WOW! I'm not big into opera, but lately I've been getting into Renee Fleming and Joyce DiDonato; they're both fantastic, and humble, gracious people too. I also kind of love that they're American women from middle-class backgrounds.
This seems to be a match made in a Mozartian heaven. Both singers have a perfect understanding of Mozart's style and the perfect vocal quality for their roles.

Fantastic. Thank goodness the sound was better than the blurry visuals. But the acting talent came through the fog successfully. What fun , what a joy! Great combination of beautiful voices.

You don't hear Fleming do that much Mozart, whereas Joyce is the heir to Fredrica Von Stade when it comes to Mozart. I love Fleming's lush interpretation and the way she, as Fiordiligi, takes herself so seriously. She's the deep one and then Joyce is the sassy Dorabella ready to fling herself into this new adventure. They are the perfect contrast to each other, just like sisters often are.... I admit I love Kiri Te Kanawa and Von Stade the best, but these two give us a real treat!

A marvelous performance, Sound is good, but this upload is spoiled by such poor quality video. Does anyone have a good version, I would love to see this again if it is produced somewhere nearer to HD. I use a modest size screen ~19 inch but this 144p definition is just not up to scratch at any size,.
+Rosa Frank Joyce actually talks about this in another clip of her singing Una voce poco fa from the same event. She was flown in from Switzerland the morning of the gala to replace another singer (Susan Graham I think, actually) who had dropped out last minute. It's likely that they only had an hour, if that, to rehearse together before performing.
I think I like both RF and JDD here better than I have heard either of them solo. If it were a competition I would choose JDD. I have never cared much for RF's tone or scooping, though here seems much better than normal.
Watching their masterclasses, it's not hard to see how critical Joyce is of Renee's technique. The scooping, ingolata, interpretation ... Joyce would have none of it.
Love them both. However, RF has more style and elegance, without herself being great at picking dresses, anyway (...) But look at DD: HORRENDOUS DRESS! She succumbed to the temptation of an asymmetric collar, chose a dull color that does not do anything for her figure, complexion or inherent style, only placing emphasis on an overall disheveled look. What, she wanted to give the opera a more democratic look? Pleeeeease...
