Hi Malta, I'm a 65 year old Puerto Rican male from Bronx, New York, I've cooked basically all my life for my family, I learned cooking from my mom who never allowed anyone in her kitchen while she was cooking but as a young child I was very quiet and still so she allowed me to watch her cooking from the farthest chair in here kitchen. I, too, took care of my mom until she passed at the age of 92 on December 1st, 2014 . I love your culinary knowledge and the intelligent way of expression. Your recipes and skills are the bomb. After watching this video, I categorize you as a super mom and super person. Keep up the good work. Know that you have a dedicated subscriber here and a fan. God bless.
NYC HERE. Lovely with my dream room background. I get the head covering and do it for healthy hair protection. You are an amazing woman and I really needed your motivation. I thank God for you and your life enthusiasm. Pernil in the oven right now!!
Marta, I fell in love with your vibrant personality the moment I watched your video "Let's Make Pernil". I fell out when you tapped the pernil with the knife and said "that's it". I have been following you ever since and am enamored by your take on food, cooking, family and life. It doesn't have to be that dramatic, we just gotta treat each other right, do right by each other and ourselves and have a good filling meal in the process. When people are eating they aren't being mean, talking smack or arguing. Like you and your, I'm sure amazing husband, Hector; I too am a US ARMY veteran. I spent 10 years (1981-1991) mostly in Infantry Units. So a huge HOOAH from me to you both. You made me home sick for NYC with your mannerisms and speech. I was born and raised on the LES (Lower East Side) so I'm very familiar with Adela's and try to get back as often as I can. Unfortunately my mobility isn't as great as it used to be but other than my diabetes my health is pretty solid. I miss the cuchifrito, real avocadoes (haas will do, but not even close), culantro, piragua in the summer, a knish, a bialy from Essex street, anything from Katz Deli, but mostly though just a good old street waterdog with mustard and onions. I loved NYC for the same reasons you mentioned. I could travel and taste the world's cuisine all in one place because the neighborhood's were so immersed in their respective cultures. You have come to embody every woman in my life (Mom, Tia's, girlfriend's) that I have spent time in the kitchen with prepping and cooking great food while having a great time laughing our butts off in the process. The last part probably due to all the coquito and rum that was consumed. LOL So thank you for all the content, for just being you and representing all the amazing sides of yourself. Mostly for for triggering those awesome memories all the beloved and fun women I have had in my life. I wish you and your family much health, wealth and success. keep it up, cause I'll definitely be watching. Sorry for writing a book. It all just spilled out as soon as I started.
Thank you for your service, Juan! I loved reading about your memories. It's so good to hear from the folks who watch the videos. Sometimes you feel like you're talking to yourself, so it does my heart good to hear from fellow Army folks and New Yorkers! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. It means a lot to me.
I enlisted USAF in '72. This history of your life, makes me feel that, should I be asked again to serve, watching your videos... are the reason why I would sign up again, without hesitation. You make me feel proud, having served!
OMG thanks for giving us more insight about you and your family Marta. This sounds crazy, but I served in the Army with your husband when I was stationed at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. At the time I was SPC Rivera and your husband was SFC Rivera, the NCOIC of Operations. Wow! I became the Hospital's CSM driver/assistant because Mr. Rivera recommended me to our leadership and Chain of Command. He would always tell me to get a haircut because I would use gel in my hair all of the time LOL. I never forgot Mr. Rivera throughout my Army career. I think when your husband found out that I was a nuyorican he took a liking to me and helped progress my career while I served at Ft. Bliss. God Bless both you and your family. And shout out to Mr. Rivera (from your Nuyorican Combat Medic). Hooah!!!!
Holyyyyyyy S#!T!!! He's sitting here laughing about the haircut/gel thing. What a small freaking world! He said you were a good "kid" that he saw so much potential in, which is why he recommended you to CSM Luciano. Thanks so much for commenting and letting us know you're still well.
@@SenseandEdibility LOL That's awesome that he remembers me! I stumbled upon your channel because I wanted to learn how to make a bomb a$$ pernil. I learned how to make it by following your video but my pernil didn't look as nice as yours. However, according to my mom and pops, they said my pernil was delicious LOL! Take care Miss Marta and Mr. Rivera!
I came across your Cooking Channel and fell in love with the authenticity and the realistic scenery of your studio. Most people view cooking shows that showcase an unrealistic kitchen and a show that's overly scripted. That can lead to a total chaos when they try to prepare any recipe they recently viewed. Thank you for that. Also as a Rican myself...(not trying to show any favoritism because of that), I am amazed by your experiences and your history that brought you to this place of "Becoming a Chef". I also am so grateful that you showcase PRIDE in both of your ethical backgrounds and most of all...being a human and an American. You touched on Military background and that of MS and of course...being a mom. I hope you can do episodes on each such as Latin or Ethnic foods for MS, an easy to prepare meal for your kids, a typical military mean - Latin style. As for The Military portion...there is a huge population of Military vets who can't afford to barely eat or suffer from PTSD so easy, simple, inexpensive meals are hard to find that are not only Latin based, but are healthy and has that home feeling. Once again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Thank you for sharing your life and experiences. It is inspiring me to share more of the culinary traditions of my family, and discoveries from others. Take good care.
Hello Marta. I'm new to the channel. You just happened to show up on phone & I decided to listen to you. I loved hearing about you. So intriguing. I will be back to hear more & try out your recipes!❤
I admirer and Love you. You are sooooo Beautiful. Your food preparation looks so yummy that I want to lick the TV screen. I was watching you on RUclips how to make Roasted Pernil and immediately sent my son to the store to purchase a Pernil. I will follow your recipe to the letter. I make Pernil pretty regularly and I never get complaints, but making it your way is going to make me a Super Star. Thank you for you! Keep on keeping on.
Hola Marta! Excellent video and beautiful touching story especially regarding your mom. You sure have accomplished a lot from raising homeschooling twins, doing it solo at times and missing your husband when he got deployed..not an easy childhood either. Yet you have a fighter fearless spirit. You took on each challenge and camoe out a warrior. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful video. What touched me most was how you and your family took care of your mom. ❤😢 I loved the pictures of you reading by her bedside ❤. God blessed you with a beautiful heart. I have a mom with dementia and that runs in our family tree. Its brutal to watch anyone let alone a loved one fade away. Shes still alive at 86 but I mourn her every day. I miss her laugh, her jokes, her spirit. We grew up in LES so i am familiar with PR Adelas . Mom and her were friends and went to PR together. Adela was golden! Loved her food. I have yet to taste a PR meal as good! I started cooking as a new mom.. i ruined so many meals as my mom wasn't a fan of cooking so i rarely watched her cook. She threw together whatever she had to feed 7 kids. I thank God daily for videos like yours and other cuisines that have helped me develop into a decent cook. I love feeding people too. Thanks for sharing your story ❤❤❤. On point beautiful real and deeply moving. God bless you and keep you healthy. Fyi i mustve watched your knife video at least 10x lol i had no idea how to use that long circular blade sharpner i thought it was to stab a pork....just jk i knew it had to so with sharpening knife but had no idea how! And i too keep them storef away because i watch dateline too much 😂. Thanks again..sending a virtual abrazo! ❤
Thank you so much for the kind and encouraging words. I'm battling numbness in my left arm, so it helps to know that I'm reaching people even when I can't churn out new content.
I was completely enjoying this tale of you. However, when you got to the part that you love making furniture? Well that blew me away. So many fascinating parts of you. I’m proud of you. You sound as though you are pleased and confident in yourself. All of this makes you a excellent roll model in the job of living one’s life. Thank you for sharing 😎
It has taken me a while to be pleased with myself. I am my harshest critic, but I realize that every day I'm doing the best that I can and that's what's important. Thank you so much for your kind words.
My dearest Marta, thank you, thank you, for open your heart to us! Now I understand so many things! What an amazing full of compassion human being you are. So articulated. More reasons to admire you! Love you MUCHO!
Martha this video brought me to tears, as I too cared for both my parents during their last days. What a blessing that is. I discovered you when I watched the pernil video. Although I’m not Puerto Rican, I’ve lived in PR for three years, and appreciate all food types. I have my pernil marinating and can’t wait to hear the sound just like when you tapped yours and the amazing crunch of the chicharron. Thank you for everything you do, and thanks to both you and your husband for your service. May God continue to bless you and your family.
Hello again Maltha! First of all thank you for sharing your personal story and experiences in life. It's so uplifting and by the way, I made your Coquito Tres Leche Cake for Christmas. It was absolutely delicious! I was married to a Puerto Rican guy for 16yrs. And I learn to make all kinds of Spanish Food for him. I also enjoy eating Spanish Food. I like trying new foods and I make my own Sofrito from scratch I have such a passion for cooking and fashion as well, plus interior decorating. God bless you and your! 👪
Great shoot Marta!👏🏼 I had totally forgot that you had MS. I, too, am in that fight now for the past 35 years. To hear that your mother and her two sisters had it as well, blew my mind.🤔 My daughter and I will be making your Loaded Carrot Cake for my wife’s upcoming Birthday; her favorite. You keep that Army Strong Fight up and I’ll keep my Marine Corps, Devil Dog tenacity driven fight going as well. Semper Fi !!💪🏼
I'm 26 and I gotta say, I love your back story. I like that you don't mind answering these questions! too many people don't like sharing, which is understandable. I applaud you and your husband on the very long marriage as it very rare for that long of a marriage, in today's age 2 hours of marriage isn't even possible lol!
Thank you for sharing your story, Marta. I'm so glad I found your channel & so much of your life resonates with me. I'm an Af.American, GenXer from the Bronx who fell in love with Boricua culture & food in the households of my closest friends. Your videos remind me of home. 🥰
This was absolutely beautiful.. I could connect with you on so many levels… I actually just subscribed to your channel because of this interview… I was so touched by you opening up and especially talking about your time taking care of your mother….the sincerity really came through.. it was encouraging to me bc my mother is 82 and slowing down and I’m constantly thinking of a time when she will have to fully depend on me… I hope to be able to give the same dignity and love that you gave your mom… I also was touched by your honesty about being both PR & Black… I’m am black mother and I raised two beautiful girls that are biracial as well..(they are Black & PR)I was a single mother most of their lives and always taught them to be proud of both sides…they are grown now and both confident in who they are… Being from NYC, I loved being exposed to many different types of food, so naturally I agree with you😂.. I’m excited to learn cooking techniques from you..much love to you and your family 💞
As an Airforce brat who was also in the Army, it was great to learn about you and your life. You've accomplished so much, and I love your sarcastic, middle-finger attitude. Can't wait to see what the new year holds for you.
I loved this video. Thanks for sharing a bit of your life with us. I am a homeschool mom myself and when I saw your library I said "They are actual readers! That's not just a 'look pretty' bookcase. They read!" then you went on to share you are a home educator and confirmed it. I love it. Many blessings to you and yours Marta.
Thank you Marta! You are such an amazing woman. I love everything about you and your journey and how it brought you to us to enjoy, learn and be inspired. I cannot express how grateful I am to have found your channel and pray for continued success and prosperity for you and your family in 2023 and beyond!💙🙏
Hi Malta, my name is Tanya and I used to live in New York but I recently moved to Florida coming on 5 years now. I love your show I am a super foodie, it really is like my hobby and my happy place and I love the fact that I get to learn from you from someone who has just as much passionate about food as I am
@@SenseandEdibility already a big fan. You finally showed me how to get the cuero crispy on my pernil. I had not heard of your site but will be checking it out for more recipes but prefer to see your videos. Looking forward to what you publish this year.
I just went to Adela's earlier this year and while the place is still the same, I feel like the food was different. Just something about the flavors that tasted a little lackluster. Let me know what you think if you go back.
Hi Malta I came across your channel over the Christmas holiday looking to make a great pernil for my family and I had great success so thank you! Hearing you say how proud you were for taking care of your mother and what you learned from that experience hit home for me.
Sorry to hear about your mother. May she rest in peace. I would love to purchase your cookbook. I am from boring Indiana 😴 and I wish for a Puerto Rican restaurant here. I am biracial, Puerto Rican & Mexican. I cook, but, I am not the best. I hope to be the best with your recipes. It looks so tasty and I can't wait to try your recipes. I never thought to add garlic in achiote. Great cooking skills 👌 thank you. 🎉 *HAPPY NEW YEAR* 🎊 🥂
Happy New Year! Though my cookbook is no longer for sale, I do put tons of recipes on my site: senseandedibility.com. I'm sure you'll find it's much easier than trying to keep a book open. LOL! Welcome to our community.
You had me at sofrito! Oh gosh, thank you for taking the time to film this video. You are an absolutely amazing woman! I love your videos. Since I found you on RUclips (Nov2022) I’ve cooked Pernil, Moro de gandules, made sofrito and thrown out my go to Adobo (Goya) because you showed me how to make it better! Thank you! Looking forward to see where you take all of us in 2023 💞
Loved your video, thanking for sharing. Don't cook much, one day I will try one of your recipes :) and one of these days I will visit Casa Adela, I hear great reviews
I loved this video and learned so much about who you are. Such a beautifully done video. I did almost 20 years in the Navy and raised two boys by myself. That is what I’m most proud of, raising my kids while simultaneously raising my kids BY MYSELF! Women are so strong and determined. You’ve accomplished so much in your life and you are still young. Here’s to more in 2023! I wish for you everything that your heart desires this year! Happy New year to you and your family ❤.
Stay being you and thank you for sharing some of your personal journey thus far! I found you over the holidays while looking for a recipe for how to make pernil. My husband is from Puerto Rico and I wanted to try to cook pernil for the Christmas. I’m very happy that I found your channel! Happy New Year 🎆!
I loved learning more about you. You are so inspirational and I love your sense of humor. You are super empowering to women and specifically to me a fellow Puerto Rican woman.
May God Bless you and your family. I just watched this video, you touched my heart. My best to you and your goals. Your parents did a good job, Godspeed. I thank you and your family for your service to our country.... be well always, you shared a beautiful video here. No doubt, your Mom is an angel that is with you always. Thank you for being so honest and real, love to you always.
Thank you so much for sharing. You are inspiring, I will be sharing this video with my daughter who is also home schooling and a baker at night fine tuning recipes. You remind me of my Daughter who is also half Puerto Rician and a force of nature. Strong will and strong blood will always win at the end of the day. Keep the hits coming and keep fighting to stay strong! Blessings!!!❤
Hi Marta I recently found you while searching for a pernil recipe. I love the way you explain the recipe and give a little background on what you’re cooking at the same time. I am planning to use your recipe over the Christmas holiday. If it comes out anything like what you made, I will be very happy. Thank you for sharing your talents and your story. From one military family to another ❤
You seem like such a lovely person, so real. In this day and age (I am old, I get to say that) where not only photos but whole personas and lives are photoshopped and manipulated for posting, you are a breathe of fresh air. And have a great talent for cooking! Glad to have come across your channel, happy to sub and thumbs up.
I just want to thank you for sharing your culinary skills ,this is my go to spot for all my cooking .from the sofrito to the arroz con guandules and not to mention that peril weeepa.thank you
Hola Marta. How are you doing with your own struggles with MS? My nephew was diagnosed with MS a couple of years ago and he's only in his 30's. Heartbreaking 😔. Anyway, I love your channel ❤️. If it's not too much trouble, would you do a shepherds pie video? I make a pretty good one but there is always room for improvement 😉. This Puertorriqueña 🇵🇷 sends you barrels of hugs from NJ 🤗🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much! I'm doing surprisingly well with my MS. I'm currently having an issue, but it's not too serious. Just the stress of working through the holidays I think. It was really hard for me to be diagnosed at 32, but oddly, I wasn't shocked since I was now the 4th person in the family to be diagnosed with it. I'll add shepherd's pie to my list, though. Thanks for the recommendation!
It’s so dope that you shared! Thanks for giving us a glimpse into what keeps bringing me to your channel, your culinary knowledge, beautiful spirit and personality! -your Maryland fam
17:19 “…not doing baller stuff” 😂 It’s so awesome to see how human you are. Thanks for sharing so much! I look forward to your vids to come. Que Dios les cuide a todos y nos estaremos viendo 😊💚🇵🇷
You are so welcome! And, no. I'm over here trying to put two kids through university and pay a mortgage. I squeeze the last of the toothpaste out of the tube like I grew up doing, LOL!
I’m not a nutritionist, so I don’t have the medical credentials to make a cookbook based on dietary supplements or restrictions. I do believe in cooking and baking from scratch as much as possible, but I don’t ascribe to the whole “healthy” eating concept. I believe food should be enjoyed in moderation and without guilt. I would do a cookbook , though, yes.
Thank you for sharing your journey thus far...in the short time I have subscribed (Winter 2022), I have learned so much. Me encantan the sass, humor, cooking lessons and the exclusivity of all cultures. ¡Sí Reina Sí!♥
I really enjoyed learning about you and your life, especially about taking care of your mother. I have subscribed and look forward to learning more. Thank you for your service. :)
(21:52) I took care of my sister for over a year till she past away of cancer. It was one of the most toughest times in my entire life. (emotionally, physically, spiritually) The experience taught me so about myself, about love, about compassion, about life general! I didn't know I even had it with in me to do so !!! If I had to do again, in the beat of a heart I'd be there! No regrets at all !!! Thank you for reminding me of all the lessons I've learned through out that time !!!🥲
💞✨I resonated with your channel name and your personality, as it came through, from the moment I found you. It’s only increasing in commendation. 💗 I’m an unconditional Austen, admirer too. Such an illuminating and wonderful perspective into your motivations and dedication to what you do, greatly. Thank you for sharing about yourself, speaking truth, warts and all and keeping your content authentic. 🫶🥂💝
One of my biggest challenge with cooking, or at least experimenting and trying new things, is the fear of failure resulting in food waste, especially with rising costs of groceries. How do you handle that?
I have to admit that my answer is biased because I usually know what I need to do to fix a recipe to salvage it. I think that, with very few exceptions, failing at a recipe is usually the result of not reading the recipe thoroughly and getting a feel for what you're about to make before even gathering the ingredients. I always tell my friends and family to read a recipe at least 3 times before even starting it. It will get you familiar with what's to come, enable you to make sure you have everything you need to make the recipe, and allow you to circumvent issues that may arise because you missed a step. Always follow the instructions given in the recipe. All to often, I have people say they decided not to do something and it caused their recipe to come out badly. Lastly, things happen and sometimes recipes are poorly researched, tested, or written. Because I grew up with food insecurities, a recipe has to be damn near poison for us not to eat it. I just explain it to the family and we eat it anyway. In the end, dousing something in ketchup always helps.
great advice about reading a recipe at least 3x and I also replay different variations of the same recipe on RUclips to see what changes I would like to make to make it my own.@@SenseandEdibility
It wasn't a great time for people serving in the military back then. They didn't have the same support that service members do today. I'm grateful for their service.
@@ibnBobby80 I remember going to one and getting there only to realize I didn't have any of my piping tips (I was competing in a cake decorating competition). I scored 4th and was SO mad.
@@SenseandEdibility I think she's that twin, people usually say we have somewhere😁 you should try to contact her and do a cooking segment together, that be would hilarious! I bet she would be down for it plus she has millions of followers ...make it your 2023 goal😂✌️
Marta, do you have a cookbook for sale? If not, do you have a way of allowing contributions for the magic you offer? In the words of Nene Leakes, "I'm not cashing Trump checks," but I'd love to offer something for all the joy your talent brings. I thank you deeply.
Good ol' Nene Leakes, LOL!!! The best way to support me is to watch the videos, share, and spend some time on my site. I thank you so much for caring enough to ask.
😮I don't get it, what do you mean when you say you're black and puerto rican you don't think the puerto ricans were as dark as ever? I'm from the Virgin Islands, I used to be in Puerto Rico a lot. I went to the black part of Puerto Rico. So when you say you black and puerto rican? Do you think that puerto rican Aint black? And there are light skin puerto rican. And dark skin puerto rican you know from the slavery era
I do hope you gain the confidence. It took me a while to be comfortable with me, but it also released me from so much depression and trauma when I did so. Thank you for being here.

Thank you so much Amiga!
Hola Marta, I'm learning so much from your video's. Keep them coming!!! Wepa!!! 🇵🇷
Will do!
Your bookshelves are most excellently stocked with excellent titles. Well done madam, well done!
We are a family of bibliophiles, for sure!
Love your channel and in this video you mentioned cheesecake and I love cheesecake and guava, that would make a mean Boricua cheesecake!
You're right. It WOULD, bwahahahaaaaa!

Thanks so much Anner!
Great shoot Marta!👏🏼
I had totally forgot that you had MS. I, too, am in that fight now for the past 35 years. To hear that your mother and her two sisters had it as well, blew my mind.🤔
My daughter and I will be making your Loaded Carrot Cake
for my wife’s upcoming Birthday; her favorite.
You keep that Army Strong Fight up and I’ll keep my Marine Corps, Devil Dog tenacity driven fight going as well.

Sending you tons of positive, healing vibes Devil Dog!
Love ur library 📚 🇵🇷🇺🇸🔥🙏Godbless you ❤️
Thank you so much. May God bless you as well.
Thank you! We're celebrating our 24th at the beginning of September. It hasn't been easy, but what is these days? Thank you for watching!
Marta, thank you for sharing about your self, I enjoyed the video and look forward to more content!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing your story, Marta. I'm so glad I found your channel & so much of your life resonates with me. I'm an Af.American, GenXer from the Bronx who fell in love with Boricua culture & food in the households of my closest friends. Your videos remind me of home. 🥰
I love that so much. Thank you for watching and being a part of our community.
Wow, much respect goes out to you may God Bless you and your family 🙏
I appreciate that
I love her Story & how she tells it!! Your amazing and Blessed.
Thank you so much.
I'm so glad you can relate to my story. Thank you for taking the time to get to know more about me. I'm happy you're now a part of my community.
As an Airforce brat who was also in the Army, it was great to learn about you and your life. You've accomplished so much, and I love your sarcastic, middle-finger attitude. Can't wait to see what the new year holds for you.
LOL!! After the life I've had I don't have time for the BS, so I'm quick to put a stop to it. Thank you so much for watching.
YES!!! Homeschoolers unite!! I'm so happy we did it for our family.
Hello Marta, nice to meet you!!!
Nice to meet you, too!
Thank you for the Philly food shout out!
LOVED Philly! I'm taking the family back this year!
Thank you Marta! You are such an amazing woman. I love everything about you and your journey and how it brought you to us to enjoy, learn and be inspired. I cannot express how grateful I am to have found your channel and pray for continued success and prosperity for you and your family in 2023 and beyond!💙🙏
That means so much to me. Thank you so much for being a part of this community!
Hi Malta, my name is Tanya and I used to live in New York but I recently moved to Florida coming on 5 years now. I love your show I am a super foodie, it really is like my hobby and my happy place and I love the fact that I get to learn from you from someone who has just as much passionate about food as I am
You are so welcome! -Marta
Thanks for sharing your story. Amazing
It was my pleasure. Thank you for watching!
@@SenseandEdibility already a big fan. You finally showed me how to get the cuero crispy on my pernil. I had not heard of your site but will be checking it out for more recipes but prefer to see your videos. Looking forward to what you publish this year.
Great channel ! Going back to NYC in December. hope to score pasteles at Adela’s if it’s still.
I just went to Adela's earlier this year and while the place is still the same, I feel like the food was different. Just something about the flavors that tasted a little lackluster.
Let me know what you think if you go back.
You are by far, the best RUclips personality! I think you have a killer sense of humor. You’re one of the only people I don’t mute! Kuddos
That's such a HUGE compliment for me! Thank you so much, Patricia!
Hi Malta
I came across your channel over the Christmas holiday looking to make a great pernil for my family and I had great success so thank you! Hearing you say how proud you were for taking care of your mother and what you learned from that experience hit home for me.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Margie. And thank you! It wasn't easy, but I truly valued the privilege. -Marta
🎉 *HAPPY NEW YEAR* 🎊
🥂
Thank you! Looking forward to see where you take all of us in 2023 💞
You are so welcome!
Loved your video, thanking for sharing. Don't cook much, one day I will try one of your recipes :) and one of these days I will visit Casa Adela, I hear great reviews
I think you're going to love it!
Love watching your channel. You and your husband make a very beautiful couple!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much and thank you for your service!
You are an amazing women❤.
Wow, thank you. That means a lot to me.
Happy New Year! I'm so glad you're here.
I loved learning more about you. You are so inspirational and I love your sense of humor. You are super empowering to women and specifically to me a fellow Puerto Rican woman.
Thank you so much!!
Hi I enjoyed your story very inspirational.
Thanks so much Connie!
Same to you! THank you so much for watching and your sweet words.
From one military family to another ❤
Thank you so much! Happy holidays!
Finally!! caught a current video; a really good one too :D
LOL!! Don't forget to sign up for notifications so you can catch them when I post them.
Thank you for letting me into your world.
Your life is an inspiration.
Wow, thank you. That means a lot to me.
Thank you so much, Betsey!
I just want to thank you for sharing your culinary skills ,this is my go to spot for all my cooking .from the sofrito to the arroz con guandules and not to mention that peril weeepa.thank you
You are so welcome
@@SenseandEdibility Be well querida. God bless you. 🥰
It’s so dope that you shared! Thanks for giving us a glimpse into what keeps bringing me to your channel, your culinary knowledge, beautiful spirit and personality! -your Maryland fam
Thanks so much for watching it and commenting.
@@SenseandEdibility it’s the least I can do! Your pernil MADE my wife’s birthday!! Looking forward to trying more recipes!

You are so welcome! And, no. I'm over here trying to put two kids through university and pay a mortgage. I squeeze the last of the toothpaste out of the tube like I grew up doing, LOL!
😂 I hear ya
Martha, have you ever given thought to making a healthy cooking cookbook?
To help heal the body?
You are so welcome!
Looking forward to a new video!
It takes a lot of work and I've been battling some health issues, but I just put one up today.
I really enjoyed learning about you and your life, especially about taking care of your mother. I have subscribed and look forward to learning more. Thank you for your service. :)
Thank you so much!
(21:52) I took care of my sister for over a year till she past away of cancer.
It was one of the most toughest times in my entire life. (emotionally, physically, spiritually)
The experience taught me so about myself, about love, about compassion, about life general!
I didn't know I even had it with in me to do so !!! If I had to do again, in the beat of a heart I'd be there!
No regrets at all !!! Thank you for reminding me of all the lessons I've learned through out that time !!!🥲
May your sister rest in peace. Bless you for caring for her.
Thank you for sharing this Chef!😍
Thank you for watching, Brother!
I saw your video for the first time, in a minutes while watching I liked you as a person, and that not easy for me, I will be watching I subscribed!

💞✨I resonated with your channel name and your personality, as it came through, from the moment I found you. It’s only increasing in commendation. 💗
I’m an unconditional Austen, admirer too. Such an illuminating and wonderful perspective into your motivations and dedication to what you do, greatly.
Thank you for sharing about yourself, speaking truth, warts and all and keeping your content authentic. 🫶🥂💝
Thank you for always offering me a word of encouragement and for your continued support.
You are a phenomenal woman 👏🏼✨💐
Wow, thank you
One of my biggest challenge with cooking, or at least experimenting and trying new things, is the fear of failure resulting in food waste, especially with rising costs of groceries.
I don’t know what it is but you’re stunning
Thank you.
YOUR SO BEUTIFUL PLUS A GREAT COOK ITS DAVID DAVEE
Thank you!
Do you have video on rice pasteles
No, I'm sorry.
MY UNCLE DID TWO TOURS IN NAM
It wasn't a great time for people serving in the military back then. They didn't have the same support that service members do today. I'm grateful for their service.
What culinary school did you go to?
I went to the Baltimore International Culinary College. I think it's now called Coleman University.
@@SenseandEdibility Back in 98-99 there was a school in McClean.
Did you participate in VICA competitions?
I used to compete when I was in high school, but I haven't judged any, if that's what you mean. I would love to though.
@@SenseandEdibility Some of my class mates did well, but I never got past the class room competitions
@@ibnBobby80 I remember going to one and getting there only to realize I didn't have any of my piping tips (I was competing in a cake decorating competition). I scored 4th and was SO mad.
@@SenseandEdibility Did you compete against anyone from Chantilly high in VA?

You speak and look like ...Evelyn Lozada from Reality TV, who happens to be Puerto Rican from N.Y. as well.
LOL! That's the second person who's said that.

Um, my father is African American and my mother is from the island of Puerto Rico. So I’m literally Black AND Puerto Rican 😐
