Trivia tidbit: This song was released in 1975 as a *"Single"* under the *"Elton John Band"* band because this song was written for Billy Jean Kings team tennis team named the "Philadelphia Freedom" It was later placed on Elton's Greatest Hits Volume II. It was recorded in 1974 in between takes for the Capitan Fantastic Album, hence years later it was placed as a bonus song on that album also. But, this was released in 1975 as a single only. I do not think they knew it would hit #1, but since 1976 was the USA's 200th Birthday, and we celebrated for a whole year, this song became a huge hit.
Remember it well. I was 16 in 76.
@@craigdoriety9798 I was 12.
And unfortunately, as per this day and age, this song released today would probably be protested against for whatever delusional reason the insane wokies conger up this time around. Freedom, America, Philadelphia, etc., all potential protesting points for these anti-Americans ironically living in the Land of the Free.
One of Elton John's greatest singles! I remember hearing this on AM radio as a teen in the mid-70s and loving it! It got the toes tapping and the juices flowing with its bright vocals and fun, positive, foot-stomping rhythm. Wonderful melody too! Still love hearing it after all these years.
I hope my February pick is going to get you dancing just like this one Angela!!! 🎉❤
I love when you dance
I rollerskated to this as a teen!!
I used to be a rolling stone you know, if the cause was right I'd leave to find the answer on the road.....such a great line
Philidelphia Freedom was Elton's 4th #1 hit and stayed at #1 for 4 weeks in 1975 👍
JESUS CHRIST GIVES REAL FREEDOM I KNOW IM SAVED FOR EVER BECAUSE I BELIVE HE DIED FOR ALL MY SINS PAST PREDENT AND FUTURE SINS BECAUSE HE DIED R ME PERSONALY AND I KNOW HE HAS REDEEMED ME .AND MY TRUST IS IN HIM ALONE
This song was written for tennis player Billie Jean King who owned a pro tennis team...The Philidelphia Freedom.
Ok. Did Not know That!
She played on it. Not sure she owned it.
A big hit in 1975 on WTTS Radio, Bloomington, Indiana
Ah, 1977! The year I graduated from high school and Elton John's music was fire throughout the 70's, I've seen him more in concert than any other entertainer.
Love your dancing Angela. Great reaction!
Yup! ...glad you moved that microphone outta the way.
Brings back memories of being in the car with the family and everyone singing along to this song. Glad it put a smile on your face.
People forget how. Brilliant this man was. And. Still. Is.
Please try and review 'Little Lies" by Fleetwood Mac soon. Christine McVie sings lead on it. She passed away today and Fleetfood Mac will never be the same.
without doubt one of Eltons best
Can't go wrong with Elton. He was even asked to do a song for "The Who's" movie version of their rock opera "Tommy" called - "Pinball Wizard." it hit the top of the charts and you can find Elton doing it live in his own concert.
Dude, he didn't just do a song for Tommy, he was in the damn movie! He played the Pinball Wizard.
Favorite song ever, I played this 45 over and over when I was a young girl 😊 my mom wanted to break it , drove her crazy 🤣🤣 thanks for the great memories and keep grovin 😁❤️👍
Check out Elton’s “Island Girl”…..😉
Or Grow Some Funk of Your Own
It’s Sir Elton John, definitely one of my all time favorite artists
Thanks for this!!!!! You shined a little light/ happiness on my rough day!!!! Sweetness!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!!! 😍😎🍸
Living in Philadelphia in 1975 this song was played on every radio station all the time, 560AM WFIL and 990AM WIBG were the 2 big stations.
You're face said it all. Great reaction summary afterwards too.
Brings back good memories summer 1976. The Bicentennial celebration is how I associate this song.
Yes, yes, what a great song...
This and "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" are my two favorites from Sir Elton
Damn! This song ALWAYS sneaks on me! I was ALIVE when this song came out and I still forget about it and how great it is!! One of the reasons I subscribe to your channel (and why I'm a Patron) is because of these amazing reactions to amazing songs that I've loved for decades and completely forgotten about. Thanks again Angela!
You TRULY love❤️the music, it comes through so clearly. Keep up the great work. I love your hand dancing, very expressive! And, you are so cute! Peace & Love David
In the height of the disco era!!! Great song by Sir Elton John.
This song has such a great vibe and beat.
Love your reactions to these great songs. You're a lovely lady, and I can only imagine how well you get down on the dance floor. And, those gorgeous blindingly white teeth of yours. Whoa! Mamma made sure you brushed your teeth every night, didn't she, dear?
Great to see you reacting to the music I grew up with. This is one of many great songs by Elton John. It's a great rabbit hole to go down. I hope you react to more. May I suggest "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding." I hope you and your beautiful smile have a very merry Christmas.
One of his many hits! His lyricist Bernie Taupin really knew his craft! Like Billy Joel, Elton has too many good hits to choose a favorite! Ironic that he and Billy did a piano tour a number of years ago! I heard it was magical and beyond entertaining! Keep on rocking you all!
That's not irony.
One of my favourites of his
Top shelf songs tonight. Philadelphia Freedom another wonderful song from the 70s that you just kind of took for granted at the time from Elton. He could do little wrong at this stage of his career.
Dee Murray kicks ass with the bass on this. Love it.
The band on those early albums, though!! Dee, Caleb, Davey, Nigel, Brian, Gus (producer)
Miss Dee very much great great musician. Very very talented. Lost at such a young age 45. RIP Mr. Murray
@@tonysoprano4755 Agreed 100%
May be my all time favorite song
Great song
Angela--this song really about America...which Philadelphia Freedom represents--you know the Liberty Bell and early significant days where lot of forefathers did important acts and business against the British in Philadelphia.
Great moves Angela ! Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Love the song and Elton. Played Good Bye Yellow Brick Road on the flip side of my 45 to many times. You probably know Christine McVie passed away. Please "react" to her songs. Many people don't know she wrote and sang many of Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits.
One of my 5 favorite songs of all_time!!
Nice moves. I can tell your feeling that music!
Great song!! I’ll vote for this one ☝️
Fantastic uplifting song.....
200 years as a country in 1976. Remember Philadelphia was the capital of our country back in 1776.
OHHHHH YESSSSS, CAN NEVERRRRR GO WRONG HERE! 😊
Suggestions: "You're Still A Young Man," 1972 Tower of Power, a brassy, soulful song pleading with the woman in his life, who is older, not to dump him. "The Last Time I Saw Her," 1968 Gordon Lightfoot, tear-jerker about a man losing the love of his life to death. "Why Can't We Live Together," Sade, 1984 Montreux Jazz Festival, or the 1972 original by Timmy Thomas, an anti-war song about peace and brotherhood. "From The Beginning," ELP, studio version, from their 1972 album Trilogy.
A flute player was called a FLAU-tist waaaaay back when I was in the school band.
Show's the class of the man!So many great song's from Elton John,I heard "Your song" in a shop recently and it stopped me in my track's,such a oldie but class personified...
Stop using apostrophes.
One of my all time jam tunes…❤❤
Angela, consider watching the original Elton and Kiki Dee video "Don't go breaking my heart." It is so cute! And for something completely different, listen to Aurora and Runaway. Aurora is a fairly new artist, but truly fascinating as she wrote her songs starting at age 11... I love your infectious dance moves!!
You can't beat Elton from the 70's.. for me his best work in that era.. yes as others have said he wrote this for BJ Kings tennis team.. they are known as Flautists pronounced as floortists..
She's feeling it! Right on
You just look like you would be fun to dance with!! I have been an Elton fan since the first time I heard him at age 15 when his first US album came out. I play piano too and his music is just fun!
A Sir Elton gem
Actually 1975. Great song.
Just a thought, as Fleetwood Mack sometime lead singer and keyboardist Christine McVie just passed away yesterday, you might consider a bit of a tribute to her Some of her more famous and popular songs include "Everywhere", "You Make Lovin' Fun" and "Songbird".
Elton played this on Soul Train and somehow those folks figured out some cool moves to throw down to it.
yeh i saw that, the famous Philly session group did a great instrumental to the song as well, yeh the inner cities worldwide love this song
Great up beat song .thank you
I love your dancing! You're adorable. (Flautist.)
Love your channel....love your reactions....❤
The thumbnail you posted credits this song to Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, an absolute tour de force
and one of Elton John's most interesting and complex albums in his discography. Philadelphia Freedom was written with airplay in mind, as a stand alone single in homage to the American Bicentennial. It's not a bad song, as EJ songs go, but it's no Captain Fantastic.
You should listen to Someone Saved My Life Tonight.
Great to hear this one again, I've always loved this! Sir Elton John, an all-time great. Nice reaction. Hey, how about a reaction to Elton's good friend, Freddie Mercury and Queen? Under Pressure or A Kind of Magic, live at Wembley.
Yarbrough and people's.. don't stop the music. ...1980s old school funk
...And oh DayOne, this song was NOT about the U.S. city of Philadelphia but rather about British futbol team. It was purposely used as a homonym in the U.S.A....yet it was a BIG hit and jam none the less.
Released in 1975; not 1977. I know cuz I was around when they played the hell out of it.
Angela... You take me back to my youth... I think I was 19 when this came out...
This reaction cheered me up. Thank you! 😊
Thank you for this Angela! Brings back some great memories!
Its sadder than that.... some are so crippled they can't love... that's as close as they can get but the saddest part is they know it. Yeh
IMHO this was Eltons best album just packed full of amazing music and some of Bernies best lyrics. ‘Someone Saved My Life Tonight’ and We all fall in love sometimes’ are must reacts. Funnily enough this track was not on the original captain fantastic album but was added as a bonus track in the 90s reissues
In the 70's Mad Magazine had compared doing something nearly impossible to dancing to an Elton John tune...lol. His songs are hard to dance to but you do great!
He played this song on Soul Train. Like you said, tough song to dance to, but the pros figured it out 😀
You need too here iland girl. It's a great song too
Remember this sing as a young kid and loving singing it!!! Was a huge hit very catchy tune!! Great choice and reaction video too!!! Love the dance moves!! lol
This was the first 45 I ever bought. I'm pretty sure my parents got sick of it way before I did.
Nice ! (no 'air fluting' lol) ....
Hall and Oats cover of this sound is great
The Sound of Philadelphia (TSOP) band
If memory serves it was written about a woman's tennis team in Philly that Billy Jean King was involved. Something like that though the lyrics are pretty loose. Elton had a huge run of hits and albums in the 70s
I just love it when you kind of chair dance to these things when the mood strikes you. And I'm a musician and not only do I like to move to music, I mostly like to be the guy on the stage play the music and watching people dance to it. I have loved that my whole life. So I am endlessly fascinated with it. But anyway, it just means that you can tell that not only are you obviously super sexy, but mostly you are just having a good time. And you have the sense of humor about it that I really think is funny because it cracks me up even while I'm moving right along with you, laugh.
Billie Jean started World Team Tennis to get the women players the same pay as the men. The men and women played together on WTT.
It's a littl bit funny, but Elton is from Pinner in Middlesex, kind of North West of London. But 'Pinner Freedom' just doesn't have the same ring to it . . .
What a great song. There's a live version on 'For One Night Only' that has so much energy it'll power you up for a couple of days.
He visited the usa before you were born...
@@ami443 Interesting. I'd always thought his first trip to the USA was at the end of August 1970, about two or three weeks before my twelfth birthday.
@@markharris1125 yes his first trip in the usa was in 1970..ok you were born before ...
@@ami443 I was a bit rude, I do apologise, obviously you could have no idea when I was born. Sadly the aching joints, the backache, the thinning hair and that popping sound my knees make when I stand up serve as a constant reminder to me. The little cartoon face in my profile is very kind.
@@markharris1125 yes sorry, it is my fault, I didnt guess your age because of the cartoon face in your profile LOL....
from the same album, i would love to see your reaction to "we all fall in love sometimes/curtains".
Pick his performance at Royal Opera House in London with 100 violins and more. Get bang for your buck young lady.
Check out, I feel like a Bullet in the gun of Robert ford by Elton John
77 year of the great snowstorm and 78 thx
If leaving me is easy .. by phil collins
LOVED IT and YOU as always....GREAT REACTION Angela! And your SPONTANEOUS DANCE MOVES to this addictive EJ groove reminded me of when he was the first white singer/ performer to appear on the old TV series Soul Train and he performed two songs... this being one of them as well as Bennie & The Jets... I thought you might like a peek at the vintage clips of both from the same episode.... INjoy! MUCH Love & Gratitude for YOU, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada! HAPPY HOLIDAYS as well...S.
