Just seen a vid on Alec Steele's channel where he used welding rods to make Damascus and they turned into hexagons. could be a good idea for a futuristic looking Damascus sword.
So... Were you really bored and decided to make something ridiculous or were people constantly asking you to do this and you finally got tired of the whining?
The fact that he put that much work in the memiest sword I've seen in a while just amazes me, like true mastersmith dna, this was just for giggles but was flawlessly constructed, other channels don't put the effort even in their main builds.
You say goofy but Kyle made everything other detail besides the blade correct...... Also he did it with Harbor Freight tools which I think shows how its not the tool but the person
This is proof that even at his least serious, Kyle is far better at making sharp things than I will ever be. Also, did he deliberately choose the slowest and most infuriating ways of doing things for this vid?
I think it's more showing you can make cool stuff too, everything he used was very easily and relatively cheap to obtain to the normal person as opposed of using large purpose built machines... just my observation
This Is the most elegant MAKESHIFT approach to make an unnecessarily complicated Zombie-Apocalypse katana, made by a guy that usually makes GOD LEVEL LEGENDARY ITEMS FOR NO REASON
I expected this video to be shorter when I clicked on it. I thought you'd attach the razor blades and immediately try it, but you went into great detail on what I assumed to be a pretty bad sword. The best of it all is that not even for 1 second was I ever bored watching this video, and I was pleasantly surprised when you proved my assumption on the quality of the sword wrong. And that last edit with you cutting the mat with the grunting sounds and then rewinding it was *chef's kiss*. 10/10
@@jamesbizsbecause just because something is sharp doesn't mean it will cut tatami mats. It's got plenty of very slightly misaligned corners that can catch on things, and razor blades are flimsy as hell so it surprised me that they held up for more than one cut without snapping in half. Of course it's going to be sharp, but cutting through tatami mats takes sturdiness too.
man, feel like this would have been a perfect video to uploaded on 1st of april, but still the attention to detail is hilariously good !! keep up the good work
There is something so mesmerizing about the fact that you made a classic Katana in the traditional style (stingray skin handle, etc.) and then made the blade out of utility knives. So cool!
I only realised today I wasn’t subscribed to you, as someone who also works with metal, the sheer time and effort to get the finish on what you do and for it to be technically immaculate is nothing but a stunning achievement of discipline and I almost feel people don’t appreciate that aspect for the way you almost make what is incredibly hard to do to look naturally effortless, regardless of inherent talent, it is consistency over years with unwavering focus.
thing is, this is actually genius for a zombie-apocalypse situation, where the main weakness of a katana as a melee weapon(vs zombies) is its durability, a fully replaceable blade completely solves that problem. razors like that usually come in oiled-up packs, too, so you would likely find them in still usable condition for several years.
You’ve sparked the idea, now you have to make the most finely crafted katana the worlds seen. Combine your perfectionism and flare for the dramatic in the steel and make a katana an ancient Japanese lord would make you untouchable for.
Kyle, you're such an artist at heart, you can't even make a piece of crap without making it perfect. Also, quite the comedian too. Great video. Great slow-mo shots. You truly are an artist. Best knife maker in the world! 💪
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!! This video is a testament to the notion of, just because you are the best at something and make amazing art, doesn't mean that you can't be a goofy guy! I LOVE how you have become more and more comfortable in front of the camera over the years. And I love how much more goofy the edits keep getting! Keep it up, Kyle and Josh!
This is one of the funniest videos I’ve seen on RUclips. The fact it’s such a silly idea but you shot the whole video silently when your other vids are on very serious artisanal masterpieces full of your goofy jokes is just the beginning. This is the comedy version of the incredible knives you normally make, 10/10
I had that idea ages ago, but was too afraid of wasting time on a project that I wasn't sure would even work correctly. Thank you so much for disproving my pessimistic hypothesis. Now I totally won't make a similar style dagger for conceal carrying..... (Sorry if my English is bad by the way)
This is hilarious and had me laughing out loud all the way through, BUT it's also a testament to how the right tool is often the one you have. Every goofy fab decision in this video had a lovely result. Thanks for all the great content!
That was the perfect silent video with the right amount of comedy. A really good watch for a really fun build! It really shows that you enjoyed making and filming this haha
It is amazing that even for a "goofy" project you manage to keep the quality of the build top-notch. Amazing work, would love to see a series of a katana same as Excelsior and The Griffin Sword.
Amazing video quality and editing. Loved it. Nothing serious, but great idea. I would love to see more of such crazy, unpractical, uglybutbeautiful concepts no one would have thought about.
Now all your fans will want to see you do a serious katana build. You looked like you had a lot of fun with that, and we would love to see how you’d both honor the traditions of Japanese sword making, while incorporating your own unique style!
Dude, Josh Royer is killing it with a few of those filming shots. The camera slide with the sanding grind was awesome, but the slow-mo filing of the copper is my favorite. So awesome!
the razors flying around the workspace made me nervous for this whoooole video LOL. Really neat industrial look! This thing is way too dangerous, though, man. 😂 One errant swing and you're cooked. also, very funny. loved the clap-to-open hood gag.
On the one hand, I won't even suggest this departure from the usual format wasn't enjoyable; in fact, I very much liked the cinematography of this unusual (for Kyle) video. I'd even go so far as to claim that I now understand the things Kyle did (does) without needing him to explain every step. On the other hand, I'd very much be lying if I said I didn't miss Kyle's explanation/narration of the process (he has a very soothing voice...).
What a fun watch! On paper it sounds so dumb (and it still is, kinda) but the finished product looks VERY cool and it was a treat to see you do a little tsuka binding. Thanks, K!

Somewhere in Japan, a blacksmith that studied all his life to learn traditional katana making just had a stroke.

If you could do this you aren't unemployed as you could definitely make nice money from smithing and making content, but yes, funny joke

Of course it does! Who else in the world would have the patience to carve and refine slots for the disposable blades? 😂

The fact you pull it off with small/hand versions of shop tools you could get at local store is a nice nod to the enthusiast starting out.
