Great review I am waiting for my 75 mm f2 to arrive for my Nikon Zf from Pergear and inspired by your review will add the f1.5 Biotar derisive as funds allow ! 😊

The CMS20 jab absolutely made my day

The quality of these new lenses and accessories from China (TTArtisan, 7Artisans Thypoch... Reflx Lab too!) is really impressive.
Focus shift is putting me off the M mount version a bit, but if it turns out to be similarly priced I think I'll definitely be trying it.

I'm not sure it's a deal breaker any more than it should be for a fast 50 in M mount. Any of the f/1.2 or faster 50s without a FLE design see the same thing, it's just something to be aware of!
How much it matters for this particular lens design remains to be seen. I'd love to try a copy but I also wonder about rangefinder blockage.

For anyone wanting to try out a lens with a swirly bokeh on a Nikon mount, there is a guy in Ukraine that will adjust a Helios 44-2 to make it fit. Great video and a well priced lens!

Great review ! Really want to try this out some time. Just to let you know, a preset aperture is not exactly the same thing as a fully manual aperture, which this lens has. A preset aperture let's you set a limit to how far you can close down the lens beforehand, say f/8, open up the aperture to focus and compose and then close it down, all without raising your eye from the viewfinder. A good example of this would be the Helios-44-2 or the Lydith 30mm.

Have been playing with this lens, nice to take my Helios swirl look to 75mm. Its maybe too damped to me but way smoother than the helios and the images render that romantic look beautifully as you said

I prefer to shoot film with modern lenses (my dream lens right now is the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II, which I’d use exclusively on my Elan 7 - I hate Canon digital cameras!), but I’m definitely picking up one of these in the future to make some swirly portraiture on the GFX 50R!!!

Oh I adored that 35 f/1.4 L II; a truly magical lens. I was lucky with how cheaply I got mine a few years back. I hope you enjoy this on the 50R!

Should just revive the adaptall mount xD
Then it would also be adaptable to F or OM mount ^_^

I would argue Tamron's Adaptall system is far surperior, and was actually pretty awesome - it provided aperture and meter coupling with all mounts. Way better than a basic M42 to (whatever) adapter.,

Theres some Kodak stopping sales of cinema film bulk rolls drama apparently.
That is a disaster basically, especially in places where regular film is expensive.
And no more projects like HAS65 that remove remjet from Visions

I would love to see them make an autofocus version of this. I'd buy it for $200 more. There's no autofocus lens with this kind of characteristic that I know of.

I would have bought it if it came in F mount. I’m more interested in using this on my F mount film cameras than on my Z mount mirrorless.

Old, famous lens designs being rereleased by third parties has been really great lately, though I never paid attention to the 75mm focal length. But for this price it really can't be beat
Did a double take with "Shakacolour 200" lol
One quick thing, I do notice that people have been using 70-90mm portrait lenses for FF on digital MF and even 645 cameras. One notable one I remember was some flickr user adapting a Zeiss 85mm 1.4 to a Pentax 645D. Would you say the image circle for this lens is that wide? I'm never sure whether people have to try a bunch of lenses to see if they cover or whether certain focal lengths/designs work best.
"CMS 20, you're in your own kind of weird corner anyway..."
_me with CMS 20 loaded in my camera right now:_ *shuffles away*

I wouldn't think it's wide enough for 645 based on my gut feeling about the vignetting but it might cover at some distances.

I would have bought this for my M2, but the focus shift is… dubious, difficulty of returns and the time and cost required to test it on film also turn me off. I suppose my 90 2.8 Probably gets a fairly similar image anyway

it won't get the swirl, you either love it or hate it but this lens sits next to a few biotar replicas that perform and render bokeh in a way that entrances you on the center at the right distance.

I'm incredibly happy that there's a new lens I can easily use on my M42 and Pentax K film bodies.
