Ed Sheeran makes me angry because it's very clear that he's got some talent in him and he just refuses to use it because the lifeless songs sell more. For every Sing or Castle On The Hill there's three Shape Of Yous or Perfects. But minivan core has a big audience, and he sure knows how to play into it.
Yea he always plays it too safe but I can't blame em cuz that is what makes the most money, It would be interesting if he decided to take a risk and made an album without having sales and numbers in mind
I will stand by the fact that The A Team, Lego House, Photograph, Castle on the Hill and Visiting Hours are stellar songs. It’s a shame that almost everything else he makes is musical NyQuil that does numbers because Karens use it as background noise.
Ed Sheeran is weird, his music is mid as fuck but I was dragged to his concert by my mother and not gonna lie man's is INSANELY talent and can play guitar extremely well like it's nothing. Dude was fully snapping strings he was playing so hard.
Yeah I’ve always wanted to see him live tbh even though I don’t really like the music, I’ve heard nothing but good things about his live shows, especially his skills with a looper
@@Viper-dz2kw I actually did see him live when I was in my fanboy era. Even though I no longer like his music, that performance was really unforgettable.
I see bands I don’t like and live they kill it. It’s just a completely different listening experience that you can’t have listening to music off an album.
Castle on the Hill is legitimately a great song because not only is it very well sung and believable in his performance, it's actually unique to him and feels like it really earns its big, bombastic chorus. I'm not a Sheeran fan, but I'll always give him this track. It's Summer of 69 for a new generation and it works.
@Alejandro if you actually listen to the lyrics, the whole song is about his upbringing as a teen growing up in a somewhat ironically nostalgic tone with personal stories that are still relatable enough to be enjoyed by a wider audience. Despite the negatives he still wants to go back. All put together on a bit of a grandeous instrumental vs what he had normally put out up until that point. I love it, a lot of people love it, I don't think there's much like it. I'm not doing it justice through this comment.
What makes castle on the hill so special is that "uneventful life story" is the same as we all had, I can't say my childhood had any crazy adventures but looking back now it's those little moments with my friends doing normal things that make me remember how happy I was and feel nostalgic. This song brings back exactly those memories in a very warm and cute way.
Right it wasnt a crazy childhood it was normal, but to us and how Ed explains it, it was special. We didnt actually hang out in a castle, but man it was special like one
fully agree. it's one of Ed's best songs because it portrays that middle-class childhood most of us had, and Ed seems to either not know how or not care enough to make most of the rest of his songs as genuine and genuinely relatable. i think Castle on the Hill is an above-average song outside the context of Ed's discography, but the song stands out within that context because the context itself is so boring and lifeless.
I might like it if I found it even slightly relatable, but I have never lived near a friend who I would hang out with all the time, so for me its a melodramatic snoozefest
Just because Ed titled his song "Bad Habits" instead of "Brad Habits" in his next album doesn't mean you gotta bully him in front of your 200k viewers, Brad
Apparently Ed stopped cursing in his songs because a taxi driver told him that they wouldn't let their daughter listen to songs with curse words and said "it was the right thing to do" Also, as an autistic person, I didn't really mind the comments at 16:43. Thought it was kinda funny
Ed peaked with his first album. A Team, Lego House, Sunburn, Autumn Leaves, This, U.N.I, Give Me Love, Drunk, Little Bird, Small Bump > anything he's put out in the last 10 years.
Yeah Ed is so boring but idk something about Castle on the Hill he like woke up. The chorus is soaring, the lyrics are meanimgful and relatable on a way thats actually relatable

Ed Sheeran is music for people that take Coldplay over Radiohead
He makes Coldplay seem like a punk band.
hey coldplay was good up until the 2010s
@@derekrequiem4359 no they weren’t.
Coldplay > radiohead
@@MadJackChurchill1312 Yes they were
To me some of these lyrics make about as much sense as the random English that K-pop bands throw into their songs that I'm not really sure they know the meaning of
i still cant understand why he is the most streamed artist rn
Because he took the wock to Poland.
Ginger supremacy my friend
it's just supermarkets playing his songs all day
Same
Idk maybe because he made a come back with his new single bad habits.
Shape of You is such a weird song to hear coming from a guy who looks like the handsy manager at every GameStop
I think you should unironically listen to the Silent Hill 2 OST. Or the OST for any of the first 4 games. They're all really good.
Nah, resident evil directors edition
@@Qvorum THE FART BASEMENT OST
Well if were reccomending game osts, than id nominate Senran Kagura Estival Versus for that. Nearly no bad songs in the entire thing.
I live in cork. The second biggest city in Ireland. It's by no means a big city, it's mostly towns spread out across the county. But holy Christ does everyone lose their minds when ed comes to cork. The radio stations lose their mind and everyone is at it. The station RedFm rebrand as fuckin EDFm for the period he's there. He's an artist deprived of art
So glad to see someone who agrees with me on how boring his music is. The line "when I was six years old I broke my leg" and the way he sings it is soooo cringe to me
“New Man” triggered tinnitus in my left ear.
There is no greater displeasure I can feel than hearing garbage in one ear and “RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII” in the other
I was here for the live and I literally fell asleep
What interested and surprised me more is that Eraser is the least streamed song from the album
His old albums were actually pretty good for like someone who was a teengager and lyrics can be relatable and nostalgic and I enjoyed listening to those songs and still do not as much cause I’ve outgrown them but if I go back and listen to it it gives me nostalgic and he knows how to produce music and his voice is pretty good but I agree that his new music sucks now cause he’s an old man and peopole can’t relate Lmao cause he just doesn’t know how to express lyrics in a more creative and subtle way
I think an interesting video would be you reacting or revisiting Get To Heaven by Everything Everything as I think while it was not only good for its time, but its held up even better.
Has he already listened to this? I love that album, unless he didn't like it, I don't want to watch that lol.
@@suicidalkangarooz he’s already listened to it i think, but he’s never done a full reaction. He has praised it before but also has some problems with it too from what I’ve heard
I can´t belive that this album has 9 million pure copies and it still being the best streamed album on Spotify. It shows the power od Teddy. I really love him. Hi was so cool at the time. His music is just amazing.
Yo pulling up Jeff Buckley’s Grace out of nowhere had me scared shitless, that album is amazing
my favorite album of all time, gives me chills every time i listen to it
Jeff Buckley released one album and then died but still better than anything Sheeran ever made. lol
"TASTED sweet PERFUME." No Ed, you smelled it.
9:35 how DARE you fast-forward through a LUKAS GRAHAAAAAAM moment, Brad
I was in a restaurant in Spain the other day and they literally played Ed Sheeran for 1hr+ XD Either they had a fan working there or put on a Ed Sheeran compilation for background noise but it was so strange.
Omg tell me he kept the "AJR Spokestep" part

i'd love to see you react to the album treat you better by shawn mendes is in, i used to be a massive fan of his and remembering it right now it's up there with divide as one of the most mid albums ever + there are a ton of questionable lyrics in it
ngl his recent "=" is far worse, this one at least has some fun songs but his newest has the boring ramped up to 11
I didn't mind Equals but it felt way too pop and not enough folk, and it lacked replay value, I can't believe some critics actually think it's better than Plus

Some how Ed sheeran manages to be the most over rated and over hated artist simultaneously
The 1 thing I will say for Sheeran is the mans a genius for single handedly finding a cure for insomnia.
In response to the "zoomers don't have the attention span" comment, I'd just like to add this: I've got an attention span, but I don't bullshit. If something doesn't peak my interest quickly, it's probably not gonna get any attention. I can watch a 3 hour movie easily if it's interesting, but a 3 minute song that's boring is getting skipped.
4:02 as a fellow Brit, I have no answers. The Sausage Roll songs are some of the worst creations of all mankind
I didn't mind the first couple but good god they've milked it to death

i dont want to be that guy but please fucking educate yourself!
how you can call people autistic and then immediately follow that up with "they've never felt emotion in their life" is wrong on many levels. and then to call their comments disrespectful!?
This is the first time ive genuinely gave a fuck about using autistic as an insult. I hope you can treat this the same way you treated the fact you thought the way you talked about k-pop but later did research on its link to korean culture and how that made you think.
i usually love your content, Brad, but this is disrespectful.
Brad sus moment
It’s a joke. Plus these people can stand up for themselves they don’t need you jumping in front of the train for them. I could have easily left this part out but I decided not to, because people know it’s a joke.
Also I’m on the spectrum. So how about you go cry about it to someone who cares.
I guess it works as a complete pisstake of itself and the majority understands that
@@BradTasteInMusicOfficial "go cry about it to someone who cares" wow, real good Brad.
I didn't know you were and In that case I feel like a bit of a tool reading back cause of the 'educate yourself', for that I apologise.
But also I too am on the spectrum and I suppose took it quite differently. Usually these wouldn't bother be but for some reason this did.
And yes I did realise it was a joke but I guess I really, really didn't laugh.
I still stand by a fair bit of what I said but I still do feel like q bit of a tool for the rest, reading back.
@@BradTasteInMusicOfficial I wasn't jumping in front of the train for just them, me being autistic is why it got to me.
I really like the opening 3 here. Eraser, Castle On The Hill, & Dive are all tracks that I find very appealing in their own unique ways.
But after that, it’s almost entirely mid. Closer is nice though.

New Flaming Lips track sounds decent
Granted a lot of these songs are generic and boring, due to multiple reasons, does this guy really think a slow song is automatically bad?
Is there no place for ballads or slow songs in general in this world?
People nowadays only want songs that go on loop like a old nokia or classic gameboy/NES Nintendo ringtone or a Tiktok song!
Very rare take, but you should listen to more of Jack Stauber's albums (HiLo, Finite Form) again. He pretty much stopped his work a year ago but I just found your video about Pop Food and I think his other albums might give you a kick too.
Oh yeah, and his micropop.
And should take a look at jack playing live, very strange experience but hes so bouncy and into his music. Leopard is my favourite song rn!!
@@cuandotumedasunagalleta7169 True, but also you should try listening to his pre-Finite Form songs, before he was popular like Juana Maria and Summer Sickness and Stones. They are great -- also yeah, he's quite the guy in real life.

Brad, I love you, but you can't divide by zero to get infinity. Any number divided by zero is simultaneously trying to be infinity and negative infinity, which is undefined. Continue to grow, Brad. Much love
You should listen to Shape of You with the Stormzy verse, he makes the song a hell of a lot better
I remember I really liked 7 years by Lukas Graham as a kid so when I heard castle on the hill I genuinely thought it was a 7 years ripoff at first from the first verse. I was really dumb.
Ed Sheeran is more talented than he leads on but honestly the world needs artists at every level of approachability and I'd say Ed is one of the more respectable names in the realm of bland music.
At the same time, it is fascinating how a lot of the music with the most listeners nowadays is so mind-numbingly generic.
I remember actually liking +, it was this one where I stopped caring for his music
I wanna see Brad react to Jason Mraz's 2020 album, Look For The Good. He would hate it!

it's all kinda bland, but sometimes he makes really cute music. I hate his love songs(I'm not the target demographic for them lol), but Castle on the Hill and Visiting Hours are just adorable. Ik that Ed probably wasn't smoking at 15 or whatever, but I don't really care. it's cute and inoffensive, and sometimes I'm down
Castle on the hill feels like when youre reading a recipe and the author just puts their entire life story before listing the ingredients
Hey brad just came into say when you said “this chat is filled with autistic people”. It's an interesting concept that people like Ed Sheeran Taylor Swift Etc can literally be some of the biggest artists of all time and to people that listen to music for their job or even as a hobby, there so mediocre. Makes me think are they actually mediocre or is it the style that they created got so big that they're imitators slip through the cracks to the point where we don't even see it, ultimately burning us out even faster
