- September 29, 2012. Nick Malceski's AFL Grand Final sealer for the Sydney Swans is truly an Elite Moment - but he had some help from some no-names and unlikely heroes to defeat one of the greatest teams ever assembled - the fearsome 2012-15 Hawthorn Hawks dynasty.
Before this great moment were contributions from traded rejects, rugby converts, nervous kids and one very special, very tall Canadian. This is the story of how we got to this Elite Moment.

Amazing video mate, as a Swans fan you brought a tear to the eye, we never forgot the sacrifices by the likes of LRT, Kieran Jack, and the Canadian bacon himself Mike-not-Don-Pyke. The OG a decade before Mason had even looked at a Sherrin. Joey and Hanners day out but ultimately the 100m dash between Lewis Jetta and Cyril was the cherry on top... lewis won that.
One hell of a Grand Final to watch as a neutral, there hasn't been a better one to watch since then (2023 comes close, though)

I recall a key turning point was the 50m penalty conceded by Sam Mitchell which gave the Swans a crucial goal to end Hawthorn’s run of scorning late in the 3rd quarter.
Yeah, that was the McVeigh goal, I think! That definitely kept the Swans in the game.
I'd have liked to have devoted more time to McVeigh and the actual Hawthorn side of things but decided to keep the video a bit shorter.
