Here's some actual advanced techniques: 1. Soft drift - holding the left stick at 60 degrees from the horizontal axis in either left or right will charge a mini-turbo at the fastest speed whilst not turning at a sharp angle 2. Alignment Hop - tapping the drift button will allow you to hop and redirect your Kart quickly to the left or right, especially useful for controlling mini-turbos 3. Mushroom Dodge - You can use a mushroom to dodge a blue shell by using the mushroom right before the explosion happens (as the blue shell moves towards the floor) 4. Ramp drift - this is a simple one but many people overlook it. Just hold drift off a ramp instead of tricking to drive easier around tight corners after ramps (especially useful in 200cc) 5. Respawn Dodge - deliberately falling off the map before a blue shell hits will make the blue shell explode off the track and you will not get hit. Respawning is faster than being hit. This can also be used to dodge shocks but this only really happens by accident
The soft drifting angle is somewhere between 70 and 80 degrees. Additionally, one should not steer as one hops when initiating a drift, but as soon as the vehicle begins to reach the ground.
My secret technique is to seduce my opponents by reciting 18th Century French poetry whilst softly caressing any and all facial hair they happen to posses. You'd be surprised how effective this is.
wo there... fortnite is a good game but I do think the battle royal is sort of out of style with the "original' fortnite the 4 player defend the objective mode.... yea I do hate how people use click bait these days, and youtubers are just milking the money right now out of fortnite so don't expect it going any where for a little while
If you find it hard to find the right moment (when the 2 stops moving..) for the rocket boost at the start then simply look at the traffic lights of Lakitu. The moment when the 2 stops moving is the same as when the second red light appears. So you could focus on that instead. Much easier! :)
Turn on Smart Steering in 200cc. I love it because it wants to keep you on the track and slows you even down. I think its better than falling down and when you not a pro with drifitng and the "secret" techniques. But there are 2 cons. One, shortcuts are not easy to use because smartsteering what to keep you on the track and two, dont fail at drifting. Smartsteerring can break you completly. 200cc gets much easier with this but also a bit harder.
Sure you can master it. I completed 200cc only with smart steering and only need to make one cup twice (and some restarts because of MK RNG). But i onlay used smart steering for 200cc in Singleplayer until i unlocked Gold Mario. I can master driftbreaking in Online Mode. Also with smart Steering i break in drifts but sometimes you thing you get the corner but smart steering breaks you so much that you now can drive backwards.
here is a secret secret: You can use a mushroom to dodge a blue shell by using the mushroom right before the explosion happens (as the blue shell moves towards the floor)
Alright, here's one for those of you whom, like me, still play Double Dash. When drifting with say the Right Trigger you can tap or hold the Left Trigger to turn much more quickly and take the turn much quicker, this will cancel any drift boost you had accumulated but can be extremely helpful for things like the downward spirals on Wario Colosseum and Rainbow Road. Maybe this works in MK8 Deluxe in some form but I have not personally tested yet.
*PRO TIPP:* the rocket start has *NOTHING* to do with the 2 being on screen. Just keep an eye on lakitu on the side of the screen. when the middle light glows red, hold *A*
If you keep falling off the stage because you can't control the turbo boost, get a vehicle and wheel combination that maximizes your traction. This may seem slower, but higher traction actually decreases the amount of drifting needed to get a boost, so it makes up for the speed you give up.
Does anyone know how the NPCs in battle mode are able to use items right at the beginning while my cube I got at the same time is still deciding what item it wants to pick? 😊
The official name for "The U-Turn" at speed is called a J-Turn, for it leaves a drift mark in the shape of a J on the road. A U-Turn is when you do it from a parked or stopped position.
I knew about the last one but I didn’t know braking was even a thing until 8 when I got 200cc. It says “braking is crucial” and I was like braking ain’t even a thing. Well, now I brake in double dash as well and I’ve never smoked so many of my friends
not sure about number 2 but 1,3,4 and 5 are NOT secret...why? because they are in the INFO section in mario kart 8 deluxe.... At least you give a litle more insight of how and when to use the techniques and that make the video realy usefull!
I’m still confused in what the difference between drift cancel and drift brake is. At first glance, they seem to do about the same thing around sharp corners.
I'm not sure about that one, but the others "rocket start", drift, spin turn and U-turn ARE in the help section, but at least he says more practical uses for some of them
"Secret techniques" all readily explained in the Help Info section of the game, with little videos examples even. I blame Breath of the Wild for this. Every Switch game is going to have at least one "secret" techniques video now... On a side note, while I'm really sad to see Instruction Manuals go. If every game comes with a robust, in-game, info section as aesthetically pleasing as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's is, I'm not has upset by it. The whole online manual only thing that the eShop, and later Wii U and 3DS titles, did wasn't cutting it. I don't like the idea of knowing someday I won't be able to just peruse this info for fun. And they kind of looked like crap too. Basic info on blank white with, maybe, a low res picture.
What about air cutting? No one talked about the air cutting.. if u don't know what I mean it's simple in Mario Kart actually in every Mario Kart game it's when u are evenly behind someone then this air dives u pass ppl everytime u been passed or passing an opponent. It's tricky but plz try it out! Oh and last is when it's activated it takes a while before u began air cutting pass them.
everything he said is already mentioned in the game. i got secret trick that the game doesnt mention. when you drift towards a right turn, you drift left, then turn right.
Il give another one you have to jump at the edge of a ramp or a little ramp and it will give you a boost (you can skid with this button too off-course)
You see I grew up having bike races with my friends so to distract them I’d let go of my bike and ride with no hands and they’d just daze off so I’d get the lead... you can’t really do that in Mario kart
A smörgåsbord lol, why do English people use a Swedish word literally meaning sandwich table? (And for correct pronunciation: ö is like "ea" in "learn" and å is like "o" in "more")
SoW_Scout's Gaming Hub Yep, me and my brother play like this too (on Wii U tho). Is easier to break drift and also I use the X button to look backwards a lot so is pretty comfortable
The fact that he is using that combination in the tips 1,2,3,5 (witch is one of the worst, if not the 2nd worst) triggers me a lot as a 4000 online points player
Uhm...what about fire hopping? I mean, everybody knows it so it's not secret anymore but I think fire hopping is a very easy technique so every noob can practice it.
Here's some actual advanced techniques:

Real MVP
The soft drifting angle is somewhere between 70 and 80 degrees. Additionally, one should not steer as one hops when initiating a drift, but as soon as the vehicle begins to reach the ground.
I mean, I already knew these tips, but at least these are real secrets to a majority of the people that play the game
U know u made it when u do those 5
I think reading this will be a better use of my time then watching a probably disappointing video. Thanks👍
My secret technique is to seduce my opponents by reciting 18th Century French poetry whilst softly caressing any and all facial hair they happen to posses. You'd be surprised how effective this is.
Mainly because they leave the room, leaving me to play in peace.
Nice technique
My body is ready
Ok
You had me at hello.
Me: Hey, I finally got MK8 Deluxe so I can actually have fun with my friends!
200CC: Allow me to introduce myself.
Ok i can join you on MK8D for 200cc so how can i join you Lol
is it just me or when I play grand prix I only go for 3 stars even if I get 2nd place I will quit and re do it
You are not alone.
Yeah man like we was eating the le pershuaé and that guy ate my sand
How are these techniques secret...?
Lmao I know right
90% of RUclipsrs are click bait trolls. Fortnite RUclipsrs are the worst with it right now.
wo there... fortnite is a good game but I do think the battle royal is sort of out of style with the "original' fortnite the 4 player defend the objective mode.... yea I do hate how people use click bait these days, and youtubers are just milking the money right now out of fortnite so don't expect it going any where for a little while
Peachymistic its a guide for noobs XD
Secret : instead of using a and b
Use the right joystick to accelerate forward and b to stop and go backwords.
It's a cool fact, but it's next to useless in an actual race.
Dequan Milete If you think about it, it's more comfortable to play that way than pressing A and B.
I guess, but in a high-speed race or a battle, you'll want to be able to press both buttons at the same time to pull off the techniques listed here.
Dequan Milete I mean if you hold forward to accelerate you won't need to click a, and the b button which is to stop during a boost
LIFE TRACK Am i the only person who uses Y to drive instead of A? it puts your thumb in a more comfortable position in my experience using joycons
If you find it hard to find the right moment (when the 2 stops moving..) for the rocket boost at the start then simply look at the traffic lights of Lakitu. The moment when the 2 stops moving is the same as when the second red light appears. So you could focus on that instead. Much easier! :)
I need a tip for preventing the other comp racers from hitting me with a blue shell right before I get to the finish line making me finish in 6th.
I usually go so fast that it doesn't even matter
You can use a mushroom to dodge a blue shell by using the mushroom right before the explosion happens (as the blue shell moves towards the floor)
The horn shockwave thing (idk what it’s called) cancels blue shells as well
I love how British people can say smart ass and it doesn't sound offensive.
I unlocked Gold Mario without know that that Drift cancel/release A button worked! I can't wait to test it out on online lol!
Umm idk about everyone else but these 5 techniques are literally on the Home Screen of mk8 deluxe? Like they literally show you all five in the game
Turn on Smart Steering in 200cc. I love it because it wants to keep you on the track and slows you even down. Smartsteerring can break you completly. 200cc gets much easier with this but also a bit harder.
You can just master driftbraking and not use Smart Steering so you don't have to care for the downsides.
Sure you can master it. I completed 200cc only with smart steering and only need to make one cup twice (and some restarts because of MK RNG). But i onlay used smart steering for 200cc in Singleplayer until i unlocked Gold Mario. I can master driftbreaking in Online Mode. I'm looking for some secret secrets. These japanese players are no joke online, they work together and team up on you if you ain't one of them.
here is a secret secret: You can use a mushroom to dodge a blue shell by using the mushroom right before the explosion happens (as the blue shell moves towards the floor)
no matter how good or great you become in mario kart, the game dictates whether you win or lose or lose your mind
Ohhh, okay, I thought by "secret", you meant something Nintendo hasn't already told us.
*PRO TIPP:* the rocket start has *NOTHING* to do with the 2 being on screen. Just keep an eye on lakitu on the side of the screen. when the middle light glows red, hold *A*
That's when the 2 comes in. You need help
BossDuck417 BossDuck417 lol
If you keep falling off the stage because you can't control the turbo boost, get a vehicle and wheel combination that maximizes your traction. This may seem slower, but higher traction actually decreases the amount of drifting needed to get a boost, so it makes up for the speed you give up.
Finally a useful Video. I have been struggling. Will try these tonight
Smörgåsbord at the end! (I'm from Sweden)
Americans use the term as well.
What type of camera are you using to record the scene’s of you in the video?
If you shake the joycon you can do the ramp boosts without needing the timing, it helps a LOT in maps with many bumps
How do you not have at least half a million subs? You deserve them
These are all literally loading screen tips
Here you go, this is the obligatory off-topic bleating that you have requested.
i was knowing all the tecniques except for the second lol however this is a nice techniques video :)
Alex, u forgot the most important part : Always use your blinkers! 😃 lol
Gonna admit that I rolled my eyes at rocket start, but then those power slide tips! Thanks a lot!
I myself am a mario kart wii expert, who ranked top 10 worldwide, and am just now learning newer mario kart games.
Thanks for the advice, mate.
Only realised you could brake while drifting today lol. Helps a lot.
What about soft drifting in _Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?_ It wasn't removed, and the soft drifting angle is approximately 70 degrees in _Deluxe._
These are Some really good and handy tips
I used this technics and i feel so happy for having my gold mario
get the gold wheels yet? thats what im working on lol
Keep pressing the a button, but press the b button while drifting to drift more controllably.
I knew about the last one but I didn’t know braking was even a thing until 8 when I got 200cc. It says “braking is crucial” and I was like braking ain’t even a thing. Well, now I brake in double dash as well and I’ve never smoked so many of my friends
I didn't know about the last one.
Funny thing is, i didnt use the b break at all while playing in 200cc grand prix to unlock golden mario.
That brake tip was awesome!!! Thanks so much!
not sure about number 2 but 1,3,4 and 5 are NOT secret...why? because they are in the INFO section in mario kart 8 deluxe....
At least you give a litle more insight of how and when to use the techniques and that make the video realy usefull!
How do you stay moving forward if you've been hit by shell? I see it all the time but never happens to me
I’m still confused in what the difference between drift cancel and drift brake is. At first glance, they seem to do about the same thing around sharp corners.
In case you didn't figure out after 3 years, drift cancel removes the boost, drift brake allows you to still keep the boost.
I knew all of the techniques on day 1.
While I knew all of these techniques already, this video was very informative and great for new players! Great job Alex! :D
Finally someone shares how to not be a scrub without steeer assist on. Thank you!
No one of these techniques are "secret" except the unknown last but the whole rest is just basics...
Here’s another tip. Pushing left moves you left.
I haven't looked through the help menu. Does it explain jump feather stealing?
What's the difference between drift cancel and drift brake?
¿Can we nominate this guy for "Best intro phrase in RUclips"?
"Heeello there lovely peeeeeople"
How do you unlock the title screens?
Unicorn is a good example of how to use the internet
The worst is when you hit tryhards. They magically just keeps on going in the same speed after gettig hit
The drift brake isn't THAT secret.
Pretty sure it's in the help section on the main menu.
I'm not sure about that one, but the others "rocket start", drift, spin turn and U-turn ARE in the help section, but at least he says more practical uses for some of them
Yeah, true.
It's too bad there isn't anything to unlock for getting 3 stars on every cup. Rainbow Road on 200cc can be a pain.
"Secret techniques" all readily explained in the Help Info section of the game, with little videos examples even. I blame Breath of the Wild for this. Every Switch game is going to have at least one "secret" techniques video now...

ExE Yeah ppl do look back but this technique will surprise u in a couple of matches when it come down to u and someone ahead of u with no items.
When you fall off Lakatu dangles some coins. Is there a way to get those? Cant find anything anywhere.
Delusi Bruh hes taking those away from you
I didn't know about braking while drifting until AFTER I unlocked Golden Mario
you poor soul...
The second one... no that's wrong. You don't need to stop accelerating, just drift and brake at the same time...
braking during 200cc is considered secret? I'm pretty sure that's stated in the game somewhere
everything he said is already mentioned in the game. i got secret trick that the game doesnt mention. when you drift towards a right turn, you drift left, then turn right.
So..... I know all of this before watching... so knowing this “technique’s” your considered a pro... weird how some things so simple calls u a pro
Im a new player and raged because of 150cc this helped a lot
should've been called five driving techniques that if you played the game would already know
Jack simpson I only knew the braking drift. I don't play battle mode so...
you can use the feather to jump over the "law" in renegade round-up
Thanks you ginger basket, your vids are awdsome😀
That last one you don't need for 200cc as I did it and unlocked gold mario without knowing that tip
OK so these are the driving technique, what about jump boost? *I actually know jump boost by accident on Mario Kart 7, not Mario Kart Wii...*
thank you. I owe you my life now
lol
Since nobody made the joke
The real secret is using the lt on your controller to get auto turning
4 out of 5 of these are in the [Help] >> [Driving Techniques]
Il give another one you have to jump at the edge of a ramp or a little ramp and it will give you a boost (you can skid with this button too off-course)
What's the name of that kart In The thumbnail
I knew all of these already
So much HD, so much HD...
*HELP MEEEE!!!1*
You see I grew up having bike races with my friends so to distract them I’d let go of my bike and ride with no hands and they’d just daze off so I’d get the lead... you can’t really do that in Mario kart
A smörgåsbord lol, why do English people use a Swedish word literally meaning sandwich table? (And for correct pronunciation: ö is like "ea" in "learn" and å is like "o" in "more")
Which car did u use Alex?
Speed doesn't matter, acceleration all the way Inside drift bikes are broken on 200
These techniques are well-known secrets
I like using a super secret technic called winning. super helpful
This was all explained in the game... definitely not a secret
What happened to the whole "Learning" aspect of games...
I use Y to accelerate, it just feels more comfortable to me. I wonder if anyone else does this.
SoW_Scout's Gaming Hub Yep, me and my brother play like this too (on Wii U tho). Is easier to break drift and also I use the X button to look backwards a lot so is pretty comfortable
Surprised you knew about drift break!
My Problem Is 200cc How Do You Drift When Your Going To Fast I Hit The Wall And If I Brake Then I Slow Down Either Way I'm Fucked
Tip #2 is nullified by Tip #5
Nice pikmin poster
How are these "SECRETS" if it's already on the info section
Is it werid that i use a arcade fightstick to play mario kart
thanks. Maybe I will be able to score higher than 8 on every multiplayer match now.
The fact that he is using that combination in the tips 1,2,3,5 (witch is one of the worst, if not the 2nd worst) triggers me a lot as a 4000 online points player
I wouldn't say a 4000 vr player is a pro tbh but rank them by overall performance since worldwides are ez
Well, but I know what vehicles and wheels combinations are the best, and that combination is very bad
Ye these people r nubs
Oh, I guess I drove like a pro afterall
Uhm...what about fire hopping? I mean, everybody knows it so it's not secret anymore but I think fire hopping is a very easy technique so every noob can practice it.
um all of that is mentioned in the help screen on driving techniques, not a secret but still helpful advice for noobs
You forgot the Jump Boost
I dream of getting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Expected to see the little known technique of getting your drift boosts to kick in quicker. Obviously not as pro as you think you are. ;)
ZXBilly What trick are you talking about? I can't think of what you mean aside from tighter turns.
ZXBilly if u quickly move the stick back and forth in the middle of ur drift, it will build up the boosts quicker
Paradox tight turns is also the only thing I can think of too.
+Ryan Yates Now there is a pro :)
Ryan Yates That was only in Mk Ds and double dash right?
