Hi Thomas. Thanks for the look see, my takeaway is my Plan B Route to the Pacific, through the Med to to The Suez Canal, is rapidly shifting towards being Plan A, if the Rebate Discounts for the Suez Canal continue to be very Tempting for Shallow Draft Monohulls of reasonable sub 50ft length and decent displacement. Lots of nice places to hang around waiting for Transit Special Offers to show up too, from Refreshing my drink of Return in NW Spain Galicia, farewell to family in Andalucia, and a return to Italy where I saw Naples and Died and an overdue promise to return to the islands around Capri, etc etc. Best Wishes for a Great Canal Transit, Fair Winds, and maybe see you in the Pacific Somewhere. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
That was a great idea to show all the different sizes and brands of sailboats!I found that very interesting and the way you presented it all was fun to watch 👍
Thanks for this, hope you enjoyed the canal, I was there this time last year so it is fun to revisit the place with you. I hope you enjoyed the monkeys and birds, and the pool.
Hi, Thomas! Interesting seeing all of the various sailing vessels and how the designs for cruising sailboats have evolved over the years. Glad to know that you'll have Gee onboard for the upcoming Pacific passage -- looking forward to your canal crossing! Fair winds!
I don't know how long its been since you switched it up but I just noticed the new Norwegian flag on board Be Free! :) I should pay more attention. lol. Another great video! I'm looking forward to seeing your crossing of the canal. :) Cheers!
Great video! Hey you missed a good one on your walkthrough. At 4:13 it looks an awful lot like a GunBoat 68 with metallic ice blue hulls peeking out on the opposite dock. Hope your transit of the canal goes smooth 👍
It’s your turn to have fun & be free…. I’m looking forward to seeing your next adventures. I know many people who either got hurricane damaged or bought them from Charter Companies, but nearly all of them were Lagoons for some reason.
Nice to see all the boats and people who are going arround the world. Sad that it not worked to see each other in the carribien but good luck for your further trip. I will follow you. Regards
Hi Thomas, and another video with interest.. I recognized a few factory named vessels, many others not known to me, plus the odd/interesting personal names placed by the owners. Thank You.👍
Thank you for watching, and your question. Yes you can perfectly sail around the World in your Dufour 42 GL. I made a video about this topic long time ago, called why do I sail a 55 when you can cross oceans in almost anything. The challenge nowadays is increased costs and eg the new rules for the Panama Canal. All the best and cheers 🍻
The more performance oriented cats have better proportions. Cats like Outremer, Balance and Marsaudon Composites. And there are of course more brands than just these three.
Wow. All boats under 65 ft pay the same for transit? Yeah, that will stop most smaller boat from going through the canal. But it will increase the number of cruisers going around South America. Although someone with a 50 ft cat can probably afford the transit. There sure are a lot of half million $$$ plus cruising boats now.
Excellent episode -- QUESTION -- Thomas, can you explain your view on protected skeg rudders vs twin rudders or single spade unprotected rudders? I can't decide if this is a real issue. I keep hearing that if you circumnavigate then you "must" have a protected rudder or you are gambling with your safety. The youtube site Cat Circles has a new Outremer 55 and they had a huge rudder problem in Indonesia (hit a reef). Ditto for several other Catamarans. Is this not an issue for you?? What is your thinking on this.
Thomas, can you please do a deep dive, extensive episode on rudders and "blue water" sailboats. Really get into the issues please. If we do the Inside Passage to Alaska, which is known for tree logs, would you be scared with an unprotected rudder? What about South East Asia. Lots of bumping into things... Please dive into this issue and settle it once and for all. It really is the most pressing issue for people starting out. Think Kraken yachts, who constantly go on about their Zero Keel and protected rudder.

Can’t wait to watch you transit the canal ! Wishing you all the best Thomas!!
Fair winds ⛵️
Always interesting to walk the docks. Thank you for posting.
Thanks Thomas like everyone else looking forward to your Pacific travels!
Thank you for update. Cant wait to see you in Pacific.

most interesting perspective - thanks Thomas, don't get this keen insight anywhere else

Super interesting views of the different boat designs. And ironic that the catamaran type is coming home to the Pacific

The intrepid single-hander, circumnavigating in a 26' homebuilt might soon fade off into legend only. The big cats are taking over.
I am so excited for you Thomas and for us, the viewers of your channel.
Can’t wait for the canal videos! Thank you
So excited for your crossing so many years in the making! Love that njad and yea the poor monos seem to be getting outnumbered these days
I'm so happy you are through this bottleneck!
Looking Forward to Be Free turning the page to the Pacific Adventures. Fair Winds 😎

Look forward to seeing you around our waters. Surprised you could not fix your Yamaha outboard. André in Sydney
Good one
What to see more

Yes the salty candy from Holland is the best 💯👍. 🍻
Double zoute and salmiak are my favorites.

You have to be the first non-dutch person that likes drop!
B free
Were you the only Bavaria there ?
During his jetty tour I spotted at least one Bavaria Vision.
shame, sailing, like other, has become high teck, big bucks
Can I sail around the world on a Dufour 42 grand large?

Thank you.let me watch the video and learn more
Finally, let's make boat watching a regular thing, if I had my pick at that marina it would be the Chris White 72...with money from heaven.
First, can't wait.
Cat's are so bloody boring to look at, shame about the trend towards bigger and bigger and catamarans, but hey, whatever floats your boat.
The more performance oriented cats have better proportions. Cats like Outremer, Balance and Marsaudon Composites. And there are of course more brands than just these three.

I went through last year on my 34 ft boat, no way was I going around the bottom!

I think he covered this in his early video about why he choose his Bavaria 55.
