I purchased SD3 yesterday not knowing exactly what to expect. My expectations are now somewhere miles behind in the dirt - it all sounds incredible. And when I say "all", I mean all. There are no throwaway kits in this collection as I've found with other drum software companies. There are no throwaway features, either, from effects to drum replacement, it's all of the highest quality and usability. Thank you to Toontrack for doing this right and getting the best man for the job, George Massenburg. George, you nailed it. Wow.
Yeah that’s a good point, I know a lot of drum simulator kits and love many of them but I always “throw away” some kits but in this case I can use every single drum from every kit, it never fails whatever style u want
This is a serious deal, i bought mine 2 weeks ago it's the bomb. People should stop cracks this is not an easy thing to put together. Just in the beginning of watching this video i realize that the money was not worth it with all the tons of quality drums you'll get. Thanks Toontrack for all the hard work.
This guy really killed it. What an Awesome guy!! This guy's work is really awesome. I love his work. Special thanks to George Massenburg for his work and for Toontrack for creating such an amazing product and their sounds!! :)
Don't complain about this, he did all of the professional works, so you didn't have to. He and his team has saved you literally thousands and thousands of dollars by providing a comprehensive package that only a select few have the pleasure of experiencing. Be humble and thankful for the opportunity to sound professional from your DAW. If Roland and Toontrack collaborated together they could potentially revolutionize electronic drumming forever, please remember me when this happens. Cheers mates and happy drumming!
Love seeing a 902 on the kick for such a high end session. I never understood why you never see them, in amongst all the Beta 52s, Audix D6s and AKG D112s. Wildly underrated mic for kick, low toms, and bass cabs.
I can imagine that you'd have a hard time keeping it in phase by recording a full kit but since they're recording piece by piece I don't see how this would be an issue as you can phase match individual hits digitally. Just my take, might be wrong!
Does anyone know which microphones in this setup are the "amb mid" microphones? I thought it was the EHRTs but it seems like they are only using two and there is an stereo "amb mid" and a stereo "amb near" channel in the mixer and I am trying to work out what hte difference is between the two in terms of their placement in the room.
Anybody know what mics they used on the "Amb Near" channel and "Amb Mid"? I also seen in a list of micks best for SD3 that they had Sennheiser e902 ?! Picture of the rigg also reveal SM47 are used on snare, but it could of cos just be a photo taken during try-outs.
Amb Near and Amb Mid are both the Ehrlund EHR-T. This is a dual diaphragm mic and each records 2 channels. The Sennheiser E902 was used as the inside kick mic. The final choice on the top snare mic was a Sennheiser 431 that Mr Massenburg has owned for many years.
Nah, The Beatles were over-produced, everyone knows recording with one mic to wax cylinder was perfectly fine. Also, I'm only using this computer because my carrier pigeon recently met a grisly demise. Also, last I checked, I don't think The Beatles weren't recording a drum sample library.
Oh, and I LOVE the 'George Massenburg is a hardware salesman' sentiment! Guy literally invented the parametric EQ, architecturally designed world-class recording studios, and engineered 40+ years of records... How's that 4-track cassette demo of yours coming along? Reckon we'll hear it by 2020?

For me George is one of the greatest, If he will have a mixing course I will immediately enrol

George is one of my top 3 engineer heroes.

When a man makes something with that type of sparkle in his eyes it has got to be good.
Especially, when it's The Man...
The Drum miking Savant.
so in a way, when i make a drum track, he produced it?
How do you keep all that in perfect phase?!

In what configuration was the stereo pair of snare bottom microphones recorded?
Getting the phase right must have been a nightmare.
How did you keep kit's position stable during recording without a carpet beneath it?
The drums have very good feet, and the wooden floor of Galaxy does not slide. But as you can see, there is a small carpet underneath the kick.

Hi, Info on Mics and signal chains can be found at www.toontrack.com/product/superior-drummer-3/ and then click to get to the part called "The Studio"

And he never said "Fuck" is it exactly George? )))
now just the rest of the band record an album and call it a day !!
Im selling all my mic's as we speak..... lol
THE FUTURE!
Not in DSD, why not?
Because it's too complicated. They kept it simple with PCM. Isn't it what you preach all day long? (Sorry, couldn't resist to troll the troll.)
@@rdoursenaud it's not for ones that know what they are doing...they just want to not spend money on real equipment
CENGEB GO SUCK A MIC
Mic salesman
cengeb is a troll / bot/ should be blocked!
The Beatles recorded with 4 mics! this guy is a goofball
I reckon the Beatles would have loved Superior Drummer 3
There's more than one way to skin a drum. That said, Ringo's tone was top notch.
Of course he is. A regular Berry Gordy, or Sam Phillips. Or George Martin.....not. More like a hardware salesman.

Guy is way over intense over nothing....
Superior Drummer 3 sounds really good in a mix, see the examples people have made, so he can be intense if he wants to be in my opinion
The world could use a little more enthusiasm.
Too cool for school?
Idk, if someone gave me over $40k worth in microphones to use in a room like that, I'd use every single one of them
