We made this wine rack DIY for Katelyn’s parents and really love how it turned out! It’s floor to ceiling and makes a big statement. We liked the look of wood and metal too. All in all this was really simple, just a lot of repetition when it came to adding the deck balusters because there were so many, but we thought it was a great alternative to embedding metal rods if you’re working with limited tools. Overall, very happy with this wood wine rack DIY especially when we compare the “after” to the “before!”
Did y'all know we have *4 channels* now? This main one, plus:

(still figuring this one out 😂)
Now I just need a 10 foot wall, and a wine collection...
Or an 8 foot ceiling and a water bottle display shelf 😋😉
@@EvanAndKatelyn And a tall ladder....
What’s the measurements on the walnut you used?
I have a 28ft dining room with double stacked windows. This is definitely going in there, thanks y’all.
I have a 28ft dining room with double stacked windows. This is definitely going in there, thanks y’all.
Next project idea: a climbing wall to get to the top shelf bottles! Looks awesome and easy to make!
Hahaha! Wonder how the parents would feel about that one... 😋 Thanks! Also was great hanging out and chatting this weekend!
Library ladder!!!!
just some bouldering grips on the sides of the wood 😁 Let them sweat for their booze I say!
aww so heartwarming when your dad said “it’s really, really somethin” 😭
I had a proud daughter moment!
When?

Your dad saying “Look at all this wood honey” made my heart melt, sooooo sweet!
Pesky wine guy here, with some wine-care advice. I recognize many of the wines on that great wine rack and know that they are not cheap wines. The issue with your rack design is in its height - and the higher temperatures that wines will be subjected to near the top of the rack. Wines subjected to higher (than the recommended 55°) will age more quickly than optimally desired. My advice for this rack: Either store empties, or those wines that you don't care as much about, at the top - and best wines at the bottom. Cheers!
Thank you for the tips, that's really helpful!
Not if you drink them fast enough ;)
Isn't it important to keep a stable temperature too ? I wouldn't try to age my bottles like this, too much light and temperature changing.
As long as they stay under 80 degrees and are not aged already they should be fine. I'm guessing these are all going to be consumed within several months.
put doors on it, install small electronic ac bam all fixed lol
lol Seeing your dad's reaction to it was really sweet 💕 and funny, ✨ "Everyone's gonna want one." 😆 I can just imagine your uncles visiting and asking for their own fancy shelves haha
Haha it's already started to happen!
Katelyn could voice Toad any time xD
And the shelves look like they just belong there, this is where they live. Good job you two! :)
Plus, it is both cat-certified AND dad-approved, so I guess bragging rights are a thing now. >.>
"I'm the best!" (That was in my best today voice) Thank you!!!
♫"Sand in the place where...your parents...live..."♫ Great vid!
Hahaha!! The remix! 😋
Sanding time reminded me of William Osman's Laser time! Love it!
haha William was our inspiration! We need to do another collab with him sometime....
3:38 I honestly thought that was a drill bit that got stuck in the wood and Evan was sarcastically saying "Nice!".
Bahahaha 😂😂
That’s the lumber yard I go to for special projects!!!!! Love that place.
Oh that's awesome!
Clever clever with the combination square + masking tape marking. Ya'll are the king of clever masking tape jigging
Thank you! It saved us a ton of time!
That looks fantastic! Love how simple it is
Thanks so much Tamar!
Love the part about how now all the family members will want one.... sooo trueeee! haha
Haha I'm sure y'all deal with the same thing!
I dabble in a lot of different crafts and no matter what I make, there is always at least one person who wants me to make them the same thing!
Just realised I was about to *_wine_* about that old sad Pinus rack 🤣
This build is awesome, can't wait to try something like this!
Haha! Thank you!
Been watching you guys for a while now. I have to say, you guys make "making" fun! It's good to see channels like this grow because they deserve it!
Thank you so much! Making making fun is one of our goals 😁😁
I am *obsessed* with this project!! I don’t drink wine but can you imagine vintage and colored bottles with some up lighting or a warm white LED strip hidden on the back of the wood!!!🤔😃 May have to do this one. Thanks once again y’all!! xoxo
Thank you!
That looks amazing!! Loved how your parents got to get in there and help!! 💞💞
it almost looks as optical illusion when Katelyn is standing next to it :D
That's lovely but I would put a few bottles of wine on it, then my Mrs would fill the rack with shoes 😂
Haha that'd be a good use too!
First look at the wine rack and my first thought was it’s SO TALL! Oh I get it put the good stuff up top so no one can drink it unless they want a ladder 😂
haha exactly! keep it out of reach! :P
I've yet to figure out how one starts a wine collection. I just seem to buy and drink, buy and drink. Even more so in this damned lockdown period. Then again I am Scottish so day drinking, even wine, is applauded and not frowned upon. Ahwoohoo.
You buy multiple bottles. Expensive fancy bottles to store and pop at a fancy party dinner and cheaper ones you drink constantly
Hi guys love the friction fit idea, most people would think it would not work, but prof is in the working design. Nice job guys
Thank you so much! It ended up working out well!
Making stuff for your parents is so nice guys!
It was really fun too!
This is exactly what I'm looking to build! It's fabulous and simple enough that I feel that I can do it myself! Thank you!
Good luck!
At 3:55, that is the face of confidence plastered over doubt. I love you guys! Evan, Stay Fancy.
Hahaha! Thank you! Fancy always
That is awesome!! Love the simple clean design!!! Great meeting you guys at the NYC Maker Faire yesterday! I'm sure I was super awkward (Still not great at meeting new people, working on it) but you were both super sweet.
Thanks so much and it was so great to meet you too 😁👋
Yep, impressive! Love the idea of using deck ballasters. So simple...well, until the clamping part.
Thank you! Haha overall, still would do it again, they weren't too hard once we got the hang of it
Your videos make me sad AND happy, sad because i had a relationship like this, and happy cuz now i know what im looking for in a relationship :)
😭❤️
The 0:45 effect is hilarious xD Great video and awesome work as always guys!
Haha thank you!! That was fun to film
Haven't seen that much wine in one place since I went to a winery in Bordeaux many years ago. It's good you didn't bottle up your emotions. And those are exceptionally high ceilings!
Haha it was a lot of wine!
I know this is an old video, but for things like the molding you could use a contour gauge to get super accurate results.
That looks seriously cool! And it’s practical. I‘m in love 😄
Thank you so much!
Genius! My dad needs one he's got bottles all over the kitchen.
Thank you! It's a really nice way to organize them!
Such a clever solution with the metal balustrades. Great project!!
Thank you!
Awesome result! Makes you want to try all the wines one by one. Your parents must be very very proud and happy!!!
Thank you! They really loved it!
That is a really big wine collection. I do not drink, so I am only guessing that it is large. Awesome job, guys!!
Amazing, walnut is just such a pretty piece of wood
Thank you! It really is pretty
Seriously hope they don't live in earthquake country. If they do, can you put up a video of their wine and glass wading pool after the next good tremor? (Nice build BTW. Love the walnut.)
No earthquakes here! Thank you 😁😁
LOL. I thought that would be fantastic to make... and then, I realized that I live in San Francisco, California...
@@quirkysaucy get some fancy zip ties, hydro dip them in a walnut woodgrain paint, then make a fancy name tag and tasting note for each wine and sip it around the tie before tieing each bottle down to its rail
You should get a contour- gouge thing that when you push it against the trim it makes that shape and you can trace it on your wood piece
We only drink ONE wine. I definitely need a rack like this! Love your videos guys! ❤️
Thank you!
that wine rack is definitely not something to wine about
eeeeeehhh hehe that was pretty good
lol
love a good pun :)
Alan Greenman I WOOD beg to differ but your statement WINDS up being true
@@teahtuggle9203 glad you liked it
Okay, so I didn't wait until I got home...... Awesome job on the wine racks! 😍 I loved the video too! 😃 Super fun and lots of cool effects!👍👍👊👊
Thank you Fred! Glad you like it!
Love it! I’ll have to recommend this video to some of my clients. Thanks
Whenever they apply varnish they act like they are in heaven and so do i !
Oh yeah, going with the top hat fancy! They came out so beautifully and fit the spot perfectly! Fabulous job as always! And now I'm off to watch the After Show for some shenanigans!!
Haha top hat fancy is the most fancy! So glad you like the project!
Love that Wipe-On Poly, it's my favorite Minwax product. Great choice on the wood, Walnut is a awesome material. I've worked with Cherry wood and when you put the Wipe-On Poly on it the red in the Cherry wood comes through. You guys did a awesome job. I really enjoyed this project a lot. Also keep up the amazing content guys.
It's one of our faves too, so easy and so satisfying to just pour it on and wipe it around haha. Haven't ever used it on cherry before, that's good to know about the red coming through. Thank you!!
Anytime EvanAnd Katelyn
Nice job. You guys have a flare for design. Looks really good.
thank you!
Brilliant, this just what im looking to build in my dinning room 😁
Thank yoU! Good luck on the build!
That's a lot of wine right there...! 😍 Can't stop watching all your stuff at the mo, great work!
Haha too much wine! So glad you're liking the videos :D
This inspires me to both build a giant wine rack and my wine collection! I love how monolithic it is \m/
Thank you! And good luck!
some serious energy. very nice
Walnut is my favorite wood, the wine rack looks great!
It's our fave too!
Walnut wood is pretty and walnuts taste good.
Now my wife and I have a new project for our ever growing list.
This came out so good! I'm impressed to see so many bottles stacked in such a slim vertical space! 🥂 Nice to see the Instructables notebooks in action too! 🤖
Thank you so much!! Haha we love those notebooks 😁👍🤖
Nicely done! Simple and elegant.
By simple, I mean the design, not the assembly. ;)
With those shelves and that seemingly large door, it makes katelyn look like Alice in wonderland! Loved this one, nice work (:
Hahaha! I was definitely feeling mini!
Who think they should have a snapchat to inform us of little bittle hints of the next vids. Speaking of the vids, i adore them. Thanks.
We post sneak peaks on Instagram and Twitter and Patreon 😁👍 Glad you like the videos!
stand in supurrvisor is really cute!
She is! But don't tell the Supurrvisor that 😸🤫
Whoever edits the vids does a great job.
Thanks! Usually it's Katelyn but every now and then we have a fellow RUclipsr and friend help us and he edited this one! His channel is 3D Sage: ruclips.net/user/artsage1
Those wine racks are twice taller than K. 🤣
But they look awesome! Great job, guys!
This will totally be amazing for my parents too!! 😁🍷
That thing is massive. Looks great!
Thanks Scott! It's a big one!
so it's two katelyn's tall and a the cutest supurrvisor ever!
She was a purrfect stand-in supervisor!
I love it 🥰
Looked like enough room there to build a third one if you slid the other two over. Great build!
Yeah that's true! Thanks!
So cool. What an amazing gift for your parents. Tell them to consume from the top down. No step stools after a few bottles of wine. 😁
Haha that's good advice!
The tempurrary supurrviver is so cute
The wine rack goes well in the room.
Thank you!
Hiya Even & Katelyn,
I am so Hooked.
I value Your sense of "Team-Spirit"..
I wish I was wealthy... I would donate every dime I have to support your projects
Aw thank you so much for the kind words! So glad you like the videos! ❤️❤️
Wow ! That wine cellar is awesome, but Im from Chile and the first I wonder if it's going to withstand an earthquake
This project is GRAPE! Its rare you make something that even dwarfs Evan. Im not your uncle, can I have one? :P
Hahaha, nice one! Yes it is QUITE tall!
Love LOVE love!!!!
Thank you!!
Great video! I think Katelyn can double as a voice actor for Toad at nintendo. Also loved all the special effects haha
Hahaha! If this RUclips thing doesn't work out... 😉😋
At 1:00 I was expecting Evan to say, "I'd like to take a moment to talk about shop safety. Be sure to read, understand and follow all the safety rules that come with your power tools. Knowing how to use your power tools properly will greatly reduce the risk of personal injury. And remember this: There is no other more important safety rule than to wear these safety glasses."
Haha! He had his safety instructor voice on
That turned out awesome!
Thank you!
Fun to see uncle rat in person!
It looks perfect and it has the added benefit of storing the expensive wine at the top where no one can reach it! hehe
Thank you! Haha yeah that's a good idea to put the pricey stuff up top!
Awesomeness! great job guys.
Thanks!
Amazing. Might have to steal this idea to put above the wife's current wine fridge.
You should definitely steal it! 😁😁
Beautiful project and a fun video, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!
You guys are awesome 👍🏼 thanks for another great video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! Glad you like the video!
Great Idea
Guys you're so good at building you should sell these things that you make
That looks as good as it looks impractical
Nice design guys! Really like the lines and the flare.... poor uncles... 😿
Thank you! Haha too many uncle's 😋
this looks so amazing! Great job yall!
Thank you!
Great built, I am building a very similar rack!
That's awesome! Good luck on your build 😁👍
If you added rolling library ladders then it would be easier to reach stuff and it would look cool like a wine library
Well done , I prefer to buy wooden dowels instead of balusters , witch is cheaper , easier to do and at the end looks similar to the side woods, but what you did is awesome.
That's a good idea too! My parents wanted the wood+metal look but dowels would look great also
Great job guys
Thank you!
Based on the end of the video, Katelyn is 5'3"ish and Evan is a fair 6'9" ? Great build you guys, time to enjoy some wine!
Haha! Evan is 6'5 and I'm 5'6
The amount of wine they have is insane
Awesome! This would be amazing to separate spaces x] good work guys!
Ooooo yeah that'd be really cool, you could mount it to the ceiling and floor!
Making one!!!
Nice job! You could have done this with 3 upright boards though. Or you could have spaced each rack farther away and then put bars between the two racks (giving you an additional rack to fill later).
We considered 3 but the screws would have hit each other unless we staggered them, which we didn't wanna do
Imagine the cat knocked over the wine 😱
😹😹
I frickin love this!
Thank you!
Just realizing this but somewhere out there is a kid who'll definitely want to climb that rack.
