    Busing tables turns out to be a very popular topic, guys, so this video is about how a busgirl or busboy should talk to the guests and be able to read the table. Next week video will be about serving food on a large food tray and busing plates back to the tray and carrying it back. Don't hesitate to write a comment, ask a question and give a suggestion!

    i just got a job as a busser and finally quit working in retail. wasn't my thing at all, and i'm so happy i can finally say goodbye to that. i'm a bit anxious going into my new job today, as it will be my first day there, but i'm hoping it goes well. i feel like i'll enjoy working in a restaurant a lot more than i did in retail and i'm very excited to see how this all will play out for me.

    Goodevening from Greece my friend.I am Aggelos and i am realy very lucky that i found your videos on youtube and i am learning from your experience all those amazing things about this job.I really appreciate your very nice effort to express your knowledge about the waiter job and you are doing this with great love for it!! I think that first you are the one that enjoy those videos and after all of us that watching them.THANK YOU VERY MUCH. You are helping me as you don"t imagine! I am doing this job for extra money and you make me better in this.Let me ask you about picking the empty plates.I am confused when in a marriage i am seeing in a table of 8-10 persons half of them or more but not all of them have finished the main meal and their plates are empty for a long time when the others are still eating.May i interrupt them and take their plates or i have to wait until all to finish? Thank you.

    • @TheWaitersAcademy
      @TheWaitersAcademy  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words Agelos and yes, I enjoy making those videos and I am extremely happy to receive comments as yours, because that motivates me to keep doing what I do!
      The etiquette requires that we wait till all of the guests are done with their meals before we start clearing the plates!
      There are exceptions off course and this is when a guests ask you to remove his plate, or guest pushes his plates to the edge of the table or start stacking plates on top of each other!
      Off course your manager might have a different view on this topic and if he says you clear and don't wait...this is what you do :)

    • @TheWaitersAcademy
      @TheWaitersAcademy  6 лет назад +1

      Marius, if you are in Austria and work legally you should not worry about losing this job! There is such a demand for good workers in Austria, you will find a job in the next hours and you will be happier! But you have a good plan, right now! Keep the job and keep learning as much about being a waiter as possible! Do you speak German? If not, you should learn that first! Then everything is going to be different! With language and experience you will find a better job in no time!

    • @TheWaitersAcademy

      There are many people in your position! Don't worry! If you want the job and if you are determined to learn, work hard and create a good life for yourself, you will do just fine! One of my favorite authors Robert Kiyosaki has admitted to be scared of contacts with people when he was young, so he purposefully took a job as a sells man just so he can overcome his fears! It is all up to the person! But the good thing is that you self realize you are not very communicative and that somehow stops you from growing and developing all your talents! Work on it and this job is a perfect start! No other tip! Good luck!

      At first, youll go above and beyond. Youll learn quick and find a way that works for you. Your pay determines what youll be responsible for. If youre making 8/hr or more, youll be expected to do more things than the average busser. The average makes 5.25 in Florida. Management will remind you of that. Bussing is easy, but its extremely difficult. For the first couple of weeks, itll take time for your body to adjust. Then, you find yourself working 10x as hard to impress management and move up. If you have the chance to food run/expo/host, TAKE the opportunity to gain more skills. Itll make you a better busser. It all comes with time and experience. Bussing is the bottom of the food chain. Expect the servers to take advantage of you. Expect your coworkers TO NEVER MOVE while youre carrying a heavy ass bustub/tray. I had a server tell me before if they had a choice, they wouldnt tip me out. Some servers are cool asf, others are not. Theyre not better than you. So, dont be afraid to say no. You are not a slave. Ive bussed at 2 rest. and I make 8/hr currently at a place on the beach. Its hard work. Long hours. For example, I worked 9 hours today outside on Fathers Day. Sometimes, I feel extremely overworked. Your pressured to bus as fast as you can in the way youre trained. The bustubs are so heavy it hurts my back when I pick them up incorrectly. Its all about endurance. Once youre good, youll prebuss tables, fill up drinks, help the servers, food run, ext which will all help you move up. Ooor, youll get lucky and maybe theyll make you a server within the year! (: Good luck! Its not all bad. There are good days and other days where I feel like a slave lol

    Great content as always! Can you tell me for example when there are 4 people on the table, 3 are finished with their meal and last one is still eating, do you wait that he or she finishes first so you can remove all 4 plates at once or you can start to collect empty plates from people even though someone is still eating on the table(if they finished much earlier for example)?

    • @TheWaitersAcademy
      @TheWaitersAcademy  6 лет назад +1

      Fica GTI, thanks a lot. We are waiting for all to be finished. Unless a guest from the table asks you to remove his plate, we are waiting for the last person to finish.

      Thank you. It would be great if you can make video about etiquette when is time for guest to pay.
