08:45 : Lower Cutoff means it only let the lower frequencies of the signal pass . It is why only the cubes on the left are scalling up. 08:00 : Compression effect = decrease dynamics. It smashes the highest part of the audio signal. So the quieter parts, with some kind of "auto-gain", are louder and everything seams louder => visually, the scale is high in every frequency, all the time. 13:00 : The filter seams to be a band-filter. It is at the same time a low cut and a high cut filter. If it is the case and if the settings are "1000 Hz" for the frequency and "500 Hz" for the bandwith, only the frequencies from 750 Hz to 1250 Hz will influence the effector. It seams even that, in with those settings, 750 Hz will influence the first cube on the left and 1250 Hz will influence the last cube. Sorry for my english, I hope I could help with my words ;)
Nick or somebody please, how exactly to connect the Blur Length to the Sound Keys, to what parameter of it? The rest part of your expression isn't visible unfortunately. I have done this great tutorial and pretty happy about the result! Thank you, Nick and GSG!
The trouble I'm having is that I use R19 and the adjustments you're referring to, specifically, the Sound / Effector menu, have changed in recent releases making this hard to follow step-by-step.
Thanks for the tutorial! Everything works, except that the black spheres don't render in any chosen frame prior to duplicating the sound effector... I have tried many options but it still renders flat with no reflection like the other orange spheres... I cannot figure this glitch out! Thanks again!
Hey! Thank you guys for creating so many tutorials for cinema 4d, you've inspired me to learn it! However, as a lot of your tutorials for beginners were made with earlier versions of c4d I sometimes get stuck on some parts. I have R19 at the moment and it doesn't have an "apply mode" so I couldn't find another way to make clones move in an equalizer fashion. Could you help me out, please? I don't want to leave it unfinished
When I put my .wav file (16 Bit) in the soundeffector and hit play it sounds so weird. like going back an fourth in the song.. can anyone tell me what that is about and how I can fix it?? Would be so great you guys :) Thanks Oh and great Outro @greyscalegorilla !!
my cloner keeps getting deformed to something elongated, cubes spheres are what ever I put in there, any way to fix this so the shapes stay preserved ?
Hey there, thanks for the tutorial! One Question: Is it possible to give the animation a time offset? I want my Animation to start for example at frame 100. I allready shifted my sound in the timeline, but the soundeffektor starts working at frame 1. I'm using C4D R19. In R18 there was a "Start-Time" Parameter, wasn't it? Thank you so much for your help!
Hey man, probably a bit late to this one but if you want to start the audio effector working at a specific frame just disable the audio effector with a keyframe at frame 099 and then keyframe the effector as enabled on frame 100. The Enable / Disable button is found in the "basic" tab on most items: always useful if you need to simply force something to start / stop what its doing!
Please help me the option to (include sound) in render settings is greyed out ,I am not able to turn the check box on . What should I do ? I am using a .wav audio file.
I'm having trouble when I duplicate the Sound Effector. When I add it to the Cloner's Effectors in the same order that you do, it turns all of my objects black. I even change the color as you instruct, but it still stays black. I have tried re-arranging the order the effectors are listed under the Cloner, but nothing happens. HELP?
I have a questions! Can i use sound effector or anything else for: Material (intensity of color) react to music? Light intensity react to music? Do anyone knows?
Do you know if there is a way to make this happen in real time? For example, if I play a MIDI keyboard, I'd like to be able to see the particles react accordingly (I guess without rendering it?)
the sound effector isn't animating the cubes for me 3:05 Any chance this can be amended or does it not work in certain versions? Update: fixed it and I'm dumb XD
Saw someone ask me how it worked but deleted the comment so in case anyone else does, I forgot to drag the sound and delay effector into the 'effectors' section of the Cloner object. Hope that helps.
Does anyone know how to apply a sound effector when you've got an object which has a jiggle bend on it. I was to create a 'blob' effect which reacts to a song in a similar way to this! Any help would be great! :)
at 23 minutes when you change the colour to a white channel, all of my objects go black and the scaling stays the exact same. as far as i can see everything ive done is the same as you but for whatever reason they stay black. i can force them to be white by putting the colour mode on the second sounder to manual but then they just stay white and blending modes dont do anything. Any idea what causes this? Tried turning off openGL too
I’m doing the same. Use a field, control that with the sound effector and then use xpresso to tie the intensity to the field value. That’s how I’m planning on doing it.
Nick, I don't like the way you put the sound effector on, your method isn't always convenient especially with lipsync I wanna ask you if this will work if I put my sound like this: 1. Create a null 2. Open the dope sheet 3. Drag the null to the dope sheet 4. Right click, click Add Special Tracks and select sound 5. Add the sound from there

Thanks for this magistral sound effector lesson

Awesome tutorial showing step by step which is really cool as I've only started looking into this programme. Thank you!

Is there a way to use a design like this but in real time with a live mix instead of a single track?
Great tutorial,awesome outro:)
Nick dude, thank you for all your great tutorials, always a huge help, awesome stuff man
Thanks, Chad!

Thanks A LOT!
thanks for taking the time for this tutorial!

You only have to pig whip the expression of "blur lenght" and "opacity" of your directional blur to the output1 that is in "range 1"
Dude, you are amazing. Thank you SO much.
Cool, Thanks for your help
Does anyone know of a way to stop the objects from turning black?

Change Sampling to Step
Can you have lights react to sound files as well with animation?
Yes
Is it possible to set the low end to affect the center of the meter, and the high frequency affect the left and right edges?
Yes. Try using Fields and remapping to reverse the animation.

Define average machine? What render engine?
about an hour or two

my cloner keeps getting deformed to something elongated, cubes spheres are what ever I put in there, any way to fix this so the shapes stay preserved ?
Will this work with Displacement maps? Just before i start :)
You may be able to use Xpresso to drive displacement parameters with the Sound parameters.
greyscalegorilla tnx for this tutorial.

if you bring up the compression you reduce the dynamics, don't increase it ;)
Exactly !
could you please update these videos with new c4d version these adjusts not working the same anymore thanks
I will look into that. I have been thinking of updating some of the older tutorials.
Can i animate a drummer then?
haven't you done something almost exactly like this before? Saw this on vimeo i think?
Never mind.. This is exactly the same video as before. Do you guys upload things double more often?
