First drive in our $1250 RV back on the road after years parked?

  • Well we are back with our $1250 31 year old neglected motorhome. Its a 91 Ford E350 Winnebago Itasca with a fuel injected 460 big block and overdrive E4OD transmission. It has been sitting for several years and we recently did a bunch of repairs to the roof, generator, air conditioning, and interior in some of our recent videos. This time we are going to be doing all of the mechanical work it needs to get ready for a big cross country trip we are planning on taking soon. We try to fix the brakes that have major problems, do a complete tune up and oil change, and install some new stuff that it really needs. Hope you like it.

Great job on the rear brakes...only needed new cylinders. Spark plugs are always fun...you bring out the mini extension- multiple adapters, swivels 1/4 to 3/8 rackets....you end up using 28 different tools for what should be a three tool set-up..socket-extension-ratchet. On one car's starter...and had to used like 4 or 5 extensions to go out almost 3 feet to take out a bolt..no clearance.

If you take the hoses off that breather thing you taped up, you'll find there are 2 horn shaped velocity tubes. If you cut those horns off, she'll get much better air flow volume. We actually drilled some big holes in the bottom of the air filter tub on our F250. We got waaaaay better air flow through her. A bit ghetto, but it works.😂😂

I thinking you got it in good shape. Yes good call on the new casings for the rear and over sized too that is excellent. Seems like it ready to go I hope you all have fun you guys did a good job on clean up and refurbing. I am guessing the roof will not leak? Some new gasoline no alcohol regular will make it run better you gotta burn that old dead gas out of it so you can get some real BTUs. Get and extra gas filter for it for the trip just in case it gets full of more rust and dirt. Probably will. It may already be clogged with rust that may be a problem. get lots of extra gas filters to be safe. It will be fun where are you going ? Yellow stone, Mount Rushmore, Its probably a lot cooler there. Oil the air conditioner fan motor on the AC on the roof. It looked like it needed it when it was stuck.

Great to see the RV on the road, For the delamination problem, get yourself a six pack of large syringes, and a pint of polyester resin, drill holes at the top of each bubble, [big enough for the nozzle of the syringe] mix up some resin and hardener, suck it up with the syringe, and inject into the holes you drill above the delaminated sections, while pushing against the skin [delaminated skin] to spread the resin around.
Then take some two by fours and prop them against the skin to push the sections together, leave for three hours, and it should fix the delamination problems, repeat procedure on all problem areas.
P.S. you will need one syringe for each area treated, as each syringe will become useless after thge resin hardens.
Hope this helps, Wishing you and the family a spectacular time Camping.

When using an ultrasonic cleaner, always remember to take gravity into account. For eample, when cleaning a float bowl, put it in upside down. Otherwise, the sirt suspended in the cleaner will settle on the freshly cleaned area. Also, I found that to fully clean a carburetor, once the ultrasonic cleaning is done, spray the parts down with brake cleaner to remove any residue especially when cleaning jets and emulsion tubes.

    Josh,
Please make sure you have good casings all the way arround for safety. Blowouts are very dangerous. We were on the road 11 years in a 40 foot motorhome. Always check the tire pressure every day before hitting the road. Good luck on your trip.

We also check after the first gas stop when the tires are hot. Then every other or so. Fluids too.

The beginning of the videos are great, the one liners are hilarious. This video had me laughing all the way through it. I like the way you edited this one, had a great flow to it. The RV is awesome and the Famiky is great too. I really look forward to seeing a new video os done and ready to watch. Keep up the great quality and don't rush em out, don't change a thing. Thank you for the entertainment, God bless

Really enjoyed watching the transformation! We were just given my dads Minnie Winnie 2019 Winnebago travel trailer , we pick it up in September! It’s barely used and practically new , but we will be first time RV owners - have so much to learn . But you’ve really given me lots of info of what to check regularly , what can be an issue and maintenance info. Be using ours a lot for Boy Scout events , my grandson , 11 and husband very active in BSA , so this is perfect for me to participate glamming style!

What an incredible amount of work in such a short time! I'm loving this content as it is all so relatable. My good friend bought an '84 Chevy RV and went through many of the same issues, especially the wood rot. This required pulling out most of the interior of the coach early last year. Months of work were put into it. By fall, we were determined to drive it from IL to the big Fall Carlisle swap meet in PA. The RV was gone through and mechanically done, but was still missing most of the cabinets and the bathroom was non-existent. We were pretty anxious about the trip. Besides losing an alternator belt and some exhaust bolts, it ran fine and we had the best time. Can't wait to hear about your trip and see more content! Your family is just the best.

On the side walls there is a four digit number in an ovel.
First two numbers are the number of weeks and the second two numbers are the year the tire was made.
They say not to run steer tires over 7 years old.
    Looks great 👍👍

Check the backs too, if you lose the tread, it will tear out the plastic wheel well to the interior. Also note the location of the propane tank and tire.

I have the same concern with delamination. Do you think spraying contact cement through some slits would work, or does he need liquid nails. Do you think the access holes can be disguised with gunshot decals?
