Reaper's learning curve is so infuriating. Something so basic as setting your playback and record devices should be more obvious and easy to find. Damn them! It shouldn't take having to look all over the place or look for a tutorial. Thanks for the help.
No, the Faderport can only control the transport, the mixer channels, and switch be tween setups. so the only thing you could do is adjust the level of an effects bus, or channel volume and panning, and automation for all that stuff. The Novation Nocturn does what your asking about in controlling any effect/plugin.

Is your FaderPort WORKING NOW as a control surface? According to all of the Reaper info I've read, you MUST enable control surfaces to be used (it's recommended you check "control surface" only.) When you click the "enabled" button 2 options are available: 1) Enable for MIDI 2) Enable for Control Surface only. I have tried to get three different control surfaces to work with Reaper without success! If it works without enabling for Control Surface - that's something Reaper should know about and spread the word!

i hve a problem: I just downloded reaper v6.13 and wanted to install new js plugin. It doesnt detect it when i go to the ,,scan for new plugins option,, so I figured I might have it installed in the wrong path. So I wanted to click on the audio device thing in the top right corner. But everytime I do this, it changes to ,,audio device closed,, and no.matter what I do, it keeps hppening. Ive tried everything. reinstalling reaper, rebooting my windows pc (windows 10), checking my usb connections from my interface and so on... the weird thing is, is that my interface is recognized via the pc, meaning i can runa youtube audio from the pc to the interface tommy monitors but at the same time, reaper says the device is closed.... any suggestions? I also have reinstalled the drivers for my 18i20 Focusrite, but it still doesn work

Hotep, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have found it very helpful. I actually have set up my MPK Mini 2 up with my Essentials software. I have gotten as far as putting together drum kits and building keygroup sequences, I'm stuck there. I can't play both the drums and the keygroup together. When I put down my keys and play it back, every pattern that i record with the drums plays with the instrument I have chosen for the keygroup. I don't believe I should even delve into Reaper until I have a complete understanding of how to record on the Essentials "DAW". Am I right?

check to make sure your outputs are set correctly, first from your audio device settings and then from your master track, sometimes the master track isn't routed to the right place.
The buffer size you need is greatly tied to your cpu performance, the larger/longer your buffer size the more latency(delay in the audio playback) but if your buffer is too short it causes problems with audio playback, i can make a video but i wont be able to for like a week. Hi Jamal, I actually just got everything setup. I believe I am jumping the gun though. I dont know how to work the MPC Essentials yet. I have loaded wobble and hybrid into it but i dont see the learn mode. I can play but I dont have the understanding, yet about how you choose instruments and such...
i looked up some pics of that board and theres no usb or anything on the back, you it looks like you need some sort of adapter to get the output of the board into the computer
well you need a way to get the digital out into your computer, so you need something that will take the spdif or aes connection from the back of the unit and convert that to usb.
Robin Laurenssen I managed to fix it. On the recording track, choose input you are using on your solo. As an example, if your mic is plugged in input 2, then choose input 2 on the recordeng track.
I've use usb cable connected to my guitar with pc.used asio driver in reaper,when i play guitar the sound seem to be input but i couldn't get it output.I mean no sound is coming from my speaker(checked ,speakers were working).Please HELP ANYBODY!
I have a doubling effect when I am using my focusrite i4. When I do record monitoring on, there is a latency issue and I can hear the clean as well as the amp distortion at the same time and it's extremely annoying.
That's where the double effect is coming from. If I turn off direct monitoring on my I4, and enable monitoring on in reaper I don't get any sound (I've messed with the preference option every which way) If I turn on direct monitoring on the i4 and off in reaper I hear one guitar but I can't hear any effect with the amp modeling software I'm using whilst recording. If I turn both enable monitoring on both my i4 and in reaper I get the doubled sound.
+Crystal Cranium you should be able to hear the signal with all your effects with direct monitoring disabled and record monitoring in reaper enabled. not sure why you cant hear anything with monitoring in reaper :/
