@@rogertaylor7433 Neither Wickham nor Lydia had any idea of Darcy and Elizabeth. All Lizzie mentioned was Darcy was not improved, but while at Hunsford, (visiting the Collinses) he was better understood. That was it, at that point. Also, Darcy being at the residence of his aunt, Wickham likely knew that Miss de Bourgh was the arranged wife to be by both Lady Catherine and Darcy’s mother Lady Anne. Wickham did not choose to be with Elizabeth as she was too perceptive.

The BBC outdid themselves with this visual version of Pride and Prejudice, though not completely like the book, it still gives the book plenty of development through the nicely timed episodes. The cast, costumes and aesthetic is absolutely pristine! I still don't like any other version over this one. I wish they would do a digital clean up of this version, some of the scenes are a bit out of focus and grainy.

What I love about this adaptation is how even as Elizabeth slowly begins to come around and change her opinion of Darcy, part of her stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that she actually does LIKE him on some level. Even at the end of this scene as she says out loud to herself that she'll never see him again because of the mess her family is in, it still seems like she hasn't completely acknowledged why that saddens her. It really speaks to the slow burn and growth the two leads go through.

    • @belgh328
      @belgh328 Месяц назад +1

If Darcy would not manage to clean this mess (and Lizzy could not even think that he will get involved and of course couldn't expect that) they indeed would not see each other again. He even cancelled the meeting of Lizzy with his sister to not put his sister under risk. He might have loved Lizzy, but his responsibilities for his existing family and Darcy house come before her and as a person of that time she understands and accepts that.

    This is to me
One of best scenes in this
    Novel...where after their
    Breakup..they made amends..
Her uncle and aunty met Darcy and had a family gettogether of sorts...Also Georgiana met Lizzie
And patches made discreetly..surely..and by reaching at right time
He had good time to show
Allegiance to Bennett's family..where he had hopes of
    Matrimony since long..
So his thoughtful actions all bears fruit in his further relationship
    With Lizzie...
    Ah!!!
Knight in shining armour..steps taken by him to reach wickham..
To reach a climax which is
    Worth a watch...

  • @TM15HAKRN

    The reaction of
    Darcy....those
    intelligent intense eyes
    That can Portray
    Any role..
The steps he takes...as he soaks in the news received...
Both in lov have a common element...wickham..both
    Manipulated severely by him..
    Remorseless..unscrupulous..so called Armyman...
    In conservative society of
Britain..so the situation of both brings them yet again
    Together
    What magic Austen created...
    And enacted by
    Powerful actors..
    laudable indeed...

Well, from my point of view Lizzy was previously informed from Mr Darcy by his letter to her on the true nature of Wickham, seducing his own sister..Thus the elopement of Wickham with her sister, Lydia, was a further, central blow to her prejudices. I think that the confession of her prejudices and amendments towards Mr Darcy in this point are short-coming. Instead the story is all about silly Lydia and the salvation by the love of Mr. Darcy towards Lizzy and, the reputation of her family. Well, I miss a little Lizzy’s growth of character by insight and remorse in her personal faults.

Now, that's an extreme example, but Wickham is going after Lydia, a silly child easily swayed by romance, in hopes of getting his debts settled by her family, the same reason he went after poor Georgiana.
