    You know if Intel made any change to the fan?I have the 6th gen i5 and the stock box it´s noisy compared to my old Mac mini(2008,almost 0 db ). Intel must take care about fan choice to the Nuc system cos they put a low quality one. I purchase an akasa newton 6t fanless case to make it 0 db. Nuc are very good for every day tasks and office work,enough cpu to replace an standard atx tower. I´m very happy. Great review and great video!

      yes they could make the case a little bit bigger and heavier and go fanless. Fans gather dust and become noisy. few bucks away from being a perfect solution. Maybe using a metal chassis as a heat dissipator ?

    Can you please run some benchmarks on it? Very interested in PassMark score for the CPU.

    I have had lots of problems with this unit. I have now been without a working NUC for 6 weeks waiting for Intel to replace the device under warranty. My first unit failed when the BIOS was updated by the Intel Driver assistant and bricked the device. They replace this after 4 weeks with a second NUC that had had hardware issues with the HDMI/thunderbolt controller. Still waiting for this to be replaced, but wish I had never purchased one.

      Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the NUC. We actually see less than .5% of these units we ship out ever experience any issues. We also handle all issues for our customers so they don't have to worry about dealing with the different suppliers. If you have any other issues with your replacement please reach out and we will do our best to help. www.simplynuc.com

    @simplynuc do you guys know if the i7 kaby lake nuc is going to be noisier than the i5 kaby lake? Also, is the slimmer i5 kaby lake nuc noisier than the fatter i5 kaby lake nuc?

    Hi i need a bit of a creativity here. I would like to create a PLEX media server with nuc7 however i need to have 3.5 inch SATA3 drive to store and playback all my movie files. 20GB+ each mkv file... Biggest 2.5 inch SATA3 i seen was 2TB until now. Any advice? Possible to store and run movies via USB3 or 3.1 ?

    When are the i5 kits (bare) expected to be sold by Intel? I had heard February, but it doesn't seem likely by this point.

      We will have some of the very first units and are taking pre-orders now. We are being told to expect the first shipment around the end of April.

      We are selling the barebone systems now. Here is a link www.simplynuc.com/intel-nuc-base-kits/# However we do suggest ordering a fully configured system to a majority of customers.

      The weight of the commercial box with everything in it is about 2 lb. 14 oz
      The Power supply by itself is 8 oz.
      The NUC by itself is 1 lb. 10oz. Here is a link to the detailed specs as well simplynuc.com/7i5bnh-full/

    between this and the previous skull canyon gen, wich would you pick?

    • @simplynuc
      @simplynuc  7 лет назад +1

      That really depends on what you are using it for and your budget. This one isn't quite as powerful but has a drive bay for a 2.5" spinning drive. It is also less expensive. The Skull Canyon is still the highest performing NUC with the quad core i7.

    does it have a psi slot

    • @xeno9000
      @xeno9000 6 лет назад

      ben joe it doesn't have a traditional pcie slot. It does have m.2 which is actually pcie x4 so with an m.2 to pcie adapter you can connect standard pcie devices. If you want to connect a gpu you will need to provide external power because the m.2 only provides 15w at most. I actually connected a gtx 1050ti to mine this way so I know it works but it's not really that practical. I suggest doing all your pcie stuff through the thunderbolt. I bought a gtx 1070 aorus gaming bits and it works great.

  • @zeone311

    @simplynuc. Respectfully, I think all those things you mention such as "managing a complex supply chain" are things no one really cares about. Intel, despite the hyped marketing, is excellent when it comes to driver support. You just go their website and download all the latest drivers. In fact, all of them are exe files including the bios. So, the process is really simple. I think where SimplyNUC could add a lot of value is by providing a hardware custom version which perhaps is fanless or maybe adds a couple of usb ports. On the software and installation side, I would never pay a 25% premium to buy from SimplyNUC. However, if you guys had a fanless version, I probably would. All this stuff about "work through complex signaling issues for multiple different uses and applications" is meaningless jargon. It's full of sound and fury signifying nothing :)

    • @simplynuc
      @simplynuc  7 лет назад

      Thank you for the feedback. I think you may be right for individual purchasers who have some experience in technology. We sell custom NUC solutions as well Where we have found success is with those who prefer not to deal with doing it themselves or don't feel comfortable doing it, and with businesses who trust us to do all of that work for them and don't have the systems or people in place to build them on their own or are too busy to worry about it. A common comment we get from new business customers who have been using NUCs is "I am so glad we found you" since they are tired of dealing with it on their own or are ready to scale up production and don't want to put the people in place to do it.

      just got a nuc6i5SYH and the drivers were hard too install and not a simple process. Had to swear a few time to get trough the process and i'm a technician myself. A CD, or download link or QR code in the box would have been great. The lan driver was not working for me. i had to unpack the setup with seven zip and install it from device manager. It's not really straight forward. Also when you go for a specific model on the intel web site it gives you drivers for every nuc that you dont need also. Intel web site has always been a mess. I remember few years ago going to intel ICC conference and the guy says : To find something on the intel site you have to go to google.com and then search "what you want" site:www.intel.com . He said it as a joke but it were back then the real deal. I think they did not improve enough yet. They should look at Asus or lenovo websites for driver download.

      We have a lot of happy customers who would say otherwise. After dealing with assembling the NUCs themselves we regularly hear how happy they were to find us and wish they had earlier. We are not the perfect fit for everyone. ;-)

  • @zeone311

    when the heck is this going to be released? Intel has some issues in terms to telling people it'll be available soon but it takes months and months? btw, the optane memory that intel talks about is a hoax. Optane is going to die a slow death and intel exaggerates its abilities.

    • @simplynuc
      @simplynuc  7 лет назад

      We will have some of the very first production units that we are being told to expect sometime in April. Unfortunately there are a lot of moving parts when a new product is released that all have to fall into place and it is tough waiting on the first units. I am sure Intel is spending a lot of time testing the pre production units to make sure the production units are very stable and reflect the quality expected from an Intel manufactured product. We will be notifying our customer base and posting on Twitter and Facebook the day these hit our shelves.

    It is a shame they removed the rear audio jack and that they dropped to MicroSD. Both decisions are a downgrade in my opinion. The funny thing is that Intel lists "Combo speaker/TOSLINK optical audio jack on the back panel" in their description on their web site. (www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/nuc-kit-nuc7i5bnh.html)

    • @charlesabdouch3052
      @charlesabdouch3052 7 лет назад +1

      I am not sure that there is much cost difference in the full-size SD slot and a micoSD, so I am not sure why they would make this change. Perhaps there is a general move to MicroSD slots on all products in the future.
      Nice catch on the TOSLINK mistake. My guess is that they started with a Pentium or Celeron datasheet and modified it, failing to catch this feature that I have never seen on a Core product. I will send your comment to the Intel tech team.
      Thank you, Don for the comments.

    • @nicolasrodrigue529
      @nicolasrodrigue529 7 лет назад

      yes a full size sd still allow you to use micro sd with adapter, not the other way. If this box is design for professional/business use i think this is too soon to remove such options. Also as the box is so small i think it is pointless to have a front and back connections. It would be great to have everything on the same side except for usb or additional ports. less wires going everywhere out of the box.

    Read below. Optane is a scam. A nuc is so easy to assemble. Why would anyone pay simplynuc to assemble one and charge a premium. I bet a 10 year old can assemble a nuc.

    • @simplynuc
      @simplynuc  7 лет назад

      Like all new innovative technologies I am sure there will be some initial issues with Optane. Its a completely new architecture and design and is an innovative concept that, if pulled off, will change the industry forever. I am hoping they pull it off and can substantiate the initial claims. And you are right, a 10 year old can assemble a NUC. What they can't do is pre-install the correct drivers from an imaging server with custom software, work through complex signaling issues for multiple different uses and applications, track components for warranty and repair issues that might arise, assemble thousands of them a month, manage a complex supply chain or write software that quickly configures over 200,000 different part numbers and configurations with a few simple clicks. Until you have tried to deploy hundreds of NUCs at a time for multiple specific applications you wouldn't understand so don't worry too much about why we exist. ;-)
