Even wes craven and Kevin regretted killing off randy. I get killing off randy for the shock value but I hate that decision because randy have so many potential to have further character development.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is a queen. She finished season 1 of Buffy. Didn’t read the script for this movie she just said she had to be in it because she loved the first one so much lol. She was also making I know what you did last summer and Buffy season 2 the same year. 97 was the year of Sarah Michelle Gellar 🥰 my favorite chase scene other than her in I know what you did last summer.

The opening kills here are the most horrifying of the series, IMO. Jada is there, bleeding out, dying, in a ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE who just watch and cheer because they think it's part of the show. Her scream as she realizes that? Chilling AF.
The best thing about Scream 2 is the introduction of the extra meta-layer of the Stab movies. Hinted at in the first ("I'd probably get Tori Spelling"), this is the best running subplot in the series for me. I still wish there was more footage of Luke Wilson as Billy 🤣🤣🤣
When I watched this in 1997 (way too young) my sister and I had to pause and cry when Randy died. It almost destroyed us when Dewey got stabbed AGAIN! You should definitely continue the series!

I love the scream movies soo much compared to most anything horror because you get attached to the characters. Randy getting got in the van is sooo brutal. first time I saw it, I was litteraly screaming as well.
the twisted irony is that Scream is actually based off the very real Gainesville murders - the real Ghostface (the Gainesville ripper in real life) went after college students and some off the crime scenes were truly horrific. Scream 2 is basically making a movie about Scream 1 which was a movie about the Gainesville murders....

Trivia time! Matthew Lillard "Stu" has a cameo out of ( the direct) shot during the sorority party, he has a dog I believe. He just visited the set & crew at the time of filming. I think all of these actors had so much respect for Wes as a director & jumped at the chance to be in one of his movies. The admiration the cast had for him was true then & after his death. Sarah Michelle Gellar asked Wes Craven to be in killed off in Scream 2 just like Drew Barrymore did in Scream. I'm sure you now know that it was Drew's indirect suggestion to play Casey & die first in "Scream" of which I only found out how originally involved she was in that decision on her talk show promoting Scream (2022) In test screenings Dewey's death didn't hit well & Wes shot his revival at the time anyway which the studio eventually used. The script for Scream 2 leaked on the Internet but it was a draft & Kevin Williamson has said in the last few years he deliberately leaked others to throw people off at the time. All the scripts had different killers like the sorority girls & Sids roommate Halley. So happy your continuing this Scream 😱 marathon!! Much love 👍

Love these reactions, especially "yay Dewey's alive!" and "I guess Derek was just a nice dude" 😂 😭 Randy's death upsets me too. Scream is one of my favourite films (I watch them all, in order, every Halloween) and I don't typically watch horror, it isn't enjoyable for me but... something about Scream hits differently, probably partly due to Wes Craven and his impact. I also love how Neve Campbell's performance makes Sidney feel like a believable person/'final girl', someone we root for and relate to ❤ Thanks for sharing and I hope to see the others too, especially what you think of future characters 👏

Before you watch Scary Movie, if you haven't seen them yet, you should also watch I Know What You Did Last Summer, and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer for the references. Granted, they are forth of July based, but you can watch them whenever.
SMG filmed her Scream 2 scenes while simultaneously filming BTVS. She also filmed I Know What You Did Last Summer in the same year as Scream 2 which was in 1997. SMG had just wrapped BTVS season 1 and then immediately went and filmed her first full length feature film IKWYDLS, then she did Scream 2 and then BTVS season 2.

one thing i really liked was derek singing a song from top gun, which features meg ryan. in the first movie, dewey said he could imagine a young meg ryan playing sidney, and then she told billy that she wished her life could just be like a meg ryan movie. derek gave her that without her even needing to bring it up. it was a cool and subtle way of showing that derek was actually just a dude who liked a girl, compared to billy being a psychopath who manipulated her.
The two main movies that Scary Movie (2000) parodies are Scream (1996) and I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). It makes fun of many other popular scenes from movies including The Sixth Sense, Blair Witch Project, The Exorcist, American Pie, The Matrix, The Shining, Titanic, Amistad, Scream 2, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and The Usual Suspects.
Some fun facts for you. 1. During CiCi (Sarah Michelle Gellar) scene, there are quite a few things happening. She was talking to Selma Blair on the phone before she talked to ghostface and in between. They co-stared in "Cruel Intentions" together and when they were talking on the phone they were talking about Bailey on "Party of Five" which was the tv series that Neve Campbell (Sidney) was doing during all of the three Screams. Also, Jennifer Love Hewitt was also in "Party of Five" as Baileys girlfriend thats who they were talking about regarding a break up. She also co-stars in IKWYDLS with SMG. She also turned on a vampire movie as a reference to her Buffy. Sarah Michelle Gellar was very busy in 97 she was doing this, I know what you did last summer and 2nd season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. - Neve was also really busy in the late 90s. Same year Scream 96 came out her and Skeet Ulrich (Billy) did "The Craft" together, she was doing her tv series "Party of Five" and also filmed "Wild Things" with Kevin Bacon and Matt Dillon in 97 the same year Scream 2 came out. Courtney Cox (Gale) was doing "friends" the whole time she was doing "Scream, Scream 2 and 3. 2. When Randy mentioned Gales nude pictures and how her head was on Jennifer Aniston body it was a funny towards "Friends." Aswell with David Schwimmer playing Dewey in Stab, especially since he plays Ross as Monica's (Courtney Cox) brother on "Friends." 3. Originally, it was supposed to be Ms. Loomis hiring Derek and Hallie as the killers and Mickey as the supportive friend to Sidney, but it got leaked while filming, so they changed it to Ms. Loomis and Mickey as the killers.
Something that might interest you, in Sarah Michelle Gellar's death scene, when the killer says 'do you want to die tonight Cici' is shown in Halloween:H20 wen the characters played by Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, and Michelle Williams are watching it. I guess that's Halloween turning the tables back, because a lot of the original Halloween was shown in the first Scream lol.
Yeah he was able to kill those detectives I guess with ease. I read this online “Though each iteration of Ghostface is human, they often exhibit extreme durability against physical harm, high levels of physical strength, and an almost supernatural stealth ability, able to appear and disappear in seemingly impossible situations.” Pretty much true since it happens in all the Scream movies. Pretty cool I think.
Buffy was mid-way through its second season when this film was released in theaters (episode 2x11 Ted had just aired that week). Cici watching Nosferatu in the scene was a shout-out to the show.
In case you didn't know (which it's very possible you might), the original title Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson wanted to go with was "Scary Movie", the folks who shot that down were, well, the Weinsteins (yikes)

Chris Rock loves the opening scene. The movies do get more meta as the series progresses. Dewey doesn't die in THIS movie... I think it's funny that you didn't include the introductory footage of the actual killer from earlier in the film. I love watching your genuine reactions to this. You need to react to the next one! Also- loved that you mentioned Buffy when SMG came on! BtVS started in 1997, the same year this came out, but what confuses me is that she had S2 hair even though this would have been a lot closer to S1 🤷♀️
What got me in the theaters is when they showed billies mom going up to gale I was like hey she was in the first movie and ended up being billies mom I was like seesh
The ending scene music is pretty upbeat, which I presume is to give you a sense of a happy ending, but when you watch Sidney walk off by herself, you’re reminded that she’s actually all alone. Her best friend is dead, her boyfriend is dead, Randy is dead, and even the guy she thought was her friend. All dead. Dewey is the only one left she cares about, but he’s not a part of her everyday life. It makes me wonder if they made that decision with the music to strategically make you feel good, since the music in the end scene of the first movie was much more haunting. That playing with Gale’s report really brings the weight and tragedy of what had happened.
I've had this theory for as long as I can remember regarding the car scene. I believe Mickey was knocked out originally, but when Sid hit the horn, I think it woke him up but pretended to still be knocked out. That way, the girls mostly Sidney were out of the car since he wasn't allowed to actually kill her and for her to be lure to the theater building for Ms. Loomis. Because he got out WAY too quickly after they did and then did like a syke trick, making them think they are safe just to turn around and kill Hallie to mess with Sid mentally and emotionally even more.
Fun fact: Wes Craven asked Duane Martin how he felt his character Joel would react to the killings and Duane said "A brother would throw down the camera, get into a cab, and peace the fuck out" so that's what Wes had Joel do.
Big hint for who 1 of the killers was (was too young to notice when it first came out) was the Dewey and Gale scene where it showed that the killer was recording a lot. Cause Mikey had a camcorder with him the whole movie
I felt so bad for Derek in the end, he genuinely cared and looked out for Sidney. Was he a bit cringey.. of course and he’s friends with Mickey who was the killer..so yeah being SUS about a love interest is always the first thought. But Derek was innocent and Sidney having to hear Derek telling her that he loves her and would never hurt her. AWW MAN MY HEART.. I felt so bad for both of them. In the end, Sidney was still wearing the necklace Derek gave her and she was touching it. Poor Sidney..😢
Considering how many of the other cast you recognised, i'm surprised you didn't instantly recognise the theartre teacher, played by the late, great actor, David Warner. He has a very distinctive voice.
I love scream 2... second fav in franchise for me, and I think second best, and the only opening I would argue rivals the first one. the meta was next level.
You should DEFINITELY continue with the franchise! Though some of the sequels arent as strong, they are all still very good movies. Still need to see 5 and 6 myself.😅
Gale's character arch is at its peak here. They gave her the best character development. Whilst I still love her in the rest of the franchise, I just wish they had built in it more as opposed to just rehashing the same thing for her.
Buffy was already huge back then. There are many big names in this one cause everyone wanted to be in it, considering how successful the first one was.

He gets the death intended for Gale, but but I think he was too genre savvy for the way he goes out.

The two main movies that Scary Movie (2000) parodies are Scream (1996) and I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). It makes fun of many other popular scenes from movies including The Sixth Sense, Blair Witch Project, The Exorcist, American Pie, The Matrix, The Shining, Titanic, Amistad, Scream 2, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and The Usual Suspects.
Some fun facts for you.
1. During CiCi (Sarah Michelle Gellar) scene, there are quite a few things happening. She was talking to Selma Blair on the phone before she talked to ghostface and in between. They co-stared in "Cruel Intentions" together and when they were talking on the phone they were talking about Bailey on "Party of Five" which was the tv series that Neve Campbell (Sidney) was doing during all of the three Screams. Also, Jennifer Love Hewitt was also in "Party of Five" as Baileys girlfriend thats who they were talking about regarding a break up. She also co-stars in IKWYDLS with SMG. She also turned on a vampire movie as a reference to her Buffy. Sarah Michelle Gellar was very busy in 97 she was doing this, I know what you did last summer and 2nd season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
- Neve was also really busy in the late 90s. Same year Scream 96 came out her and Skeet Ulrich (Billy) did "The Craft" together, she was doing her tv series "Party of Five" and also filmed "Wild Things" with Kevin Bacon and Matt Dillon in 97 the same year Scream 2 came out. Courtney Cox (Gale) was doing "friends" the whole time she was doing "Scream, Scream 2 and 3.
2. When Randy mentioned Gales nude pictures and how her head was on Jennifer Aniston body it was a funny towards "Friends." Aswell with David Schwimmer playing Dewey in Stab, especially since he plays Ross as Monica's (Courtney Cox) brother on "Friends."
3. Originally, it was supposed to be Ms. Loomis hiring Derek and Hallie as the killers and Mickey as the supportive friend to Sidney, but it got leaked while filming, so they changed it to Ms. Loomis and Mickey as the killers.

Something that might interest you, in Sarah Michelle Gellar's death scene, when the killer says 'do you want to die tonight Cici' is shown in Halloween:H20 wen the characters played by Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, and Michelle Williams are watching it. I guess that's Halloween turning the tables back, because a lot of the original Halloween was shown in the first Scream lol.
For the record, Halloween is my second favourite movie, and Scream is my tenth favourite, and i love most sequels for both, including Scream 2.

Yeah he was able to kill those detectives I guess with ease. I read this online “Though each iteration of Ghostface is human, they often exhibit extreme durability against physical harm, high levels of physical strength, and an almost supernatural stealth ability, able to appear and disappear in seemingly impossible situations.” Pretty much true since it happens in all the Scream movies. Pretty cool I think.

Buffy was mid-way through its second season when this film was released in theaters (episode 2x11 Ted had just aired that week). Cici watching Nosferatu in the scene was a shout-out to the show.

In case you didn't know (which it's very possible you might), the original title Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson wanted to go with was "Scary Movie", the folks who shot that down were, well, the Weinsteins (yikes)

Also- loved that you mentioned Buffy when SMG came on! BtVS started in 1997, the same year this came out, but what confuses me is that she had S2 hair even though this would have been a lot closer to S1 🤷♀️
This movie really show Neve Campbell's dance and theatre's experiences.
What got me in the theaters is when they showed billies mom going up to gale I was like hey she was in the first movie and ended up being billies mom I was like seesh
Wait really I’ve never noticed her in the first movie???
The ending scene music is pretty upbeat, which I presume is to give you a sense of a happy ending, but when you watch Sidney walk off by herself, you’re reminded that she’s actually all alone. Her best friend is dead, her boyfriend is dead, Randy is dead, and even the guy she thought was her friend. All dead. Dewey is the only one left she cares about, but he’s not a part of her everyday life.
It makes me wonder if they made that decision with the music to strategically make you feel good, since the music in the end scene of the first movie was much more haunting. That playing with Gale’s report really brings the weight and tragedy of what had happened.

I've had this theory for as long as I can remember regarding the car scene.
I believe Mickey was knocked out originally, but when Sid hit the horn, I think it woke him up but pretended to still be knocked out. That way, the girls mostly Sidney were out of the car since he wasn't allowed to actually kill her and for her to be lure to the theater building for Ms. Loomis. Because he got out WAY too quickly after they did and then did like a syke trick, making them think they are safe just to turn around and kill Hallie to mess with Sid mentally and emotionally even more.

Fun fact: Wes Craven asked Duane Martin how he felt his character Joel would react to the killings and Duane said "A brother would throw down the camera, get into a cab, and peace the fuck out" so that's what Wes had Joel do.

Big hint for who 1 of the killers was (was too young to notice when it first came out) was the Dewey and Gale scene where it showed that the killer was recording a lot. Cause Mikey had a camcorder with him the whole movie

I felt so bad for Derek in the end, he genuinely cared and looked out for Sidney. Was he a bit cringey.. of course and he’s friends with Mickey who was the killer..so yeah being SUS about a love interest is always the first thought. But Derek was innocent and Sidney having to hear Derek telling her that he loves her and would never hurt her. AWW MAN MY HEART.. I felt so bad for both of them. In the end, Sidney was still wearing the necklace Derek gave her and she was touching it. Poor Sidney..😢

Considering how many of the other cast you recognised, i'm surprised you didn't instantly recognise the theartre teacher, played by the late, great actor, David Warner. He has a very distinctive voice.
I love scream 2... second fav in franchise for me, and I think second best, and the only opening I would argue rivals the first one. the meta was next level.

Gale's character arch is at its peak here. They gave her the best character development. Whilst I still love her in the rest of the franchise, I just wish they had built in it more as opposed to just rehashing the same thing for her.
