Hmmm, the Seal manual under "Low Voltage Battery" (p93) says that it's under the rear left seat. It says that To avoid low-voltage battery feed, the smart charging function will be actively triggered if conditions (hood closed, ignition "OFF", high voltage battery discharging allowed, and low voltage battery level lower than design value) are met. It points out that when the smart charging function is triggered, the low voltage battery is charged through the high voltage battery. It says that if "smart charging" fails, the low voltage battery may cut off the vehicle's power supply. It further says that if you find before use that the vehicle is not powered, try to activate the low voltage battery by pressing the driver door microswitch continuously, and immediately power on the vehicle to charge the low-voltage battery. It is recommended to charge it for more than 1 hour. Ah, it may be tempting to jump start it but a caution in the manual says "Do not jump-start the vehicle with another fuel vehicle, as this may damage the starter iron battery."
@@scott1198 What you've described might be a different Low Voltage battery scenario. For my case, my EV battery is charged to 100% and the smaller 12V battery is also working fine. The car just decides to go into that deep sleep for whatever reason.
Many many thanks. Your video helped me in an urgent situation. Adding to that, my trunk was also half opened and stucked. The same scenario happened for me two weeks ago. We had the two back doors and boot open for 45 mins while packing for a holiday. I opened the drivers door and there was enough power to automatically move the drivers seat back, but when I went to start the car everything was dead! It was out of hours for our local BYD EV service centre, so I called for roadside assistance. Unfortunately the technician that arrived had never seen a Seal and didn't even know where the 12v battery was stored. I show him :-). He eventually tested the 12v battery (it was flat), then put a jump-pack on it which allowed me to start the car. He could see the battery was being charged, but I wasn't confident to take the car away for the holiday and possibly be stranded away from further assistance. I spoke with the BYD service centre the following Monday morning and was then told about the 'Safe Mode' restart procedure ( 5 pushes on the drivers' door button), they booked the car in and checked the battery and charging system and found no problems. I now carry a battery jump-pack in the frunk. Three main points from this experience 1. It would have saved a lot of frustration if the is 'Safe Mode' feature had been explained at purchase time ( or communication sent out) 2. BYD should ensure that the contractors' they use for roadside assistance are trained on the basics of BYD cars. 3. Leave the car's main power ON if you intend to have the doors open for any extended length of time. BTW. I am loving my BYD Seal Premium, having travelled over 10,000km I still feel I've purchased the best car for the price.
Wow @Batts42, thank you so much for sharing your experience with everyone. Glad you are sharing your experience and information with everyone through this video of mine. I am surprised to read that your roadside assistance technician tested the 12v battery and it's dead. I suspect it might be disconnected some how as the vehicle goes into deep sleep. Your scenario is exactly like mine except I didn't have roadside assistance to jump start the car, I simply do the continuous 5 button press technique, and the car revived. This tells me my 12v battery is not dead. Nevertheless, I could not agree with you more. I am still loving my BYD Seal despite all these and the best car I have every purchased.
Hello, did the problem reoccur? It happened to mine 5 times in just 1 week but he came back to life with pressing the doorknob 3 times. I suspect my 12V battery may have a problem. I contacted BYD support who will check the problem in two days, let's wait and see what happens...
Thank you for posting this. If only I had known about this tip earlier. This occurred to me several months ago after I had just finished washing the car. I had no idea why it was as dead as a door nail! It was a late Saturday afternoon so I called BYD service in desperation and they sent a roadside service contractor. Luckily I was at home so not a major inconvenience. The serviceman had previously jump started a couple of other EVs but this was his first Seal. He connected his booster battery to the jumper terminals after first removing a panel under the bonnet and the car came to life. I was a bit concerned that this might cause some damage to the electronics but it was all good. I also saw the instruction to turn the steering wheel to full left and right lock after the car was started. I haven’t had a repeat since fortunately but if I do I will try this.
BYD uk have been on a learning curve themselves, but when I tested the seal back in February, the garage did explain this to me. It hasn’t really been published since then but definitely worth a mention !
Not a good idea to turn your tyres left and right without the car moving. Wears tyres quite fast. I have been looking at this car in the UK but this is a bit worrying to me

I'm not quite sure as this is an electric car. With ICE cars, flat battery means cannot power starter motor to crank and start the engine. With electric car there is no starter motor so no sure. I am not sure, but I doubt that would make any difference. Putting the car key near the centre console key icon is basically for when the battery of the key is weak. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make the car go into safe mode to test this out, but that's a good question.

Funny, just happend to me yesterday. Was packing the car for a long trip and it just went into sleep. Called BYD customer service that gave me the tip about the microswitch on the handle. Super strange. Later during the trip the cr apod gated twice so the seal isn’t that popular at home now.
Interesting, I wonder why BYD customer service didn't tell me the tip about the button on the door handle when I called them. I had to learn it from the Reddit post. Good to see they are learning and improving. Maybe they watched my video 😜
The car manual should cover all this details. Another similar issue is the "transport mode", that will limit the car and also put it on a deep sleep mode, which I suffered just the day after I got my seal.
Yes quite a number of us encountered the issue with "transport mode". I guess BYD did the right thing by having a transport mode so their crew won't take the car for a joy ride. They just need to set that mode to never come up when the car is delivered.
This happened to me today🤔i went to the dealers to test drive a seal, the car I was test driving was a brand new twin motor seal with just delivery miles on the clock? The sales guys face was a picture as he had to do the door buttons etc to sort this problem, he was not amused when I said it wants rebooting, try kicking the tyres, but in saying that I did put my deposit on the car and take delivery this friday
I did a vinyl wrap of my Seal and during the 3 days of wrapping (and inactivity), the car went into sleep mode. Like your Seal, mine refused to power up. However, by placing the key near the door handle, and then pressing the lock button on the door handle, it woke the car up.
Nah, I don't think safe mode is designed for this purpose. Better to ask BYD what to do when leaving the car parked for extended periods of time. I would leave it in normal state rather than safe mode, so my mobile byd app can still reach and check on the car.
as per the manual, if leaving the car for an extended time, leave it charged between 40% and 60% (page 93) When the vehicle is not to be operated for an extended period (over 7 days), it is recommended that the battery SOC should be kept at 40%-60% to prolong its service life. When the vehicle is not to be operated for over 3 months, the power battery must be fully charged and then discharged to 40%-60% every 3 months. Otherwise, over- discharge may result, leading to battery performance degradation or even damage. Any vehicle fault or damage so caused will not be covered by the quality warranty.
Hi my BYD is completely dead, I tried all the steps mentioned, I have faced the issue where the car goes to safe mode, this time the car would not even unlock I sued the manual key to unlock the door kept the key inside the center console but the car would not turn on at all, very unfortunate, called the dealer to come pick it up. 2024 AWD model, 3000 km only. Thanks for sharing this valuable information. I am also a SEAL owner. Anyone knows how to solve this problem and get the car alive, if we don't have the physical key with us? Most of the time I carry only the NFC card and /or the smartphone with BYD app.
Hi it’s not a deep sleep It’s simply a flat 12v battery . This will happen to any vehicle EV or ICE if you leave doors open or lights on without the vehicle running Problem with an EV 12v battery is it is tiny in capacity compared to ICE because it doesn’t have a starter motor to drive the battery only needs to power up the vehicle management systems and once power they will look after the recharge of the 12v battery BYD (if it doesn’t have it already) needs to update it software to include 12v battery management option when the car is switched off like Hyundai/Kia Hope this makes sense
A 'deep sleep' eh, sort of like an animal going into hibernation during winter. Handy that BYD don't have a notice flash up on the screen when this happens............. ah but it's in a deep sleep so it can't. Good thinking BYD.
Our centre screen decided to stay dark whilst parked in nroad daylight for 30 minutes with me inside. When powered up the screen stayed so dark it was almost impossible to see any options. I had to use voice command for navigation home. The driver's screen was unaffected. Wtf ???
That must have been a stressful situation. Quite unnecessary since if it is a function for servicing, it should be in the main infotainment or a dedicated button placed out of sight.
Yes it was pretty scary and worrying when that happened to me, so I made this video to share with everyone. I still don't quite precisely know how this deep sleep was triggered. Only knew it's something to do with the hood or boot.
If only I'd known this with my 24 y.o.ICE 4WD.... oh wait, I never had such stupid issues. TBF though, I did have a issue, when the original lead-acid battery gave up after 19 years. Cost $200 to replace.
Oh wow, so interesting. Thanks to all of you commenting we now know this happens quite often. I almost did a jump start but luckily the reddit post saved me from all the trouble.

Problem with an EV 12v battery is it is tiny in capacity compared to ICE because it doesn’t have a starter motor to drive the battery only needs to power up the vehicle management systems and once power they will look after the recharge of the 12v battery
BYD (if it doesn’t have it already) needs to update it software to include 12v battery management option when the car is switched off like Hyundai/Kia
Hope this makes sense
A 'deep sleep' eh, sort of like an animal going into hibernation during winter. Handy that BYD don't have a notice flash up on the screen when this happens............. ah but it's in a deep sleep so it can't. Good thinking BYD.
What type byd seal u use ?
Dynamic
Our centre screen decided to stay dark whilst parked in nroad daylight for 30 minutes with me inside. When powered up the screen stayed so dark it was almost impossible to see any options. I had to use voice command for navigation home. The driver's screen was unaffected. Wtf ???
Why wasn't this mentioned in the user manual?
That must have been a stressful situation. Quite unnecessary since if it is a function for servicing, it should be in the main infotainment or a dedicated button placed out of sight.
Yes it was pretty scary and worrying when that happened to me, so I made this video to share with everyone. I still don't quite precisely know how this deep sleep was triggered. Only knew it's something to do with the hood or boot.
Hopefully this is something that can be fixed in a future firmware update.
I think it happened to Tesla cars before! And many others. You can't expect 100% no issue on any electronics, let alone a car!
Yes, all technology products will take time to improve and mature. It's not an issue if we know what's going on. Good to be in the know.
If only I'd known this with my 24 y.o.ICE 4WD.... oh wait, I never had such stupid issues. TBF though, I did have a issue, when the original lead-acid battery gave up after 19 years. Cost $200 to replace.
This has happened to me once while leaving my car doing a tinting job... The seal fell asleep.
Haha... sleepy Seal 🦭
Ooo I see..i thought my 12v battery was dead..it happened to me last week..what i did i jumped start the car..then the car start up normally..
Oh wow, so interesting. Thanks to all of you commenting we now know this happens quite often. I almost did a jump start but luckily the reddit post saved me from all the trouble.
What did U mean by jump start the car?

Just dump it and go back to ICE
Oh no no, this small little hiccup is nothing compared to the amazing benefits we can get from any EV.
only a fool buys one
Preach brother preach!
TOTAL RUBBISH
I DON'T Have this problem with my ICE
NOT Getting a PROBLEMATIC EV
normal people can recognize this is by design, totally a software functionality
You again with the ICE over EV propaganda
lol why are you here?
