  • The Irish Mirror has spoken to people on the streets of Dublin about why they feel so many young people want to look abroad to start a new life.
Record numbers of young Irish people have been packing their bags for a better life abroad, with lots heading down under to Australia to work as nurses, teachers or in construction - all high-paying jobs.

In the ‘50’s there were very few young unmarried people who did not leave Ireland to work abroad. Many returned, many did not. Do the maths..the average family size was 5 to 7 children with many country families having 12/14 offspring. Families are smaller now but the traditional exodus continues. Employers have always appreciated the intelligence and integrity of workers who simply wanted a better future on the right side of the law and those that crossed the line often retained great humanity. Erin go breagh!!
