If you put the displacer as a child to the subdivision surface under the the object(not a child to the object) you can set the render subdivisions extra high and keep the previews low and it'll work as a way to get exactly what you have as the displacer texture on the object
Just wanted to add that hierarchy makes a huge difference here. What the guy here is doing is SDS->Mesh->Displacer ("->" means parent of). But this smoothes out a displaced lowpoly geometry, rather than displacing a subdivided highpoly geometry, what he actually intends to do. To get this you could put the SDS->Mesh and the displacer both under a null object ON THE SAME LEVEL. A displacer doesnt have to be a child of a mesh to work. Has way more detail. Just try it out.
Quick correction: You CAN view sub poly displacements in R18 by turning on the following settings: dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20657326/CINEMA%204D_2017-02-14_11-10-43.jpg
hello I'm currently looking at buying your complete set of plug-ins the 750 dollar set but unsure as I'm only running r14 right now will all the plug-ins work correctly? kind regards benn tame
Hi, using only the displacement in the material to achieve the displacement on your plane to satisfaction (that is you're okay with how the plane looks at 3:00 into the tutorial), how do you convert the displaced plane into polygon(editable mesh), for instance you want to export and 3D print.
Greyscalegorilla great! Thanks Nick! I have a question: "what folder are sequences of view and as a manager with these layers to make the animation here is open the program?" After its closure-they destroyed? Best regards, Olga !
You can activate viewport tesselation in R18 to view material displacements in the viewport ..... Maxon Tip 129 - How To Activate Viewport Tesselation: ruclips.net/video/zGC1HjMI3ik/видео.html

i am watching your stuff for so many years now. you really helped me learn cinema 4D. thanks man ♥
As always !! You're the better teacher to help us progress all the time ! THX Nick
I left my gf on the dinner table as soon as I saw the notification.
Awesome man I love you!!!
Love it, thank you! Now go eat!
Same but I was in process of masturbating
that's some commitment you got there ... and im not talking about your gf :P
Was using Displacement for my project just now! knowing about this was pretty cool , thanks Greyscale!

You can do it even in lower vesions by adding displacer as a child and enabling "emulation" in "object" tab.

Great! Waiting for the next tutorial!
Short but cool tips thanks...
Do you have a tutorial for making the glowing orange sphere's material treatment?
Thanks Nick
Thank you my dear Nick!
man! you're the best!!!! thank you sooo much for this tutorial 👍👍👍

I`ve been trying to suscribe to the Cinema 4D Series but they won`t send me a verification mail. What can I do to get access to these tutorials?
Hi nick
Is it possible to get your C4D File in the R17 Version. I would like to see the details you did?
Thank you for answering.
Marcus
hi Nick you are always awesome pls make a tutorial on farcry 4 logo pls!
please can you quck explain how did you make the dark backgrund ?
great tutorial, as always :D
Tutorial idea: "How to improve performance in c4d viewport"
yayayayyaya !! another vid....
I want to know how to make tools in CINEMA 4D please do tutorial on this

You know how to now ? I need the same answer
Is there like a fully processed guide or tutorial
because I really stuck with the lighting and all the stuff
Yes. Most of our tutorials show how we composite it in the end in after effects.
Greyscalegorilla thank you so much. I will look into it more deeply
What brand speakers are those on your desk. the ones in the intro
They're KRK's Rokit series studio monitors
nice!!!!
How to archive this with cubes or pipes? I always end up with open surfaces :(
Try using a connect object in between the object and the displacer.
afaik your new method (displacement deformer) is less efficient in rendering. I read that the displacement in the material is rendered faster.
Hi Nick! How are you?
Good! You??

i wonder why you still have subs less than 100k
+Rayan Wave we just recently moved to RUclips from Vimeo. Thanks for being a subscriber!!
good luck
And bro my physical renderer of c4d doesnt utilise my graphics card. so is there any way to set it default to GPU
?? thx
The physical renderer is not a GPU renderer. Sorry.
