  • To accommodate track reconstruction work, the Q line's Manhattan service portion was terminated at 34th St-Herald Square. Most interestingly, the original signal layout and interlocking arrangement here did not support the ability for a train to terminate at 34th St and return back north. Through the technical ingenuity and skills of the MTA's in-house signal engineers, the interlocking was modified to allow trains to turn around here in 1992. Enjoy this look at an excellent operation, made possible by the impressive talent of the MTA's signal department employees!
