I feel sorry for Dan having to put up with such a bratty snob, who pays for your makeup? Clothes? Room and board? God damn food? Honestly if I ever become a father I’d want to be Dan.
Dan Connor was great, but I'd rather be Rob Petrie from the Dick VanDyke show. He had the "perfect" Life. He was secure and well off doing a job that he loved (a comedy writer), handsome, funny, fit, he had true friends who were a hoot, he got to be married to Laura (Mary Tyler Moor), and she did most of the work of raising Ritchie. If only not for those damn separate twin beds. I guess nobody's life is perfect! 😉🤭
Yeah, she literally bounced. (I think Sarah Chalke was just a bouncy girl. She was kinda bouncy on Scrubs, too.) Her bouncing kinda lent to making Becky's character seem like she was going through a "fake" phase. She was faking happiness and therefore coming off as ditzy. The over the top fakeness and vapidity of it all kinda helped the plausibility of Becky being played by a whole different actress. Becky was faking being a bubbly bouncy party girl, but deep down she was a depressed alcoholic. It actually makes perfect sense.
As the oldest of three in my family who made a series of mistakes in my teens, I related a lot to Becky over the years. I was also at times a total brat! Fortunately things turned around for me!
I relate to Becky, too. I once had promise but I threw it all away making dumb decisions chasing after a narcessist who never loved me. I was a brat, too. But I haven't turned my life back around yet. I'm still a loser. I'm too much like Becky. 😕
Am I the only one who preferred Becky over Darlene??? I thought she was spoiled and had tantrums but Darlene used to needlessly pick at her for no reason other than Becky had the “normal” high school girl tendencies and Darlene figured she was special or “different” for being a tomboy lol 😂 What hit it home for me was that episode where Becky (understandably) blew up at Roseanne for yelling at her for writing Darlene’s paper. Like they NEVER hyped Becky up for all the good things she did the way they did Darlene. If Darlene did a “normal” girl thing it was like a freakin parade in the house lol but w/Becky they were just like 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
THANK YOU! Kids don't just lash out like that for no reason. When Becky use to try to be a good kid, they all just mocked her and called her a nerd. I think Rosanne was jealous of Becky for being smarter, prettier, and of course younger than her and having a shot at a better life than she ever had, so that's why she always mocked her and undermined Becky. (The same way she and her mother, Beverly, treated Jackie.) Rosanne mocked and undermined Darlene, too, but she identified more with Darlene for being "different" and she wasn't as threatened by Darlene. So the mockery with Darlene was more like some twisted sense of comerodery. She encouraged Darlene to mock and undermine Becky too. Rosanne was always actually proud of Darlene's mean sarcastic digs at Becky. Becky handles things like Jackie handles things- being all wound up and lashing out, becoming addicted to booze and sex and being a mess. Darlene handles things more like Rosanne: a snarky, blasé, covert control freak. Toxic, all around. That's why so many people think the show is so real- because so many people are toxic! But they're funny, and dammit, it's true: they sure are realistic.
Having just rewatched several of these episodes, I have to admit I see things a bit differently where they argument about Dan 'blowing it' is concerned. His clearly unreliable old friend comes around again, says hey, let's go into business, and Dan decides to put his family in financial instability only for the guy to back out and leave some extra cash as an apology. Then Dan spends time working hard on a new business in a town that doesn't get a lot of upper middle class people coming in, and for a year makes very little progress, only for it all to come tumbling down. While Mark was clearly not a smart guy, and I don't really blame his having to leave on Dan, everything else was his fault. Becky made a lot of that situation about her but she wasn't wrong about how it blew up in the family's face.
@@VictorFerri-g7eI agree. Landford seemed like a town without a lot of opportunities, so who's buying bikes? But that put a second mortgage on the house would have ended it for me.
@CrosbytheFirst Thanks! Absolutely, Lecy Goranson was great. Looking back over the show, I just love the sheer amount of tantrums Becky threw. She's an amazingly bratty character, LOL.
First (original) Becky was a smart ass, and I can't relate to her at all because I was NEVER like that. I didn't much care for her when she was on, I was always more into the adults anyway. However, to me anyway, the actress leaving changed the realistic family comedy show into, I don't know, trash, I guess. They tried accommodating for Becky's absence by bringing in other characters. By that time, for me, it didn't work. And 2nd Becky was all wrong for the part to me. She was suddenly air-headed, not a very good actress, and I generally do not like recasts. Original Becky was a great actress. She was very believable at being a little brat, and then a spoiled, entitled teen. When I watch reruns now on tv, I don't watch the episodes after Original Becky leaves.
Lecy Goranson is one of the my favorite television actress' of all time through the '80s, She's the apple of my eye, apple of my heart and apple blossoms she's my sunshine valentine, Forever in '89 (I Love You Lecy)! I Love You! More Dramatic and Romantic or family roles should be ongoing straight to your lonely empty heart! Yep. Lecy
@@sdlock83that makes sense Becky is definitely the new version of her Dad and Aunt Jackie Darlene is definitely the new version of her Mom because both Roseanne and Darlene were Sarcastic and I guess she would also be the new version of her Dad since she loved sports in both Roseanne and The Conners and DJ is definitely Roseanne he even kinda looked like Roseanne
I know a lot of people dislike what they've done with The Conners lately but I like that they finally got adult Becky to admit that not only was Mark to blame for her shortcomings but she is also to blame on her failures in life and that her parents only had the best intentions for her.
I love Becky now because I understand her, but I hated her when I watched as a kid. She was born into a life that forced her to settle for less than her potential. She just wanted to escape but she got stuck repeating her parent's mistakes instead. The scene when she finds out about her nonexistent college fund breaks my heart every time.
@Oz Lee, f that. She's a spoiled brat, Her mom and dad did everything they could for her with what they had. I remember Dan taking some expensive shoes back so Roseanne can buy a expensive dress for her for a dance. And at that time in the 90's $75 bucks was pricey for a working class family. My husband came from dirt poor family, worked since a teen and NEVER once asked for money from his parents because they couldn't. He got through school on his own, his own merit. Scholarships, working hard. Becky was smart and an A+ student. She gave that up for sex. Yeah that's right, she rather run away and marry her loser boyfriend. No don't feel sorry for her at all. Her parents did everything they could w what they had. She just didn't appreciate anything, spoiled entitled little b. She couldn't see that how hard working they were?? Her disrespect toward Dan (such a great dad) saying you lost everything lost everything dad, it's all your fault! If I had spoken to my dad that way?? Hell no.
I know, right.. also, back in the day when Mark was still alive, she had expressed an interest into going into the medical profession in some capacity. they could have had her do that.. be a nurse, or a physical therapist something like tht..
They really did screw Becky over tho. Thus why she ran to marry mark he was all she had bu that time. She got straight A's.. started filling out collage apps. And boom finds out it's no money and she cant go to collage and make something outta herself.. I'd be pissed 2 if I wanted to go to collage.

Becky always reminds me of one of my sisters. She always acted just like that, she STILL acts like it and she's almost thirty with three kids. She gets everything handed to her and when she's told "no", she screams and yells and cries, complaining that she never gets anything and her life is horrible. She got everything.
That one about his business was a very low blow and very unnecessary; she reminds me of Carmen from George Lopez. He fought for his dream, and right as he's clearing the ashes, she comes in and essentially throws it all back into his face IN ADDITION to blaming her situation entirely because of him. Man. It's a bit difficult empathizing with characters like her.
I understand she's a rebellious teenager going through the "I hate my parents" lifestyle like most teenagers do at that time, but she really is inconsiderate and only cares about herself. Maybe because she felt left out when the parents paid more attention to Darlene with her depression, and Dj for being the youngest with innocent flaws as he grew up to make him feel less different. Also the fact that Roseanne could be a negative influence with her attitude towards others making Becky think it's okay too. However, Becky had little to no morals about what was right or wrong in benefit to her family or anyone around her besides Mark who has that rebellious look and personality too. Mark is all Becky had a connection with when she was desperate for attention. Then she regrets it after her time of young marriage and living in a trailer she realized how bad her life was because of what she ended up with.
This part is like such a fact of life my very God.I feel pitty for the dad though .Us women tend to identify more with our dads but then again thats just my opinion.
Hmm... the tv _Roseanne_ seemed very laid-back when it came to disciplining _Becky,_ because according to _Jennifer Pentland,_ when she was a teenager, the real _Roseanne_ shipped both her & her sister to some type of reform school, juvenile center, wilderness survival camp so her & new hubby _Tom Arnold_ wouldn't have to deal with them. Go figure.
Incidentally, *Jennifer Pentland* was portrayed by *Danielle Harris* in the 1994 TV movie _Roseanne: An Unauthorized Biography._ *Harris,* of course, played *'Molly Tilden'* in Season 5 of _Roseanne_ and is perhaps best known as *'Jamie Lloyd'* in the _Halloween_ film franchise.
The second Becky did not bring the right energy to the character. She was too sweet and felt way out of place in the family. The first Becky was hands down better!

And them providing for our needs, and not our wants, is really all that is required of our parents, don't you think?
@@themaggattack I like to think those twin beds got pushed together from time to time. :D
This show had a lot of great actors
Becky #2 bounced every time she began walking. The original Becky was the best.
Changing Lanes what do you mean by that ?
Changing Lanes both Beckies were good.
Yeah, she literally bounced. (I think Sarah Chalke was just a bouncy girl. She was kinda bouncy on Scrubs, too.)
Her bouncing kinda lent to making Becky's character seem like she was going through a "fake" phase.
Girl should've been on the track team with how much she takes off running when she doesn't get her way.
Should have been more supportive of her family who tried very hard to support her
pretty good acting
I love this show
I didn't watch the show in its heyday. I missed out. Really incredibly good acting/writing.
Am I the only one who preferred Becky over Darlene??? I thought she was spoiled and had tantrums but Darlene used to needlessly pick at her for no reason other than Becky had the “normal” high school girl tendencies and Darlene figured she was special or “different” for being a tomboy lol 😂
What hit it home for me was that episode where Becky (understandably) blew up at Roseanne for yelling at her for writing Darlene’s paper.
Darlene had that annoying little sister syndrome that wanted all the attention
Now this a real family tv show that never gets old
0:45 Becky looks like she said something different than "drop dead"
Every time I see intense moments like that I'm like, "Damn! Where are those blooper reels!!!!???" 😂😂😂
Heck I wished somebody would fart in those moments to cut some of the tension.
It was hard watching Roseanne say goodbye to Becky
Becky is such a toxic character. She reacts strictly off of hormonal impulse or consideration for others.
Becky was so self centered. Still is on the Connors.
He went after his dream. Why would you remain in the matrix? Oh; you aren't yet awake are you?
@@aaronjones8156
That's got nothing to do with Dan trying to navigate a mine field just to chase a dream
Dan should've known his bike shop wouldn't last in Lanford
@@VictorFerri-g7eI agree. Landford seemed like a town without a lot of opportunities, so who's buying bikes? But that put a second mortgage on the house would have ended it for me.
This is such a nice house looking at it from a 2020s perspective. I wish I could live like this as "working class".
@CrosbytheFirst Thanks! Absolutely, Lecy Goranson was great. Looking back over the show, I just love the sheer amount of tantrums Becky threw. She's an amazingly bratty character, LOL.
That's when a back hand is in order
There were soo many times she should've been slapped!! Absolutely loved it when Dan dissed her and stopped talking to her!😁
Lecy Goranson is one of the my favorite television actress' of all time through the '80s, She's the apple of my eye, apple of my heart and apple blossoms she's my sunshine valentine, Forever in '89 (I Love You Lecy)! I Love You!
More Dramatic and Romantic or family roles should be ongoing straight to your lonely empty heart! Yep. Lecy
This is why I kind of hate Beckys character though it's entertaining! Being horrible to her parents and everything!
Becky took after Dan and her aunt Jackie while Darlene took after Roseanne.
What about DJ who do you think he took after
@@torquoisegeorges9439 I think he took after Roseanne.
@@torquoisegeorges9439 Becky got Jackie's deep speaking voice lol!
@@sdlock83 true 😆
My daughter went through the same shit. Girls are tuff. Best show ever written
I couldn’t stand Becky! She was so annoying, hot tempered and spoiled.
Aaron L I agree. I saw an episode today when she asked about a college fund. My heart broke for her, especially knowing how her life turned out later.
Aaron L No Becky was a terrible person and honestly, how she treated others made her situation karma.
Many of us didn’t have a college fund and managed to get an education. She gave up..
Darlene: 'Becky, you're a selfish, inconsiderate, spoiled little brat.' The best summary of Becky ever.
Becky was everybody's least favorite character, but she taught us that trying to be popular wasn't everything and could ruin your life in the end
no I loved Becky she was one of My Favorite Characters on Roseanne and she is My Favorite Character on The Conners
becky is the only character that make roseanne as if it were belong to a family drama genre and not comedy.
They really did screw Becky over tho. Thus why she ran to marry mark he was all she had bu that time. She got straight A's.. started filling out collage apps. And boom finds out it's no money and she cant go to collage and make something outta herself.. I'd be pissed 2 if I wanted to go to collage.
You Know I love this show Cause it was a bout A blue collar Working class family that everybody could relate to But After the lotto win Which turned out to be a Dream it just went Down hill but im still trying to get in to the connor
It did not turn out to be a dream, dumbass.
I'm pretty sure everybody hated Becky.
I honestly like Sarah Chalke's Becky more. Sarah is the better actress ...and this may just be me...but when Sarah played Becky she seemed a lot more mellow and calmer in her arguments than Lech did.
...ummm, I meant Lecy :)
Karuminu2 I loved hating original Becky she was definitely better than second Becky, yeah she was a bitch but that was the character she put the dis in dis functional
yeah she was a huge bitch but she played the bitch really well. second becky didnt have that edge to her. by the time second becky got a part on scrubs she had really improved as an actress at least
shayne gallerneault I agree. She was great on Scrubs but she didn't quite cut it on Roseanne. She tried too hard to either be snarky or extra sweet. And is it just me, or was she extra bouncy when she walked..lol
HATE TO SAY IT.. I was sorta of like this, but for different reasons.. but I grew up, learned my lesson... I cherish all the love, advice and help my parents give me.. in this show .. technically becky was 2 yrs younger than me... TY ROSEANNE..... your show help ~
The ending though XD
I like the one when Becky cuts the cheese
good work I love it
Becky always reminds me of one of my sisters. She always acted just like that, she STILL acts like it and she's almost thirty with three kids. She gets everything handed to her and when she's told "no", she screams and yells and cries, complaining that she never gets anything and her life is horrible. She got everything.
Rebeckah Smith but Becky is too protected
Is her name Karen???
We all have a family member like that
Becky, the master of doors.
My favorite chapter.
Love this character
Original Becky was way better than New Becky.
My mom would’ve killed me if I had acted or spoke to her like Becky. Black moms don’t play none of that.😂
The 90s were a magical time
If I was that mouthy to my parents...my bottom would be so red!
Becky sure loved slamming doors..................
And chairs
I still cry this one.2020.Peeero papi no es asiii no.Maaami si.Podran pasar años y de la serie uno aun aprende.....LAW.
Cassy Francis she was not just handed
1:48 Damn!! This was a very sad, melancholy scene. And its a television show. But it hit hard 😭
I feel like the whiny brat is Roseanne was Becky but in the Conner’s is Darlene
Why does this make me feel so much better when I'm having bad days haha. She's so histrionic it makes everything feel fine.
I effin' hated that Becky character.
Shows like this make me glad I decided to never have children.
This part is like such a fact of life my very God.I feel pitty for the dad though .Us women tend to identify more with our dads but then again thats just my opinion.
Becky cut the cheese
She played a good spoiled brat
Spare the rod, spoil the child. They definitely needed to handle her and they failed miserably even after she grew up.
Lecy is such an amazing actress.
She didn't have much choice dealing with the poverty level of growing up in that survival situation
Hmm... the tv _Roseanne_ seemed very laid-back when it came to disciplining _Becky,_ because according to _Jennifer Pentland,_ when she was a teenager, the real _Roseanne_ shipped both her & her sister to some type of reform school, juvenile center, wilderness survival camp so her & new hubby _Tom Arnold_ wouldn't have to deal with them.
And she still went through problems especially the alcohol problems in The Conners
The second Becky did not bring the right energy to the character. She was too sweet and felt way out of place in the family. The first Becky was hands down better!
That's Teens and most adults today..
First 13 seconds killed me
0:26 Dan: "Do you have any idea what we're going through?"
Becky: "Do you have any idea what *I'M* going through?!"
That's all you need to know, folks.
You just now figured that out
