    Wow. I had one of these back in 1987. It survived me flying it a few times. When I moved to a new city I gave it to a fellow RC pilot … he flew it a few more years. Beautiful airfield and flying here by this pilot. 🙌

    I ordered my first stick shortly after Phil Kraft put them on the market ! Through all the planes of all types I kept an Ugly Stick in the pack and on my 79th birthday flight with dozens to pick from I took the stick out! Great flying Dave!

    I love this airframe. And the skill level on display in this video is just something else! I had a Big Stik 40 with a 46AX, sadly I crashed it. I was completely heartbroken over that little plane, So much so that my wife bought me a 60- size one. Got a lovely Saito 91 that needs an airframe. This awesome video is just what I needed! Thanks, guys!

    I still have my Big Stik 40 with an OS LA .46(which really brings this bird to life). I Built back in 2006 and flew it till she needed to many repairs to fly again and I put it up and got into alot of other aircraft, even fpv multirotors and forgot it for years. But recently I "rebuilt" it with new radio and have been bit by the "bug" again lol. Boy, these things were meant for the air! I just wish I could fly mine the way you do! Your a great rc pilot and thanks again for the inspiration sir!

    Great flying. Interested in the total flying weight. Thanks

    • @davemcddd
      @davemcddd 2 года назад +1

      The Big Stik 40 ARF weighs 5 lbs, 6.5 oz. without fuel. Normally I put around 6 ounces of fuel in the tank for each flight, which would add another 5.5 ounces of weight at the start of the flight. So total takeoff weight would be 5 lbs, 12 oz.

    • @stephenhughcrisp
      @stephenhughcrisp 2 года назад

      Thanks Dave. About 150 g lighter than mine. I have the Saito FG 11 in mine, which is quite heavy with the CDI unit. Need to fly a little faster than you do. Great video. Thanks

    • @davemcddd
      @davemcddd 2 года назад +1

      The engine is an OS 46 AX. The prop is an APC 12x4. A great combination for sport type planes.

      @@davemcddd Thanks for the reply, I'm flying a Sig cougar propeller 11/6, have you tried the 11/6??

    • @davemcddd
      @davemcddd 2 года назад +1

      @@jannovak2234 Yes, I've tried several different brands of 11x6 props on 46 size engines, including the 46AX. But I prefer the way the APC 12x4 performs. There isn't much, if any, difference in the top speed performance, but the 12x4 has more pull at slower speeds, such as takeoff, vertical climbs, and accelerating out of high drag aerobatic maneuvers.

    • @jannovak2234
      @jannovak2234 2 года назад

      @@davemcddd Thank you very much, my Sig cougar has a Force 46 engine with an 11/6 propeller, the cougar is heavy as a pig, I tried ten on seven, ten on eight but with 11/6 the best,, I will also try your APC 12/4 ... or 12/5 .... Are you also using Hiteck 422 servos?

    • @davemcddd
      @davemcddd 2 года назад +1

      @@jannovak2234 12x5 is too much prop for a 46, but the 12x4 works great. I'm not really a fan of using Hitec servos in any of my planes. This Big Stick 40 ARF has Futaba 9202 servos on the ailerons and elevator, a Futaba 3001 on the rudder, and a Tower Hobbies TS-53 on the throttle, which is really just a Futaba 3003 with a different label.
