I'm an international student living in the US, I was wondering how difficult it is to actually get an acting job? My main concern being VISA issue and H1-B just seems extremely difficult. :(
I live in Dallas, Texas and I’ve been in 2 commercials for a regional restaurant. I just got picked up by an agency as a new talent as well. I will be enrolling in acting classes soon. What a ride...
How is the market there?? Been debating on moving to LA for awhile now. Actually lined up a job but it requires the jab and with gas at $7 a gallon and easily $1500 a month rent is going to be tough to do side acting pursuits.
Your advice is so refreshing to hear. You're really helpful and open to sharing so much info. I've been trying to make it in New York for the past two years. It's been so hard to grow even while taking acting classes. The competition is extreme. Maybe moving to Atlanta could give me the growth I've been wanting.
I have a friend who moved from NYC to Atlanta 2 years ago and her career has taken off since she got here. Of course, that is not a guarantee that it will happen to everyone, but it is a good example.
I currently live in Atlanta with acting experience and now considering moving to Florida just for the tropical vibes. Most work here in Atlanta is production crew based but the agents are great. Not sure if moving to Florida will stunt my acting career or not but I’ll be flying to LA and ATL when needed. Hopefully there’s plenty of work in Florida too.
@@tonillewatkis4585 I decided to stay in Atlanta. The market is just better over all. Got a house being built that’s due to finish in a few weeks in Midtown. I’ll just fly to South Florida or drive to Savannah, GA when I’m in a beachy mood. 🏖

I was born and have a reliable day job in LA so it wouldn't make sense for me to move to Atlanta for my acting career although it is cheaper cost of living in ATL. That being said, there's so much opportunity here to get work for both big and small independent/student films! So glad I'm here to get this new career going (yes, I still have my day job).

There are acting opportunities in just about every city in the world. I'm an American who lives and works in Munich. When I decided that Germany was probably going to be the place I spent the rest of my life, I had another decision to make - either give up on my dreams or find a way to achieve them here. I don't believe in "can't do". I believe everything is possible - you just have to ask "how can I do it?" - BTW, I came for love, not my career, but I've managed to make both work even though I had to start all over again from scratch. Plus, most of you are starting out in a completely new era. You have things available to you that I never had - a film studio in your pocket for one - which means you can also create your own work that you can then use to send to agents, casting directors, producers, etc., in a bigger market to let them know you're alive. Also, since Corona, the industry has changed immensely. The first round of just about all auditions is a self tape.

I'm very surprised you didn't mention your closest neighbour, Canada. I live in Toronto and audition (and shoot) regularly both for Canadian and American productions. Not because I have an American agent - I don't - but because Toronto is called Hollywood North for a reason. A LOT of American television and films are shot here. I'd say in Canada, at least, Toronto or Vancouver (overlooking the exorbitant costs of living in either) are not far behind American cities like LA, New York or Atlanta. I wouldn't put them on par - I average 40 to 60 auditions a year, unlike the 100 Kurt got in his first year. Just saying, there are legit Hollywood alternatives to the US.

If I'm from Italy I would love to move there and getting an agent there. I've been in the US three times in three major cities just for vacations, but I don't really know where to start
I have no acting experience and am currently Active Duty Marine Corps. My goal is to earn my bachelors in drama/acting while I'm in and get as much local experience as I can since I'll be in North Carolina for 3 years (minus deployments). For now, I'm not sure what the future may hold, so I'm signing up for MasterClass unlimited access and starting with Natalie Portman's acting class.
From what I've heard most auditions in Atlanta for film and television are for very minor roles. All major roles are still cast in LA for productions done out in Atlanta.
I don't know what you consider a "very minor role". Priah Ferguson is an Atlanta actress who appeared in 21 episodes of Stranger Things. Owen Morgan is an Atlanta actor who appeared in 20 episodes of Cobra Kai. Dani Deete is an Atlanta actress who appeared in 6 episodes of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Victoria Blade is an Atlanta actress who appeared in 5 episodes of Wanda Vision. Jayson Warner Smith is an Atlanta actor who appeared in 8 episodes of The Walking Dead. These are major roles in major shows. And they are just a few out of many many examples.
I heard a similar thing. Maybe they get the big names from LA but most casting locally. Makes sense from a financial standpoint. Don’t have to pay to room and board the actors
I was wondering if you'd do an updated version of this topic for 2025! Do you feel like your answers to this question of where actors should live has changed at all in the last 4 years?
I started my acting career in comedy and improv in Minneapolis, MN and plan to go nearby in Chicago, IL. Home of the @cubs ⚾️💙❤️ and John Hughes movies 🍿🎬 and it is still the Midwest so yea, makes too much sense. 😂 8:18
Hi! Thank you for a great video full of a lot of information. I’m an actress planning to move to a new city (preferably LA or ATL) to pursue my career. Would you recommend looking for an agent before or after I move?

Therefore, for able to accomplish my dream, i just train at home and communicate to myself. the most ridiculously, my parents didn't even know I've been doing this kind of clumsy affair during my spare time. perhaps seem like Michelle Yeoh.
Omg i live in Mississippi which is not far from Atlanta. I do have numerous amout of off days. Its a i wanna move to atlanta but I don't want to move. I'm so torn
As someone who lives in Europe but wants to be an actress in America do you think it would be helpful if I do some movies and shows in my country and then move to the US when I am old enough?

Can you please make a video outside USA PLEASE !! Like Australia Canada etc, cause USA is kinda hard to get in
I'm in New York.👍🏾
If I'm from Italy I would love to move there and getting an agent there. I've been in the US three times in three major cities just for vacations, but I don't really know where to start
Very informative
I have no acting experience and am currently Active Duty Marine Corps. My goal is to earn my bachelors in drama/acting while I'm in and get as much local experience as I can since I'll be in North Carolina for 3 years (minus deployments). For now, I'm not sure what the future may hold, so I'm signing up for MasterClass unlimited access and starting with Natalie Portman's acting class.
Do you want to connect? I’m a veteran of active duty Army and currently pursuing acting in Atlanta
I keep trying hard 👍🙏🙏❤️
I can’t do much I live In Louisiana and I’m young
@@ActingCareerCenter Then I guess what I’ve been hearing from South Florida actors is incorrect. Thanks for correcting and clearing that up.
I heard a similar thing. Maybe they get the big names from LA but most casting locally. Makes sense from a financial standpoint. Don’t have to pay to room and board the actors
Is it the same case in NYC?
I was wondering if you'd do an updated version of this topic for 2025! Do you feel like your answers to this question of where actors should live has changed at all in the last 4 years?
I started my acting career in comedy and improv in Minneapolis, MN and plan to go nearby in Chicago, IL. Home of the @cubs ⚾️💙❤️ and John Hughes movies 🍿🎬 and it is still the Midwest so yea, makes too much sense. 😂 8:18
Hey I'm in Minneapolis do u know acting classes that is affordable coz I'm new in Minnesota
Hello! I am very close to New York. The problem is, I seem to notice that they don't have many tv/film opportunities for my age. My age range is 9-14.
Hi! Thank you for a great video full of a lot of information. I’m an actress planning to move to a new city (preferably LA or ATL) to pursue my career. Would you recommend looking for an agent before or after I move?
I'm from Malaysia. besides, I'm a teenager. As a matter of fact that i just taking self-practice at home. i just learn how to act as an outstanding character. you know? i wanna to be an actor in the future. however, I don't even know am I have this kind of talent to work on this career. I afraid that i don't have capability to be a successful actor.
I'm so torn
Is Las Vegas a good city with a reputation for acting, or would be moving to Las Angeles be better..
As someone who lives in Europe but wants to be an actress in America do you think it would be helpful if I do some movies and shows in my country and then move to the US when I am old enough?
im from Philipines and im about to take acting classes in about a month, i wanted to pursue my acting career in London but im 13 and i dont know if i could make it someday, im just so confused if i should pursue my acting career since my parents doesnt seem to support me when it comes into acting.
