Im blessed to live with my mother. Sometimes i feel like a loser for it but im not going to conform to what society thinks i should do with my life, i do want indepence. But knowing my mom worked as a kid and her sacrifices to raise me in hard times, and becoming ill with age, makes me realize being closer to family, supporting and taking care of my mom is more important and valuable than being a slave for the corporate rat race.

@shiptj01 the younger end of the boomers didn't have it as good as the older end. By the time I was an older kid it was these younger boomers that started moving back in with their parents. It picked up quite a bit with Gen x and even more so with the millennials. This all goes back to Nixon taking us off the gold backs in the fall of 71 leading to the declining value of our currency.

I am 30 and live with my father. My mom has a few more days to live and is now in the hospital. The fact i saw my mom so often at the end just made me happy i stayed with her until the end instead of moving out and chase dollars and party.
I just turned 30, quit my job of 4 years that i went to school for 6 years to do community service (teaching/coaching sports to kids) with the help of my parents support. My skin is glowing, my sleep is amazing, and i have bever been happier. Money isnt everything in this life

I live in Slovakia, and some people make you feel like you are an incapable person if you still live with parents past 25 (usually when graduating Uni at this age). But its way more common to live with parents when you are single than in US I guess. However, most people live like this because they cant afford a place of their own without a partner... Also, living with parents/ family can be mentally draining if you dont get along with them, so some people move out even when they can barely afford it.

I had a landlord who had to move out of his unit of the duplex and move back in with his parents. He rented out the front smaller unit to me, but after he was laid off he needed to rent both units for a source of revenue so he moved back in with his parents. His siblings had to move back in as well, a couple of them brought their spouses and their kids with them.
It’s kind of sad because nobody knew this in a 60s 70s 80s or 90s now baby boomers use this to their advantage to get younger women or women in general. They always use this against young men and call us stupid it’s really unfair.
If you move out you are not even independent, you rely on roommates and the landlord and service companies to keep living. So moving out doesn't encourage independence.
Independence ultimately is an illusion. Everybody has some kind of help from others. The stuff you buy, the stuff you create wouldn't be possible with out resources provided by others.

Increase in living costs make it near impossible, for us to even rent a property let alone buy one. My older brother was only able to move out, because of his job and they helped put in a deposit to rent a property.

She has Hidradenitis Supprativa, so it’s very hard for her to maintain and keep a job as well. Despite this, she has been denied for SSDI anyway.

I have more freedom living with my parents than when I lived with roommates. I can bring people over and make noise whenever I want. My parents are chill and they stay up late. When I had roommates I couldn't bring friends over or make any noise after 10PM. But I know that everyone's situation is different.

If you have to work a crap meaningless job, save in Bitcoin over time. Like $100 a month. Doesn't seem like much, but considering the average CAGR for Bitcoin is at least 29% that would make you a multimillionaire by the time you are 50. 10% returns are NOT enough anymore due to money printing that will only accelerate. The average stock market returns are nothing but a reflection of increased money supply, not growth. Study Bitcoin, don't trade, and save in it over decades. This is how I will advise my kids, because following the system of broken money will leave you in despair.

It’s not that hard I make 3000 gross working retail and my rent with utilities is 900 for a nice apartment (granite countertops, multiple indoor pools, indoor basketball court). My dad paid 145 for a room in a gross house in the late 80s while making 5 an hour. It’s really not that tough these days.
Not everyone lives where you live I live out in the Mountain West and you aren’t going to find anything for 900$ your looking at 1,500 to 2,000 a month for a one bedroom apartment and up to 3,000 or more if you want a 2 or 3 bedroom. Most people I know who are not well off either have to live with roommates or are wage slaving at 2 jobs just to make enough to be able to pay for rent I knew a guy who was working 2 jobs to get by and he always seemed exhausted and brunt out every day you can’t even enjoy life if you have to work 24/7 just to be able to afford rent and have food on the table.
