchant ship called the Grand Saint Antoine, which had picked up infected passengers during a journey to the Middle East. The vessel was quarantined, but its owner-who also happened to be Marseille’s deputy mayor-convinced health officials to let him unload its cargo. Plague-carrying rat fleas soon spread across the city, sparking an epidemic. People died by the thousands, and the piles of bodies on the streets grew so large that convicts were conscripted to dispose of them. In nearby Provence, “plague walls” were even built to try to and contain the infection, but it still spilled over into southern France before finally disappearing in 1722. By then, it had killed roughly 100,000 people.

    Personally I liked the first game better than this one. I feel as though the first one really captured an atmosphere and never lost it, beautiful but dark visuals and the perfectly done French accents were awesome. It also was a beautiful story all around. The second game just didn’t recapture that feeling for me, but still an amazing story and game regardless. In short, first game is in the top 3 of my favorite games, the second was an amazing experience.

    Played the game, everyone loved it, I loved it too but felt very dissappointed, Sometimes I wish the ended the story at the 1st game since that had a very happy ending. This one feels like tragedy and tragedy. Young boy and girl dissappointed again and again.... The end journey felt pointless...

    Awesome games, the latest one being a GOTY contender. More than the future story, I'd love to play and live Aelia's and the previous carrier's story.

    Damn.. such a sad ending for Arno. Sets out to avenge his son, cheats death multiple times, just to get a chest piece from the same man.
