+Peter Grantham that makes sense. but which kind of moron. I think I'm a moron for not seeing the darker side of the song until much later. I thought he was saying I won't go anymore.
All of you here cutting him down are dumber than you claim that he is. He's saying it metaphorically, I guess you all missed the life like a magazine reference.
Excellent description, "peels paint off the wall." Certainly appropriate! I saw him twice. Once on the blah blah blah tour, (not my favorite record) where he opened for the Pretenders, and once with the Stooges reunion. Both were great, but the Stooges show was unbelievable! Best shows I ever saw too.
My introduction to Iggy Pop: I was stationed at Sheppard AFB. I went into town at a music shop and they were playing this album. I bought it right away. And have collected his albums ever since.
i saw him in San Francisco in the 2000's. He threw the microphone stand into the wall during the first song! The tech people were like freaked out because he broke like a $300 mic stand--during the first song!! Everyone in the crowd was cracking up!
I stare at the concrete The girders rise high The steel's above me There's love in my eyes... Wow!! I've always loved his lyrics. He and Lou Reed.. My two best lyricists.
Iggy is no Freak, and only a rebel in the sense that he doesn't give a shit what others think. That's what all rock is supposed to be about. He's just a working class bloke from Detroit who speaks to the hardworking, often disinfranchised folks. He appeals to the loner and outcast, but also invites them in to experience "The World," just as he has in all his work. Heck, he and Bowie hung out in Berlin using heroin and making 4 records. Bowie toured with and played keyboards on Iggy's 1977 TV Eye tour. Can't get better supprt than that, especially if you;re a freak. No labels....
Saw Iggy back around early 2000's I think it was. Anyway, standing there bellied up against the front of the stage he comes romping out, arms flailing. Talk about energy, the place went nuts. As some others have pointed out, "peeled the paint off the walls". Awesome performer.
In 1980, I rang Iggy up for some rekkids at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor...asked and got his sig which I still have today...been a fan before and ever since.
Looks like Iggy ate a BIC pen before they shot this. Great song. Great video too. Saw him a few years ago with Josh Homme on guitar. Incredible set. Couldn't believe the intensity Iggy still had at his age. He's the real thing.
I like the set. It makes him seem pent up, especially since he has to hold back so he won't tear through the plastic. And it gives no frame of reference to be able to tell how short or tall he really is.
I had a friend who had FUNHOUSE on CD and I would play it every time I went to his house, eventually he said "dude, play something else" but it was the best disc he had in his collection
Story of my life! My first Iggy album was "T.V. Eye Live '77," a cut out bin find recommended by a friend (I later dated his sister w/o his permission - ya makes ya choices in life!). Well, that's all it took. "New Values" changed my life. Been an Iggy fan ever since!

Lust for life!

It's 2022. Yesterday I saw Iggy for the third time in my life. He opened with this song. Undisputed Number 1 or rock'n'roll of all time.
I only heard this song for the first time a few days ago. It was on TV. What an awesome song!!
Are you only 5 foot one too? 🤔
Check out his tune, "knocking them down in the city."
Have you heard, I'm bored?

@Ginx-pe4si So, you're 5 foot 1 too? 🤔👌
0:45 *"And I'm doing the things, a five foot one man can do."* I've loved that line ever since I first heard this in '84 on KROQ, when I was 16.
What I like most about this video is that you can't tell whether he's trying to make you laugh or being dead serious, lol
+Dom Cisco That's Iggy. A philosopher and a moron at the same time.
+Peter Grantham that makes sense. but which kind of moron. I think I'm a moron for not seeing the darker side of the song until much later. I thought he was saying I won't go anymore.
+Dom Cisco obviously the song is about being short, but really what does being short mean. I'd say it means just that.
He’s being funny. The funniest things are always when people are being dead serious.
All of you here cutting him down are dumber than you claim that he is. He's saying it metaphorically, I guess you all missed the life like a magazine reference.
Iggy is just the best and I've been a fan for many years. Live he peels the paint off the wall... Best show I ever saw
i was lucky enough to see him live twice...pealed the paint real good!!
Agreed one of the best shows I've ever seen ever.. I met him afterwards perfect gentleman just wonderful person

Had the chance to see him multiple times in his prime. My friend has stormed the stage when Iggy invited the crowd up. Unforgettable

There is only one Iggy Pop. Never to be replicated.
He is an underground icon, he created the soundtrack for generations of freaks and rebels to come.

And it gives no frame of reference to be able to tell how short or tall he really is.
This album and soldier were imho the best of the chemically enhanced solo Iggy albums... pure fire!!!
