i have had a rad runner 1 for 2 years 4 months....excellent video which i just watched after doing numerous brake adjustments....you are right, trial and error....with out knowing it i did most of what you showed here correctly....i live in a rural area of east texas....lot of the good old boys laugh at me on my ebike but i am very happy with it....for over 50 years i rode regular bikes a LOT but age related stuff finally caught up with me....almost gave up biking totally but discovered e bikes....i really like that you did not ramble all around the subject....right to the point, stay on the point....well presented

Thank you!! I'm fairly new to biking and I've been going crazy with my Rad brakes, because I obviously didn't understand the mechanics of the caliper and cable system. Your video was the first I found,.after many, that took it off and explained how each part works. I felt.like.an.idio because I used to work on jets and couldn't get me brakes adjusted. Great walk through!

Nice. The closeup views were very clear in spite of nearly everything being black-on-black.
    [edit, 4 days later]
It's a good thing I _did_ watch this, because my Rad Expand 5 arrived today, and I had to remove the front brakes entirely to get the wheel on. Now it'll just take a bit more fine-tuning to get firm braking without the faint scrape.

Nice! Wonder if you could do a video for the front brake? That seems to be where my issue is.

Thanks Maria, I can, but the adjustment is exactly the same. I just wanted to show the rear brake because it is much harder to reach. (And I removed my front brake for the beginning part of the video, the close up is my front brake)

Liked and subscribed -- thanks for your help, Chris! I had to adjust/loosen the inner-side 5mm nut a few twists/clicks (no audible or tactile "clicks" however) because no matter what I did, the disc kept touching the inside pad, even when I loosened the brake cable! Very helpful vid, thanks again, Chris! 👍

Hello Chris I have the rad expand 5 and it's an awesome bike. But can you do a video on the regular maintenace on the rad 5 ? Also on a different ebike the vitilan I7 it has the same taillight which has turn signals. Do you think it would work on the rad 5? Let me know you opinion please and thanks

Maybe you could use a spark plug gapper to get the right distances.

  • @SolarizeYourLife

You have to be careful with the inside pad... The pad can go beyond the housing, or the pad wears to where the housing is, and the disc actually is rubbing on the housing not the pad...
