    Ed Sheeran makes me angry because it's very clear that he's got some talent in him and he just refuses to use it because the lifeless songs sell more. For every Sing or Castle On The Hill there's three Shape Of Yous or Perfects. But minivan core has a big audience, and he sure knows how to play into it.

    Castle on the Hill is legitimately a great song because not only is it very well sung and believable in his performance, it's actually unique to him and feels like it really earns its big, bombastic chorus. I'm not a Sheeran fan, but I'll always give him this track. It's Summer of 69 for a new generation and it works.

    • @caleb6978
      @caleb6978 2 года назад +4

      @Alejandro if you actually listen to the lyrics, the whole song is about his upbringing as a teen growing up in a somewhat ironically nostalgic tone with personal stories that are still relatable enough to be enjoyed by a wider audience. Despite the negatives he still wants to go back. All put together on a bit of a grandeous instrumental vs what he had normally put out up until that point. I love it, a lot of people love it, I don't think there's much like it. I'm not doing it justice through this comment.

  • @Luk1Shot
    @Luk1Shot 2 года назад +431

    What makes castle on the hill so special is that "uneventful life story" is the same as we all had, I can't say my childhood had any crazy adventures but looking back now it's those little moments with my friends doing normal things that make me remember how happy I was and feel nostalgic. This song brings back exactly those memories in a very warm and cute way.

    • @infinityquartz4744
      @infinityquartz4744 2 года назад +21

      Right it wasnt a crazy childhood it was normal, but to us and how Ed explains it, it was special. We didnt actually hang out in a castle, but man it was special like one

    • @pizzzaeater1425
      @pizzzaeater1425 2 года назад +21

      fully agree. it's one of Ed's best songs because it portrays that middle-class childhood most of us had, and Ed seems to either not know how or not care enough to make most of the rest of his songs as genuine and genuinely relatable. i think Castle on the Hill is an above-average song outside the context of Ed's discography, but the song stands out within that context because the context itself is so boring and lifeless.

      @@bruhguy4208 i agree, but i'd like to define the way i interpret it. i think that a random collection of okay songs on the same project makes for a bad album. however, if it were a random collection of really good songs, that can still be a pretty good album. not as good as the ones that have an intended flow or story, but can still be good. i also don't think that just giving an album a theme, story, flow, etc. doesn't automatically make it a better album. the flow has to work in order, the story has to make sense, and most of all, the songs still have to be good on their own. it's not as black and white as just "no story = bad album" or vice versa.

    He gets the rap pass. Before he was even signed to a label, he had music posted on SBTV, and did a collaboration EP with a bunch of UK grime artists. He has a lot of ties to the rap scene (pre-drill) and seems to be treated with a lot respect. I think he has supported them in a number of ways since but I cant remember anything specific. I hate his music, but it's pretty cool. And that EP, while not great, is probably his best release IMO.
